- DanteDefiance, on 05/13/2008, -11/+129"I'm also disappointed that so many publications ran their stories without contacting us for the real story and instead took the word of random Internet folks who were totally manipulating the situation."
Exactly! This happens way too often. Kotaku will post a story without even checking the sources and everyone just eats it up.
Mob mentality I guess... - Osmose1000, on 05/13/2008, -4/+97Am I the only one who has never heard of Race Driver: GRID until reading this?
- Skitals, on 05/13/2008, -19/+92My comment from the original story, which got -5 diggs:
"Obviously the editor effed up. Was probably given mislabeled footage. Conspiracy theorize much?"
SUCK IT! - Atomic05, on 05/13/2008, -4/+50On an entirely related note, I played that GRID demo. I thought it sucked. How's that for gaming journalism?
- dig1x, on 05/13/2008, -8/+51"So how did they get GTA4 ads with only Xbox360 on them all over their page?"
Perhaps Rockstar or T2? They just *told* you MS hasnt paid or ads in two years. They're a publicy traded company -- do you think they just lie for no reason? So, it must be R*, T2 or some other mysterious 3rd party.
Jesus, take off the conspiracy hats. They made a mistake. Its not some kind of plot. - seldon452, on 05/13/2008, -2/+29There is a lot of competition between Joystiq and Kotaku and Gizmodo and Engadget. They all rush to be the first ones with the scoop on a particular story. If that means sacrificing a little journalistic integrity so they can get a few more hits on their site they really don't care. I wonder when they will figure out most people just read both. Or neither.
- TidusX, on 05/13/2008, -19/+48While this was overblown way bigger than it should have been I still believe that they need to act more neutral and less fanboi, and this is coming from some one that owns both systems. I just want to have a professional site to go to.
My only concern from the interview is:
"We haven't had any advertising from Microsoft on GameTrailers.com for over two years."
So how did they get GTA4 ads with only Xbox360 on them all over their page? - MisterMajusty, on 05/13/2008, -2/+28"Wouldn't it be nice if we lived in a world where people just enjoyed video games regardless of what platform they're released for?"
I wish. Real gamers shouldn't even have console favoritism and just enjoy whatever games they can play. Seriously, why can't we all enjoy a game of Halo or Resistance? Why can't we play both Smash Bros. Brawl and GTAIV? People should be loyal to their family and friends, not plastic boxes of circuitry and hardware. - andyduncan, on 05/13/2008, -2/+25A comment lamenting the powers of mob mentality on Digg? My irony detector just asploded.
- SEGA4life, on 05/13/2008, -17/+40They came out with an apology, they explained the "only problem" the site has had with a video..
But yet people will still complain, and still yell foul.
I think allot has to do with people expecting to much from their PS3, they want the games to all look better on PS3 then the 360, but in the end they will always look almost identical, if not totally identical. Remember back in the day, Xbox had better graphics then the PS2, but it didn't matter, PS2 was out first and had more games, same will apply here. - Jadler88, on 05/13/2008, -2/+26Digging you down for being a ***** :D
- TotalHalibut, on 05/13/2008, -0/+20You've discovered the plan, it was viral marketing all along!
- DonSlice, on 05/13/2008, -7/+28An honest mistake. Nothing more.
- terminalpariah, on 05/13/2008, -15/+30Maybe they should just stop making these idiotic comparison videos.
- Intangible360, on 05/13/2008, -17/+32People, should be more levelheaded about this stuff, too many are too ready to jump all over stories like this because of their own confirmation bias. The Playstation owners are just a little too anxious to cry foul if anyone dare says the 360 could be displaying CERTAIN games better than their PS3.
- jasmus, on 05/13/2008, -0/+12Couldn't agree more. When I dugg you up, you were at 0 diggs. It hurts my brain to think someone dugg you down.
- Coy0te, on 05/13/2008, -2/+13 I think you got mixed up there. The 360 looks sharper up close but looses it's detail at a distance due to the post processing filter and the small amounts of pop-in. You're right though, they both have their strengths and weaknesses.
- evil-doer, on 05/13/2008, -3/+16im surprised no one has mentioned that the fixed version of the comparison is there now
http://www.gametrailers.com/player/33799.html - ryanmm, on 05/13/2008, -3/+14relax guy, its mislabeled footage, nothing to get worked up about
- slimthps, on 05/13/2008, -11/+24The 360 has pop-in problems, not PS3.
- inactive, on 05/13/2008, -3/+12The wisdom of crowds is useless when your crowd is retarded. Ie digg.
- inactive, on 05/13/2008, -2/+11That 40% bluray drop, was dedicated bluray players. Everyone knows to get a PS3
- Zamfir, on 05/13/2008, -8/+17Both of those sites suck, and suck bad.
- dig1x, on 05/13/2008, -6/+16It was clear to anyone (with half an ounce of brain) that the problem certainly arose from some simple error.
Paranoid delusions of conspiracy is really, just the refuge of a lazy thinking. Its clearly arisen from the unrealistic expectations some people expect from Their Chosen Console Brand.
Its called cognative dissonance, and the lengths that people will go to preserve their false worldview is astounding ("gametrailers is involved in a conspiracy to make the Playstation look bad!1! we caught them this time!1!" and other such rambling is just ridiculous. - Intangible360, on 05/13/2008, -11/+19I think this comment sums up the source of the problem quite nicely, "It's surprising how paranoid people are and how desperate they can be to try and manipulate the masses into believing that there's some kind of malicious activity going on that will slight their favorite console."
- inactive, on 05/13/2008, -3/+12Actually according to reviews, 360 has the pop in problems, PS3 less-so
- theaceoffire, on 05/13/2008, -3/+12Where you here when the PS3 launched, and the non-ending bashing was occurring?
Now that its finally slowing down, people are claiming PS3 fanboys own digg. Go figgure. - se1zure, on 05/13/2008, -1/+10people arguing which is better shoudl definately watch this. The ps3 looks better on some and the 360 on others. I guess it is more of a preference of color tones and saturation (ps3 seems more saturated). Both look great, and deciding one looks better than the other is something that is nearly impossible to do.
- KloroFormd, on 05/13/2008, -1/+9Agreed with slimthps. I've beat the PS3 version and played the 360 version for several hours, and noticed more pop-in on the 360.
Both versions were damn fun and looked great, so who really gives a *****? - InfinitySnatch, on 05/13/2008, -1/+9No you didn't.
- se1zure, on 05/13/2008, -2/+11ps360 all the way. I have a wii and 360 now. I play my 360 all the time but i really don't even have my wii hooked up anymore. It was a waste of money. I ps3 for mgs and grand turismo since neither has a realistic equivilant for 360. (PGR is no GT)
- nobody98, on 05/13/2008, -1/+8If you watch GTs own shows comparison videos etc they clearly are biased against the PS3
- logicalnoise, on 05/13/2008, -2/+8I go to gam trailers.com for you know...game trailers not editorial content(that's what I watch yahtzee for).
- jasmus, on 05/13/2008, -0/+6I just watched the new video, and honestly, if the difference between the two systems as displayed by this video makes you think one is far superior to the other, then get your eyes checked, one of them is faulty.
- se1zure, on 05/13/2008, -9/+15regardless of the mistake, it still is a little peculiar that the better and more exciting footage from the ps3 was used in the 360 version.
- inactive, on 05/13/2008, -4/+10It was clear to anyone, GT did it on purpose. This isn't the first or second time they've done this. And they admitted to filming ALL PS3 videos under less than ideal settings.
- blackgt93, on 05/13/2008, -0/+5Congratulations, you win at Internet!!!!
- hinchb, on 05/13/2008, -4/+10No, because sometimes people actually make mistakes and it's not a huge plot to get people to buy one console
- tymme, on 05/13/2008, -0/+5I don't understand this at all. Unless one has glaring issues, you're not going to see the difference unless you're running them side-by-side anyway.
- inactive, on 05/13/2008, -5/+12mislabeled? ***** those ***** mislabeler *****. and while i'm at it ***** you too for being so helpful.
- TotalHalibut, on 05/13/2008, -0/+4Anyone who thinks they can watch and judge HD quality footage on Youtube is a ***** idiot anyway.
- acetv, on 05/13/2008, -3/+8Dugg for being disgruntled.
- smek2, on 05/13/2008, -2/+6"Our video editor on this particular project is not a games person" -- makes me wonder who else at GameTrailers is not a "games person".
- inactive, on 05/13/2008, -2/+6That's the only appreciation I get. Thank you.
- djdingo, on 05/13/2008, -8/+13Gametrailers.com is an honest site, I visit them daily. They have lots of great content and I don't see them going the way of gamespot.com.
Anyone who threw a fit over this, it was an honest mistake, get over it. - dsmx, on 05/13/2008, -2/+6The xbox 360 has more pop in however it has a higher framerate and the whole look of the game is cleaner and more clinical looking. The PS3 version has less pop in, slightly lower frame rate (3-4 fps at most) and the game has a warmer look to it.
- mistahroth, on 05/13/2008, -5/+8Anyone else just wish these kinds of videos didn't exist in the first place?
- JayD16, on 05/13/2008, -2/+6It would be a lot easier to give game trailers the benefit of the doubt when there weren't already a history of making the PS3 look bad. I'm not saying they're fan boys but it makes it seem like they drum up controversy for hits sometimes.
Things like this and them not using the best settings for most consoles (limited HDMI color etc.) make it hard to put merit in these comparisons. Also more often then not these 'mistakes' lean towards benefiting the 360. It seems statistically improbable for the mistakes to be so one sided. -
