A sandbox game is never going to look as good as something like Gears of War, because the game area is larger by several orders of magnitude and the developers have no control over the player's movement (in an FPS the developers can skip rendering something off the "rail"). That said, this was the best looking sandbox game to date, easily blowing away the visuals from Saint's Row.
