- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -9/+127Games for girls:
- Mega dishwashing
- Grand theft vacuum
- Cook simulator XXX - estvir, on 10/12/2007, -2/+57I think this is 'Games 4 Girls (Aged 5 to 12)' and not for the 'older' ones.
Stop trying to make a big deal out of nothing. Young girls will want these games, I know my little sister does. - bontaq, on 10/12/2007, -3/+58omg ponies!!1
- sdrawkcaB, on 10/12/2007, -3/+49At least they didn't spell it with a 'Z'...
Also, Spyro always comes up when I'm talking to girls about games, so it probably belongs there. - Adonai, on 10/12/2007, -5/+48I don't know what's more confusing - the fact that this even exists, or the fact that I can see the latest Spyro game on that shelf (not that women don't play spyro, but since the rest of the games scream "I think women are entirely 1-dimensional gamers!", it's odd to see Spyro up there)
- sampson123, on 10/12/2007, -4/+41Where the hell are Animal Crossing or Nintendogs? If you're going to try and target women in such a forced and obvious matter, you might as well put up the few "girl friendly" games that are actually decent.
- iluvatar, on 10/12/2007, -2/+39Cooking Mama is on the stand...
- Bobski, on 10/12/2007, -11/+47I see a bunch of loser male gamers bashing this story in hopes of scoring with a female gamer.
- elnerdo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+29They DO have a virtual cooking game! It's the one at the top left!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+29No "Gomakemeasammich 2k7"?
- drbroccoli, on 10/12/2007, -1/+27pwnies?
- jaynedoe, on 10/12/2007, -3/+28yes. the good ones.
- xerus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+25What do you expect? My local EB has the DSlites packed away in "KIDZZ CORNER!!!"
- CriX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+23I agree. Why is this insulting to girls? Would you be upset if a Toys for Boys stand had GIJoes and robots and stuff?
- gr8one, on 10/12/2007, -2/+25Emanji.., I hate to be the first to break it to you....but....
- insinuate, on 10/12/2007, -2/+25exactly.
- zziks, on 10/12/2007, -3/+25 World of Warcraft sucks
I'd rather play Hello Kitty Island Adventure. - 0zzy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+23By looking at the display, it says it's for girls. Not women, girls - and girls don't need to be playing Grand Theft Auto. Maybe they are just trying to attract the younger gamers (girls)?
- LordofChaosIori, on 10/12/2007, -7/+28I know something else your little sister wants... she wants to play with a Wii.
Oh man, gotta love the Wii. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+24I'll show the boys what the girls can do!
- xerus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+21Thats what I said.
- lukas88, on 10/12/2007, -3/+20Women? Look at the age of the girl in the ad. This is for like 6-10 year old girls. Why is it such a surprise that they would use dolls, disney movies, and cartoons to market to that demographic? Why is it insulting?
An advertiser isn't suppose to appeal to EVERY person in their target demographic, just most of them. Leaving out the minority (for example, "tom boys") is common because it is hard to appeal to both. I think you all are way too sensitive. - weedian, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17They are focused at young girls.
Nerd Girls need to stop whining and go pretend to be a level 14 Sorceress. - falstaff, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18I saw two packages today at Costco, "Games for Girls" with Barbie, Bratz and Dora and something else, and "Games for Boys" with Bob the Builder and some other stuff. The packaging looked basically like the display in this link. This isn't about "female gamers" in general, it's about kids. Little girls.
There's a difference between marketing to a target audience of 5-8 year-old girls and teenage-and-older female gamers. - hasbeen, on 10/12/2007, -7/+22Girls play video games?
- mancat, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17Lord, there is a certain perverted tone to your comment. I don't know why, but it's there.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15the target audience is "girls", not "women". Women can play anything they want, no need to advertise specifically to them. On the other side of the coin, if a display said "Games for Boys" and had GI Joe, Sonic, and K'Nex games on it, nobody would have said anything because it is understood that they men _young_ boys, not men.
- ToastPop, on 04/17/2009, -2/+14These are video games for girls that aren't nerds. Only nerdy girl gamers play the other ones.
- jcapogna, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11People don't digg a story because they agree with the viewpoint of it, they digg it because they find the story interesting.
For example, I would digg a story about genocide because it is good news, not because I like genocide. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13You think you're a real man?
aww. so cute! - miken32, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12I think they were targeting girls, not women. You use the two interchangeably in your post, which might be considered as unreasonable by some. I know I wouldn't see a display in a store labeled as being for boys and think it was for me.
Edit: okay, i'm clearly late to the posting party. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+14...my fiance thought that said "***** Simulator XXX". Makes more sense, plus i'm insulted!
- aybdude42, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12wtf?
- jaynedoe, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12seriously. I'm not really good at video games though but I'll still play.
- Urusai, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I think my 6 year old daughter might get a kick out of a couple of those games.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7If you consider that this is aimed at _young_ girls and not at _female_ gamers, it's not offensive - and yes, I consider there to be a difference between the two.
To me, I would assume a game advertised as being "for boys" to be designed for young boys, not male gamers. It's assumed, at least in my mind, that older male and female gamers are secure in their likes and dislikes and do not need to subscribe to stereotypical expectations of what they should and should not play. Therefore, your average game is for anyone (male or female), whereas the games in this article are certainly aimed at "girls" and should be marketed as such. I believe EB understands this - the image on the display is of a young girl, not a 25 year old woman. - yuriko, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7these comments are full of misogynists... why do boys (men / males) constantly feel the need to compare / compete/ judge? male or female -- is it really essential to establish that MEN are better at gaming?/ running the world/ being leaders/ etc etc...?
what's up with the 21st century when all these posts are so sexist? surely a female can enjoy and play -- ooops maybe even beat a guy once in a while at a "REAL" game? who cares what sex you happen to be born?
isn't gaming suppose to be a fun thing to enjoy with friends? why oh why do you all have to degrade, judge and be so degrading and competitive? who cares man, games = fun... - aschocobo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7these games are good for girls who are about 10 and under...well, maybe 11 and under.
obviously, with the princesses and ponies on the top header board, it's pretty clear that these games are aimed at younger girls. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8I agree with your statement, but not your wording. This could have been said just as effectively without profanity.
- ElectricGrandpa, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Think about this for a second people. These games ARE games that have been targeted at girls. Why not have a seperate stand for them? It's foolish for you to say that Gamestop doesn't get it... They are the ones actually SELLING the stuff, so why would they set up the display in a way that hurts sales? This IS a good idea, and I'm sure they DO know what they're doing.
- drbroccoli, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8"They can make my "magic-stick" go up, up, up..."
Very cute, you sick f***. - spartan777, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I think people are going to read into this too much, but yeah, bad idea advertising department. They are clearly targeting younger girls, in which case they aren't too off the target. I have two sisters who really only did play barbie games and final fantasy, and that was pretty much the extent of the different games they played.
- Dafreakzo, on 10/12/2007, -8/+14Who gives a damn? You bitches find anything to complain about dont you? It clearly says GIRLS...OBVIOUSLY by the type of games featured there they mean adolecent females.
You guys really need to get your heads out of your ass's and stop finding every little thing to complain about....note, I am speaking in regards to the person who originally posted this on the other site.... - jamiejamez, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Your pony died because it wasn't pretty enough.
- whiskerlickins, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5As a female gamer, I'm not the least bit insulted. But my 10 year-old niece would love those games.
- dilchill, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I think Anastasia would be angered by this article
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I foresee many negative diggs in your future.
- succubuskiller, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Seriously. Why are people preaching that is demeaning towards women.
STFU. It is targeted towards younger girls not "gamers."
Should they hide the display all the way in the back because maybe the girls and their parents would see it while walking through the mall.....? That is an excellent business strategy right? Are the games themselves something a girl would play, that is another topic but to whine about a display is ridiculous. High five. - tuxidomasx, on 10/12/2007, -7/+12.. they need a game called
"Cooking and Cleaning II: Return of the Dustpan" -
