No riots where I went. Nothing to rob or steal from me since I just had a license and credit card. But yeah, standing in line a day is worth it. There were well over 300 people, the manager didn't announce anything. The police were already lined up and informed people how many units, and briefly let the mob rush the door. Unfortunately, I was on the wrong side of the doors or I would've probably got one.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Dude... this is intentional. The whole *point* of restricting access is to whip up hype and get free media coverage. If everything went without a hitch, no-one had to wait, and there were no $40000 PS3's on ebay, the launch would have been a total failure for Sony marketing.
Sony has spent about $100M on marketing, but thanks to bb-gun drive-by's, long queues, riots, broken jaws, and ebayers, they're getting enormous amounts of media coverage _which just can not be bought_.
