- scottauth, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I tried this on my 1.5 this morning. It worked.
It said it was a bit sluggish on Flash files that load MP3s, but all I did was watch "Magical Trevor." - scottauth, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1If it was not for the homebrew scene I would have traded my PSP in a week or two after I bought it. I purchased a ton of launch games with it, however the only one that I have kept is Lumines. That is an amazing game and needs to be brought to the PC or a consle (it would be great in an XBOX Live Arcade setting). Out of the current stable of games, I cannot think of a single one I would risk dumping emulators in order to play. Perhaps the PSP's rendition of GTA, but I'm sure San Andreas on the XBOX is enough.
The PSP is perhaps the most potential portable device on the market, but as long as Sony runs the show it is terribly useless -- especially if you cannot obtain a 1.5 firmware version. - alione143, on 01/04/2009, -0/+0for related information visit http://forex-ms.blogspot.com/2009/01/learn-forex-t ...
- joerod, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0will this play flv aswell? if so this is the bomb!
- FRAGaLOT, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Elric77
The PSP isn't overpriced compared to say.... an iPod. Considering what the PSP can do, and what the iPod can't do. In fact I bought my PSP for only $200 (used). Which isn't bad considering PSPs have only been out for less than a year, so even a used PSP is still quite new.
Playing Flash on a PSP is nice but it would be better if this was integrated into the web browser. Rather than a separate homebrew app. But a lot of cartoons, movies, and games are in .SWF format, are very small, and if you're into flash programming you can make a LOT of cool stuff with flash, and play all sorts of media.
YAY, I can watch all the Foamy cartoons on my PSP.
Fear his Squirly Wrath! ....portable! - tylerman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0its only a matter of time till you can upgrade the firmware and downgrade it at will.... eventually sony will probably give in on the homebrew apps
- ownedbytheman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0If I had a PSP, there are a number of flash games I think would be fun to have on there. Sounds cool to me.
- Dhalgren, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Homestarrunner on a PSP, cool
- xLiKx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0flash versions? you can play homebrew NES games already
- t1pimp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0My wife got me a PSP for xmas. The analog stick broke off (I'm 30, and dont play it as much as my 8 year old does). I called Sony to RMA the thing and they told me it was designed to not break and that it would cost $80 to fix it. $250 for 2 months use and I have to drop another $80 + shipping to get it fixed.
- TubaFrog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Now where can I find Flash versions of Nintendo games?
- RichMan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I tried it out. It would take a while to load a flash (anywhere from a minute to 10 minutes), then the screen would either go black and automatically turn off, or the flash would play with a smooth framerate, but would have absolutely no audio at all.
They give you a cursor so you can start flash animations that require you to click the "start" or "play" button after the pre-loader is done
This is really just a proof of concept. They've proven to me that flash is quite possible on the PSP. I hope that soon they get it working perfectly. - DFrag, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0How about playing the homestarrunner stuff!?? Thank you homebrew!
- Massif, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0There are some pretty sweet flash games out. If I had a PSP I would be excited about this.
- FRAGaLOT, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0o0joshua0o
You may want to freshen up on your homework too.
Not all homebrew works on 2.x It's simply an exploit with GTA: LCS to launch apps when loading a "special" save game for GTA. I haven't seen any one able to play ISO loaders with it. If anything it's a ploy to make people buy GTA: LCS, which everyone should have anyway. - deadbaby, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1@ownedbytheman: Yep, games. The PSP has maybe 2 or 3 good games, total. Flash games are the best you're going to get on the PSP right now. (and I'm a PSP owner, not some DS fanboy)
- xLiKx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0actually, there are hacks that work for the 2.00+ firmware so you don't need the 1.5 only PSPs to play homebrew stuff. do your homework before you comment
- o0joshua0o, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Good point, pentomino.
What a brilliant way to ensure your product doesn't sell well: do everything in your power to discourage people from buying it. It's almost like Sony doesn't have its customers' best interests at heart. - NGliam, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It doesn't work on my 2.6, but from what I've heard it isn't really worth getting anyway. I know Sony are working on getting a Flash player running on here, so the official one will be great.. especially as I'm a Flash coder and would be able to make loads of apps and games ^_^
- FRAGaLOT, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0tylerman
Not likely to happen. Sony has ALWAYS been anal-retentive about their technologies, and they are pioneers when it comes to SONY controlling the hardware/software that you own.
*ahem* rootkits *ahem*
They may let the PSP go into the wild, when the PSP version 10 is released, 20 years from now. - saftaplan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This would rock on a DS - I mean, I like the PSP too, but many Flash-based games are controlled by mouse and ideal to be controlled by a stylus too.
@okcookienc: you're talking like home-brew on DS is not possible.
Oh, and no, I haven't got a DS or PSP ;-) - TigerClaw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I wonder this can play flash movies?
- pentomino, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It also means they're actively discouraging hackers from buying PSP's at all anymore.
- hobbsy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Does anyone have a list of decent Flash games to try out on the PSP?
- skooma, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@oOjoshuaOo
actually, you don't need to upgrade from 1.5 to play new 2.0+ FW games.
maverick hunter x
gta lcs
practical intelligence quotient
all of those UMDs or .isos can now run on a 1.5 PSP without upgrading the FW - xLiKx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0yep, flash will probably be integrated in the next firmware anyways, i'll wait for that.
- dorkusmalorkus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0" i'll be playing my games for free. suckas."
This is what's wrong with kids these days. I used to have a PSP until I got pissed with the browser crashing and having to re-enable WMA over internet (also SonicStage corrupting my music). Now ebay has become my friend. - o0joshua0o, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0 FRAGaLOT: "o0joshua0o -You may want to freshen up on your homework too. Not all homebrew works on 2.x"
When did I say that all homebrew works on 2.x? Are you replying to the right person? I was lamenting the fact that every firmware revision since 1.5 has made it LESS friendly for homebrew.
skooma: " all of those UMDs or .isos can now run on a 1.5 PSP without upgrading the FW"
But does it require some kind of non-Sony-endorsed hack? If so, it still doesn't invalidate my point that Sony is actively discouraging people from buying PSP games. - o0joshua0o, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"actually, there are hacks that work for the 2.00+ firmware so you don't need the 1.5 only PSPs to play homebrew stuff. do your homework before you comment."
Are you replying to my comment(s)? That doesn't really invalidate anything I said about Sony actively discouraging people from buying a PSP or games for it. - xLiKx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Are you replying to my comment(s)? That doesn't really invalidate anything I said about Sony actively discouraging people from buying a PSP or games for it. "
just a general comment to the clueless posts about playing homebrew games on a 1.5 only PSP - SamboGT, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I want Flash support embedded in the browser, please. Homestarrunner.com would be awesome to watch on the 'ol PSP.
- o0joshua0o, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Let me see if I undestand this correctly:
*The best PSPs are the v1.5 ones
*The v1.5 PSPs are not in production anymore
*Playing newer games on a v1.5 PSP forces you to upgrade the firmware
*Upgrading firmware removes the best features of the PSP
Doesn't that mean that Sony is actively discouraging v1.5 users from buying new games?!? WTF? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0"$ony needs to put a stop to this. This is not authorized by $ony and probably is a violation of the DMCA. I recommend that you turn yourself in before they come to get you and they'll be easier on you."
You're an idiot. Hacking and modding is what freedom is all about. Get a life. - xLiKx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0if the xiaoxiao toons work on it, i'm good to go
- okcookienc, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0@all you DS Fanbois:
the reason to own a PSP is to play ISOs and to enjoy homebrew dev projects. theres no reason to go out and buy a new PSP... 1.5 is the way to go. I'm a proud PSP owner, and i've NEVER bought a game for it and probably never will. you DS boys have fun with Nintendogs... i'll be playing my games for free. suckas. - GarethSaxby, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0It supports up to Flash 7, apparantly, but it would be nice if someone confirmed this for everyone. The actual file is hosted http://files.psphacks.net/details.php?file=93 for anyone who wants to skip out the blog and try it out on their 1.5 firmware PSP from the off.
- FullMetalMonkey, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0I wish I owned a PSP!
I wpuld love watching episodes of Foamy the Squirrel on the PSP! - ownedbytheman, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0I don't own a PSP. What is the benefit here? The ability to play flash games or something?
- Elric77, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Not sure the point of this either, is this so you can whack penguins as a yeti on the road? The PSP is still WAY overpriced, even if it can do this.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Pretty cool.
http://www.presenternet.com - HappyScrappy, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0Death before Flash.
And I mean you, youtube. - rebrad, on 10/12/2007, -5/+0$ony needs to put a stop to this. This is not authorized by $ony and probably is a violation of the DMCA. I recommend that you turn yourself in before they come to get you and they'll be easier on you.
