- Lkr721993, on 03/25/2008, -1/+50Will the Wii version have missing or crippled features similar to the PS2 experience?
Rock Band for the Wii will have functionality similar to the PS2 version.
meaning no band world tour? ***** that - doshindude, on 03/25/2008, -2/+43This version is not worth buying....it's too gimped.
- pharekyz, on 03/25/2008, -1/+25DLC that may or may not be coming in the future? Forget it. DLC is part of what makes Rock Band worth getting. Without DLC to rejuvenate the experience, those 63 songs will get boring fast.
- rhesusattack, on 03/25/2008, -2/+22"Rock Band for Wii audio will be in stereo with Dolby Pro Logic II support at launch."
Suck it, Activision. - AzureRise, on 03/25/2008, -5/+20That's cuz it's not the hardware *****.
- dudefather, on 03/25/2008, -1/+15I know what you mean, Team fortress 2? meh, me and my buddies go into an abandoned quarry and kill each other for real
- kingo123, on 03/25/2008, -1/+12What's wrong? If it was Black you know it would get no press coverage.
- SteelTallon, on 03/25/2008, -4/+13In other words, we are porting it over to the Wii, just like all the other crappy port overs...But you get an all white drum set....huh huh!!!.
- timisondigglol, on 03/25/2008, -0/+7You gotta admit... the question was loaded and that PR style reply was pretty disarming. I did a double take when I saw that.
- SteelTallon, on 03/25/2008, -0/+6BTW: I am not Wii bashing, as I have one myself. In fact I love the little fella. But I also have a 360 with Rock Band, and this port over sounds somewhat cheap for the Wii.
- Chubs879, on 03/25/2008, -1/+5The game industry is evolving in North America, and it's hurting Japanese based company's like Nintendo.
Yeah, it's short sighted, but then why so angry? It's not like they're being stubborn, just different. - inactive, on 03/25/2008, -3/+7Internal-Memory + SD-card = DLC (Wii Store could be used to distribute DLCs)
Weak specs != no customization, considering previous generations have had customization abilities with much, much worse specs.
And I'd guess that the Wii can easily buffer another song or two on top of the current one, considering it can hold gigantic maps for games like Zelda. - Cdog923, on 03/25/2008, -0/+4So wait, let me get this straight....you're blaming Nintendo for Third Parties nerfing games when making them for Wii? Last I checked, Twilight Princess, Galaxy, Prime 3 and Brawl were all AAA titles. The common denominator? They're all First Party titles. If developers such as Harmonix and Activision weren't lazy in the first place, they could put out quality titles that are on par, feature-wise, with their brethren on the 360 and PS3. The main thing that you can blame Nintendo for is for not having put out a Hard Drive by now. That ***** should've been out months ago.
- bigbadgoat, on 03/25/2008, -2/+5Because people keep buying the ***** console!
Nintendo has no reason to do anything other than mail it in the rest of the generation.
Whats the point? You people keep buying them as fast as they can make them, adding features isn't going to increase sales, so why bother?
If Nintendo keeps this ***** up, and completely ignoring their customers concerns with the wii, sales are going to absolutely bottom out. Flatline. Crash.
I'll be shocked if the wii is the highest selling console this generation if Nintendo keeps it up. After Mario Kart, what do wii owners have to look forward to? - gilzow, on 03/25/2008, -0/+3I get so tired of hearing/seeing people say this.... Look, I've played drums since I was 10 years old (36 now). I was in drumline, been in several bands, etc. Then I graduated college, got a full time job, got married, had kids, etc. There was no time left to be in a band. There want any room left in the house for a full size drum kit, so it had to go. Now, with Rock Band, I can "drum" again, but with my daughter and my wife, in a "fake" band. Is it as good as the real thing? Absolutely not. But its 15 minutes or so of spending time with my daughter and wife doing something that we all enjoy. And while it isnt as good as the real thing, it is EXTREMELY fun. Reminds me of the "old days", if you will. My daughter actually plays a real guitar (thank you Guitar Hero for convincing her to actually try it), so maybe, just maybe, when she gets really good, my wife will let me buy another drum kit and I can play REAL music with her.
So quit being elitist with the attitude that playing fake drums, and anyone who does is somehow beneath you. Will beating the game on expert make someone a real drummer? No, but it will require at least a bit of rhythm, and might inspire then to think about trying out real drums. And ANYTHING that gets kids interested in playing an instrument is good in my book. - deaftly, on 03/25/2008, -1/+4You paid $2200 for a new PC and you bitch about shelling out $400 for a PS3 or 360?
- Ranferi, on 03/25/2008, -2/+5Wouldn't it be possible to store DLC on an SD card due to the lack of HDD on the Wii?
- hipnerd, on 03/25/2008, -1/+4Whoa, whoa, whoa! Hold on there, Trigger. This isn't Nintendo's issue exactly. There is zero reason not to have online play at this point. I have multiple third party games that support it quite well, including Guitar Hero, Endless Ocean, etc.
Downloadable content should have been an easy gimmee as well. The launch of the game comes slightly after the launch of Nintendo's Wii Ware service. Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles has hooks to get extra content using the service. The internal storage on the Wii + SD card would be enough to store quite a few songs. Or you could stream content off a server as an alternate method of distribution.
The fact that these features aren't in the Wii Rock Band is more likely due to developer laziness, than Wii shortcomings. They ported the PS2 version and adding the missing features would have taken real work beyond sprucing up the textures and adding a few visual effects.
Don't blame the Wii for a crappy port job. For some reason the developers continue to put Wii versions as a fourth priority, after 360, PS3 and PS2 -- even though the system is outperforming all of them. Then they whine about how Nintendo is the only company that succeeds on the platform.
Maybe they need to stop bitching and start doing some serious game development on the Wii instead of porting over reheated PS2 crap. Try that for a change then get back to me. - quaunaut, on 03/25/2008, -0/+3Its not that simple, sadly. They have to get approval by all the record labels to release it in other territories, which with a new property isn't easy until a bit of a ways in.
That, and being all the music is in english, a widespread release in Europe(which usually precedes Australia) is a teency bit less likely. - smurfsahoy, on 03/25/2008, -3/+5http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/hardware
- DarKnight90, on 03/25/2008, -3/+5Not to mention that the white drums look like crap. The 360 is white but still got a black set of drums. What a joke.
- NeoTEKK, on 03/25/2008, -0/+2Cue "It's cuz I'm black isn't it?" line.
- TheKappa, on 03/30/2008, -0/+2Hm... Looking like I'll be getting a Playstation 3 to play this. The wii version just sounds too *****...
- NeoTEKK, on 03/25/2008, -0/+2Lol.
- GrouchoMarx42, on 03/27/2008, -1/+2Good lord, you people are spoiled. DLC or no DLC, I'm just glad that I can finally play Rock Band.
Kids these days... - Tishiablo, on 03/26/2008, -0/+1Yeah, but he can play more than one game, I guess was what he was implying..
- SteelTallon, on 03/25/2008, -2/+3Wii is cool as *****!! My arms hurt from trying to beat Tiger all day on TW 08!! Much more action, exercise than my 360 ever gave me!!
- justice7, on 03/26/2008, -0/+1i think it all depends on how you measure it
Kindof like a 4x4 truck vs a Ferarri ... they can both do things the other can't. - DavidGX, on 03/26/2008, -0/+1RB is a lot of fun, and the 360 is a great system so... what's the problem?
- badassninja, on 03/25/2008, -13/+14YES! Because i'm not dropping the money on a PS3. Nintendo is the home of "fun" games. High end games are played on my $2200 new PC. I'm not dropping more money for a system just to play one game, so I am glad they made a port.
- theycallmebubba, on 04/19/2008, -0/+1Gesh, talk about your overreactions! All I was saying is that, in a culture GROSSLY oversaturated with digital alternatives to nearly everything, it's [personal opinion alert] better to peel yourself away from a TV, get creative, and find some entertainment SANS the good ol' boob tube. I'm a gamer too, kids - but playing those digi-drums is musical murder in comparison with being free to hit what you want, WHEN you want to - and NOT being penalized for it, lol. Sorry if anyone's feelings got hurt.
- hobbitsareneat, on 03/25/2008, -3/+4Oh my God, a white drum kit!! Stop the presses....
- SteelTallon, on 03/27/2008, -0/+1I think it's pretty good. I have a lot o fun with it. The short game (pw,sw,lw) can be take a little guess work, but overall it's pretty good. The only thing it is missing (or I haven't found) is online play. That would be sweet! Hopefully '09 will take this into consideration.
- quaunaut, on 03/25/2008, -0/+1They've already ***** themselves over. Their console has only 245mb of hard drive space. You may be able to fit 20 songs on it total, if you never, ever played another game on the system.
- Jookly, on 03/26/2008, -0/+1I'm not sure how you quantify "4x as powerful" on two systems with completely different architectures.
- BurnTees, on 03/25/2008, -0/+1i've heard tiger woods golf is awesome on the wii...should i get it?
- VinnieDaMac, on 03/25/2008, -1/+2SO basically, Wii Rock Band is just a water down 360 version, but hey, the drums are white and the guitar/mic are wireless at least.
- TheBrettJay, on 03/25/2008, -0/+1Dug because I agree that Nintendo need a much better online infrastructure. Then again other developers have proven that that online with the Wii *can* work; Brawl being a prime example. The fact that Harmonix are simply porting it over from the Playstation 2 (without character customization and other features not at all related to online) screams 'lazy', so I would say that the main reason for no online play is at fault with Harmonix - Guitar Hero III did have online (If marred by the awkward friend code system). But downloadable content is another matter: Nintendo do need to get their arse into gear in that respect.
- wertlos, on 03/25/2008, -3/+4How about releasing Rock band on the ps3 and 360, to the rest of the world first? I live in europe, and I'm quite jealous of people who have access to this game without resorting to imports.
- StandardsDT, on 03/25/2008, -0/+1Number one the Wii is not a piece of *****. In fact it can handle it and they can implement these features very easily. I was talking to my professor about this today and what he thinks it might be is that Nintendo is trying to keep total control over what games can do what on their system. So if this happens to be the case then they are probably currently still testing the grounds for downloadable content.
Also if they were to use the SD Memory Card as the Storage Medium for the download content, they could make the RIAA happy by implementing DRM on the songs so they can't be played on another players console. Of course there would be an uproar but still you can't make everyone happy can ya?
So as I stated calling it a piece of ***** and saying it can't handle it is a false accusation. Give it some time and you'll see the online experience with the Wii will get increasingly better over time. - inactive, on 03/25/2008, -1/+1You technically could do the same of the PS3.....thats where DRM comes in though...
- o0SneakyDave0o, on 02/05/2009, -0/+0zomg white drums, yay
i guess it makes up for the fact that the drums are as responsive as s**t; i can't even play hard without getting random combo breaks, it's starting to piss me the f**k off - Shadow82v, on 03/25/2008, -1/+1...Your buying a 360 just to play RB? Wow.
- scottsolo, on 03/25/2008, -1/+1The Bad: No online mode, can't download new songs, no character creation, no mii support, can't use guitar hero 3 controllers.
The Good: Drums are all white.
I'm pissed. -
