- rm999, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That house started collapsing before the truck even hit it. I call BS. The guy running into the house and the soft shadows were really cool.
What new features will be in directx 10? It seems like everything they did in the video could have been done with directx 9 or opengl (and a well-made engine). - Darth_tater, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1dont forget 2 metnion that its a direct link
- hasanahmad, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Directx 10 has Shader 4.0 built from the ground up
Directx 10 will have faster DLL Libraries
Completely new DLL Libraries
Directx 7-9 will be supported but on a software level, not hardware - silviarunner, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1WE NEED DIRECT FEED WAY BETTER VIDEO QUAILITY
- Psykus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Will it be called DirectXX?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well, another $10,000,000 card to buy... I can afford it. I'm not that poor. Ah hahahaha ah hahahaha! That's rich!
- Protoss, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You can find a topic about it at neowin.net (http://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?s=0243c23013e3151374f3cd0fce459641&showtopic=374107&st=0)
- archerx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"I agree with you guys. Its high on the graphical gee-whiz factor, but, come on, what does foliage brushes past your character versus going through you have to offer to improve gameplay?"
yes its called immersion. - sonar_un, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You guys seem to be doing all this talk, but you forget that increased graphics create an immersive feel to the game, which increases game play. There are only a few companies now that are actually creating game engines. The "gameplay" companies take that engine, do a few motifications and then create a game around the engines abilities. The fewer limitations in the engine, the more immersive the game, it is as simple as that.
So next time you think that gameplay is the only way to go, go back to playing pong. - modpancake, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This looks very promising. I also appreciate the direct video link! Wish I could digg twice, because I'd give another just for that.
- thefist_of_funk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That is simply amazing! Problem is my crapbox of a computer can't run this =(.
- hasanahmad, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0no video card exists, this was done by software, which actually hinders performance, just imagine when directx 10 cards come out
- fozzcorp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Key? I don't need no stinkin' key... *pulls out the ole rocket launcher* Muhahahahaha
- MightyGiant, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"I agree with you guys. Its high on the graphical gee-whiz factor, but, come on, what does foliage brushes past your character versus going through you have to offer to improve gameplay?"
Gameplay is up to the developers. Not the graphics. - xboxgamer91, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I THINK DAAAAAAMN SON
- igutekunst, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Awesome!
- shamanking, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0wow +Digg
- CaptSnuffy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0and in related news: Nvidia ups the price of all of their video cards just becuase they love us so much
- suicidal-kid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Wow, that looks greeat.
- SlashNot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0great ***** real nice
- saggygrandma, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yeah lets all praise Direct x for that... even though it was created by crytek...
- aznboi04k, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i love you crytek. please do me.
- tommot82, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0YEY! New toys for developers to work with.
Looks simply AWESOME! - AOHELL, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Oh yeah this looks really good but i wonder if SLi or CrossFire will be enough for that..
- vashspike, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Time for another upgrade!!
- maskd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0No it didn't. I just hope that along with these cool looking graphics is some equally good gameplay. I vote that they just recreate all the classics with these wicked new engines, so you got both awesome gameplay and awesome graphics, instead of one or the other.
- Dropscience, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i wonder i fmy 6800 can handle it.
- rm999, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Whoops I meant the guy running into the plant
- mike_p, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0wow, very nice... but again, was there anything that directx 9 couldn't do? or just a greater API for developers to work with (making their lives easier?)
- extremezone, on 10/25/2008, -0/+0VERY FAST SPEED 1 LINK MIRROR HERE WWW.EXTREMEZONE.3XFORUM.RO , ENJOY MY FRIENDS
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0But will it run on linux?
- njs12345, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Really not _that_ impressive.. and it's really nothing to do with DirectX 10. That could have been done with OpenGL or DirectX 9 no problem
- xtmno3, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Nice! Should be cool if they can actually get developers to utilize it well. Like has been said a million times before, I will believe it when I see it. Most game companies get caught on BETTER GRAPHICS!!!!1 and forget that you have to make a good game to go with the graphics.
- rottedrode, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Incredible. I need to upgrade my system.
- genyoda, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0hot
- GarethSaxby, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0DirectX can be run through WINE still, but as DirectX is the graphical API of choice at the moment emulation is really going to have to get a bit better first before you can see this kind of thing on Linux. Either that or we all get OpenGL instead, heh.
- fozzcorp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"I agree with you guys. Its high on the graphical gee-whiz factor, but, come on, what does foliage brushes past your character versus going through you have to offer to improve gameplay?"
Oh yea, ever have someone sneak past you in BF Vietnam because they were trveling through the woods and they just pass through the brush. Now at least you can see that the brush seems to be moving in an odd and linear way, muhahahaha *KaBoom* - Dabellah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Even if this CAN be done with DX9 (I'm sure most of us know that already) on current cards, imagine what DX10 is built to do. It's going to take this stuff to HARDWARE over SOFTWARE and drastically improve performance. Only when there is a card released with its support will we really get to see the overall power of the new system. My guess is it's going to kick ass and burn some machines with the new DLL libraries alone. Faster indexing here we come! ;)
- elShaggy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Video Games rule. How long until we have photorealistic graphics??
- mirunit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Its awesome, I just hope I dont have to update drivers - that or Nvidia comes out with some that work well with 6800/NF3 else thats gonna make it freeze like crazy
- binarystar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0oh myyyy this is ridiculoid.
- Dgen_X, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0holy *****...
one thing I've been waiting for...real time movement for foliage...I'm sick of leaves going directly through characters - MolenXs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0If the graphics engine is using DirectX10 what card is it running on that supports SM4.0 and so on? 7800GTX don't have SM4.0.
- Protoss, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"This looks very promising. I also appreciate the direct video link! Wish I could digg twice, because I'd give another just for that."
Yea I just thought I'd link to the original topic in a comment. Sorry bout the crap video though, couldn't find anything else....I don't think it was supposed to be released to the public :P - GoldenChaos, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The video won't load, but I've seen some images of this stuff and it looks good. I'll be constantly trying to load this video, just to see it!
I'm worried now - is it looks this good, why did I buy a 7800GTX if it was going to get its arse kicked by DX10 a few months later? I hope some sort of solution to make cards like that, which used to be top of the line, stop from becoming bottom of the line. I can't imagine what kind of power a card would need to handle graphics like that, and it's certainly beyond most older cards. Even if something is "Vista Ready," does that really mean it's Vista Gaming Ready? New games that use DX10 may require more up-to-date video cards because their visuals are so powerful. And so that they don't make our old DX9 cards explode.
Hardcore gamers will probably upgrade on the spot, so because of this I have a question:
Any one of you want to lend me $700 for a nice future video card? ;) - SlashNot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0no one is talking about gameplay right now, this is merely to show new graphics off. Wait for someone to produce a game before you start whining about gameplsy
- AeroStorm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Damn I need to start saving money
- theone3, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0whine whine Microsoft whine whine whine Linux whine whine propreitary.
Guys!
Microsoft employees need to eat too! They aren't a stupid company! They aren't going to put their development efforts into the competition! -
