geez I didnt know they had that kind of a relationship!? - swOhio, on 10/12/2007, -8/+35Fanboyism aside, it does say something about a system when the largest third party developer says one system is now less of a priority due to less than expected sales. The Gamecube struggled greatly because of a lack of third party support, and now it seems the PS3 may suffer because of this as well. I don't think it will affect the PS3 nearly as much as it did the Gamecube, but over the next 2-3 years(before there are any large price drops) I think it will be a factor for Sony to deal with.
As easy as it is to knock on Sony these days I hate seeing any gaming system struggle. I enjoy having a variety of options when it comes to selecting systems/games and it keeps the companies competitive and striving to push gaming further. In competition between businesses, the consumers are always the winners. - JayD16, on 10/12/2007, -7/+26Because besides Resistance all the launch games were horrible ports of 360 games or Genji...and Genji was a sad disappointment. Screw EA anyway...its their lazy ports that ruined the PS3 launch lineup.
- chrillen, on 10/12/2007, -2/+21So that's what they call it these days...
:D - meatmcguffin, on 10/12/2007, -3/+21They had a good relationship at one point but they got divorced about ten years ago and Sony got custody of the PlayStation
- Icecream, on 10/12/2007, -3/+21Here in Australia we have no ps3 to hate.........yet
I own a xbox 360 and a wii...none of the games are in fact...EA - gsherwood, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19You almost made a good point there, but you went a little off the rails towards the end.
You are right about one thing; it is a matter of preference. If you like the PS3 more than the others, go buy it. If you don't, don't buy it. Pretty easy. - belteshazzar, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18@netdroid9
PS3 goes on sale March 27 in Australia ... - rockforever, on 10/12/2007, -11/+28Right, I want EA telling me which console to buy. Screw you EA. I loved my Wii long before you wanted me too.
- meatmcguffin, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16"Sony will beat off Nintendo"
Who, exactly, *couldn't* get that pun? - lagrange, on 10/12/2007, -4/+17"I discovered an interesting comment on the blog FreeRepublic.com'
Ok, stop right there. Go wash your brain out. - zetsurin, on 10/12/2007, -9/+21"resistance is almost as big a disspointment as halo 2 was"
As someone who actually played Resistance from start to finish and spent a lot of online time, I beg to differ. Your post states pretty much no realy reason whatsoever why it's a disappointment and flies in the face of reviews. Your 'points' are useless and almost totally irrelevant. - HappyScrappy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12As retarded as this story is, the dumbest aspect is listening to FreeRepublic for anything.
- WhereAmI, on 10/12/2007, -13/+24I want one. If I didn't have a life that involves studying all the time (oh, college) I'd buy one.
- altodarknight, on 10/12/2007, -23/+33If you ever left your house and stumbled into a randomly selected store, you would probably find plenty. Do you want to fork out $600 for a doorstop though?
- MrFlesh, on 10/12/2007, -4/+14WTF!! In his post he even states it's his opnion. Another half assed blog linked to another half assed forum linked to another half assed blog opinion piece held up to light as if it were the very stone the ten commandments were carved. With how much blatant disreguard of fact going on and how digg's system is being played more and more by companies I'm seriously starting to think 50% off the 360 fanboyism is microsoft or hired third party employees.
- InfinitySnatch, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12Well holy *****! If only I had read your insightful review of the system earlier. All this time and I didn't even realize my PS3 sucks. It's too bad nobody warned us before we bought them. You do actually have one, right?
- InfinitySnatch, on 10/12/2007, -8/+16Why is every other topic on Digg about the PS3 "failing miserably"? It's selling just slightly worse than the 360 when it first came out and the 360 had absolutely no next-gen competition at the time. As for the launch lineup, yes it sucked and Resistance was the only good game, but we all had to wait 4 months before the 360 got a game worth playing besides COD2. And right now the only game the Wii has going for it is Zelda.
I guess what I'm trying to say is, I know you all don't have the money to buy a PS3 after you bought the 360, but stop bitching about it! - br0ck, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9@swohio - You're right, but I think one big reason people are happy to see PS3 fumbling is that it means that games that would have been exclusive to the PS3 will now have to be released for the other consoles if the developer wants to make any money. So they won't have to pony up for a ps3 if they want to play games like the new Guitar Hero which likely would have been exclusives if the PS3 was doing well.
- Siraris, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8The funny thing is, NO one would post something like that as a game developer from a major corporation and sign their name. It's career suicide, so if this Drew Garret guy is looking to get fired, he probably posted it. Otherwise, someone made up that post.
And the best thing is, this guy from InformationArbitrage (who is this guy, and why should we care what he has to say?) claims to not be a fanboy, yet I've seen two negative posts about the PS3 from his site in the past few days.
Anyways, someone still needs to explain why this guys site is being dugg, and why this guy robpas is selling the site by submitting almost every blog entry written to Digg. - Psalms, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6EA just craps out a so-so game, with many useless expansions (I.E., the Sims 2), or make sports games that are sub-par but unchallenged (Every EA Sports Game.). We need more third-party game companies, but E.A. keeps buying them out, and making ***** games with their name.
- JayD16, on 10/12/2007, -24/+30I know I will get dugg down but, and I am being 100% truthful. My two room mates were fighting with me over the PS3 yesterday. One wanted NBA 2k7, one wanted to play Resistance and I wanted to finally finish god of war before the sequel comes out. It turned into a wrestling match for the sixaxis...I just looked at the Wii on the floor pulsing with a message.
Say what you want about it being overpriced but it is in no way a doorstep or not fun to play. - flr666, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Lol! Like I would let a Freeper tell me what console to buy! They were wrong abouth the Iraq war too :-)
FWIW I have both a PS3 and a 360 and they BOTH rock.
Buried. lame - Y2JCrisis, on 10/12/2007, -6/+12The thing is, Nintendo made available FAR more Wiis than Sony made PS3's and they STILL are selling out, while PS3s are sitting on the shelves. Nintendo made an attempt to get more of their product out while Sony made an attempt to create false hype, that backfired on them. By the time people could get a PS3, enough bad press was made about the PS3, and enough good press about the Wii, that nobody wanted a PS3 anymore. (Well, not literally nobody, but far less people than let's say... the day before PS3 launch.)
- duketogo, on 10/12/2007, -7/+13No gamer thats worth their weight in dog ***** gives a ***** about EA. I don't give a ***** what they say, go ahead and develop ***** games for other consoles. Good riddance.
- Dhalsim007, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Well, since I just saw my first PS3 "in the wild" this week (ditto for the Wii), I'll wait and see. EA will build for all platforms, just because they are capitalists, and want the money from ALL gamers everywhere. To say they'll give up PS3 now, only 3 months in, is flat out ridiculous.
- Company_Man, on 10/12/2007, -10/+15If it doesn't suck, WHY is the PS3 software attachment rate so un-*****-believably LOW? All Mr EA is saying, is that sales of their software for PS3 didn't meet the sales requirements necessary for a sustained development effort to spawn. oh well
Certain design decisions will cripple game software sales on this platform for a long time to come. - zetsurin, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9Yeah, ***** morons for choosing the superior format. How stupid would that be. I mean, anyone in their right mind would go for the format that offers a significantly lower storage space as that would make so much sense.
- zetsurin, on 10/12/2007, -8/+13I agree. Bear in mind though that the PS2 copped a hiding from the internet populace when it was released. The GameCube initially sold at a faster rate than the PS2 as well. The launch lineup of the PS2 was universally considered lackluster. The PS1 outsold the PS2 at the start of the PS2's life.
...And still the PS2 went on to wipe the floor with the competition.
The more they cry, the more humble pie they will have to eat. - fuzzy075, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6EA SUCKS.. Played Fightnight and got pretty boring, I was gonna buy NFSC but friends(X360) said it was crap, he stoped playing it after couple of days, oh MADDEN is not anything different.. just buy the previous version its the same thing lol. Call of Duty was okay. Resistance is way better but GOW smokes resistance. any way EA sucks. They need to make Quality games and Stop only worrying about their POCKETS.
- ibeetle, on 10/12/2007, -8/+12@zetsurin
You are completely right.
G4 sucks! G4 sucks!... oh wait. They said something bad about the PS3... G4 rules!!
EA sucks... EA sucks... they almost signal handedly ruined video gaming... oh wait. Someone made a remark that could be interpreted as saying the PS3 sucks.... EA f'ing rules. - DrunKao, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4congratulations ashlvsya.
- Y2JCrisis, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6It does seem though that as graphics get better, the games get easier, shorter, and less fun. I think its done purposely to try and promote sales of more games. NES games were far harder than today's games and didn't look anywhere near as pretty (obviously). If you don't believe me, go back and play Abbadox, or the turtle van stage of TMNT, or Contra. And it seems that Sony is the foremost proponent of this trend.
- wkndplaya, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7***** EA stay away from the WII ._.
- jacksons98, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5@company_man EA has never supported PS3 taking a few of their mediocre X360 titles and do mediocre ports to PS3 isn't supporting PS3, it's called trying to make a quick buck.
- apoc06, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4one EA employee's opinion now means that he is the mouthpiece for all of EA's future endeavors?
what one person says does not dictate EA's future investments. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6Rumble is last gen! Just like only needing one job to play games!
- apoc06, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7HD-DVD has lesser space, on average more expensive discs and only one exclusive studio's content [universal].
WB has smartened up, and is retroactively bringing all of their previously HD-DVD-only titles across to blu-ray.
even with their several month headstart, HD-DVD media is set to be outpaced by blu-ray by next month already. this was a format war? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+8"If you ever left your house and stumbled into a randomly selected store, you would probably find plenty. Do you want to fork out $600 for a doorstop though?"
Every store I go to is sold out.
And you'd have to be a moron to think of it as a doorstop - Coffeedemon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Yeah ... we don't want no third party games here... happy with 3 per year from Nintendo and 2 from UbiSoft.
- DavidGX, on 10/12/2007, -5/+8Sounds like sound advice to me, and sound advice coming from EA isn't a regular thing. I'm looking forward to playing games like Virtua Fighter 5 and Assassins Creed.... with rumble.
- MatttK, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Like it or not, losing the support of EA for your console is a huge deal. They make a lot of games. Some of them are better or worse than others but the fact remains that EA developing for a console will increase that console's chance of success (and the other way around). You might not want to play EA games but if your console tanks because of no third party support, you won't get to play the games you want to play regardless. So, basically, EVERY gamer should be very much concerned about who EA does and doesn't develop for.
- zetsurin, on 10/12/2007, -8/+11True, and funny to watch EA being hated on until this article. The Digg community desperately clutches onto opinions that 'confirm' their views (for want of a better word) regardless of the source.
- sacherjj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Why would owning a Windows PC make him a hypocrite? I will say that Sony is anti-consumer. I own a Windows PC. I will also say that Microsoft is anti-consumer. Telling the truth does not a hypocrite make. Apple is the only other platform that was software sufficient to my Video editing needs and I don't see them as any better in an anti-consumer DRM way.
- razorsharp, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Krymore, if you call Sony anti-consumer and own either an XBox or a Windows PC, you are a completely uninformed consumer. Or, worse, a hypocrite.
- Hindu_Wardrobe, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3That's hot.
- bangbangblah, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3haha, it's so true. Click on their user name only to see pretty much every digg being from that site. Can you say self-promotion? I can. They probably just knew how easily it is to get an anti-ps3 article dugg, and decided to keep trying until they went front page. ahhh, funny.
- Mrstupid7, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Negative hardware spec changes?
- Abaddon1125, on 10/12/2007, -5/+6Everyone acts like COD2 was the only worthwhile game at the 360's launch. I got a 360 at launch, and there were plenty of decent games to keep me happy for months. Kameo, COD2, PGR3, Perfect Dark 0 (okay, Perfect Dark 0 wasn't super awesome). It's not like there was only 1 game anyone would even consider getting, like with a certain other console. The whole "The 360 had only 1 good game when it launched" excuse is pretty weak.
- Chuck95, on 10/12/2007, -7/+8I went into our local Best Buy last night. There was a stack of probably 15-20 PS3's and no Wii's. The salesman said the Wii's still sell out the day they get them in. I live in a college town (a very large university) and I thought that was a little surprising. I figured if the PS3's would sell out anywhere it would be here.
