- boardo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I agree with some of you when it comes to the media size. Most likely in a few years, a lot of PS3 games will be perhaps closer to 15 GB in size, which could hurt XBOX 360 when it comes to RPG's. But it is all speculation, they will both be awesome consoles so either way I don't think you can go wrong.
- cjsan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I don't get what people have against Microsoft. You make it sound like Bill Gates skins puppies alive or something. Every large corporation, including Sony and Nintendo, do unethical things.
- archer75, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1From what I understand Blue Ray can only hold around 50gb or so. Not 200. And most current console games don't even fill a single DVD yet. Most are under 4gb in size. So still DVD's still have some life left in them.
You will also be able to connect it to a DVI or HDMI input if you so wish. With the necessary adapter.
Keep in mind the PS3 charges a $499 premium for thier system that gives you this. It's nice that the 360 is $299/$399 and does'nt charge you extra for a feature you may not need but can always add on later. - FaNtAsMa, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2""we have every output" yeah except in 1080p, no HDMI or DVI out either. It was bad enough it only supported HD-DVD and not the much higher capacity Blu-Ray. But now no HD-DVD? Hmm only 8 gigs a disk Guess halo 3 will come on 5+ Disks. PS3 will support Blu-Ray which can hold up to 200gigs per disk."
I just love it when people talk straight out of their asses. Where did you get this info? 200gb per disc? Are you insane? Take a look at Blu-Ray.com.. Taken straight from their site: "A single-layer Blu-ray Disc can hold 25GB, which can be used to record over 2 hours of HDTV or more than 13 hours of standard-definition TV. There are also dual-layer versions of the discs that can hold 50GB." Taken from http://www.pcworld.com/news/article/0,aid,120802,00.asp : "Toshiba has developed a prototype HD DVD disc that increases the format's storage capacity by 50 percent and brings it much closer to that of the rival Blu-ray Disc, the company said Tuesday. The new disc has a capacity of 45GB, which is just under the 50GB offered by a dual-layer Blu-ray Disc."
So please, next time you go throwing out numbers, do some ***** research. - FRAGaLOT, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This video didn't tell me anything NEW that I didn't already know about the Xbox 360.
- acemilo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0FYI, iomega developed a way to get 850 gigs on a standard dual layer dvd, so there is PLENTY of life left in dvds. The ONLY reason ps3 uses blur-ray is because SONY invented it and wants to get it into as many homes as fast as possible so they win the format war. They did the same thing with the psp and memory stick duos.
As far as 1080i/p, let me say this. Its already been announced by sony that very few games will support 1080 and most hd games will be 720p. Seeing as most ppl don't even own an hd tv, let alone one that supports 1080, I don't think this is an issue. Also, who cares there is no dvi/hdmi plug? I'm sure someone will make an adapter, it still comes out of there digital so it can be done.
Also, whoever said ps3 will be no more than 399, keep dreaming, expect it to be 499 and games will be 69 each.
I am not an MS fanboy, I like ms for some things, hate them for others (specifically their view on oss), but the xbox360 is going to be amazing, and I simply cannot see paying more than 400 bucks on the base console, sont really dropped the ball on this. - Ratteler, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Can't be hacked? Throw it back.
Buried. - mindsinker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0my xbox weenie is going krazy!
- aprocter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0this guy clicks too much
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0bluRay will be full of DRM, PS3 will suck ass.
- rousehouse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Can't wait to get one! I wish some of my old Xbox accessories worked with it though.
- suMMx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0wow the ps3 fanboys are in full force, its disturbing.
- xodex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Such a beautiful console
- BugMeNot2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Try not to judge a console before it is released and especially don't judge it if you know little or not all the information about the console has been given out.
It makes you look like an idiot. - DrPiranha, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0My god, it's beautiful!
- KNon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I don't really think it's good to compare these consoles anymore. They're too different. PS3- for the millionaire gamer. 360- for the impatient and online gamer. Revolution- I don't want to say...
Back on topic. No new knowledge from the video, but cool to see a runthrough in video instead of text and pictures. - yourwar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Awsome stuff! I know I'm getting mine first night it comes out!
- Joe_rigby, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@cotp_dom
The hard drive included will be a 2.5 laptop hard drive, not a regular 3.5, and in that way it is better suited to take more abuse.
Though smacking it probably isn't the best idea. - GamerSmurf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Indeed
- limpfalife, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This give so much more info about the hardware then ever before.
- bigbird, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hmm the xbox 360 would look good with mac osx running on it. Heres hoping another bunnie will crack it, and not the bunny on that wierd xbox 360 site.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0People complain about Blu-Ray and HD-DVD.. how big was Zonk? How many DVDs was Starcraft?
Graphics are only a way to get the story across. That's the important part.
People keep forgetting that. - Adamesq, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0PROBLEMS:
1) It looks like you may have to configure the joysticks every time you turn on the console. Perhaps the info is retained somehow, but it doesn't look like it. If this is the case, BAD move. Great, the power button is on the remote. Even if you've left your disk in, you still have to go up to the unit to configure your joystick.
2) What happened to the cool casing? Anyone with some toys from the 70s or 80s can tell you that white plastic yellows over time. Yeah, I know - who will keep the console that long. Well, I'm having trouble parting with my original 2600 - even if I make it a tissue box, it's still a kool piece to have around.
3) The right stick looks like it might interfere with using the buttons. For example, if you are using the right stick to look around and need to fire simultaneously.
4) How many people besides me thought "oh, that's cool - headphones plug into the control" then went on to thing "why aren't they bluetooth?" - trunkster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Sure keep the insides a secret, too bad everyone who wants to see them has already.
- Dan005, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I cant wait for this thing. It's just amazing. Sony can go **** them selves on PS3. I am 100% Sony fanboy but they are shooting themselves in the foot with PS3. Microsoft, sadly, is the new king of gaming, and I am excited.
- KNon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yeah, 200 gigs would be about a $100 hard drive. You can't sell 200 gigabite discs for the cost.
- murdoc43, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1"we have every output" yeah except in 1080p, no HDMI or DVI out either. It was bad enough it only supported HD-DVD and not the much higher capacity Blu-Ray. But now no HD-DVD? Hmm only 8 gigs a disk Guess halo 3 will come on 5+ Disks. PS3 will support Blu-Ray which can hold up to 200gigs per disk.
ok no one is even broadcasting in 1080p let alone using it in a counsel for video games. no hd-dvd so again no need for 1080p for dvd playback, let alone 1080i. not to mention a lot of the big screen hd tv's arn't even 1080p compatible. i think sony just released one this month that has 1080p. but who cares cuz it's too bleeding edge and no one is using it yet. perhaps on the 3rd gen xbox it will be common enough to use that format.
also, i'm sure later you can buy a dvi cable or hdmi cable to replace the component or composite. that's where they make some $. markup on any a/v cable is %600. so in theory they do have "every output".
I do agree that the 360 should have come with a hd-dvd but that would make the xbox even more expensive not to mention the format isn't even out yet.
i don't mean to pick on you but there was no logic or common sense in your discrepancies of the 360. yes it sucks it dosn't have a few things but thats the cost of keeping it AFFORDABLE. if it had everything that everyone wanted it would be too expensive and would still go out-dated in 2-3 years.
i just hope we can go buy a bigger drive and toss it in there. - archer75, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Even sony is on record saying that the PS3 will be "expensive". It is speculated that it will be $499. A Sony game developer has stated that games for the PS3 will be $70-$79 each. It is known that the PS3 will be difficult to program for(as stated by many developers and it is also obvious due to the hardware, I can explain more if you wish) this will increase development time and cost thus driving up the cost of the games.
The VGA port on the xbox gives you full DVD. You will notice that most projectors have a VGA port on them. This is a port that lets you use any connection with the appropriate adapter. So instead of having to put on every connection under the sun when you only need one they just give you a single one and you get the adapter you need. It's a good thing, trust me. My own projector has a VGA port. - Griffology, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Great video, thanks!
- Amplix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0erkokite, That's kinda like saying you wont buy a car because the guy selling it to you is gay. The point: if you think the hardware is good.. Buy it, if not, then dont. End of transaction.
I will be picking up both the 360 and the PS3. Woohoo - KNon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0They do sell plug and play kits for 11 bucks I think. I'd rather just have a corded controler if its 9 feet like the current one.
- rjespo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I didn't know that xboxes were having relations with other xboxes of the same sex. That's amazing! Vincenzo, you have really made a valuable contribution to this thread with that breakthrough.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Are you ***** kidding me!!! Because they are large then can do unethical things? Because others do it they can too? Do you work form them? I think we should expect more from business."
Because you are small you can do unethical things? Because others do it you can too? I think we should expect more from individuals. - h4lofourt33n, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I've been persuaded! WooHoo! XbOx360 here I come.
- cadpo76, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0One major point that I'm surprised no one has brought up yet is Mircosoft's plans to update the 360 hardware with a HD-DVD drive (too lazy to find the link). Most of the early games for the PS1 didn't fill up an entire 650 MB (most notable exception: Final Fantasy VII) as the devs had to adjust their programming from the relatively miniscule cartridges to the vast CD-ROM. The same jump occured from PS1 to PS2 (650 MB to 4.5 GB to 9 GB) and now the PS2/XBox to the PS3/360 (9 GB to ~50 GB). Most game devs won't fill the vacuum immediatel, but, rest assured, MS will have a riot on its hand for the first multi-DVD game to come out.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Sony, creator of such CD/DVD copyright protector as Securom will put ***** load of DRM into bluray. Sony doesn't want to support an open DVD format because they want to use their own DRM software. ALL PS3 fan boys will choke on their own **** when they see the DRM in bluray.
- cceverett, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I am certainly on the XBox 360 Bandwagon. The console looks great.
- dtatom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"I don't get what people have against Microsoft. You make it sound like Bill Gates skins puppies alive or something. Every large corporation, including Sony and Nintendo, do unethical things" - cjsan
Are you ***** kidding me!!! Because they are large then can do unethical things? Because others do it they can too? Do you work form them? I think we should expect more from business.
With that being said, Microsoft generally sucks. Most of the reason they suck is all the backwards compatibility they have to support in their flagship OS. Their embedded OS isn't half bad. Since Xbox is build off that and not 95/98/NT/XP/etc... this is quite possibly the best console ever! - lerch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Xbox360 will be awsome. Im trying to win one, but if I dont Ill buy one the first day its out
- reaver, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0""we have every output" yeah except in 1080p, no HDMI or DVI out either. It was bad enough it only supported HD-DVD and not the much higher capacity Blu-Ray. Yeah, because you're going to need more than 8 gigs? Most games now use 3-5 gigs. Blu Ray is just Sony trying to force their new format down everyone's throats. It's a waste and will just drive the price of the PS3 up.
Getting my 360 on launch. Awesome video, explained a lot. - overated209, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0oh yeah im getting one
- Adamesq, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Archer - you may recall that the PS2 was said to be notoriously difficult to program for. It was harshly criticized for no anti-aliasing as well. Game prices weren't jacked up over other console game prices for it. BTW - which projector do you have and is it worth it for the games alone? I've been looking at the Optoma H27.
I don't think consumers are ready to pay $70+ for a game - particularly if that game is available on PC or is cheaper for another console. The price points for these new consoles are ridiculous. I'm sure they will sell, but not to me...not until the first price drop anyway. You could almost buy a NEW projector for the price of the consoles. I'll stick with my DC, gamecube, 64 - or pong over dumping that kind of cash into a game machine. Obviously the companies are looking at their demand/supply from the last go-round. I predict that at this "P", "Q" is to the right of the demand curve. Being first is getting too costly. - subvertman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0cant wait to get it on the launch day. oh, i feel sorry for ps3 fanboys because sony has provide a boomerang as the controller.
- Lynxpro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I like it. I still think the PS3 will demolish the console but its a solid hardware design.
I'm still interested in seeing how the PSP and the iPod connect up to the Xbox360. It seems like the Xbox division is being very pragmatic for a Microsoft entity just as the Macintosh Business Unit operates. It would be pretty sweet to see Apple port iTunes to the console (if Microsoft permitted it) because I have a feeling Sony will still not get a clue before the PS3 release and instead of supporting iTunes out of the box it will support Sony's unpopular Connect online store and software. - cjsan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Relax fanboy, I was simply saying that companies do things that aren't right.
- RiotActing, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I so cannot wait until November... once I sell my Jeep this month Im buying a bundle of some sort!
- Greg-J, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I was genuinly interested in this console, but after seeing all the videos Xbox made available I have lost all interest. The only way I will buy one is if Gears of War isn't released on PC at all. In that case I will buy one, play Gears of War and return the xbox within the 30-day MBG and sell Gears of War online.
- murdoc43, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0from what i know hdmi and dvi are of the same quality. the only diff is hdmi has built in audio (kinda like coax) how is hdmi digital? just asking.
- murdoc43, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Sony will announce next month that it has developed an 8-layer version of the Blu-ray disc that is capable of storing 200GB of data, according to a company spokesman.
The announcement will be made at the International Symposium on Optical Memory 2004, South Korea, according to Sony. The company further plans to commercialize a 4-layer 100GB version in 2007, said Sony spokesman Taro Takamine.
"The advantage of Blu-ray over DVD is definitely capacity and we are extending our multilayer performance. The 8-layer is a technology demonstration. We haven't decided when we are going to commercialize it yet," Takamine said.
Yoda said. "PS3 will support Blu-Ray which can hold up to 200gigs per disk". no it can't. nice research.
