- IgorUnchained, on 07/18/2009, -8/+45This is to WOW what Chess is to Checkers.
Truly a great game and Mod 9 should be out on the 8th of August.
Unfortunately, Im not able to play very often, but I guarantee I could play that game all day if my wife, child, job, and conscience would allow for it. I have had a subscription for over 2 years now and I am sure I will keep it going for a long time.
With a deal like this, I hope to see other people giving the game a shot. You wont be sorry.
/roll d20 - Nidy1, on 07/18/2009, -5/+39BILLY MAYS HERE WITH DUNGEONS & DRAGONS ONLINE!
- zeth006, on 07/18/2009, -2/+29Finally, someone with an opinion about the damn game.
- Velenne, on 07/18/2009, -7/+33You WoW players are so defensive...
- Khast, on 07/18/2009, -1/+25Why are you casting Magic Missile? There's nothing to attack here.
- Kaegro, on 07/18/2009, -1/+21I attack the Darkness!

- thejackyl, on 07/18/2009, -1/+12my condolences
- allenglines878, on 07/18/2009, -2/+11Replace "need to know" with "should consider knowing," and you have a geniune article.
- system5y, on 07/18/2009, -50/+58I DON'T NEED TO KNOW ***** ABOUT DUNGEONS & DRAGONS ONLINE
- isunktheship, on 07/19/2009, -1/+8MAGIC MISSILE!!~!
- SystemicThought, on 07/18/2009, -2/+9So I have to wait to play for free? You'd think that would have made the list...
- fiatjustitia, on 07/18/2009, -2/+8I don't know any d & d players who are virgins.
That, and most female d &d players are pretty god damned kinky... - jasmus, on 07/18/2009, -1/+7No one is asking you to swap WoW for this. This is free, you CAN play both.
- JigoroKano, on 07/19/2009, -0/+6Really? I thought DDO was horrible and I am an avid PnP guy.
It isn't immersive at all. It never had the content or any sense of massiveness (read: bandwidth) that justified a subscription. Finally they turn to a pay as you go (you pay for classes, races, and quests/zones) model to suck some last bit of money out of it.
The system was only _very__loosely_ based upon D&D 3.5th edition. The setting wasn't something rich in lore and familiarity like Forgotten Realms or even Dragonlance. And as far as I know they never even completed the base classes, let alone get to prestige classes, real epic levels, godhood, etc.
Maybe my days of PnP and NWN bias my judgment (too many expectations), but even if I try and forget that DDO was supposed to be a D&D game I still don't think it was very good. - IgorUnchained, on 07/19/2009, -0/+6The people I know who have played D&D before and who now play DDO say the same thing.
The reasoning behind the choice of Eberron was that it was a "naturally" magical place. Not only
do the people of Eberron have magical abilities, but the land itself does as well. From what I have heard,
Id probably prefer Forgotten Realms or something else as well. That said, the setting was just put in place
to allow for a lore-ish explanation of why people can teleport and do certain things.
While that may seem like a flimsy excuse, it does show that Turbine is dedicated to keeping canon....and that isnt a bad thing at all. - NoamChimpsky, on 07/19/2009, -2/+8Yeah, if xXx plays it, it must be cool right?
Jesus am I tired of hearing about Vin and D&D. The truth is that the D&D fanbase has such abysmally low self esteem that they welcome this talentless meathead as some sort of ambassador of cool.
He isn't.
He is a terrible actor with more muscles than talent. I'm more embarrassed by his association with D&D than the unwashed, bearded fat guys at conventions. (Well, the "unwashed" bit also need addressed, but that's another battle for another day.) - cran, on 07/18/2009, -2/+7How do you sign up and play?
- alais, on 07/19/2009, -1/+6dont know why they're burying you, I play this and still found it funny.
- frankdozier, on 08/10/2009, -1/+5I love DnD and I lost my virginity like 20 years ago. I have a 15 year old son and an 11 year old daughter; and a wife who acts like a whore in bed.
Thank you Dnd, for making me never give up.
And to you, BeefyAura, I say that you should go outside and play a game of hide and go ***** yourself. BURIED! - jccalhoun, on 07/19/2009, -0/+4I've been playing the beta for a month or so and it is not entirely true that the store doesn't "wreck" the game. No it isn't necessary to buy stuff from the store but there are a decent number of quests and areas that are only available by buying them and unless you consult the map for the icon indicating a pay-only map, there's no way to tell what is and isn't a pay-only map before you talk to the ncp. If the ncp isn't standing near the entry point for the quest then there isn't any way to tell. So you have these ncps standing around with the icon over their head indicating they have a quest for you and you are looking for a quest. You talk to them go run over to where the quest is, click to start the quests, choose your difficulty level and then it tells you that you need to buy it. The ncps for the for-pay quests need a different icon over their head or something to clearly indicate to you that they are for-pay. Otherwise it is just wasting player's time and frustrating them.
- Rudegar, on 07/18/2009, -1/+5maybe thats just me but Eberron is the worst world in D&D any world would be better
even spelljammer or darksun - B1665r, on 07/18/2009, -1/+5A fantasy setting that used L4D conventions would be really awesome. Random drops, character persistence lasted for the evening/game/death, big boss battle at the end. You can play for the luls if you want to. Enjoy co-op play in party you are thrust into. Mandatory voice chat. Stay with group or die.
I really hope to see a bunch more games with those design decisions. - flossdaily, on 07/18/2009, -8/+12Is this a sponsored link or are we actually supposed to believe that people find this interesting?/
- AgeofMastery, on 07/18/2009, -1/+5Planning on checking it out. I haven't played D&D in ages and I'm pretty curious what it's like now.

sure its not a true mmo..but it does have online and LAN options - shadesofsteve, on 07/18/2009, -2/+5What I would have LIKED to know. But, what they missed... The date of the switch. August 6th, for those that didn't scroll all the way to the bottom of the ddo.com page and look for the fairly small and plain font.
- SalmonGod, on 07/19/2009, -0/+3L4D is the best online experience I've ever had. I've randomly made more friends while playing that game than all the rest of my 13 years of online gaming experience put together. It just forces you to interact with a small group, and it works. I can't wait for the sequel to take the random element to a new level.
- IgorUnchained, on 07/18/2009, -1/+4http://content.turbine.com/pages/www.ddo.com/beta_ ...
Check this out...but you will still have to wait for launch (Aug 8th I think) to play. - frankdozier, on 08/10/2009, -0/+3I would have preferred Forgotten Realms. Those were some good times back then. . .
- SalmonGod, on 07/19/2009, -0/+3Ravenloft would be neat. Lots of things could be conveniently explained by 'the mists'
But then, an MMO would be way too likely to ***** up that awesome setting. - monkeystick, on 07/19/2009, -0/+3I'm having a blast in the beta. Turbine is doing some innovative stuff with their free to play model and buying from their integrated store is a quick, streamlined experience. Nothing in the store upsets the balance of the game beyond some 20% experience potions that last six hours. You can't buy better armor or weapons, all that stuff still drops in the game.
I think they're going to do pretty well for themselves when it launches next month. - chrismgtis, on 07/19/2009, -2/+5I only need to know one thing about D&D Online. It's a horrible game. That's all there is to know.
- crossmr, on 07/19/2009, -6/+91. It sucks
2. its boring
3. gygax is spinning in his grave
4. Atari needs to stay the ***** away from the D&D license
5. No one at hasboro has a clue anymore.
"its D&D"
no its not..D&D has never had a game world swarming with heroes repeating the same quests over and over.. - inactive, on 07/19/2009, -0/+3Still waiting for a Planescape MMO. Now that's something I could pay a monthly fee for.
- IgorUnchained, on 07/18/2009, -0/+3Age....Im not sure if you are talking about DDO (video) or D&D (tabletop).
Ive never played tabletop, so I cant speak to that very much.
I know it uses the "newer" rules mostly (3.5?) but not the newest rules.
The campaign is in Eberron, which is all a part of D&D lore with the proper races
and classes (for the most part).
If you havent played DDO for a while, a whole lot of things have changed...up to and including the way you create your character and the "training island" they installed a mod or two ago. You will notice huge changes right from the start...I would say out of all of them, the changes are AT LEAST 90% positive.
The downside is that they havent released a whole lot of content in the past 2 mods, but they look to make up for that (it would appear) with this new mod. - KyotoWolf, on 07/18/2009, -0/+3It's only free if your client is run by Turbine (US) otherwise you'll still have to pay the subscription fee (codemasters runs European region). They're supposed to balance out but we'll see how that turns out.
- alarion, on 07/19/2009, -1/+3No it's had a "meta world" with DMs and Heroes repeating the same quests and modules over and over and over and over.
But I know what you mean :) - SalmonGod, on 07/19/2009, -0/+2You don't know many WoW players, do you?
- n4tune8, on 07/20/2009, -0/+2Dugg for "Besides FR is over and done with.. let it die already". It's painful to admit but it's true.
- FaithclubDotNet, on 07/19/2009, -1/+3I got a level 10 in like a week of playing. It is an interesting concept: Action paced RPG. It feels like a video game instead of a MMORPG. I think most MMORPGS should use this as a model going forward. Seriously, using dice to see if you hit something is a good model if you can't simulate combat... Computers are great at simulating combat. So lets throw out our dice maybe? DDO doesn't throw out the dice though since its D&D of course. If you're new, pick a Cleric as they're almost the same as fighters but they also get spells.
- Sarr77, on 07/19/2009, -0/+2What???
Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson actually LOVED this game. They even DM (narrate...) with their own voices on some quest in DDO. And they have memorial places in game, now that they're gone.
Other than that, you're completely wrong too. This is the best MMO out there, and I played most of those major MMOs and a few niche ones as well. I'm a former WoW player too. I'd never come back to WoW. - Blydchyld, on 07/19/2009, -0/+2Ive been looking for this vid for ***** ages, thanks!!!!!
- LantisGaius, on 07/19/2009, -0/+2Does it use 4th Ed rules?
- DrFrizzy, on 07/19/2009, -0/+2Considering that my friends will *never* consider paying a monthly subscription for a game, and that I'll *never* play an MMO if it isn't with my friends -- DDO's new scheme is something I'm looking forward to.
