- seanthebond, on 10/10/2007, -2/+67I wasn't going to Digg it until I saw Chrono Trigger on there.
- Herv3, on 10/10/2007, -1/+59Super Metroid is the greatest game I've ever played. If you haven't gotten a chance to sit down and play it then I highly recommend it.
- Phil13, on 10/10/2007, -0/+43Even though this is pretty much a list of the greatest hits on the SNES, I had to digg it for the Uniracers entry. This was one of the only games I could ever beat my older brother in on the older consoles. He may have been the king of Mario Kart, but I kicked his ass in Uniracers. I'll take what I can get.
- mattfugitive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+37Dugg for Earthbound, Chrono Trigger, Mario RPG and well.. everything else on that list.. but mostly Earthbound!
- YouRookies, on 10/10/2007, -0/+31Killer Instinct and Donkey Kong Country for the SNES had some good graphics for back in the day. Ah....I miss the old Rare.
- steelclash84, on 10/10/2007, -1/+28Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, my all-time favorite Zelda in the series, yes I liked it more then OoT.
- onimusha115, on 10/10/2007, -0/+26For any Wii owners who havent played it, Super Metroid is up on the VC now. Its a bargin at 800 points.
- rune420, on 10/10/2007, -0/+18I think the last two digits in your name might help explain why you fail to appreciate the nostalgic value of this article.
- Comus, on 10/10/2007, -4/+22This brings back so many memories. It's silly to say, but Nintendo was a huge part of my childhood. I have no regrets though. I know a lot of older people like to say that video games ruin young people's imaginations, but many of those old games were so creative that it was hard not to have it rub off on you.
- YuriSakazaki, on 10/10/2007, -0/+15Earthbound?
Dugg x infinity. - loganhid, on 10/10/2007, -0/+15Snes was great - Good times
- Cerialthriller, on 10/10/2007, -0/+15Anyone else hoping for Chrono Trigger on virtual console?
- AndrewJC, on 10/10/2007, -0/+14I miss the days of the SNES. I have all of the games on my computer in ROM format, but come on... it's just not the same. I keep wanting to buy an SNES controller with USB so I can relive that old feeling.
I remember spending 40+ hours on Final Fantasy IV, when these days even the Final Fantasy games have trouble keeping me engaged for very long at all (maybe I'm just getting old, because I simply can't sit in front of the TV and play games for hours on end like I used to, at least not without getting bored). I just get the feeling that the old days are gone. - maou, on 10/10/2007, -0/+14I scrolled quickly through until I found Super Metroid. Any "best of SNES" list is rubbish without it. A solid list overall.
- keithburgun, on 10/10/2007, -1/+14I think it's easy to argue that the SNES is the greatest system of all time (Not counting systems' reverse compatibility etc, which would actually qualify PS3 as a good system because it can play all of PSX and PS2's library)
- vinhcenthao, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12Dugg for greatest racing game ever in Super Mario Kart
- aywwts4, on 10/10/2007, -2/+13Yeah, Sega Does what Nintend-Dont!
Not to mention our mascot is like, 50 times cooler and with spikes, not some fat plumber.
Old Console Flamewars FTW - Bokista, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11Hell yeah, Uniracers.
- Philluminati, on 10/10/2007, -2/+13Street Fighter 2 deserves more than an "honourable mention". It was much more important than ***** Mario All Stars.
However some of the best games which IMO should of been on there included Super Soccer, International Superstar Soccer Deluxe and Fifa '96. They were all simply legendary but unfortunately that was written by an American.
Kudos for Starwing making the cut. Defo deserved it. Oh, and Bomberman should of made it too - Dundasbro, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11I'm glad Shadowrun was at least in the Honourable Mentions section. Twas a good game.
- scabbers, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9"The Genesis achieved solid footing in the market and Sega was prepping their 32-bit successors (yes, both the 32X and the Saturn), so Nintendo had to pull out all the stops"
We all know how that worked out.
Rareware made the game, so how was Nintendo pulling out all the stops? The DKC games caught attention with the graphics, but they also had great music, sound and gameplay! DKC2 is the best one, btw. - racketboy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9hehe -- I think you actually meant this link:
http://www.racketboy.com/retro/2007/02/best-undiscovered-super-nintendo-snes.html - goodbyegalaxy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8Act Raiser is in the honorable mentions list along with Tereanigma.
- joehobbes, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9Don't know if any of you noticed, but there's also a Hidden Gems of the SNES post:
http://www.racketboy.com/retro/2007/03/best-undiscovered-nintendo-nes-games.html
A ton of stuff that I've never even heard of previously. - muya, on 10/10/2007, -2/+10Dugg for Uniracers!
- Philluminati, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8Contra III and Street Fighter II Turbo deserve more than honourable mentions.
- Lasereth, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Dugg for Chrono Trigger
- racketboy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Nintendo hired Rareware to make the games.
Hense the Donkey Kong IP. - kindrobot, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8CLAY FIGHTER!!! ( the clown was my fave). Man I miss that game.
- Aidanjalali, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6I'm going to second Super Metroid. My best game of all time so far, if you've not played it, you should really consider it.
- Tikkimann, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Just wait 'till you go online. Then you'll be facing all manner of children ages 6-12 (and some adults, too). How kids get so good at online games, I may never know, but I do know that the number of squeaky voices on Halo 2 is disturbing...
- Username222, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Uniracers was awesome! That company became Rockstar North? I completely forgot that! I used to be a champ at Mario Kart on the SNES. Now, in the latest Mario Kart releases, I get beat by 12 year olds. It really has come full circle I suppose.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Hah, I was about to come to this discussion and post "No Chrono Trigger, no credibility" thinking it wouldn't be on the list, but there it is. Chrono Trigger is still the best game I have ever played -- not the best RPG, the best *game*, period.
- Gella321, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6No Ken Griffey Jr. Baseball??
- akuzemchak, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5I was happy to see Rock 'n' Roll Racing at least made the honorable mention list. Nothing like hearing those classic rock anthems in all their 16 bit MIDI glory!
- fakeplasticsnow, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5How could you sell Chrono Trigger?
- Edmunds, on 10/10/2007, -4/+9Jesus the US SNES is one ugly bastard of a console.. Check out our sexy european version!:
http://www.chronicgames.net/images/snes_eur.jpg - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5thats ugly
- darkened, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5These thoughts were exactly how i felt, reading through this list caused sparks of 100s of memories of my childhood growing up with the SNES and all the times I've played many of those games myself and together with my friends.
- aps1ngh, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Yes, DKC2 was the best out of the three. Finally someone who agrees. Haha.
- quickslvr1287, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4dugg for Super Mario RPG
- fohf, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Contra III is definitely greater than super punch out
- m00nstone, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Final Fantasy 3. Hearing that music sends nostalgic chills down my spine.
- MrVictor, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Hmmm... Where is Street Fighter II and Secret of Mana?
- Escaloni, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5I couldn't get on the site at work. In case anyone else has this problem:
http://duggmirror.com/gaming_news/Games_That_Defined_The_Super_Nintendo_The_Big_N_s_16_bit_Powerhouse/ - smackafiyah, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4This makes me glad that I still I have my SNES in perfect shape after 15 years.
*goes to play earthbound*
I'm surprised they didn't mention MKII on there BTW - kevisazombie, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4I have, pretty decent. Really hard puzzles
- Bokista, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4ok-desuka?
- onesidedsquare, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5dugg for super metroid and chrono trigger goodness
- Bajeda, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3The maturity level is disturbing as well, even for those ages. I've heard some swears I hadn't heard before...
