"...the PS3 and bravia were worth every penny. Then again, I'm not poor or too lazy to do a little work to afford a PS3. Let's see PS3 =$500/10hr at McDonalds or wherever = 50hrs of work. That's not too much for a machine with this much to offer."
Ken, is that you? - knodi, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12april 1st = april fools...
just a little reminder - Nobi-Wan, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9What does "LEAKES" mean?
- AhrenBa, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Wow, that is insane. $99 for a 20GB hard drive! Ripoff...
- Nobi-Wan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6You can use your Apple iPod or Sony PSP through the USB ports on the Xbox 360. How's that?
And please don't bring up proprietary ANYTHING when trying to defend Sony. I don't think we need to go there. - diafel, on 10/12/2007, -5/+10Right, because everyone wants a 120 gig drive, HD DVD, Wifi and Xbox Live.
- MouseCircus, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8Tubejay, read Diafel's comment. That's the flaw in your logic.
Not everyone wants a media center, wi-fi enabled, HD movie playing beast. Some people(like me) only want a console for its games. And as far as games go, the 360 is much cheaper for me. I doubt I'll ever need to upgrade to the 120GB drive because I don't download anything beyond game content.
Considering most people don't have HD TVs, I'm going to assume that they'd think the 360 is cheaper than the PS3, too. Feature for feature, the PS3 is cheaper, but I don't care for, nor can I use the majority of those features.
Call me biased all you want. - Nobi-Wan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Sorry for double posting (damn edit time).
4/1/07 is a Sunday. Aside from being April Fool's Day, NOTHING ships on Sundays. - TheDiggMan, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Here is a mirror just in case:

And even if you pay the full price, it's only like $4-5 per month. I'd say that's a meaningless sum of money for just about everyone here on Digg. Sure, having free online play is nice, but sometimes you have to put things into perspective.
Xbox Live *is* one of the good things Microsoft has come up with and I don't mind paying for it as long as the price is reasonable. Still, I hope Sony manages to develop their online offerings (free or not) to similar level. Something like Gran Turismo 5 should be amazing online. - Joybook, on 10/12/2007, -5/+8Dude...it's a friggin 120GB hard drive for $150 bucks...That is almost half the price of an actual 360. We're getting raped.
- zizzy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Considering how much it costs, I doubt it.
- Nobi-Wan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I also love the fact when someone tries to justify the cost of a PS3 by adding FOUR YEARS of Xbox Live and say that it will equal the cost. Never mind the fact that:
1)Xbox Live may reduce the cost of Xbox Live within that time of nearly half a decade
2)The Xbox 360 itself will drop in price...possibly multiple times during that period (whereas Sony has admitted they don't plan to price drop the PS3 for two years)
3)Whatever game you play on Xbox Live you won't have to worry about the company shutting down servers or games. With Sony's "free" service you also have no say when they decide to shut down the online portion of the game you bought (i.e. Metal Gear Solid 3 servers shut down in less than a year). I have full confidence that I can play even the completely crap games online 5 years from now. - Nobi-Wan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3@ Segitz
Uh, I bought a 13 month Xbox Live subscription off Craigslist for $20. The year before that I bought another subscription off Ebay for $25. If you're not a lazy ass you can do a quick search and find a pretty cheap alternative to paying $50 for a subscription. - charlescheese, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@Diafel,
What, are you stalking me? How about this, go look at what I was saying back in November when I bought a Wii. If you want to peg everyone who likes the PS3 as Ken-boy's that's your problem. I don't care what you think. I'll say this, I think you're getting a lot less with the 360 for what your HD future needs will be, in the end. I grant you that not everyone needs blu ray today, but they will. HDTV's are bombing in price, and they are selling like CRAZY. People will want HD content, and when they have to decide which HD player to buy for DVD's, and then which HD game player to buy, they're going to look at the one that's cheaper for those two things combined (the PS3) and the one that delivers it all in one package (the PS3) and it's a not brainer of a buying decision.
Meanwhile, you have big ol' Softy with their 3 billion dollar viral campaign selling significantly over priced hard drives to their users (which makes it much more likely that you're on Softy's payroll, than I am on Sony's (again see my past posts say from may to december of last year if you need proof, I was no positive on the ps3)). - charlescheese, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Considering you can get 300gig drives for less than this, I doubt they'll be losing anything on it. In fact I bet you they are making AT LEAST 100% profit on these.
- knodi, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3april 1st is on a sunday this year. So ya good chance its fake.
- Segitz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I dont want to flame or whatever...
Yes I know, its MAINLY about the games, and games they got both. The PS3 is 200€ more expensive no doubt, but I also gives you a bit more, even if you have no idea, what it is about.
The thing that bugs me, is 60€ per Year for Live (current price of Saturn germany). When I buy a game, that has a mp mode, I want to play it, hence I have to pay for it (not so on PS3). In a 4 year lifecycle of a console, the price is no different anymore, and the price difference between both consoles is MOST likely to shrink over time (think of 200€ sweetspot in 2009 or so, for both), yet the PS3 will deliver more in one package.
I am certainly no fanboy, the 360 has great games, but it is in no way cheaper than a PS3 (if you want to play multiplayer that is). - CanadianGeese, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I have a lot of trouble believing this one. I think the $479 price is correct, not $449, and that date sounds a little fishy. I'm guessing it will be closer to late April at the earliest.
- charlescheese, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Haha, use your PSP or ipod. Give me a ***** break.
- kauko, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2"Considering most people don't have HD TVs,"
Well, "most people" hardly even know, or care, what an Xbox 360 or PS3 is.
However, I'm quite sure that a *significant* portion of prospective PS3/Xbox360 buyers do have an HDTV already or will be getting one when they buy a new console. I don't know where you live, but buying a new CRT is pretty much impossible here anyway.
HD is the future and the future is pretty much here, now. - swoosh_bnd, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I wonder if Microsoft is going to lose money on this hard drive in order to encourage people to download from the marketplace and use the online distribution of tv shows and movies.
- therealdeal101, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2If this is really the price then I will buy one. $50 more for 100 GB!
- Segitz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I am not trying to justify anything.
I am only saying the 200€ price difference is nearly inexistant if you are an online player.
Craiglist... I am German, and I am certainly not "man" enough to try and lose money there!
And yes, 60€/yr equal exactly 5€/mo. But what I am saying is, that usually consoles have a lifetime of 4-6 years (4 in terms of MS, 5 or even 6 in terms of Sony or Nintendo). If you want to play online, you HAVE NO CHOICE but to pay for it (unlike PC games, PS3 and Wii).
And MS may lower the price? Live is now online since 2001 or so and they didnt lower the price. It is not much (I am not ever saying it is much money), but it is something that sums up to a pretty high number in the end. Even if you only pay for three full years (60€ each in Germany!!) this amounts to 180€, which now puts the PS3s included Blu Ray and free online into a better light.
Of course Sony says, they wont lower the price. This would be a PR disaster of the highest order. NOBODY would buy them until the price gets slashed. The PS1 AND the PS2, both got a price reduction after 18months on market. I can see, Sony lowering the price by Christmas this year (if they dont sell to well until then, even after good games like HS, Lair or MGS get released), or by mid next year, the least.
And to nr. 3)
Many people do not understand, how online gaming works. Most games, even the 360 games, are hosted on the users consoles! Only the lobbies are hosted by Sony or whomever. It may happen, that servers of really bad games get shut down, but this is just normal. I mean, who wants to play those? I wouldnt want to pay 5€ per month, so I can play crappy games from now in 5 years! And the EU Metal Gear servers are still running btw.
And dont get me wrong, I think live is a very good service!! I am just trying to put perspective on the price differntial of the PS3 and the 360 (when online gaming). - knodi, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4Most people buy consoles to play games and PS3 fails to be a good console.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+5I bought my PS3 for games. It's done much better in that area than my Wii has.
- Sneakernets, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3omg!!!!
Why not use a normal HD instead? Oh wait. - jacksons98, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2Ouch Microsoft really likes to stick it to their customers with these accessory prices. $150 for 120gb drive. lol
Hey Microsoft why don't you let people use the USB ports on their X360 for non proprietary accessories like PS3. - charlescheese, on 10/12/2007, -17/+4Hmm, so Premium 360 = $400 + $150 for 120gig HD = $550 + HD DVD Drive = $750 + Wifi = $850 + xbox live monthly payment on your system
or
PS3 with 60gb hd, Blue Ray Player, Wifi, free online (smaller HD, true, but it's upgradeable and you can put a 300gb hd in there for less than the 120gb drive on the 360). = $600 + 120gb standard aftermarket HD = $680
Gee, tell me again how the 360 is a good deal? I just don't see it. Pound for pound, you get more with the PS3, PLUS it has the added bonus of being more powerful, not today, but tomorrow for sure.
