Gamefly Needs To Stop Acting Like A Psycho Ex-Girlfriend
the-minusworld.com — Gamefly, a seemingly innocuous snail mail service that lets you rent video games without having to wait behind a 46 year old man at Blockbuster holding Wild Things 3. I received 56 emails from them in just under 2 months. It just got to be too much, but even worse, it reminded me of the way a psycho ex-girlfriend acts.

"You think I'm qualified?" - scooterbaga, on 08/07/2008, -0/+5@apothekari... Thanks... just thought of another comeday movie to add to my ipod.
- Detritus, on 08/07/2008, -9/+3***** you, my brother died that way!
- absurdist, on 08/07/2008, -2/+9Please. Just. Stop.
- MagikOvenMit, on 08/07/2008, -0/+2Usually, I have to think about why I blocked someone. Not with you, though.

- decepticrat, on 08/07/2008, -2/+10I've never used Gamefly before, and now I kinda don't want or need to. I've had my share of psycho ex's and I definitely don't need another one that knows my home address and has my email.
- jmeeter, on 08/07/2008, -0/+5Netflix is kind of similar, they are always sending emails telling me they've received my movie, that they shipped a movie, asking me to rate a movie, or that I should upgrade, and occasionally they ask what date I shipped a particular movie back. That all adds up!
- soot, on 08/07/2008, -0/+5Well, can't you unsubscribe from those emails on their website?
- scooterbaga, on 08/07/2008, -0/+4Yes, you can unsubscribe from those emails.
- et3rnalnigh7, on 08/07/2008, -1/+5I don't get it, 56 emails in 2 months is nothing.
- TheTaoOfBill, on 08/07/2008, -1/+6Gamefly banned me because someone at my local post office or mail sorter kept stealing my games. Maybe if they didn't send them to me in bright orange envelopes labeled gamefly they wouldn't get stolen.
- scooterbaga, on 08/07/2008, -0/+10I recently got a notice from the justice department (or a court or something idk) about some guy who'd been convicted of stealing netflix, gamefly or both. And I was one of the numerous 'victims'.
Just a friendly FYI from local law enforcement. ...Freaked me the ***** out when I saw the envelope. My first thought was, "They finally caught up to me." Boy was I relieved.
...excuse me while I lower this basket with lotion into the pit... - SSUK, on 08/08/2008, -0/+2Don't worry, that triple homicide will come back to you one day.
- scooterbaga, on 08/07/2008, -0/+10I recently got a notice from the justice department (or a court or something idk) about some guy who'd been convicted of stealing netflix, gamefly or both. And I was one of the numerous 'victims'.
- Clockw0rk, on 08/08/2008, -0/+1I've had Gamefly for years, and this "article" is as overblown as the Janet Jackson nipple incident.
Seriously, there are things called 'email preferences' attached to pretty much every service online. I only get shipped-received notices, nothing else. Depending how long I keep my games, it's anywhere from fifteen to three emails a month.
- Floppay, on 08/07/2008, -3/+55"We've shipped: A lock of hair sprayed with perfume
We've recieved: A restraining order"
LMAO
Also I just checked and 34% of my total archive of email is from gamefly.- mypetridish, on 08/07/2008, -2/+4Just so you know Blockbuster and Netflix send confirmation emails as well, just as much if not more.
- MikeonTV, on 08/07/2008, -1/+68First I need to know what a girlfriend acts like
- silverzone, on 08/07/2008, -0/+8***** dude. You don't want a girlfriend that acts like this. That's a ***** nightmare.
- FlyingSpaghetti, on 08/07/2008, -0/+15It's just like Gamefly, but with blowjobs.
- TheTaoOfBill, on 08/07/2008, -0/+15You get blowjobs?!
- Azuroth, on 08/08/2008, -0/+6Only until you get married.
- Jasper710, on 08/07/2008, -1/+6Gamefly might give me a paper cut but my girlfriend owns knives man. Lots of them.
- barcelona10, on 08/07/2008, -2/+2you have to have a girlfriend first to then have an ex-girlfriend, neither of which are helped by Gamefly... but that isn't a bad thing.
- scooterbaga, on 08/07/2008, -3/+62What a dumbass. Apparently going into his profile and flipping a switch is too much hassle for an AWESOME service. No unsubscribe emails necessary. I ONLY get the sent/received emails, oh, and the ones telling me I have free credit to spend towards a purchase.
Best way to rent games. Best way to buy used games. Best way to play games before you buy. Best way to replace old games that you scratched...
um... just kidding, I never do that last one.- buba1243, on 08/07/2008, -2/+13Wow that last one gave me a good idea. I hope gamefly doesn't read digg.
- BestJaxx, on 08/07/2008, -1/+8The only problem I have with them is that when I did use Gamefly, it took around two weeks to send one game back, and then receive another. Have they fixed that problem?
- scooterbaga, on 08/07/2008, -0/+5Ya, it seemed like a REALLY long time back in the day. Now the turnaround is like 3-4 days, at least from where I'm at. The 'fast return' thing is pretty sweeet. The post office scans them, and notifies gf of the return, then they send out the next game.
- metalhead87, on 08/09/2008, -0/+1Well....that "problem" would just be how far you are from their shipping centers. I don't know how long ago you used them, but they have 3 shipping centers now. If they ship a game on Monday, I receive it on Wednesday.
And the fast return thing is nice, but it doesn't work for everyone.....my post office apparently never scans them in, because I never get a "fast return."
- MagikOvenMit, on 08/07/2008, -1/+1I don't like Gamefly for two reasons. The first is that two shipping centers are closer to me than the one I recieve from, which gives me a week-long turnaround time (or more if the fast return doesn't work), and the other is that if you don't get a game shipped to you the day it is released, you aren't getting it for a good month or two. I still use it, though, because it's the best service of its kind out there.
- lyrica42, on 08/08/2008, -0/+2Getting New Releases basically depends on how early you put it into your Q. I've received at least 4 brand new games the around the day it is released or only up to 1 week later.
Gamefly is an excellent service. I'd never be able to play as many games that I do with out it. - mike17032, on 08/08/2008, -0/+2Gotta agree, Netflix and Gamefly are two of the best ***** services around.
Gamefly isnt perfect, they seem to have supply problems on 360 games and it sometimes takes a little longer than I think it should to ship me games, but for the money it ***** rocks.
Netflix is just about god damn perfect. If I send a movie out Monday, I have my next one Wensday. And their suggestions are almost always dead on for me.
- built2spill, on 08/07/2008, -2/+28Dugg for "...don’t ***** with Gamefly. That bitch is crazy."
- Detritus, on 08/07/2008, -5/+4Honestly, I know it isn't cool and it is all "Brick and Mortar", but I prefer Blockbuster. Partially because I'm a penny-pincher and like the $2 savings over Gamefly, but mostly because I want instant gratification and waiting for games in the mail seems archaic.
- BoonTobias, on 08/07/2008, -0/+5***** blockbuster, i rented office season 1 (two discs) and forgot to return it, i apparently own them now for $108.
then i realized i could've watched them online for free%@#$- ericrous, on 08/08/2008, -0/+2That's what you get for renting the substandard American version, you damn dirty bastard!
- BoonTobias, on 08/07/2008, -0/+5***** blockbuster, i rented office season 1 (two discs) and forgot to return it, i apparently own them now for $108.
- jockser, on 08/07/2008, -1/+3Sir, I dugg you for the title only.
- Jakkers, on 08/07/2008, -0/+9Gmail filter that crap straight past your inbox, to its own tag if you may want to read it. Problem solved.
- modix, on 08/08/2008, -0/+0That's exactly my setup. It works perfectly. If you need to check on it, it's there, but you don't ever have to read it if you don't want to.
- Joe857, on 08/07/2008, -0/+3I'm sure they're just attempting to improve their service. Kinda funny though...
- adml_shake, on 08/07/2008, -0/+6You think it's bad now, just wait and see what happens if you ever cancel. I did after a few months and they flooded my account with "we'll give you a good deal if you come back now!!" and "Did you know that 90% of people who stop using gamefly come back in a few months because they can't find a better deal anywhere else? Come back now!!". Ex-GF is a great way to describe this.
- merreborn, on 08/07/2008, -0/+3I signed up for their free trial a couple of years ago, and canceled without issue. (I can't say the same for stamps.com...)
So, yeah, they may be a bit spammy, but as far as I know, that's all they're guilty of. - SaladCactusKing, on 08/07/2008, -1/+6They don't send me that many e-mails
- S2N336, on 08/07/2008, -2/+3Because your ugly.
- microdude431, on 08/07/2008, -1/+2Anyone have a mirror? The website went down. :S
- duffman03, on 08/07/2008, -1/+2The system is down. The system is down.

- MudMan69, on 08/07/2008, -1/+1It's really not worth reading.
- PimpSetBitch, on 08/07/2008, -0/+0Maybe he wanted to look at the pictures
- duffman03, on 08/07/2008, -1/+2The system is down. The system is down.
- modal, on 08/07/2008, -1/+3Thankfully, I haven't had a crazy girlfriend in the way described. I've had girls who I found I just couldn't have a normal relationship with, but I didn't get hordes of text messages or emails from them when I chopped it off ( :-) the relationship that is ). These relationships were all ended amicably for the most part.
- billbugger, on 08/07/2008, -1/+15"You better not be ***** NetFlix, i swear"
and the first comment "What’s Gamefly’s #? I’m so cold and alone…"
hahaha - modal, on 08/07/2008, -1/+4What kind of condition are Gamefly games when you get them?? I'm thinking they get pretty scratched up.
- modix, on 08/08/2008, -0/+3Mine have been flawless so far. One required cleaning, but no scratches.
- calibration, on 08/08/2008, -0/+3They have a few scratches, but they work fine. I've only had 1 unreadable disc and they sent a replacement really quick.
- OasisR123, on 08/07/2008, -0/+7Dugg for Selena reference
- beyondu, on 08/07/2008, -0/+4Go on the gamefly website and try to find a number to call. I went on there after ordering a preowned PS3 game, couldn't find a number, found an online chat (which wasn't there next time I visited the site), so I had to google for the gamefly number so I could tell them my game hadn't come. I called them on a Tuesday (during there business hours) and got a recording saying that there operators would be back on Wednesday and sorry for my inconvenience. They refunded my money, and literally 2 weeks later my game finally came in the mail, so it was free, but still there customer support sucks.
- scooterbaga, on 08/07/2008, -0/+3Should've used the email support. Works great. It's better to rent the game you'd like to buy. If it's too messed up, use email support to get replacements until it's in good shape. Then buy it.
- NCg8r, on 08/08/2008, -0/+0You can also write them to complain that your rental game never arrived and they'll send you another one. The day after I did this (2 years ago), Moto GP 2006 arrived. Then the 2nd copy arrived. When I sent the 2nd one back, they mailed me the next game in the queue! *BLING*
- whoamarcos, on 08/07/2008, -1/+7My problem with Gamefly is the 2 week turn around I get when I return a game. They are shipping from Pennsylvania to New York....
wtf is taking 2 weeks?!- JesusHimself, on 08/07/2008, -0/+3I use to have the same issue, but with the City of industry location. i got around it by saying that it got lost in the mail, when the game you want arrives u just put in the previous game into the mail and it is erased off of your account as missing
- BooneFaustus, on 08/08/2008, -0/+3I never had that problem when I tried the free trial. It took about 3-4 days between games (Shipping from Pennsylvania to New York).
- NCg8r, on 08/08/2008, -1/+1I was in Charlotte and it took almost 2 weeks for any game to arrive AFTER they received my previous game. Part of it was my mail service (they came twice a week and left bundles... This was in a normal house in a suburb... WTF?!?), but it was bad even when I mailed stuff out from work (RIGHT NEXT to the main post office at the airport). Then every other game was so scratched that it wouldn't play. If you got 2 of those, your whole month is gone and you haven't played a game for the money you spent.
- D3koy, on 08/07/2008, -0/+7Maybe if Netflix bought them, they could change their ways...That would be pretty cool
- modix, on 08/08/2008, -0/+4Especially if they had a movie/game combo deal
- JesusHimself, on 08/07/2008, -3/+12This guy is a dumbass, he could have just unsubscribed to the newsletter at the site in his account prefs, he's basically complaining because he didn't want to take 3 minutes of his life and go to the site and figure it out.
- migatikon, on 08/08/2008, -0/+5I think it's supposed to be funny, my man. It's all in fun. You did read the article, right? Right?
- speedk0re, on 08/07/2008, -2/+3alright that seriously cracked me the hell up!
- ileftfark, on 08/07/2008, -0/+7armcuts.jpg
***** awesome. - FishHammer, on 08/07/2008, -0/+3I thought it was real for about 30 seconds.
- Walgreenz, on 08/07/2008, -4/+5Awful, stupid article... How did this get dugg so much?
- ltethe, on 08/07/2008, -0/+5Some of us, had crazy pscho girlfriends at one point. Now that the pain is over, we can laugh at it.
- dood, on 08/08/2008, -0/+2It's funny.
- phalanxcronos, on 08/07/2008, -0/+4you want spam? 2 words: VISTA PRINT
- YME1280, on 08/08/2008, -0/+1Spreadshirt & ticketmaster
- Fleagleman, on 08/07/2008, -0/+3I honestly never get that many emails from them. Oh well, some people just like to bitch.
- sisko2k5, on 08/07/2008, -1/+3Look what you made me do...armcuts. Thats just briliant
- McDeath, on 08/07/2008, -0/+5Yes, they do send a lot of junk mail, but they sell used games at great prices... I bought Mass Effect for $20 four months after the game came out. Therefore I cannot say anything bad about them.
- sachinag, on 08/07/2008, -3/+3You'd save a load of money if you just bought and sold games as you played them. Amazon, Craigslist, Dawdle, eBay (sorry, can't think of a B one)...
- mrzack, on 08/08/2008, -1/+4I remember a video posted on the internet 4 years ago titled "psycho girlfriend". it was interesting....
- bloodr, on 08/08/2008, -2/+5Dugg down as inaccurate.
- dcdevelop, on 08/08/2008, -0/+3Its sometimes true. I canceled my service for 2 months because I was going to be in Europe and every other day I would get stuff about how my coupons were about to expire or how I could come back for a low price of 14.95!. Ironically when I wanted to use the service again they had (and may still have) a promotion where new members get a month free so I just simply signed up for another account with the same address.
- davewelsh79, on 08/08/2008, -2/+1I don't believe you have a girlfriend. Enjoy your hand.
- gaoshan, on 08/08/2008, -1/+2I'm NOT 46!!! I'm only 45 (and a half) and I was renting Wild Things 3 for my... erm, for my brother. So there!
- parkersroc, on 08/08/2008, -0/+2Got to say i like Gamefly you get your moneys worth renting as apposed to buying.Best way to rent games. Best way to buy used games. Best way to play games before you buy them well if you like saving 50% that is.I don't get many emails from them either great service.
- Xanax457, on 08/08/2008, -1/+0Definitely. I've been using them for about a year now. No issues with the service or email from them. Games return/ship out faster than blockbuster/netflix too. I've got the one-out plan, but on average get two games a month. Plus, if it's a game I like, I just keep it and they bill me at a used game price.
If you like plunking down 50 or 60 bucks on a new games, tearing through it as fast as possible, then letting it collect dust, then this isn't for you....

- Firespray1138, on 08/08/2008, -0/+5"Baby I really want to be inside your mail slot again."
LOL - PhantomPhoenix, on 08/09/2008, -0/+4When I was younger I remember my older brother had a psycho ex-girlfriend...
We woke up one Saturday morning and she was sleeping in our backyard clutching some mangled flowers and an old school picture of him. - chick4869, on 08/09/2008, -1/+1OH my god this is the funniest article ever hahahaahha. "you better not be ***** netflix" AHHAHAHAHAA im not on gamefly but i can imagine what its like haha. they probably have a giant team of people just sending out emails and thinking of things to email you. they probably spend a big part of their budget getting people to say on their service. cause if you think about it its a subscription you have to pay monthly. most people probably just realize that they dont need the service anymore after they tried it and realize its probably not worth the price that i pay every mon th so they end up canceling and gamefly becomes a phsyco ex girlfriend :D ahah but the article is funny as hell.
- heretrix, on 08/17/2008, -0/+0This article is full of it. I don't get that many emails from them and it's an excellent service.
