- Pthalio, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17I'm a chick and I love gears of war. Generally, I'm not super into shooters but I play a wide variety of games and something about Gears is just amazing. I will admit the color scheme is a little dull but the graphics are impressive and I don't think the game is ugly.
- Kinsbane, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17Don't care how good Gears is (I love it), but if there's two half-naked chicks running around in my place, I put the game down.
- admirabumblebee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Yeah.. my wife plays gears with my splitscreen everynight just about and she enjoys it quite a bit. Given 2 of my friends online who I play with regularly both have girlfriends who splitscreen as well...
Ive noticed significantly more women playing gears than any other xbox live game outside of the above as well...
(and the wii sits unloved waiting for something decent to come out) - petrieslastword, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Oh and please elaborate for us oh wise one.
- ODSTKuk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9The comment about New years with half naked girls around, but the guys were busy playing Gears of War. Well no wonder the guys were playing GoW, because the girls weren't completely naked.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Hey, Geometry Wars freakin pwns, you leave XBLA alone.
- admirabumblebee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8You know there are display settings... lucid and vibrant both changes the color spectrum greatly.
- petrieslastword, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8It does amaze me how little love my Wii has received since Wii Sports wore off...at least my DS sees use.
- jer2eydevil88, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6My girlfriend loves Halo 2 but hates Gears of War because of the third person views and the dark colors they used. I understand her views but still... running around and chainsawing people in half is fun.
- Xspire, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I liked the statement about how war is "dark, grey, and gritty." It shows that video games are a new form of art. Shadow of the Collosus brought up the topic, and Gears helps to affirm it.
- Coffeedemon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I couldn't get the girlfriend to play Gears but she did say it looked great and was fun to watch. She's not so good at the movement in these style games since she's spent mininal time away from her N64 and control has changed since. I'm trying to rectify that by getting her into Oblivion where the action doesn't require faster reactions constantly. Currently she's 6 hours in ... next it will be Crackdown if I can get her interested.
- evilbeatfarmer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4My girlfriend plays GoW with me sometimes. She claims she doesn't like it, but whenever we start playing she never wants to quit. She says it's 'pretty' hahaha She is a gamer though, usually just not FPS style games.
- petrieslastword, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Videogames are an art for and deserve to be treated as such. that's a fight I won't ever let up on.
- petrieslastword, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Thank you for being intelligent enough to acknowledge that your girlfriend's being a gamer makes a difference here.
- ApeInago, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3My gf has more hours in oblivion than I do, a level 30 dungeon crawler. I sold my computer to get her a ring, and she complained so much that i bought (with the extra money) a graphics card for her computer so she could keep playing. My laptop can't play oblivion, but it is a tablet anyway.
The sims = gateway game. - jjk5, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3In the game's settings you can change the color to vibrant or something like that. It's a subtle change, but I like it much better.
(edit: should have refreshed before posting...) - vaf151, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3My girlfriend and I are about half way through Insane on campaign in GoW, she likes it and a good bit of other 360 games. She's farther then I am on both Oblivion and Rainbow Six Vegas. I don't mind, just gives me an excuse to play even more.
- Bartboy919, on 10/12/2007, -5/+8not realy, the title should say will it blend rather than do they mix. :P
- Kinsbane, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3coffeedemon:
She'll need tons more practice if she wants to run the rooftops in Shai-gen territory while dodging heat-seeking rockets from bad guys 4 roofs over. - Kuipo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2They started as art... they will always be art. I don't know who is disagreeing with you...
- petrieslastword, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Nowhere does anyone say we should embrace only mini-games. Did you even read the damn article? It goes into Gears specifically, and how it appeals to a more broad market. (read: not people who read Digg)
- Kuipo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This article explains why it's best to just get a girlfriend that is a gamer. I'm the one that doesn't like FPS's anymore. My girlfriend loves the Halo series, but I'm pretty much done with FPS's. She got me back into WoW tho, so we're both good now.
- dnite, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2http://www.duggmirror.com
? - Coffeedemon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3No I didn't because I was referring to the comment which, if not referencing that exact article is pointing to this so called consensus reached over the last week (IE: two or three nobody blogs have written articles) that the entire gaming community is ready to embrace nothing but so called "casual" games ... the garbage that passes for most Nintendo products nowadays and the crap that MS has been piling up on XBLA.
- petrieslastword, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Most of the world would disagree with him. The general population does not consider a videogame to be art like they do music or film
- Coffeedemon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yeah tell me about it ... I just hit the Shai Gen myself and its kept me on my toes to say the least. I was thinking more along the lines of starting over on a co-op campaign. If not that theres always Burnout and Tony Hawk which she likes too.
- Coffeedemon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Oh I know the effort required to get ANY of the achievements in GW... I'd hesitate to say its all that casual a game.
- petrieslastword, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2There is a huge difference between thinking something isn't graphically sound, and thinking the color palette leaves something to be desired.
- petrieslastword, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2And so your girlfriend shows she can't read, as the girl was critiquing the choice of color palette which though gritty, is not pleasing to the eye in the same way a Crackdown or Halo is. Way to be literate though!
- LinkOmega, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I played coop for a few hours the other day with my girlfriend....guess they mix just fine.
- elViesca, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I got my ass kicked by a couple of girls in GoW the other day... and I'm no N00b.
But I just can't picture girls that think that is *cute* to chainsaw people. - Darknesspwns, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4this story pwns
- petrieslastword, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Dugg because well, you are correct. I didn't submit it though. ;P
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2A bunch of girls are coming over to my house saturday to play Gears of War haha, they watched me play it and wanted to try. They probably are jus tpretending to be interested though.
- chadlewis76, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I guess I should clarify. She was making fun of the girl in the article. The "um its not like pretty and stuff" was her pretending to be that girl, and the "she's dumb" was her comment.
- petrieslastword, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1The whole point is my girlfriend isn't a gamer. That's the perspective being given. I love when people can't read.
- mithrilwind, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0My gamer girlfriend thinks your gamer girlfriend is a newb and should STFU. =)
- tpv2066, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1What a terrible website, the font is red and underlined when i mouse in the window, and black and regular when i mouse off the window.
- crilen007, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Ribshots.
- liquilife, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1@petrieslastword - Your comment being buried only further emphasizes your point. I for one agree with you.
- Copyrighted, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2I second that.
- Coffeedemon, on 10/12/2007, -6/+4If you think the whole gaming world is going to embrace a bunch of minigames and ignore more in depth product because you lack the attention span or can't make the time to play you are nuts.
- chadlewis76, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1I just sent this link to my girlfriend, who's right there with me (my "Dom" if you will o_0) in every co-op game I play, including this one. Her response:
Steph: "um its not like pretty and stuff"
she's dumb - tpv2066, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Tom Dickson is my homeboy
- orlyfactor, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2Worst article...ever.
- BabyWookie, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1Pics or it didn't happen!
- d3k4y, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0I hate it when ur gf has a problem with one game, especially when it happens to be your fav. Interesting article though. He needs to just start lying and say he's sick when he wants to get in a good round. I haven't got in a good round of anything since i moved in with my n00b ass gf.
- petrieslastword, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2Then you obviously don't have naked girls around you often. If I was to put down what I'm doing everytime my girlfriend was naked, I'd never get anything done. Just because that would be a rarity for you doesn't mean it isn't par for the course for some of us.
- ikrit2006, on 10/12/2007, -8/+3Who cares if it will mix, the real question is "will it blend?"
*prepares to get dugg down* - admirabumblebee, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2or moonwalking :D
