- The1337Dude, on 04/29/2008, -6/+34I'm still seeing Iron Man on Friday, regardless of me owning GTA IV.
- omnithought, on 04/29/2008, -0/+24"...gaming giant Electronic Arts - the biggest video game company in the world - has repeatedly tried to buy out Rockstar parent group Take Two Interactive Software Inc."
Can you imagine this series under EA? Pepsi ads everywhere, no innovation anymore and they'd probably actually cave to Jack Thompson to protect their image. Take Two takes risks and I hope they continue to stand their ground. - inactive, on 04/29/2008, -2/+25I wonder if the news covered "MOVING PICTURES MAY BE RADIO'S BIGGEST COMPETITION" stories...
- richmomz, on 04/29/2008, -7/+25Got the game. Played five minutes. My brain exploded. It's that good.
Yeah, Hollywood has competition. - hybridcreation, on 04/29/2008, -0/+13I love how Take-Two is giving EA the finger. They know that EA only wants to buy them to cash in on GTA IV...so they are saying "***** you...we're not caving to your hostile demands." Applause to Take-Two and a huge "***** you" to ***** ass EA. Worst. Game Company. Ever.
- inactive, on 04/29/2008, -0/+12It's more than just one problem. The lack of originality combined with video games getting better and better, and not just in graphics and gameplay, but in story lines, too. I replaced most of my TV watching with games (still love Lost and BSG and almost everything on [as]), so why wouldn't the next step to be to replace movies?
- luckyguy2000, on 04/29/2008, -0/+10no movie lasts for 30+ hours and if they would it would cost a hell more than $60. and in the case of gta4 its even more than 30+ hours. you can virtually play infinitely.
- martoq, on 04/29/2008, -2/+11If Hollywood could write as good as the Rockstar* team I might go see more movies.
- BinaryDelt, on 04/29/2008, -0/+9Just take your Ben Hecked PS3 or XBox 360 laptop to the theater with you. Problem solved.
- inactive, on 04/29/2008, -0/+8When the MPAA realizes that people will pay money to see a movie in HD in their homes on "opening night." Because I know I would. Living rooms are slowly turning into theaters, so the next step is to follow what some TV networks are doing and allow streaming (or a full download for something in HD). I don't think many people would bitch about DRM, either, as long as they could watch Iron Man in a non-cam format on opening night in their comfy couch eating non-***** popcorn.
- bosssmiley, on 04/29/2008, -0/+8Coming this autumn: "GTA, the Movie". :-|
- DangerMouse9, on 04/29/2008, -0/+7Get you laid outside the game.
- SharkyTech, on 04/29/2008, -2/+9Bought GTA today and will be going to see Iron Man on the weekend. Best. Week. Ever.
- nirav72, on 04/29/2008, -1/+8seeing Iron Man on friday , see Indiana Jones in 3 weeks after that and then Batman and so on...GTV IV will not stop me from going to the movies.
- Jwoey, on 04/29/2008, -1/+8It even helped put your brain back together so you could play it some more. That's epic good.
- DarKnight90, on 04/29/2008, -3/+10Iron Man looks wicked. I'll be doing both.
- je12u, on 04/29/2008, -0/+7Just bought my copy on the way to work. Walmart (I know, bad) is open damn early. Now I think i'm feeling sick and should probably go back home...
- secondwheel2, on 04/29/2008, -0/+7Maybe if ***** didn't keep releasing movies about comic book heroes to make a quick buck, then i would care
- kravex, on 04/29/2008, -0/+6Yeah, in other news people buy things that are better then other things....
- kravex, on 04/29/2008, -0/+6Came after stone man.
- Mullinsmcd, on 04/29/2008, -1/+7I would almost always prefer sitting at home watching it on Blu-Ray versus $10 theatre tickets for my wife and I while we listen to noisy kids of irresponsible parents and people on their cell phones. The movie industry doesn't need anyone to blame, they're doing bad by themselves.
PS - I will be playing GTA4 all weekend tho! - mannypdesign, on 04/29/2008, -0/+6Funny. GTA San Andreas was released late 2004; 2004-2005 were two of the highest grossing years for box office movies in the last ten years (approx. 9 billion per year). GTA III was released in May 2002--also a good year for movies at 9.167 billion dollars--and that was just in the United States alone.
Sorry, "reporting" like this smacks of the same crap regarding the whole BluRay/HD DVD ***** in which porn was supposedly decide which format would win. Oddly enough it was Hollywood that decided. With the lineup of blockbusters that are poised to start the summer GTA IV will do quite well, but I sincerely doubt it'll cause any sort of blip on Hollywood's radar. - dbr_onix, on 04/29/2008, -2/+8Indeed - and I'm not seeing Iron Man at all, regardless of me owning GTA IV...
- MadEnvoy, on 04/29/2008, -1/+7"WHAT IS DIGG DOING?!!??!" - Eating your babies.
- Morghin, on 04/29/2008, -1/+6All the news outlets keep repeating this piece of "news" to some degree. It's not really news. Of course it's going to be huge, and of course it's going to compete with any and all other recreational activities.
The biggest game in terms of content, fun and (insert more praise to GTAIV here) WILL beat the living snot out of mediocre cinema productions coming from Hollywood. - saunders45, on 04/29/2008, -1/+6As nifty as this game may be, nothing, and I mean nothing, will keep me from Indy.
- Shakermaker, on 04/29/2008, -1/+6Every thread you've posted in says basically the same thing. "Put the game in, my brain exploded."
Maybe you should stop repeating yourself, unless it's because your brain actually exploded. - inactive, on 04/29/2008, -0/+5Because those two things happen and have something to do with each other.
OH WAIT - surKaz, on 04/29/2008, -3/+8*Sigh*.. Yes.. Yes.. GTA4.. now gimme the game already!
- surKaz, on 04/29/2008, -0/+5Is there anything the game game can't do?
- craighoxton, on 04/29/2008, -3/+7This is from Canada.com - shouldn't there be a mention of hockey or maple syrup in the story?
- hybridcreation, on 04/29/2008, -0/+4"No movie costs $60 to get in to."
Yet. - strictnein, on 04/29/2008, -0/+4If you're not going by yourself it's almost there: Tickets for a family of four + food.
- insanecee, on 04/29/2008, -0/+4gee someone doesnt like to beat down hoes after you bone them to get your money back.... poor guy
- inactive, on 04/29/2008, -3/+7Iron man sucks!
Dugg me down after you come out of the movie theater! - maxlightz, on 04/29/2008, -0/+4Mortgage Crisis, Economic Recession, Foreign Policy, Federal Reserve ... are we really that worried about Iron Man's box office #'s ffs ???
- Draphilius, on 04/29/2008, -2/+6What better way to take a break from playing GTA IV by checking out Iron Man?
And yeah, I'll agree with the above sentiment that lack of originality will be Hollywood's downfall. I'm still shell-shocked that they made a freakin' Alvin & The Chipmunks movie. /facepalm - pell, on 04/29/2008, -1/+4No movie costs $60 to get in to. (Hopefully) . I wonder what the budget on a game like that was.
- strictnein, on 04/29/2008, -0/+3No GameStop is bad as well.
Wait a second... is there any "good" place to buy a game from? - inactive, on 04/29/2008, -0/+3Failing to be timely, that's its hallmark though
- tHePeOPle, on 04/29/2008, -0/+3inevitably produced and directed by Uwe Boll...
- GlassAgate, on 04/29/2008, -1/+4I wonder how many years until theaters become extinct.
Any guesses? - crussell96, on 04/29/2008, -1/+4hmmm, my break from GTAIV was going to be Mario Kart.
- mrogi, on 04/29/2008, -1/+4Within its first two weeks of release, GTA IV will gross over $450 million. No Hollywood movie will come close to that number at the box office.
- kravex, on 04/29/2008, -0/+3Who's not 18 then....
- DarKnight90, on 04/29/2008, -1/+4Wow don't get out a lot eh?
- Kidsturk, on 04/29/2008, -0/+3I would imagine it might dampen sales of the Iron Man videogame crossover, also released this week...oh, and it's the ONLY OTHER game on the PS3/360 released this week. Somebody didn't want to plan ahead like the other children.
- fani, on 04/29/2008, -0/+3That was an intelligent post.
- Proctor, on 04/29/2008, -2/+5*Goes and plays his recently acquired (12:07am) copy of GTA IV*
