- ZigZags, on 10/12/2007, -0/+47Ahh the 80's, where people called you a jerk for going on a Sunday drive with your family... where giant hands came out of the sky and picked your car up only to be dropped to its fiery doom from an extremely high altitude right into an F-1 family deathrace for the sole purpose of playing pole position... whatever happened to those days & what became of the giant pole-position crazed hands? :(
- koick, on 10/12/2007, -0/+39-"HEY!"
-"Yeah?"
-"You look like a real jerk!"
-"Well, I *am* a corporate executive." - mangopants, on 10/12/2007, -2/+36It busted my crank, and left skidmarks on my soul.
- Grimdotdotdot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+28My God - a computer game advert with *actual shots of the gameplay*...
I wonder when they stopped doing that? - mindsnare, on 10/12/2007, -0/+19wow man that crossfade from the live action to the in game footage was SEAMLESS
- gmurray, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18When they were paid fairly. ZING!
- warmonger48, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18Another observation: since when did "Corporate Executives" drive Dodge Omni's?
- Quactaur, on 10/12/2007, -4/+21Digg put this in the wrong place. Digg down please.
- Quactaur, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18Can be summarized:
Ahh the 80s, LSD. - Punisher2K, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13Camera position? It's a 2D Sprite game. There isn't a "camera".
- Xoligy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10I think about the same time they released the PS1.
- dpk87, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Now thats how you make a commercial.
- RPharazon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Holy crap. The cars actually EXPLODED into a million tiny pieces with the family members inside them. They called company executives jerks, and got a disembodied giant hand to throw people out of their own car, then explode it into thousands of tiny pieces.
I miss the 80s. - skoles, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10I need that music for listening in my car. Track #4. Right after "Danger Zone".
- Mesach, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8its Muffy(wife), Buffy(daghter), and... Biff jr.(son)
- Canadiens1160, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Skidmarks on your soul, LOL!
Digg for it being filmed at the most excellent Laguna Seca Raceway. - astrotrain, on 10/12/2007, -5/+10I busted my Atari 2600 Joystick and left skidmarks in my Batman Underoos!
- bndocksnt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4i wish i could digg this comment twice. i would do it.
- mc7winkie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I can because I'm a corprate executive
- nullmind, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Wtf are the names of those "kids" buffy, murphy and something else?!
- tzmguitarist, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Technically, that's the Atari 7800 pictured at the end.
- Tabris, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4@avent:
When they realized FMV looks 10x better and fools 10x more people into thinking it's real gameplay. - manchld, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4if youtube is giving you trouble like it was for me, try the google vid alternative
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=4334310311130409005&q=Pole+Position - LacY, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Augh! I used to LOVE that cartoon--no one I know has even heard of it. They should have used the intro music to the cartoon in the commercial. I'm 25 and can still remember the stupid theme song.
- bedouin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3"Technically that's an Atari 7800 at the end."
That's a 5200; the 7800 wasn't even released yet. - astrotrain, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Pole Position... was good... Carmageddon is much better!
Pole Position was so popular, it spawned a Saturday Morning Cartoon Series... that had really
nothing to do with the game. This was in the 'Saturday Supercade' on CBS.... with Frogger,
Donkey Kong, Q*Bert, and of course Space Ace.
Dragon's Lair was on ABC at the same time slot ;) - Ukghster, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I really like how they used extreme image distortion and blurriness to make the real-life footage to in-game video transition - shows how bad the graphics were.
- astrotrain, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I wonder if his name was 'Jeff'....
(funny song!) - bultaco370, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1hehe, I noticed that too. This commercial is made of win and awesomeness.
- Mesach, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Or Volkswagen Rabbits for that matter.
- vannoy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1http://skidmarxz.ytmnd.com/
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2"Digg put this in the wrong place. Digg down please."
{sarcasm} Couldn't have. Digg v3.0 is now officially bug free... {/sarcasm} - OneAndOnlySnob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think I speak for everyone when I say, "HahahahAHAH!HAA!!!"
Why can't they make commercials like that anymore... - Teaboy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Err... 'this' should be 'these'. Why are we only allowed 7 seconds before the comments become uneditable?
- austinrf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I think my head just exploded.
- kd1s, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0{sigh} I miss Atari. I used to love Pole Position but then when TX-1 came out I was in my glory. Three screens - the wide aspect of the day. Now it's a little sub-sub-brand of some conglomerate. It was nice knowing you Atari!
- Teaboy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1This reminds me of Atari's Grand Prix on the Atari 2600. It was really crap, but I loved it at time. Mind you, I also loved Indy 500, which was controlled with this little paddle things. Anyone remember that?
- dep01, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2"It'll bust your crank... and leave skid-marks on your soul!"
eh? - Siskoraban, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0What an awesome song.
- warmonger48, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4So the guy's wife's name was Muffy? Hmmmm.....I wonder when the last time was he went diving.....
- techmonkey4u, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I'm dead; bury me
- kidc, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0What's really funny is that this was ripped directly from boingboing with the quote and all without referencing the source or attributing the quote to Coop
http://www.boingboing.net/2006/07/10/funny_old_tv_commerc.html
submitter is a lameass - robystar, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0I had that game. I'm glad they explained on the cartridge and in the comercial I was actually racing a car in that game and not a few blocks of cool colors:) Was that cartoon "Pole Position" based on this video game? That cartoon was pretty damn good. Viva La gay 80's!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2All that cheese made me leave skidmarks on my pants! lol
- Mesach, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2I'm guessing that its much like you trying to fool 10x more people into thinking typing @avent: will actually REPLY to a thread.
- optimus008, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2ahhahhh, I love the car explotions.
- Xoligy, on 10/12/2007, -11/+1It busted my crack, and left skidmarks on my socks.
- ZigZags, on 10/12/2007, -18/+4It left skidmarks on my crank, and busted my soul.
- litolist, on 10/12/2007, -15/+1Ahhh, if only Pole Position was ever that fun...I always hated how you couldn't change the camera view to inside the car. :-/
WTF does "bust your crank" mean?
