I mean San Andreas reviews said a lot of the same, and to be honest I was let down by San Andreas. Yeah they gave us a bigger map and more toys to play with, but that's about it. The story took a step backwards IMO compared to Vice City.

Their finances were in the red at the time because they spent so much money on this one game. Mark my words: this *will* be the best selling game in video game history hands down, leaving all the other records in the dust.

By my estimate this game could bring in close to, or even over, 1 billion during its lifetime. The GTA franchise will be worth a fortune, and this doesn't even include the potential that their other francises (T2 Sports, Firaxis (Sid freakin Meier!), Bioshock)
I remember Jim Cramer giving TTWO a "Sell" rating (even before EA's bid which raised the stock price 50% overnight) and although I think his opinions are generally good occasionally he is spectacularly wrong. As diablo pointed out Halo 3 sold 8.1 million copies within three months of its release as an X360 exclusive game - that's about 500 million dollars. Vice City sold 17 million over its lifetime. If GTA 4 is as good as the reviews are saying (that is, the embodiment of video game perfection) 16-20 million units for GTA 4 is probably a conservative estimate.

- brainboy77, on 04/27/2008, -10/+25i've been watching streams of the game, and i think it is the most perfect game of all time. it's not flawless,but it is a hell of a lot better than Ocarina. hands down. here's how you can tell: just ***** around in gta is about half as good as ocarina. put in the amazing story, great missions, and great multiplayer topple the puzzles of ocarina. also, an original story can't hurt.

Back then, multiplayer in consoles were just a dream and creating a cartridge powerful enough to carry hours of content would have been too expensive. Also, GTA IV didn't necessarily innovate video games (like how Crazy Taxi or GTA III created the modern sand-box game), but it did perfect what it featured. Kudos to R* for making a great game.
- richmomz, on 04/27/2008, -3/+5I think when people compare it to Ocarina they are not looking at it from a technical standpoint - of course a great game from 10 years ago doesn't look good next to a modern NextGen console game. It's the overall impact and the raising of the quality bar that's in question. OoT was a huge achievement back in the day - GTA 4 looks like it will be even bigger, AND have the added benefit of being a multi-platform game. A game like this only comes along every 10 years or so. But comparisons aside, I think this will be a game that everyone will enjoy immensely.

It's good to depict that the citizens have the right to 2nd amendment and not afraid to use it. Other than that, the protagonist is no different from any Enron executive.

GTA2 was hella fun, even if it did make you dizzy after a while from all that high speed side scrolling action.
