- LarsG, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3When did every single type of malware become a 'virus'? This is a trojan.
- geartype2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1to be quite honest the real updater can brick your psp under certain circumstances.
- lcp03o, on 10/18/2008, -0/+1you can install an anti-virus program on your PSP, wonder if this would of helped ? http://www.free-psp-demos.com
- pon4v, on 10/07/2008, -0/+1PSP3000 is coming. I hope there no more virus on it.
http://www.cheappspconsole.com - Lionhart, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"I have no idea, but what on earth do people gain be getting into other peoples PSPs? They wanna steal my save games dont they?"
It's not a trojan, it just bricks your psp effectively turning it into a big piece of useless hardware, because sony wont fix it because you violated your warranty. - EmmEff, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The work of Sony? :)
- CayoMan, on 02/19/2009, -0/+1Furthermore, DS games are for toddlers and very very stupid…
- Bastian227, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1So all PSP users run as admin, so to speak?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1what is this, who diggs this? have peopel not realized that lots of fake updaters bricked psp's?
- AETAaAS, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I have no idea, but what on earth do people gain be getting into other peoples PSPs? They wanna steal my save games dont they?
- tanghorse, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1And this link leads to a site that hits the viewer with a popup before the story is even visible.
- Kirin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0All handhelds are stupid overexpensive toys that will be obsolete in a few years. Two for the PSP is silly to say, but just like the Playstation, the Xbox, your pc, the DS and any Gameboy, yes, it will be obsolete. Nice observation there :P
- persecuted, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0sounds like bs just because of the wording
- hybrid8, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0yea and would only work on 1.0 b/c 1.5 and 2.0 would need the exploit which YOU have to do and hows does it delete them? it cant open up a terminal....
- willgonz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Actually it is a Trojan. You think it is one program but it turns out to do something bad.
- TubaFrog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Now how am I supposed to play GameBoy games?!
- cfdisk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Good thing I only have a DS. No virus here!
- aresef, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is why I don't bother with the hacks.
- 9mm_graphix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0
Another example as to why the PSP is a waste of money? What kinda ***** stupid logic is that, 9mm? What are the other examples, eh? The PSP has BEEN hacked long before this you moron. Ever since they first came out people have been "hacking" homebrew into the PSP. And this isn't a hack, nor a virus, it's a trojan.
Hug all your Nintendo DSs all you want. You're limited to just playing games and IMing people near you. Gee I can already do that with my cell phone.
Very good logic actually.....if you keep putting homebrew stuff on your PSP, you are going to get bad stuff on it eventually, common sense.
Besides, the PSP is just another $300 gadget that will be extinct in 2 years for some other $300 gadget that nobody really needs to begin with. It's a cycle that for some reason, people are stupid enough to get caught in. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0how is this a virus? how does it spread? just because it does malicious things doesn't automatically put it under the virus category. i think it's just a worm that some l33t d00d wanted to impress someone with.
- NeoTechni, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Last I checked, Virus's needed the ability to spread by themselves. Does this program send itself out via wifi?
- jonnrb, on 06/24/2008, -0/+0The DS is a horrible system. The graphics are bad, the touch screen is almost completely unresponsive (at least on mine), and it is a pain using two screens. I would know. I have 3 PSPs and a DS. The PSP completely without a question owns the DS.
And, the only reason the PSP can get viruses is because people have hacked it open allowing it to be completely modded from the base up making it better. Please don't speak out of ignorance.
JonNRb - Klisk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0
So by that logic you shouldn't even be using your computer. Brilliant! Mayb e this will weed out some of the dumbasses on the net.
A computer can be infected with tons of trojans, and it can be fixed, just so long no one took a sledge hammer to it.
A PSP, on the other hand, cannot be fixed by a simple hard-drive reformatting.
That is the difference. And that's the logic behind it. - dsforsaken, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is the exact reason why sony is agains this kind of crap, because people will screw up their psps and get hacked and then theres even more tech support calls from people who dont even know that the triangle is...
- PacoBell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@klisk: What if your BIOS got corrupted/fried?
- cappachino22, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Can't wait to see the Symantec Anti-Virus PSP edition 2006 !:)
- zbeast, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0You hack your p2p so you can do something with it. Play Home brew or Nintendo games. Not buy proprietary DVDs for it and not buy Over Priced "memory sticks" for it.
It's a real shame that some ass decided to write a virus for the psp that's just stupid.
I was expecting more from the PSP not long load time, Bad Battery life, Poor and lacking game titles. kind of a waste of $300.00 dollars. - tj48446, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I guess Sony is not as good as we all thought they were.
- Elranzer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"I'm just waiting for the day when I download just one wrong thing and I have a $250 paperweight sitting on my desk"
The PSP already was a $250 paperweight. - jonnrb, on 06/24/2008, -0/+0You do have a point. But the PSP is a revolutionary system; like it or not. The PSP even has a better processor than the iPhone, which labels itself as a full-blown computer. (The PSP has a dual-core 333mHz MIPS CPU, while the iPhone has a 620mHz ARM CPU.) Actually, the iPhone brags about its 'superior graphics' which is an 'embedded' graphics GPU 'built' into the processor. And not to mention, the PSP has a much better screen than the iPhone (apart from the missing touchscreen).
Not to label the iPhone as a bad system, but the PSP is at least twice as powerful (apart from the 32MB of RAM) than the iPhone and it came out nearly two years after the PSP.
The PSP was and still it one of the most powerful systems out there. Don't disgrace it.
JonNRb - mak0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0wow, there IS already an antivirus program for psp:
http://www.digg.com/gaming/PSafeP:_A_Virus_Scanner_For_PSP - jonnrb, on 06/24/2008, -0/+0You are right. It would technically be a Trojan. But normally Trojans operate as a normal program until the nutcase user tries to run the application as an administrative user. Giving the program access to the entire system, it steals your data and attacks the computer. Unfortunately, the PSP was never built for homebrew(even though it is great). It has no thread limitations, allowing all programs equal rights to the system. One program I know (PSP uCLinux) actually shuts down the kernel so that Linux can successfully run. I (personally) wouldn't be surprised if Dark_Alex adds a management component to the PSP kernel. Effectively removing all PSP viruses (or Trojans in this case) from harms way.
- gamerzworld, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Update to 2.01 NOW YOUR SAFE!!!
- CoCAIneFaCe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0
just like the Playstation, the Xbox, your pc, the DS and any Gameboy, yes, it will be obsolete.
PSP will never be obsolete because it is the first handheld system that allows you to play multiple platforms of old-school games. If you love old school games, then you will never need anything else! - Bluecobra, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0LOL I MY MOM BOUGHT ME A DS AND I HAV NO VIRUSES!!!111 DS TOTALLY PAWNS PSP!
- dirtyuser, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1
Everyone knew it was only a matter of time before the PSP got hacked. This is simply another example of what a waste of money the PSP really is.
Gee I can already do that with my cell phone. - FRAGaLOT, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1You'd think something like this would have been created long BEFORE they discovered the MPH exploit for the 2.0 firmware. Since it's easier to execute code on 1.5, downloading homebrew willy-nilly.
I suspect Sony probably made this to thwart people trying to downgrade. But this really isn't a "virus", it's a trojan. Since you download and run it thinking it's the MPH exploit, when it's not.
