GTA IV May Steal Revenue From the Iron Man Movie?
news.filefront.com — Mike Hickey, the analyst who said Halo 3 was responsible for poor movie ticket sales (as opposed to the fact that it was mostly pure dreck like The Heartbreak Kid at the time), is now predicting the same thing will happen when GTA IV is released.

- LongShlong, on 03/14/2008, -2/+17Good input, jackass. Oh crap, I'm not helping, am I?
- linuxrocks2007, on 03/14/2008, -1/+13No. Oh wait...
- LongShlong, on 03/14/2008, -2/+17Good input, jackass. Oh crap, I'm not helping, am I?
- RugbyAnderson, on 03/14/2008, -5/+91hmm... watching robert downey jr... or play GTA IV all weekend??
hard decision- Falldog, on 03/14/2008, -4/+71Do both. Sounds pretty easy to me.
- Lnet, on 03/14/2008, -16/+1How about no?
- DiggzDE, on 03/14/2008, -0/+15How about yes. What else you gonna do? You know you don't have a life anyways.
- spudnic, on 03/14/2008, -0/+4That's what I don't get, even if they don't do both opening weekend, they'll go see it next weekend or during the week instead.
It might suck a bit of the opening weekend revenue out, but they'll still get the money. - prophetpimp, on 03/14/2008, -1/+3Only if the DVDscr gets out.
- Lnet, on 03/14/2008, -16/+1How about no?
- Alix7, on 03/14/2008, -18/+10How is that a hard decision at all? If I was forced to pick one, it would be GTA4.

- lloydruberus, on 03/14/2008, -1/+4http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia
- sanman, on 03/14/2008, -14/+4Are you kidding me? Iron Man wins hands down. A game can be played anytime, but a blockbuster should be seen while the rush is on. Besides, Iron Man is superhero sci-fi, while GTA-IV is just ghetto action. And it's not even boyz n da hood ghetto action, but euro-trash imitation stuff. Rockstar is famous as new kids on the block, but they're not Marvel Comics.
- Netrilix, on 03/14/2008, -1/+10Are you kidding me? A boat's just a boat! But a mystery box could be anything! It could even be a boat!
- tcnarss, on 03/14/2008, -2/+0Netrilix, dugg for being a simpsons fiend!

- souljaboytellem, on 03/14/2008, -0/+18You might get your controller hand cramped, and go watch a movie for like 2 hours so you can ready it up again
- jpetrin, on 03/14/2008, -13/+4So play a low-life degenerate...or watch one on the big screen?
- Pillage, on 03/14/2008, -2/+7Only if he was in blackface.....
- EmperorAwesome, on 03/14/2008, -2/+7I do hope you're leaning toward Iron Man here.
- Falldog, on 03/14/2008, -4/+71Do both. Sounds pretty easy to me.
- greenknight1021, on 03/14/2008, -19/+6Won't bug me at all. I don't play GTA. But with as insane a following as that series has, it might affect ticket sales... Ultimately GTA will win out, but we'll hope Iron Man gets a good boost the weekend it starts. I'm ready for it!
- NGliam, on 03/14/2008, -1/+31I dunno, a lot of the "typical" video gamers are gonna want to see Iron Man so who knows.
Edit: Uh, yeah, this was kinda referenced in the article. Rightly so. Giggle.- bot001220, on 03/14/2008, -0/+2With the exception of Iron Man and a couple of others, most of the movies coming out now were ***** scripts that were rushed in before the writer's strike began.
Why don't they take that into consideration? - spudnic, on 03/14/2008, -0/+3Indeed it was. Hearty laughter. Raised eyebrow. Sinister aroused look in eye.

- fasda, on 03/14/2008, -1/+3OK i'll bite what does secret invasion have to do with GTA 4 or the Iron Man movie
- JAKEJAX, on 03/14/2008, -18/+7I am not in to sandbox games so Ironman will get my mulla.
- cheesedog, on 03/14/2008, -0/+118I like it. Blaming poor box office numbers for a film that hasn't come out yet, on a game that hasn't been released yet either.
- Lukesed, on 03/14/2008, -1/+5Will people really decide not to see the movie the next weekend because they missed it in the first 3 days it came out? Seems like a lame excuse if the film doesn't do well.
- latova, on 03/14/2008, -1/+3I think they already know the movie is bad so they're looking for a scapegoat.
- Burrito, on 03/14/2008, -0/+2Do you not know the difference between "is now predicting" and "blaming"?
- enronias, on 03/14/2008, -1/+35good to see they have so much faith in their movie.
1) why not move the release date if it's such a big deal
2) I'm more excited about the movie than the game - scallon, on 03/14/2008, -3/+48GTA IV looks impressive, and I am sure I will end up owning a copy at some point, but nothing will keep me from seeing the ultra-badass Ironman on opening weekend.
- souljaboytellem, on 03/14/2008, -12/+5Until you get about half way through...then you will leave and go buy GTA IV
- Falldog, on 03/14/2008, -0/+53Makes you wonder what Sega Genesis game caused Paris Hilton's latest movie to tank completely...

- bullcutter, on 03/14/2008, -1/+19Blaming video games for the poor box office performance of crappy movies must be somebody's full-time PR job at Paramount studios, as there's otherwise no justifiable reason to do this.
Its like blaming the bad sales of Ghost Rider on the Nintendo Wii- MRintheKeys, on 03/14/2008, -0/+0No Ghost Rider has itself to blame for that one...
- o0joshua0o, on 03/14/2008, -0/+1Scapegoats are a tried and true method of justification, still popular today. See: RIAA vs. P2P.
- Christbait, on 03/14/2008, -1/+15That's right Mr. Movie Industry, put it all on Mr. Game Industry's tab, it's never your own fault for ***** output, no no!
- DarkSamus, on 03/14/2008, -3/+14thank god i didn't go see that piece of ***** 10Kbc, heard it sucked mammoth balls
- bejayel, on 03/14/2008, -0/+9It didnt suck mammoth balls per-se. But it definently isnt $11 movie tocket worthy. Its a definate download or cheap theater movie.
- enchanterku, on 03/14/2008, -0/+3Yeah... it was worth a $4 matinée, considering that's the same thing it costs to rent from Blockbuster.
- bagelmaster, on 03/14/2008, -2/+1Yeah it blew donkey ass
- PathmarkPolice, on 03/14/2008, -0/+5I thought it was a dicsovery channel special when I first saw the preview, you know, those crappy CGI cave men shows?

- coheedcollapse, on 03/14/2008, -17/+3Good. I hope it does. Iron Man, to me, feels like another desperate attempt to pump the ***** out of special effects while completely forgetting storyline just to push out another comic book movie.
My friend is really excited about seeing it, but the trailer looked so damn stupid. I, for one, will be playing the hell out of GTAIV while he wastes his money.- SpectreFire, on 03/14/2008, -3/+12Dugg down for hatin' Iron Man.
- Xondar, on 03/14/2008, -1/+5I have to ask, did you see the same trailer I did?
- coheedcollapse, on 03/14/2008, -4/+2I don't know. He flies with some jets and there are a bunch of explosions. Looks like the typical Hollywood "Let's impress them with shiny lights and lots of money" procedure. I'm sorry that the fact that he's a commonly forgotten comic book hero isn't enough to make me want to see another big studio action orgy.
I dunno. Maybe I'm being cynical and it'll be great. The trailer I saw didn't do it for me at all though (the one before "Be Kind Rewind").
- coheedcollapse, on 03/14/2008, -4/+2I don't know. He flies with some jets and there are a bunch of explosions. - yohnstoppable, on 03/14/2008, -2/+4How can people bitch so much about the storyline of such movies? Same ***** when Transformers came out. If you are expecting movies based off of ***** comic books and toys to be Oscar winners, then you're retarded
- coheedcollapse, on 03/14/2008, -1/+1Who said I expected it to be good? If a movie isn't going to have a good storyline, then what the ***** is the point of making it? Oh yeah. To squeeze another dime out of the comic book fans that will see it no matter how horrendous it is.
- MrB398, on 03/14/2008, -1/+4So?
- kevgliss, on 03/14/2008, -0/+0all the money goes to the man anyway
- RooDoG, on 03/14/2008, -2/+32How about you buy the game AND go to the movies?
- kjcdude, on 03/14/2008, -0/+11you're crazy
- MRintheKeys, on 03/14/2008, -0/+0Only a true badass would do both at the same time
- hellbent88, on 03/14/2008, -7/+3lets all admit it video games will become the dominate medium
enough said - smokeymcdank, on 03/14/2008, -12/+3I think the title should read: GTA IV May Steel Revenue From the Iron Man Movie? HAHAHAhaha.ha..hah..heheh...omg
- BruceDude, on 03/14/2008, -1/+12If they're that worried about GTA stealing revenue, then it's probably a stinker.
- slyzxx, on 03/14/2008, -3/+1could always rent both so
- Goldbricker, on 03/14/2008, -1/+9Iron Man looks too good not to have a monster weekend. I will be among many enjoying both that weekend.
- o0joshua0o, on 03/14/2008, -0/+1I will bring my game console to the movie theater and enjoy both simultaneously!
- sleepbox, on 03/14/2008, -5/+4Game of the year 2008 right here. Cannot wait.
- Tyrghast, on 03/14/2008, -0/+3No, that's Spore.
- Sil369, on 03/14/2008, -0/+3No, Iron Man....the Game.
(vomit)
- Sil369, on 03/14/2008, -0/+3No, Iron Man....the Game.
- Tyrghast, on 03/14/2008, -0/+3No, that's Spore.
- deepcoiler, on 03/14/2008, -0/+17The analyst is named Hickey, so I am not going to take him very seriously.
- Loornadune, on 03/14/2008, -13/+2I don't see myself (or any intelligent person that I know that plays games) getting GTA IV. So yeah, who wants to see Iron Man this weekend?
- shit, on 03/14/2008, -0/+12In future news, sales of wireless controllers are up because everyone who bought GTA IV is retarded and drooled all over their hands while playing the game from the comfort of their wheelchairs. Meanwhile, Loornadouche is taking the intelligent high road by *watching a movie*.
- WaveyRavey, on 03/14/2008, -2/+3Hey guys only idiots play GTA apparently, i guess that means the world is *****?
- BlueSkyfish, on 03/14/2008, -0/+8I wonder if movie sales are down right now, now that Brawl is out.
- bagelmaster, on 03/14/2008, -3/+5Brawl is probably a good game and definitely a big title, but nothing compared to what GTA IV will be.
- SkinnerIJA, on 03/14/2008, -1/+1What would you expect? A lot of people have Xbox's, which is a crying shame.
- bagelmaster, on 03/14/2008, -3/+5Brawl is probably a good game and definitely a big title, but nothing compared to what GTA IV will be.
- gypsi, on 03/14/2008, -0/+2some people have to make decisions about their spending priority, there's only so much to go around
- akohut, on 03/14/2008, -13/+3"Iron Man" looks terrible. "GTA" is never terrible. Hard decision.
- Torx, on 03/14/2008, -2/+2Talk about MPAA reaching for straws.. sheesh.
- Harrison88, on 03/14/2008, -2/+3I know people who work at my local cinema who will be taking time off. If the some staff aren't going in you really think customers will?
- Defuser, on 03/14/2008, -7/+0I think you're a moron, and so are the people that are taking time off from their minimum-wage jobs so they can run over virtual hookers in a game aimed directly at mouth-breathing knuckledraggers. I have no doubt that some people will stay home and play GTA all weekend. The term for these people is "cretins". Frankly, I'm glad they won't be in the theaters. I wish we could find a way to keep them home permanently.
- bagelmaster, on 03/14/2008, -0/+8Must be pretty windy up on there on that hiiiiiiiigh horse of yours, huh?
- PopcornDave, on 03/14/2008, -0/+2Don't bother him, he's tilting at windmills and needs all his concentration.
- Accolade1, on 03/14/2008, -0/+5Nothing makes a comment like sweeping generalization after sweeping generalization.
- codered1322, on 03/14/2008, -0/+2We need all types of people in our society. Maybe not you though.
- bagelmaster, on 03/14/2008, -0/+8Must be pretty windy up on there on that hiiiiiiiigh horse of yours, huh?
- MRintheKeys, on 03/14/2008, -0/+1I never understood that...people always bash GTA about driving over hookers with cars. Like it was the only thing they could do. I always enjoyed GTA because of the freedom to do whatever you wanted as opposed to very strict and linear gaming.
- Defuser, on 03/14/2008, -7/+0I think you're a moron, and so are the people that are taking time off from their minimum-wage jobs so they can run over virtual hookers in a game aimed directly at mouth-breathing knuckledraggers. - x1soundgarden1x, on 03/14/2008, -3/+1buried for being old news...
- SeanRoss, on 03/14/2008, -0/+1I mean if it does steal revenue from the movie, aint that what you do in the game anyway. Pretty much goes with some of the themes in it...
- xGOATx, on 03/14/2008, -1/+6This is IRONMAN were talking about here, not HITMAN or DARKMAN, but IRONMAN
- accelleron, on 03/14/2008, -0/+14Steal? This is only stealing in the same way that McDonald's is "stealing" Burger King's clientèle. Go back to school, subby.
- usingpond, on 03/14/2008, -0/+3Idiot spotted.
- aceakm, on 03/14/2008, -4/+1If anything, GTA will take revenue away from Mario Kart.
- NathanialBurrer, on 03/14/2008, -0/+1Right, because GTA and Mario Kart have the same audience...
- harrison5394, on 03/14/2008, -7/+4Well I know what I'm doing, and it's watching Iron Man. I'm not playing a repetitive game all weekend.
- dreesemonkey, on 03/14/2008, -0/+1Yea, much better than going to see a repetative bottom of the barrel superhero/power comic rehash movie. Don't worry, I'm sure they're doing the movie strictly for the artistic value.
I've never even ***** heard of Iron Man, what kind of superhero is Downey Jr? Saving everyone from NOT forming a drug addiction? - jackrabbit, on 03/14/2008, -0/+1I love how neither the game nor the film is out yet, and both of you already have solid opinions on them. I'm sure that's totally healthy and open minded behavior.
- dreesemonkey, on 03/14/2008, -0/+1Yea, much better than going to see a repetative bottom of the barrel superhero/power comic rehash movie. Don't worry, I'm sure they're doing the movie strictly for the artistic value.
- Defuser, on 03/14/2008, -8/+1I certainly HOPE all the brain-dead retards that play GTA stay home instead of going to the Iron Man movie. It'll make the movie much more enjoyable for the rest of us.
- JudgeMonkey, on 03/14/2008, -0/+2I play and enjoy GTA, I am also going to see the movie. Maybe I'll be right there in the theatre with you. I guarentee someone who plays GTA will be regardless.
The only thing that has ruined the last few movies I saw, was not what game the other viewers played, but the annoying loud people. Why waste the hatred you could be spending on them, on some completely irrelevant aspect of a person's life?
- JudgeMonkey, on 03/14/2008, -0/+2I play and enjoy GTA, I am also going to see the movie. Maybe I'll be right there in the theatre with you. I guarentee someone who plays GTA will be regardless.
- BlackTye, on 03/14/2008, -0/+10In a word: No
The MPAA once tried to blame piracy for poor sales. Only to go on to have a record $9.63 billion by the end of the year. Sounds like someone just wants to justify raising ticket prices. - RationalXubrnce, on 03/14/2008, -0/+11GTA4 is the biggest release in ages, I bet the crime rate will even go down that weekend like when the Beatles played Ed Sullivan.
- yohnstoppable, on 03/14/2008, -0/+8The movie is less than 2 hours long, and looks badass. I don't see how people won't take that small amount of time to go watch it. When Halo was released, I wasn't going out to the theatre, and I dont' even play Halo. This was because the movies at the time sucked
- Flagg3, on 03/14/2008, -0/+2Why do people dig up useless blog spam?
Link to the original article:
http://www.next-gen.biz/index.php?option=com_conte ... - ShawnMattCraw, on 03/14/2008, -0/+4The only thing that points to bad movie openings is a bad movie.
- solid12345, on 03/14/2008, -2/+2Actually a more believable theory is not that GTA 4 will suck time away for people to go see Iron Man, more like 14 year-old boys who spent their allowance on GTA4 will not have the money to go see Iron Man opening weekend.
- VinnieDaMac, on 03/14/2008, -0/+1I'm sure it certain high profile games can affect box office numbers a little bit, but to say it's the sole cause for movies tanking is a bit of an over-exaggeration.
- ChiefIcaroc, on 03/14/2008, -0/+3Come on people. Every time I see the trailer It gives me the shivers. I'd rather see a movie about a hero than pretend to be a criminal all day. Plus, The real fight here is for superhero movie of the year between Batman and Ironman.
- TheKingInYellow, on 03/14/2008, -0/+2no contest. batman 100% will beat out an alcoholic in a flying iron lung and a violent immigrant.
- Cockdiesel, on 03/14/2008, -5/+1that's true .. I can play GTA and download Ironman all at the same time.
THEIR FAULT. It's up to THEM to invent a way for me to go to the movies and bring my PS3. - magellan1501, on 03/14/2008, -6/+0First off, this article is completely irrelevant since both GTA IV and Ironman have such small fan bases that neither will be affected by the other whatsoever.
- TheKingInYellow, on 03/14/2008, -0/+1how many people own PS3's vs how many people who give a ***** about iron man? hmmm? when you get down to it the whole thing is pointless.
- blankoboy, on 03/14/2008, -0/+3So now the MPAA is going to label GTA IV players terrorists and Take 2 as Osama bin Laden?
Who cares! We'll play or watch whatever the f*ck we want to....RIAA/MPAA better not start bitching again....STFU already.
