- JediPilot, on 07/15/2009, -2/+339Sweet! One less game to buy. ***** you, EA.
- jeremymccurdy, on 07/15/2009, -3/+240I wouldn't worry too much, I'm sure the pirated version will disable this annoyance. Just another reason to pirate games with DRM.
- tehhambone, on 07/15/2009, -2/+122There's absolutely no reason they couldn't save your player data while disconnected and upload it whenever you ARE connected. And then they have the nerve to say there's no DRM? What are we, retarded?
- inactive, on 07/16/2009, -0/+86***** EA for ruining this franchise.
- gamepr0, on 07/15/2009, -3/+87EA does it again, they can't do anything right these days.
I wonder what the solution wille be... editing the hosts file and setting up a localhost that simulates the normal response? - falco217, on 07/15/2009, -2/+72Alright, so you have to connect to EA's server always? Ok... EA's server is 127.0.0.1 and it says I'm connected. :D
- Whitebeard, on 07/16/2009, -0/+63I miss Westwood
- cgreentx, on 07/15/2009, -2/+63The most common place that I used to play C&C and other RTS games was on an airplane while traveling. So much for that.. I'll just skip this game I think.
- tabion, on 07/16/2009, -0/+60Yeah, I miss Westwood Studios
- WafflesID, on 07/16/2009, -0/+55Uhm...Surprise?
It's EA. They have wonderful and fabulous ways to make great games:
A) A pain in the ass to play for REAL customers.
B) Live up to 25% of their potential
C) Not have to be nearly as great because they bought out all the competition or bought exclusive licenses
D) Actually good every once in a while.
C) Finally decent after many years of yearly "upgrades" that you willingly pay for, because you always think "Ok, maybe THIS year they got it right!" - Joxterthemighty, on 07/15/2009, -1/+55I will connect if I want multiplayer and not connect otherwise, if game companies do not honor this then I will not purchase their products, just another example of idiotic decisions motivated by pure greed and a lack of customer service understanding.
- inactive, on 07/16/2009, -0/+48Sorry EA, after you stripped The Sims 3 of content so you could charge high prices for in game items..... ***** you.
- doshindude, on 07/16/2009, -1/+46First Starcraft 2, now C&C. What's with these retarded restrictions?
- inactive, on 07/16/2009, -0/+45One more game to pirate that will be available online cracked and ready to play before it even hits the shelves.
- Ajajadude, on 07/16/2009, -0/+40Most airports charge for Wi-Fi (unless you already have some sort of data plan with a specific carrier). Most airplanes don't have WiFi.
And I have yet to see a rest spot advertise free WiFi. Besides, who the hell is going to stop for several hours at a time, while traveling, to play a video game? - TMWO, on 07/15/2009, -2/+42Bull. *****.
- techweenie, on 07/16/2009, -0/+38My game PC does not have an Internet connection at all. Loved all the prior C&Cs, but didn't buy the last one because it required an Internet connection to validate. Looks like I won't be buying this one, either. Suck it, EA.
I've never gotten a pirated game before, but EA is now giving me a reason to. - Denominator88, on 07/16/2009, -0/+35DRM doesn't work. People will always find a way around it.
The game Oblivion, had record sales, and no DRM at all. No SecureROM, no serial key, nothing. Maybe if the industry started making more games that people would enjoy, we wouldn't have these issues. - Ceryn1126, on 07/16/2009, -0/+35The whole DRM thing worked out really well for Spore too as I recall.
- Stemnin, on 07/16/2009, -0/+34"as a nice side effect, since C&C4 requires players to be online all the time in order to prevent cheating, we'll be shipping without any form of DRM."
Yeah ***** right. Anyone care to predict how many installs we will be limited to? - xDynaBlade, on 07/16/2009, -0/+32There's no place like 127.0.0.1
- Vegabondsx, on 07/16/2009, -0/+28'You can use dial up'
So if I'm not near broadband I have to use dial up just to play the single player campaign? stupid. - MiracleBlue, on 07/16/2009, -0/+26Thank you, JediPilot. One less game to buy. EA can eat ***** and drown in their own DRM.
- holyskeleton, on 07/16/2009, -0/+25"You won't need a broadband connection, in fact you'll be able to use a dial-up connection to get the game to play."
pathetic - CoreyTamas, on 07/16/2009, -0/+25"We're assured that this is no big deal."
Oh, I have no doubt you were. - MAGZine, on 07/16/2009, -0/+24Just bend over a little farther...
- drewhoo, on 07/16/2009, -0/+23I'm from Australia and there's talk today of introducing "3 strikes you're out" piracy laws. I'll be using my first strike on C&C4 though :)
- creativecontrol, on 07/16/2009, -0/+22Ok so it's not technically DRM, but it's still a security feature to keep you on a leash.
Internet down? Looking to pass some time playing a video game to pass the time? Oops, not anymore. - inactive, on 07/16/2009, -1/+22but then how would you play it?
- homercles337, on 07/16/2009, -1/+22Lately, i have found that every game that i buy requires a crack to be playable. GTA IV was the one exception, even the crack didnt work (yes, i bought the game) so i took it back. Good riddance. I hope publishers realize the errs of their ways soon.
BTW, even the single player aspects of GTA IV required logging in to some social club. - Super6, on 07/16/2009, -1/+22Why can no one learn from Valve and Steam? We want our games, we want them easy-to-access without leaving home, we want discounts (IE steam holiday sale, everything 25-75% off, steam pre-order 10% discount), and we want quality games with no ***** DRM. Sure, Steam has DRM, but only in the sense that you can be logged on 2 places at the same time, it works offline and on as many PC's as you want.
This DRM stuff is ***** and it's time to stop, install limits, internet requirements, it's all a hassle and it gets cracked in under a week anyway, they only piss off actual customers. - homercles337, on 07/16/2009, -0/+21You got that right. No more EA for me. ***** 'em, they should stick with their ***** sports console games.
- TonyCubed, on 07/16/2009, -0/+21Well, in EA's eyes, yes, yes we are retarded. But I guess it takes one to know one, eh?
- inactive, on 07/16/2009, -0/+20"no need to worry, the game will be cracked within hours of its release for single-player customers"
- kingfoot, on 07/16/2009, -1/+21youre retarded. his GAMING pc doesnt have internet, much like mine. however my regular use pc (in this case a mac) is sitting here with its wifi on so i can connect to the internet.
its not uncommon to have more than one computer, let alone dedicated.
its nice to have a separate gaming computer to keep all the crapware off of, custom build, for the games only. max performance. the other computer gets to have all the applications and work files, etc. - Denominator88, on 07/16/2009, -0/+20Not when it first came out. It was added in a later releases.
- inactive, on 07/15/2009, -0/+20what in the ******* are you talking about? StarCraft 2 started this? Really? Not the copy protection schemes used on Spore and Bioshock and countless other games?
You are ***** *stupid.* - sicvik, on 07/16/2009, -0/+20do they WANT to go out of buisness? and who the hell even uses dial up?
- dafragsta, on 07/16/2009, -2/+21I say pirate the ***** out of any medium from any company that treats it's legitimate customers like pirates, on principle. ***** that. You can't control IP. You're lawyers think you can, but you can't. They are paid to create that illusion so you'll keep them on lucrative retainers.
EA, Blizzard, you're ***** morons. I guess they think their games are so great, they no longer need to endear themselves to their customers. - Sabin, on 07/15/2009, -0/+19I have no problem paying for games but when the pirated version is actually the better version then why bother paying?
- notSLICK, on 07/16/2009, -1/+20i have two words... bethesda softworks.
***** EA. - bjornski, on 07/16/2009, -0/+19Don't forget Spore and The Sims.
EA is quickly becoming the McDonald's of game companies. They sell a lot of ***** geared toward kids who don't know any better, but anyone looking for a quality product has learned to go elsewhere.
But don't expect any Happy Meal pricing from EA. - OptykUnreal, on 07/16/2009, -0/+19That's too bad. I really like Command and Conquer, but I am not going to buy it if I have to hassle with this.
- lnxfi, on 07/16/2009, -0/+18EA can go stick it's dick in the mashed potatoes.
- kplo, on 07/15/2009, -0/+18Yeah, that's kind of lame.
- inactive, on 07/16/2009, -0/+18There was, and still is.
- twiztidsinz, on 07/16/2009, -0/+183 at first...
Then 5 after the first flood of outrage. - Misinformant, on 07/16/2009, -0/+17Were you under a cave when they announced it? The internet exploded over that news.
- Arramol, on 07/16/2009, -2/+19They don't even have to have an install limit for it to be ridiculous. The requirement to be connected IS a form of DRM. The statement is inherently self-contradictory all by itself.
- bjornski, on 07/16/2009, -0/+17Yeah, on top of flushing Maxis down the toilet.
EA has been ***** up everything they've touched lately. If it says EA on it now, I just avoid it. -
