Operating System: Microsoft Windows 2000/XP/Vista - SirNoobius, on 10/10/2007, -8/+99it's the same as Half life 2 retards.
- wisedude, on 10/14/2007, -28/+101HOLY *****!!! No way these are the same as Half Life 2 requirements right? I mean it's not like it's the same engine. I mean there's no way that we could've guessed these three years ago. NO WAY!
- Sinistocrat, on 10/10/2007, -0/+58I don't think I've ever been more not surprised.
- wageslaven, on 10/14/2007, -1/+45Pretty modest.
- andrew522, on 10/10/2007, -1/+40compare these to the Bioshock requirements, and they look extremely modest.
That is about what I'd expect anyway. - plbland, on 10/10/2007, -5/+37I'm literally digging this now to annoy you.
- xerus, on 10/10/2007, -0/+32Wow. My 2 year old PC can run modern games fine. You must be doing it wrong.
- Godmil, on 10/10/2007, -1/+32I think he was being sarcastic.
- Gir53457, on 10/10/2007, -0/+28Thats whats great about the source engine. It's highly adaptive but can still render beautiful scenes on a sub-par systems.
- BugMeNot2, on 10/10/2007, -0/+24Except that DX7 support was dropped. (Which is a good thing.)
- Destinatus, on 10/10/2007, -5/+27Why does this have so many diggs? it's pretty useless
- chris9902, on 10/10/2007, -1/+23because Valve do things right. Did you see the TF2 trailer about the rendering in the game? A LOT of work went into it.
- Saiing, on 10/10/2007, -5/+25"upcoming hit game Half-Life 2: The Orange Box"
How the hell can it be a hit game, if it's upcoming? A "hit" doesn't happen until it's released.
Digg's summary writing hits yet another low. - ethon, on 10/10/2007, -0/+17Actually, the renderer has gone through significant changes since HL2:E1

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Source_engine#Modularity_and_notable_upgrades - lordtyros, on 10/10/2007, -1/+17Amazingly modest. Those recommended specs wouldn't have been out of place 3 years ago.
- Optimaximal, on 10/10/2007, -0/+15So basically, System A is the 'Recommended' spec, whilst System B is the 'Minimum' (decently playable) spec... Doesn't take a genius does it?
- tofagerl, on 10/10/2007, -2/+17B4...? Oh, damnit, you've sunk my battleship!
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+14Beautiful game with awesome story, graphics and gameplay without having to spend a small fortune to play it. This is why I am a Valve fanboy.
- simpleid, on 10/10/2007, -1/+14if you don't get what wisedude is saying, for example like thesaladman, is that all half-life 2 mods are all based off of the same game engine, they are all from the same framework which is what practically determines the min requirements. all half-life 2 official titles, and all hl2, even half life 2 itself, is really just a "Source Mod" ... since all are based on Source.
so there's no reason to suspect or be anxious about what the min requirements are for a new title that is being released from Source. - nonymous666, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12" Wooosh! " Over your head.
- carl25, on 10/10/2007, -2/+13wait
why are people surprised ? source engines have always been amazingly optimized
And to icsbase, i just checked my usage on cs source on a 32player server and it was 50% and i have a e6300. - sark666, on 10/10/2007, -2/+13I wish games would state requirements like this:
System A can maintain 60 fps throughout the entire game.
System B can maintain 30 fps throughout the entire game. - timdorr, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11I've tried with CSS, and it's rather slow/buggy. I'd recommend just booting into Bootcamp for the best experience.
- scabbers, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10Look, mr bubbles - frame rate!!!
- Orderless, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9It's better. It'll run the game well.
- Detritus, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9Thanks for posting this Sk8. My jaw dropped open at the ***** audacity of these guys to try and run some Java Futuremark bs instead of coughing up the stats.
- borninda818, on 10/10/2007, -3/+11Is that a joke? Sarcasm of some kind? You could build yourself a computer for 500 dollars that would play almost all the games out there right now and do all the other ***** computer have been known to do. Definitely a better deal over the Xbox 360.
- Ahnteis, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8You do know that it's not the same version of the source engine. Right? Or were you thinking that they were just making new levels and not changing the tech at all?
- MonkeyFit, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8Core 2 Duo is way better than a Pentium 4. Then consider the fact that it has 2 cores.
- Slovenian6474, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8or a 3 yr old computer that's lying around the house.
- Slovenian6474, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Maybe they mean exactly what they said....any directx 9.0 card.
- Exodin, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9wisedude: dumbest "I'm smart" comment ever? The engine has been upgraded since the release of Half Life 2. See: Episode 1, Any game in the Orange box.
- tdous, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7I do. It wasn't very good sarcasm it that's what it was.
- tdous, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7It nice to see a game with a bit of a tale to it. Even if you're just on rails it's so much more interesting and immersive. I hear Bioshock is similarly deep if you pay attention to that sort of thing. I guess in both games you can ignore all that and just go kill stuff if you prefer to.
- Zaggynl, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Thanks.
That's pretty modest indeed, as expected from used engines. - Spuy767, on 10/14/2007, -1/+8Shockingly enough, HL2 came out what, almost two years ago? I'm really flummoxed to imagine why anyone would expect these system requirements to be that different from HL2 or Lost coast.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7Amen.
I have a 6800 with a a8n sli and a gig of ram and a 3000+ amd
I run games just fine - Modiga, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Also after the release of the orange box, the Source engine will offer multi-core support so the Core 2 Duo should easily beat the P4.
- nonymous666, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7In other words, "you need a PC"
- renegadeafk, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5No, the quad is worse, I'll trade my 3.0 Ghz p4 for your quad so you can have a faster one, out of the kindness of my heart.
- tdous, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5So completely retarted.
- ogore, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Whats it's out of pocket requirements?
- Subvexer, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5"I don't like food anymore!"
- Wartz, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5"I'm getting a quad-core dell" - I stopped reading right there. Anyone who buys dell besides some dude who's getting 500 PCs for a university is a retard.
- Optimaximal, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5No it's not. It all depends on the affinity of the process and how it's being reported. If it has a single core affinity (i.e. a single-threaded app) and its reporting 50%, it's using 50% of the core it's currently associated with - that's the whole point of the Affinity option, as you can tell it which core it 'can' grab.
If a multi-threaded app was using 50%, then it might be using 100% of a core, but thats something you can never tell without watching performance graph. - givemereplay, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Man there are a lot of snotty pricks in this thread. TEE HEE ITS THE SAME UR STOOPID! Actually they added a lot of new lighting effects and if you had read anything beyond this article about the game you would have known that.
- dagnabbit, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Team Fortress 2 and Portal are 2 new games that come in this box.
- tdous, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4I *hate* controllers/gamepads/whatever you wanna call em. Keyboard and mouse for me anyday. It's a shame that so many PC games these days suffer from ported controller lag where they've tried to wrap the console controls round a mouse and the response is ass.
- christpr, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Even though it's the same engine they've added a heap of ***** to it for these 3 games. I'm personally very happy I'll be able to run this at the Recommended specs after playing bioshock.
