- AmnesiacJack, on 09/29/2009, -1/+59Great now I can teabag you and show you my o-face.
- VsAcesoVer, on 09/29/2009, -0/+34So..we're going from preset expressionless faces to actual expressionless faces?
- forcedfx, on 09/29/2009, -0/+30Yea no thanks. I make the worst facial expressions when I play COD WaW. Something between constipation and mild amusement.
- LordKorax, on 09/29/2009, -0/+29"You will be able to spend several hundred dollars to give your avatar facial expressions that nobody will be paying attention to because they're busy playing a video game!"
- Gndoab, on 09/29/2009, -1/+19which is exactly what this technology will be used for in reality
- SuicideMouse, on 09/29/2009, -0/+13The best thing I see about this is actually that it could get good enough that while you talk into your mic, your character would actually be mouthing the words.
- SJZero, on 09/29/2009, -0/+11This isn't going to be the future.
Video phones have existed for at least 20 years, but nobody uses them, because people don't want to have to be self-conscious about how they look.
Video games would double this. Why exactly would I want to have people from around the world looking at my expression? I barely want the people I know and like to see that. - MotoFly, on 09/29/2009, -0/+10Already did it in CS 1.6. Given, all your Terrorist or CT did was move its lower jaw up and down.
- GameOnDigger, on 10/10/2009, -3/+12this might be the next thing in gaming, we will wait and watch.
- BigLou, on 09/29/2009, -0/+9Uh... I'm rather expressionless while playing... even IF something "exciting" happens.
- axb156, on 09/29/2009, -4/+12Amazingly useless.
- FearlessFreep, on 09/29/2009, -0/+7Perfect Space Marine
- cquilliam, on 09/29/2009, -0/+7Pffft, I love the facial expressions in TF2, even almost 2 years later, I still crack up watching them.
- OLTP, on 09/29/2009, -0/+7Great, now I get to look at a bunch of slack-jawed daffodils.
- m0og0o, on 09/29/2009, -0/+6I don't think they could've found uglier 3d models
- Jektal, on 09/29/2009, -2/+8Porn.
- Gareth321, on 09/29/2009, -0/+5I once had a guy knife me three times in a row in the back in a CS map by hiding around corners waiting for me. I told the guy, "next round, I'm going to knife you and teabag you for the entire round". So I ran around the map, avoiding anyone from the terrorists, only to find the *****, knife him in the back, and teabag him for a full 4.5 minutes. One of the greatest moments of my gaming life. I actually had cheering and applause from my team mates. The prick stopped camping after that.
- Shreder1, on 09/29/2009, -1/+6This technology would have more use in a virtual reality rather than sit down and play games. It would allow game designers to have the avatar's lip movements correlate with players talking over an internal VoIP.
Is it necessary? No. Is it kinda cool? Yes, very. One step closer to a holo-deck. - SJZero, on 09/29/2009, -0/+5Great! Now your hunched over, anorexic (or conversely, pear-shaped) frame can hop around in-game, and people can laugh at the ridiculousness of someone like you acting like a commando for real, rather than just implying it in the in-game chat!
- falser, on 09/29/2009, -0/+5I would rather have a giant concave 180° panoramic monitor.
- marshdabeachy, on 09/29/2009, -0/+5Nobody is going to buy 2 cameras to stick to the sides of their monitor. This is not the next big thing in gaming.
- yayster, on 09/29/2009, -0/+4could use the emotive device as a input device
- choopie911, on 09/29/2009, -0/+4I did this in Tony Hawk on N64
- swagv, on 09/29/2009, -0/+4Who doesn't love technology that will enable people with little social life to share their facial expressions from when they pinch a loaf in a coffee can?
- tourettes1992, on 09/29/2009, -2/+5Imagine it being like in Doom...
- JoeHague, on 09/29/2009, -0/+3I can imagine, a not to distant future, where you'll be able to scan your entire body, including clothing, to be rendered in game.
- johnwayne1, on 09/29/2009, -0/+3Let's see the O face.
- kornwin, on 09/29/2009, -0/+3TIME TO GET OFF, GO TO BED, TURN IT DOWN.
- FearlessFreep, on 09/29/2009, -1/+4So much for escapism. what's the point of a video game alter-ego if it looks just like you?
- doctordbx, on 09/29/2009, -0/+3Tiger Woods 2008 did it.
- trdrstv, on 09/29/2009, -0/+3have you seen Project Natal ?
- SeraphX, on 09/29/2009, -0/+3I don't want my games populated by vapid mouth-breathers, thank you.
- Wypie, on 09/29/2009, -0/+3Chocolate Milk anyone?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=haSGAf7lvR0#t=01m18 ... - EmperorAwesome, on 09/29/2009, -0/+3Y'know I was just playing batman the other day thinking "this game's pretty good, but batman could stand to look exceedingly drunk."
- MxM111, on 09/29/2009, -0/+2I think for the gaming it is much more important to have speech-to-speech, text-to-speech and speech to text translators, so that your avatars would speak in appropriate voices.
- TranquilNight, on 09/29/2009, -0/+2The younger generation dun know what you talkin about.
- tullonsk, on 09/29/2009, -1/+3What you will get to see will be endless potato chip munching and soda guzzling faces.
- nodream, on 09/29/2009, -0/+2Where is the obligatory Snowcrash reference? Oh, I think I just made it...
- FearlessFreep, on 09/29/2009, -0/+2"nobody will be paying attention to because they're busy shooting you while you make faces" -- edited for you
- cquilliam, on 09/30/2009, -0/+2When you play medic as much as me, you spend a lot of time hiding behind a wall while staring at a heavy laughing and screaming maniacally.
- iDiggYa, on 09/30/2009, -0/+2You respawn at the end of the round.
- MonkeyNews, on 09/30/2009, -0/+2I don't play CS - but why didn't the guy respawn?
- VectorJ, on 09/29/2009, -2/+4just like your comment.
- the8thbit, on 09/29/2009, -0/+2Ray Kuirzweil has been doing stuff like this forever.
- styromaniac, on 09/30/2009, -0/+1Sniper face
- fanfablebig, on 09/30/2009, -0/+1I play happy so i don't think anyone would be able to see my eyeballs.
- omaroa, on 09/29/2009, -1/+2Full article: http://www.hindawi.com/journals/ijcgt/aip.726496.p ...
- pustulio, on 10/03/2009, -0/+1Son, I am dissapoint.
- JoeWag, on 09/30/2009, -0/+1I think the important thing is to get games with realistic looking faces as opposed to what is currently available. Being able to mimic real facial expression will be a great way to implement this, and quite possibly the only way to get more realism into gaming.
- JinxCrow, on 09/30/2009, -0/+1So many people misread them on a daily basis anyway....
