- errorjustin, on 10/12/2007, -4/+18Hey guys, sorry. This is my blog, and I stopped submitting it to Digg a while back when I realized the wordpress software could never handle the digg traffic (it isn't our server, which is quite nice).
I've submitted a reboot request and it should come back up shortly. Are there any cheap(ish) blog software solutions that won't crumble under Digg traffic? Again, it ISN'T our server that's the problem. - praisethelard, on 06/06/2008, -1/+12@Twindagger:
I like how that big, tough looking guy had a Pikachu backpack! - Waterispoison, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13DIGG used DIGGEFFECT!
It's supereffective! - xtmno3, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9I heard you like mudkips...
- xtmno3, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8My pokeymans, let me show you them.
- DreKor, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Part of me laughed, but most of me died.
- Jarasmen, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9You can return it to me then.
- MulanLang, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9Please, for the love of Digg, stop linking to WordPress blogs.
- msikma, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Can't believe they took so long to make an online major Pokémon game. Seriously, that game does have a great amount of potential, even though I didn't really like the offline Pokémon games.
- HMTKSteve, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4On line Pokemon play is going to take the world by storm!
- Enterprise8875, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8Then return your Wii because it will be and I cant wait for it plus the new DS Pokemon(which is online also and will link with wi-fi to this game)
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Back in my days, we only had 150 pokemon....it should've stayed that way.
- errorjustin, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6@otheruser
I already told you, it isn't a hosting issue. The server the blog is hosted on hosts a couple other sites, one of which is a custom-coded project, and it's been dugg many times, had 8,000 concurrent users more than once, etc. And the server never even blinked. It's expensive hosting, and we've never had an issue with it.
...until this wordpress blog started getting dugg ;) The issue here is Wordpress's (lack of) scalability, it seems. Otherwise one site on this SAME SERVER being dugg not slowing things even slightly wouldn't make sense.
What I'm asking for are blog SOFTWARE solutions that will hold up. Not hosting. - KyleMistry, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3You're not the only one. It's a classic, my friend. Let it be celebrated.
- LordofChaosIori, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3No... a Pokemon MMORPG would own so damn much...
- TheLastGnu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@billyleet
I think it could have something to do with BOTH players having to choose an action, and you have to wait for the player on the other end to select her's. - blork1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I thought the Pokémon Stadium games were great, especially the 2nd (G/S) one. I spent hours defeating the gym leaders and Elite 4, but it was all the extras that made it great. The Pokémon Academy where you could learn all about the type weaknesses and take quizzes - sure, it doesn't sound like a whole load of fun, but to me it was amazing.
I just hope PBR can be that good. And that Diamond and Pearl can live up to Gold and Silver... - wonkavsn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I like one of Robot Chicken's takes on Pokemon:

I didn't SUBMIT this link. After Digg took the blog down a few times I stopped submitting it. As I said in my original comment... - BuGz213, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yeah, its the first game in japan to have online play.. so thats excatly what it means.
If they make an RPG version of it for Wii, now that would be sweet, plus online play, that would be crazy good. - s7r1k3r, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4It does look bad. I hated Stadium which was very boring. They should make a full rpg 3d game in the pokemon universe like they did zelda.
- atown44, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I recognized two moves.... Fissure and Surf.... don't act like every bit of the original colors doesn't still haunt you. (Red, Blue, and Yellow for America) You know this video made you want to get an emulator and jump back in...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3it's already down
- shakin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2@otheruser
Transferring files doesn't make a big difference. The database is usually a bottleneck for any web app. Hosted plans are bad because they may limit your CPU usage and bandwidth. Caching content fixes the CPU and database problem (I have no idea if Word Press can do that) and designing a site with very few images (and optimize the ones you do have) will help with the bandwidth problem.
Surviving a digg isn't hard, but most people running blogs have never written or run a large-scale web app before. Even for those that do, they often use off-the-shelf software like Word Press that isn't very well optimized (it seems).
If you just use HTML pages and manage them with Dreamweaver -- and don't go overboard with images -- you'll probably survive a digging. You will also lose functionality. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2now i can't wait for the game!
- jetsdonwankey, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4http://www.pokemonwii.com/pokemon-battle-revolution-video-from-wii-online-japan/
Just incase. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1They should create an open ended pokemon rpg, that would own so got damn much. i dont know why they are bothering with stuff like this...
- vashgunfighter, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2anyone notice how bad the guy on the left is until the very end? Granted, they were both mismatches, but you switch out as soon as you notice there is a terrible mismatch...unless they took that out or something >_> Also, his last pokemon had ice attacks. Was his opponent's final pokemon an ice type too? Or was it just water? If so, he was a fool not to use ice attacks. I only ask since I'm not familiar with that Walrus-looking pokemon.
- diecastbeatdown, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i hope that is not the final version, barely any sound effects in that video.
- emperor799, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1http://www.gamebrink.com/tube/tube3.swf?i=images/movies/FAJEt3oTYDo&l=nintendo-wii/1880-Pokemon_Battle_Revolution-video-2&m=bandwidth
- NSMike, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You don't need sound effects when you've got a Japanese guy yelling all the time.
- EricAnderton, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@errorjustin:
It may be too late to suggest this, but perhaps saving the raw HTML output of your blog entry, and posting it back to the site as "pokemon.html" or somesuch, might be the best solution? Sure you loose feedback and comments, but then your site won't fold like a card-table either.
Granted, this only works if you plan on being dugg. Otherwise, I'd look into some blog software that has some more robust caching, lest it turns into a lightning rod again. - Mullinsmcd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Anyone want to clarify the internet fad that hes referring to?
- dr00, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1his last pokemon is psychic. it's the new 3rd stage for male kirlias.
is it sad that my first thoughts were "why didn't he withdraw it? it's weak to fire!"
then i saw he had that psychic... he should have used that against the monkey since it's fire/fighting.
/sigh i really can't wait for this game lol - fallenone05, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I can't believe after all these years my little brother also like pokemons...he's 10 yrs old
- otheruser, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1@shakin
Yea I figured the problem lies in the MYSQL database being stressed too much. As for the caching solution, there are plugins to add this feature:
http://mnm.uib.es/gallir/wp-cache-2/ - Grave, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0A console Pokemon MMO would indeed pwn. I was hoping Pokemon Battle Revolution would be that game when it was first announced.
- PleaseJustDie, on 10/12/2007, -7/+7This is soo hard to decide. Digg for possible wii online play in the US, or bury as Lame since its Pokemon... decisions decisions... why can't I have both?
- voodoom, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3the real link:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=j7DeOdxH2Ro - heysuburbia, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I've had my wordpress site on the front page around 5 times, never got digg *****... Media Temple is my host.
- Scyth3, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3You're gonna be reaaal pissed.
- zetsurin, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Pokemon.... AGAIN??? *****.
- burndive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Wow. Pokemon is so lame.
I sure hope Smash Bros on the Wii isn't that slow. If you're looking for something to showcase online play, this is about the worst choice anyone could have made.
You might as well just pull up a chat program and tell the other person what to input into your controller. -
