- Elfin, on 02/05/2008, -1/+56This has been a mess so far for Cnet, hope they learned a lesson.
- chris9902, on 02/05/2008, -1/+53All these ex-gamespot guys should get together and start a new site. Somebody needs to change the 7-10 scale games are rated.
- HCviolence, on 02/05/2008, -2/+52Revision 3 should scoop them up to make a gaming podcast.
- WRE3, on 02/05/2008, -1/+21With Greg Kasavin,Jeff Gerstman, Ryan Davis, Rich Gallop, Alex Navaro gone, there's really no reason to ever go to Gamespot again. I fear all the talent, save Brad Shoemaker and Ryan MacDonald, has left Gamespot. Their soul is gone.
- TheRealDj, on 02/05/2008, -3/+15So where are all these people going? I loved their podcasts and want to be able to follow them with what they'll be doing from here on out.
- Lionhart, on 02/05/2008, -2/+13They should really team up and start their own independent site. I think we could all appreciate that.
- 1337Einstein, on 02/05/2008, -1/+12No, there are many more nails left to hammer in.
- danielplainview, on 02/05/2008, -2/+11o, they are so *****, and i'm glad
- glock22ownr, on 02/05/2008, -0/+9They've learned nothing. The only thing that will happen is that now Gamespot ( maybe as always ) will just have fake reviews. They'll float for a little while and maybe sink. Look at their Q&A surrounding the termination what a bunch of political *****. An " internal review " is why he was let go... BULL !
- chris9902, on 02/05/2008, -2/+11A spot for games.
- wild, on 02/05/2008, -3/+10Sarcasm? Oh god I hope that was sarcasm...
- Magee1205, on 02/05/2008, -3/+9I can't wait for Jeff's new site. Hurry up already!
- mrfreeziexp, on 02/05/2008, -3/+9Final nail in the coffin?
- XBSHX, on 02/05/2008, -0/+4they all have blogs, jeffgerstmann.net, there are links to all of the others blogs on the side, Ryan Davis, Alex Navaro and Rich Gallup
- EvilFerret, on 02/05/2008, -0/+4Revision3 needs to pick these guys up for a show. TTRS covers a game or two every week, but it's clear they have no idea how the gaming industry works. They talk about gaming from the uneducated consumer side of things. A Revision3 version of On The Spot would be so much better as far as learning about industry news. For example: The Totally Rad Show is obviously not going to cover GDC, I doubt they'll even bring it up. I also doubt TTRS will ever even do something small like a developer interview. If Revision3 got the old GameSpot crew, they could go to these events and cover them for us.
- l0k0, on 02/05/2008, -1/+5Flashback to when Greg and Carrie were there to now. Their E3 coverage was great, On the Spot was great, the rating system wasn't so silly, and I was on the forums almost daily. Now? I haven't posted or watched an episode of On the Spot in months. The system wars forum is still overrun by twelve year olds. Save for tournament TV and the redesign, almost everything has gone downhill. I still respect the opinions of Ocampo and Shoemaker, but they barely have any personality and aren't very fun to watch at all. 1UP, IGN, and Gamespy, are pretty decent, but I doubt they'll ever be as good as Gamespot used to be.
- inactive, on 02/05/2008, -0/+3It's the brown spot you leave in your 'roos after gaming all day on the couch.
- inactive, on 02/05/2008, -0/+3Reviews are untrustworthy!!!!
Let me ask you, how do you guys buy shoes? Do you read reviews based on their athletic performance? - zengonzo, on 02/05/2008, -0/+3It'd also be nice to get generalized reviews for games, as opposed to one game-one reviewer. Why not have a few people play and discuss a game for a few days, rather than one guy run through it from A-Z and list out the technical details?
- pimpdad82, on 02/05/2008, -4/+7GS will move on. There are more than enough nerds who have opinions about games.
- sgtpppr, on 02/05/2008, -0/+2That's why I like rottentomatoes.com method of ranking: percentage of reviews that are good. There is no unified ratings system and comparing one site's reviews against another is like comparing apple to oranges. At least with rottentomatoes, they are simply telling you what percent said it was good. Plus, I also like meta reviews like this (and no, the meta critic reviews Steam uses still is comparing apples to oranges to get their rating).
- Cyborg326, on 02/05/2008, -1/+3yay more suffering for GS. Also I didn;t know alex left too, so now there's basically no one left there.
- Dracusis, on 02/06/2008, -0/+2They should start a new site, gameblob or something.
- MrFisty, on 02/06/2008, -0/+2Anyone know if there were any repercussions on that Josh guy, sorry, douche, who started this whole mess?
- inactive, on 02/05/2008, -0/+2buttsecks?
- TheTjalian, on 02/06/2008, -0/+2Disagreed. They WERE good, but now, they're a former shell....
- Kenzan, on 02/05/2008, -0/+2I remember the good old days, when the only game reviewers' opinion that mattered was that of Sushi-X.
- djSyndrome, on 02/05/2008, -0/+2Yes. Make sure you put the key phrases 'I have no ethics' and 'I'm all for Payola' on your application. You'll get right in!
- FormatC, on 02/06/2008, -0/+2 I bet the suits at Cnet had no idea that a piece of ***** game like Kane and Lynch would lead to the demise of Gamespot.
- ericrous, on 02/06/2008, -0/+1***** probably got a raise.
- retrovertigo, on 02/06/2008, -0/+1Damn, besides Jeff, I thought Ryan Davis was the funniest guy on the Hotspot. Man, this is quickly becoming my least listened to video game podcast.
- ericrous, on 02/06/2008, -0/+1Their words mean nothing until they rehire Jeff and fire that douchebag (Josh Larson) who canned him.
- crossmr, on 02/06/2008, -0/+1So, you're saying there is a job opening?
- kingmanic, on 02/05/2008, -1/+2Netcraft confirms this?
oops wrong site... - Tulleh, on 02/05/2008, -2/+3but it was crap..
- troydoogle7, on 02/09/2008, -0/+1100% I thought they had fired the guy who fired Jeff.
- thomasthecat, on 02/05/2008, -0/+1http://www.gamerswithjobs.com is a good site that breaks that mold.
- cmoreland, on 02/05/2008, -4/+5'themselves'
FTFY - mrferg, on 02/05/2008, -0/+1Normally I never watch gaming podcasts, but if one showed up on Rev3 I'd definitely watch.
- JordanM85, on 02/05/2008, -1/+2I don't go to GameSpot anymore. It's such a terrible site, and now you can't even trust their reviews.
- pronouncable, on 02/05/2008, -0/+1Don't forget Mechburg. Honestly.
- cosequin, on 02/05/2008, -1/+2Gamespot treats their employees like absolute ***** *****. When I worked there my boss even admitted it!
- Budman21901, on 02/05/2008, -0/+1My hat is off to these guys who refuse to cash out on a review. They were hired to review a game, and if they don't like it then its fair to give that honest review. Honestly i have not seen one bad review from Gerstmann, and every one was spot on! If the game sucks, then it sucks! Its time for these internet company's to realize that the internet is not TV. We the people have a voice, and that voice is way more powerful then a sponsor, or a cash out. That voice is spread very quickly, and it can make and break you! I wouldn't worry about the guys that leave Game spot. They are very talented, and i am sure there is a honest reviewer that would love to have them on board.
Gamestop, Was it worth fireing your best reviewer over a complaint from a client? He reviewed there game and it sucked. Well, that was the true review. It did suck! Now other employees are done with you. Enjoy being lonesome. I hope your demise takes less time then realplayer. - inactive, on 02/05/2008, -1/+2Troy,
My name is Michael Eugene Smith and I am Acting Director of Marketing and Communications, for CNET Networks.
We here have decided to express to you in a neutral public forum that we are in fact sorry for all that has transpired over the last year and a half.
Unfortunately because we are traded publicly we have been advised by members of our company's financial team and legal council to not post as you have suggested, an official apology on our main page for GameSpot. We however have come up with an acceptable alternative that would address your concerns. We have decided to do absol-*****-lutely nothing.
We have a bussiness to run, and you have a face that needs to be stuffed with Cheetos. We'll do us, and you do you. Thanks for the feedback jingleheimer.
PS. My cousin's got some magic beans he is selling. - Jeffler, on 02/05/2008, -0/+1Well, I'm a huge Hotspot fan, but we're now down to two more guys until I stop listening (Brad and Vinny). I already don't go on Gamespot.com so its getting closer to me totally boycotting.
- noseeme, on 02/05/2008, -1/+2i think ryan davis is a pretty cool guy. eh leaves gamespot and doesn't afraid of anything.
- Varz, on 02/05/2008, -0/+1Thats why I usually like to read/watch a few different ones. I also ignore the user reviews, especially for big titles as fanboys will ***** up the rating, giving a game a 9 or 10 without having played it.
- darkchild82, on 02/05/2008, -3/+3I'm not totally surprised by this move because it was bound to happen given how close Jeff & Ryan were. I can't wait to see what they are going to do next.
