- streetstealth, on 10/26/2007, -2/+43The main strength of Firefly was its characters, which wouldn't really be present in the game. That said, the universe still holds a lot of potential.
- DeathJux, on 10/26/2007, -4/+40Hey, it worked for "The Matrix"!
Oh wait... - PsycoMonkey, on 10/26/2007, -2/+37Shiny.
- wassupening, on 10/26/2007, -3/+37Agreed. This can be either be a really good thing or an incredibly bad thing.
- TuxedoMax, on 10/26/2007, -1/+28I suspect the "smuggler" class is going to be severely over-represented in this game.
- Paal, on 10/26/2007, -5/+26seriously... an MMO? I'm quite a geek, but why the Hell should I have to join an MMO to get more Firefly experiences? I don't have time for that crap. Give me a graphic novel, a book, a direct to video movie... anything but an MMO... entertainment is supposed to be a diversion, NOT A TASK.
- orientis, on 10/12/2007, -5/+23As long as the bastards who destroyed Star wars Galaxies and the children who designed WoW have nothing to do with it, could be good.
I also want a season 2. How could they cancel this show?! It was fantastic! Excellent steam-punky feel n all. - AlienHairball, on 10/26/2007, -4/+22While I agree that the rest of season one and season 2 would be really great, I think a Firefly MMORPG has some great potential. All comes down to who develops it and how well they can deliver on the promise, but I'm certainly gonna follow this and try to get involved at an early stage :)
Think about having to scrounge up enough score to get yer first ship and then always wondering if it'll hold up just long enough to make it to the next stop :) It's probably easier to imagine how we'd want the game to be than for such a game to make it to market. - omnithought, on 10/26/2007, -2/+17Can we kill people with our brain?
- anagoge, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14Come on, be honest, you don't already. ;-)
*Doesn't either* - contradictator, on 10/26/2007, -2/+14I wonder what Joss Whedon really thinks of this.
- babylonian, on 10/26/2007, -2/+13Yeah, as excited as I am about this, the first thing that sprang to mind was the phrase "not good enough." :(
- neko, on 10/26/2007, -1/+12I think that's the problem, the characters. The characters were great. But this is going to be an MMO, and MMOs are connected to the internets, and the internets are full of humans.
I fully expect to see 100s of identical characters all named Mal, Mal_TheOne, ~-=!Mal!=-~ and so on, all bunnyhopping everywhere. And speaking like LOL INTERNETS. - orientis, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12We all know the American people have such discerning taste in art and culture. If a movie doesn't make much money, it is a bad movie. QED
Also, your opinion is totally 100% objectively correct and we should all follow your example.
You cretin. - AssProphet, on 10/26/2007, -1/+9I agree the characters made the series. But the worlds they created had a lot of character on it's their own too. Of course it could be some goram space western that they tack on the name Firefly to get extra sales.
I'm not going to play (because I just don't like the format for mmorpg) but I'd hate to see the Firefly brand get tainted by a sucky game. - anagoge, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10I saw the title of this article and thought "Hell YES. Pay per download season 2!"
And then I read on. I hate gorram Fox! - aliengoods, on 10/26/2007, -2/+10I never saw it when it was on tv. I didn't see the series until after I had seen Serenity. And now that I have seen all of them (and bought the DVDs), I'm totally pissed it was cancelled. The worst part is I've gotten 4 friends hooked on it who are equally pissed, and unlike myself, they usually hate Sci-Fi.
I think the phrase 'ahead of its time' applies. If this show had been given a good time slot and a bit of promotion, I think it would be huge right now. I'm still secretly hoping Sci-Fi picks it up for new shows as thats the only channel with the balls to touch it. - brundlefly76, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12If the object of the game is to threesome with Kaylee and Inara, I'm in.
- Bob042, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10As long as the word "SoE" is never mentioned near anyone who has a part in it's development.
- szelij, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8I agree with Babylonian. Us fans have pretty high stardards and the game has to be up to scratch. Not only that, it has to compete with EVE.
Given that, it has to be exceptional or it'd just be a passing fad.. - MiDri, on 10/26/2007, -1/+8Probably not...
- VermiciousKnid, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8dude. video game != living on
- CarolJude, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7"7 excellent seasons" of Buffy? Either there are some complete seasons hidden somewhere that I didn't see, or someone's math is off....
The last 3 seasons (maybe even 4) of Buffy make me almost happy Firefly ended when it did. We were spared the inevitable wedding of Kaylie and the Reaver that ate, then killed, then wore Simon, the outing of Jayne, and a host of other things I can't think of right now.
Another season or two of Firefly wouldn't have hurt, though. - leobaby, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Firefly was a special brief burst of classic sci-fi goodness.
Consider it a jewel in time greater because of its briefness. Anything that happens now with the cast might feel like a reunion, but it's happened before successfully for other series.
I personally liked it because there were no darned aliens; just humans scattered across a star system. - CurtHowland, on 10/26/2007, -3/+8But... will it have a native Linux client?
- Kypt, on 10/26/2007, -2/+7"How can you take a game like that seriously? "
You're not. Its a game... - BevansDesign, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I'm pretty sure that's not a word.
- STKD, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Joss managed 7 excellent seasons of Buffy, five pretty damn good seasons of Angel and one partial great season of Firefly... why would he ever have messed up with that track record?
- Moofed, on 10/26/2007, -1/+5Linux (and Mac) client is conceivable:
http://www.multiverse.net/developer/faq.jsp?cid=4&scid=4#p1 - AlanKc, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Dear God. This game, plus stargate worlds...
Im gonna have no life.. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Gah. As much as I like the show, this doomed to fail.
- neko, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I like the WoW graphics. It's my fellow internet community I can't stand.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Maybe if enough interest is generated in the game, someone could pick up the show? Albeit the chances are slim with so much time passed :(
- foolfromhell, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4"Albeit the chances are slim with so much time passed :("
Whedon said that if he ever visited the 'verse again, it would be different characters.
I REALLY hope we can find out Shepard Book's identity! I would spend $30 to find that out.
With Stargate Worlds, Star Trek Online, and This, im gonna be occupied...
OH, how am I ever going to decide???? - billymachine, on 10/26/2007, -0/+3*Sigh* Look, just because you're "telling the truth" doesn't mean it's true. Certainty is not the same as accuracy.
- falstaff, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I'm going to have to seriously reconsider my boycott of MMO games. If there's anything that could get me to spend a monthly fee, this is it.
- Kypt, on 10/12/2007, -6/+8Hrmm I understand hate toward SWG, but honestly what's wrong with WoW other than it somehow has become "mainstream" and thus "not cool" anymore? Userbase? Graphics too cartoony? (legitimate question here, not trying to flame...)
- Thumper13, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3While I too want some other form of Firefly, this will do for now. It will be the first MMO I will play. If I find out though that Joss isn't getting any money from it I will stop playing faster than you can say Gorram Fox!
Playing in the 'verse with a bunch of other Browncoats, has potential to be quite shiny. - Dweller99, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Yet You spent the time to troll this thread.
- staticneuron, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I am curious how this would pan out. Alot of the places I would like to have visit and side characters I would like to have seen were sorta..... done away with in the movie. I wonder at which point in time would this universe start.
- UberGeek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2i like firefly just as much as anybody else, but they already have an MMO for it, its called EVE online. and it is awesome
- etruscan, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4I love the idea. But honestly - I'd rather see CCP doing it. I've tried the multiverse engine and it's very second-life'ish... but less good. Firefly has great material for an MMO, but it's going to mean a lot of work and care... and it should likely be primarily a space game.
Somehow, I don't feel like Multiverse has an appreciation for what would need to go into this game. It would need to rival SWG or Eve Online in scope, and that's devotion for a gaming company. - boomerxl, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4I don't think the main problem with WoW is the graphics, it's the fact that Blizzard didn't balance the classes from the start, and are constantly reconfiguring abilities post release. Then they release new material with little regard for overall impact, and the cycle begins again.
If they keep it up there will be little to no difference between classes or factions. - alexkorova, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I like the WoW graphics, it's the repetitive gameplay I can't stand.
So yeah, I dislike most MMORPGs, even tho I like the concept. - alexthemonster, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Oh boy. A whole virtual world full of people saying "gorram" and making poor attempts at sarcastic quips.
- Cybie, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Just think, all of the prostitutes from Second Life can now play as Companions on the Firefly MMO. :)
- VioletArrows, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2If the studio doesn't ruin it, other ***** bent on ruining the game and other player's experiences will. That's what MMOs are all about.
- Morca007, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Ugh, I just looked at the screens from the MultiVerse engine, it's sickening.
- EricJD, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2What an odd coincidence that this news pops up now.
I just watched the entire season for the first time over the past couple days :) - CapnMarrrrk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Imagine a 'verse where everyone is Jane.
Without the Firefly overlay, Eve is pretty much a wild west, anything goes universe anyway.
FF would be hard, hard pressed to capture that. But...I'd at least give a good twice over. -
