- dralezero, on 10/12/2007, -2/+26"What is this?"
"New remote control"
"Nintendo Wii remote control"
(from youtube comments) - Zippo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+21To be fair, it's a Japanese commercial. The Japanese take the rulebook on advertising and throw it out the window. I'm surprised it was as simple as it was.
- makenai, on 10/12/2007, -2/+20Transcript / Translation:
Kore ha nan deshou? Atarashii Rimokon. Nintendo Wii Rimokon.
What is this? A new remote control. A nintendo Wii remote control.
So.. er.. yeah. - rcomegys, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11We're getting it in Japan on December 2nd... I still don't understand why America gets it first.
- sakuraz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12Translation
"What would this be?"
"The new remocon(remote control)"
"Nintendo Wii remocon(remote control)"
...That sucks - rcomegys, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9again, the Japanese student base on Digg doesn't fail to disappoint
- brewno2k, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Did you notice how the first sound is just like Intel's sound logo?
- lukeo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Wow. Maybe I haven't been looking at enough reviews and stuff... but the control is SMALL! I thought it would be like... the length of a remote control, but it is quite small. It looks good...
- pouwerkerk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4That was completely unsatisfying. Wii seems pretty cool and it was poorly demonstrated in this ad.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It's a transcription... that means there isn't a technically correct way of spelling it. Basically, when you write "Japanese" with the english alphabet, you're spelling out how it sounds. This is why when you translate a lot of middle-eastern stuff you can get a lot of different spellings of the same word (ie. muhamed, mohamed, muhammed, mohamad, muhamad, etc. etc.)
- Ryokurin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Its a teaser ad, and typically commercials in Japan are 15 seconds. I wouldn't expect a longer one until closer to launch.
- Solafa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Someone trying to make ads like apple?
- zointax, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5"US- 19th November
Japan- 2nd December
Australia- 7th December
Europe- 8th December"
The 19th November release date is not just for the U.S, it's more of a North American release. Don't forget about Canada, eh?
*edit* Bah.. darn reply didn't work right (this reply is directed at skywake - smiley2billion, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Honestly, Japan has had a history of seeing consoles released months before they're available anywhere else. I think a two week window for North America will be ok.
- Kakkun, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I live in Japan. Today on the way home from school, I saw this on the train. The train had subtitles instead of audio but it was the same thing. Personally, I think its boring.
- rcomegys, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5eplawless, "doesn't fail to disappoint" is a double negative of sorts, in that I'm saying the japanese student base disappoints me once again.
You see, students of the Japanese tend to be some of the most nit-picky SOBs on the planet. I should know, I spent 4 years as a student, consistently having my Japanese "corrected" by my fellow students. I have even seen those same students correct the TEACHER... they truly know no shame. - raptordrew, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Nintendo - "Wii suck at advertising!"
- sulthernao, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's because america has a thing called thanksgiving holiday, and after that people shop like crazy.
- MooseMangle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Have a look at this other one I found on youtube. It's alot longer and shows more uses for the Wii remote.
http://digg.com/gaming_news/5_Minute_long_Nintendo_Wii_ad - compacho, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1At least give Gonintendo some credit since u used their description.
- Burv, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Dong Ding Dong Ding!
- fiver22, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I did.
- greywolf330, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Is that it? Nothing else?
- raptordrew, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Nintendo marketing has progressively gotten worse since the 64 - back then, they tried to tease people by telling them the Crusin' USA arcade games had a 64 inside - anyone remember the kids who got arrested for tearing some of those open?
- neko, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2It's Digg. Digg is on the interwebs. The interwebs are like that.
- thediggguy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Way to go Nintendo! Reminds me of the first Super Mario Bros commercial !! Wow I thought its was out of this world
- badlymade, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0bayliss is right on the money
this is totally the beginning of the intel jingle
why would you do that?
why didn't anyone internally spot it? - MrDizzystick, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Also there is no "Wi" character in japanese. The closest is combining the two vowels, "u" and "i". This spelling had also been used on the official Nintendo website, I believe.
- bayliss, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4Did anyone else automatically expect to hear the rest of the intel jingle when the add started?
- skywake, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Wii releace dates....
US- 19th November
Japan- 2nd December
Australia- 7th December
Europe- 8th December
i dont think its anything against you (why the hell would it be)...
more that there are more releace dates then the US one... - se1zure, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1is this for real? Why would they even air this!? I'ts HORRIBLE!
- spragg, on 10/12/2007, -8/+5Any possibility of someone translating?
- bluemist, on 10/12/2007, -9/+6I just saw this a couple of hours ago here in Japan. It has the same style as the DS commercials, so you bet that the mainstream Japanese are slowly becoming aware of this...
- puzzud, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2"What is this?"
"Stick it up your butt"
"Stick it up Nintendo Wii's butt"
What went wrong with my translation??? Anyhow, I can't wait for a Wii. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2I dugg you down because your question could have been answered by typing "Wii release date" in Google.
- eplawless, on 10/12/2007, -9/+2what the hell are you talking about we can't even agree on how to spell "wii" I'd say that's pretty ***** disappointing right there
- skywake, on 10/12/2007, -11/+4from the comments...
(i normally wouldnt trust them but it seems about right)
nevermind.... beaten to it....
twice... - philomatic, on 02/08/2009, -14/+7First the name... now this. They just need to fire their whole marketing department.
- kolop1, on 10/12/2007, -10/+2Why not show how great the graphics are? Oh wait.....
- swook, on 10/12/2007, -11/+3So..December 2nd?
- eplawless, on 10/12/2007, -11/+3turansuration ror
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -14/+5cause America's better
- kolywater, on 10/12/2007, -11/+2what is this?
a new remote control.
a nintendo wii remote control. - swook, on 10/12/2007, -12/+4OK. I admit that I'm at a loss at how the whole Digg system works.
I see that there is reason to believe that according to the ad in the post that the release date may be December 2nd.
I ask if this may be the case.
Then a single person diggs me down.
Why?
Does someone dislike me? Does someone dislike responses to video posts? Does someone disagree with the idea that "12-2" may mean something other than December 2nd? Does someone so hate Nintendo that they digg down all in this thread? Perhaps someone so hates the Japanese so much they digg down everything Nintendo-related.
I don't know.
Please fill me in. - eplawless, on 10/12/2007, -12/+2not that it really matters, but isn't it ヰイ; Wii?
- MrDizzystick, on 10/12/2007, -11/+0Technically it's "Nintendo Uii Rimokon", but everything else is good.:)
- eplawless, on 10/12/2007, -12/+1the release date is clearly february 12th
r-tard - glafira, on 10/12/2007, -22/+3Not a bad commercial,simple and with a scary voice.

What is Digg?
