- contradictator, on 10/12/2007, -3/+37Final word: Zebra.
- justincoombs21, on 10/12/2007, -3/+25THE SCREEN IS UNREAL. SO UNREAL IT MAY BE WORTH 130$ IF YOU ALREADY OWN AN ORIGINAL DS.
get New Super Mario Bros, and Mario Kart DS...and Brain Age...and Metroid... damnit and Kirby's Canvas, Brain Academy and Paper Mario. Too many titles... must sell kidney - thashiz, on 10/12/2007, -3/+20Got mine a couple weeks ago. Worth the extra few bucks to have it early, this is a definite must-have. :)
Best Buy has an awesome accessory that I saw advertised today that I hadn't seen before, sku# 7785079. Allows you to watch up to 10 movies on your DS! :)

- artanis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15Bring a DS, you might get lonely all by yourself.
- Sirocco, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16I'm guessing he's a PSP fanboi who's pissed because his $250 brick is only good for playing old SNES roms and tired PS2 retreads.
- SilentPurity, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14First Word: Daddy.
- mark925, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16I've had mine for the last 2 months or so (imported). It's completely worth the wait!
- NexusOfNow, on 10/12/2007, -4/+16Heaven help me, but I'm tempted. There's nothing wrong with my DS, except that it won't quite fit in my pocket... Oh, and I don't have the Opera browser for it! But that's a different digg...
- TheWalkingDude, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13I got mine a couple of weeks ago. In my opinion it's the first portable worthy of being considered a full fledged console. The games are original, not just ported, and they took the time to do them right. And the lite is slick, every bit as sexy as the iPod. Flash Carts work in it too, but they stick out - I'm still using my Micro for that. Yeah that's right, I have no food and my GPA is falling, but I've got the Nintendo thing covered.
- Hoffer, on 10/12/2007, -4/+14Just got back from Gamestop with my DS Lite. I sold them my DS Phat for $70 and paid the difference.
The display is awesome. New Super Mario Bros looks amazing. The colors are so bright and vivid. The DS Lite has a very "designed by Apple Computer" look and feel. I always thought the DS Phat had a lame design. - thashiz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11The Opera browser will be sold on a cartridge according to the press release - should work on the DS fine I would imagine.
http://www.opera.com/pressreleases/en/2006/02/15/ - tlogank, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12and don't forget Super MarioKart DS...awesome online gameplay!
- joesmosax, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12possibly the best console I've ever played.
Got it early at Target....worth every penny. The wireless functions flawlessly and playing vs. real people adds tons to the experience. - ifonly, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11My Advice:
Get a lite, you can even trade your old DS (+some ££) at some UK game shops I have noticed.
Get: SMB-DS + MetroidP - nothingthewolf, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10i held off on the DS for a long long time. i was content with my gameboy advance sp (especially with the brighter backlit screen). I am definately going to have to indulge in a little DS Lite.
- XMorbius, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I'm debating getting one, but the one thing that really erks me is the whole GBA cartridge out the bottom business. If you could tell me, would it be feasible to bring the DS Lite along with a GBA cart in it all the time? Does it get in the way? Does it somehow make the system feel weird? Anything? I just love having two games, right there in the machine. And yeah, I could throw games in my backpack, use a case, etc. And a good amount of the time I do. But, would it work to just have a GBA cart in there 90% of the time?
- artanis, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9@EliColburn
I'm guessing you're a Fox News fan? - Dabellah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Had a DS, just bought my DS Lite - Worth every freakin' penny! First off, there are 4 (not 3) brightness settings. The lowest being the original DS. I hopped on my original to transfer my wifi over to my new one and holy crap, I couldn't believe teh difference. I never noticed how dark the actual DS screens are compared to the Lite version's. You REALLY hvae to see this first hand as the videos all over the net don't do it justice.
- EdwardsNH, on 10/12/2007, -6/+12I held off too. As a matter of fact, I wasn't all that impressed. But after they started with online play, and after the lite's release in Japan got such rave reviews, I preordered the lite as soon as I could.
- danglerman, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8you're on the front page today pal. I bought the DS lite and yes, it is all it's supposed to be, AWESOME.
(no line for me! I got to Best Buy right when it opened. - cmilkosk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6So my kids got their DS Lites today. I was thinking that maybe now the firmware would be updated to support WPA - but no.
Why is WPA encryption still unsupported? Doesn't Nintendo realize that the wireless networks are typically secured by the parents? The parents (if they want to protect their data) use WPA and not WEP.
Chris - Yoshi39, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opera_(web_browser)
On February 15, 2006, Opera announced that they had developed a web browser for the Nintendo DS. [18] It will take advantage of the system's dual screens for either zooming in on certain sections of a website or having a longer vertical view. Opera for the DS will have upgradeable firmware, which will enable software updates. The browser will go on sale in Japan on June 2006, for 3,800 yen. (32.15 USD). So far no U.S. or European release has been mentioned.[19][20] - cphuntington97, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8Don't forget Animal Crossing :-)
- apetrie, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Does anyone know if it will be available in black eventually or that is just a rumour? I wouldn't wait just for the sake of getting a black one, but because financial reasons demand I wait no matter what, it would be nice to think I'll eventually have that option. I know everyone loves the Apple white plastic look but I just hate it, not because its Apple style, I have nothing against that, I just don't personally find it aesthetically pleasing.

- humanpowered, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6The Final Word : Yes.
- timmyboywonder, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6I went to wal-mart last night to pick one up at 12 am, after waiting for an hour they told us that they could not find them :( It really sucked
- zumbojo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5I got mine just a hair after midnight (I had to talk to some Wal*Mart employees - they were still hidden in the back room), then proceeded to play Brain Age and Mario Kart (only Japanese players were online, and I schooled them mercilessly) until 6 A.M. The NDSL is amazing.
- neocitron, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5i'm looking at my DS lite i just bought.. is it worth it? a resounding yes... i've never seen such great workmanship in a product since the original iPod
- Etheo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I just got the DS lite today, and let me tell you, the New Super Mario Bros had me sold. The main game is great, but the Mini games which utilize the DS lite to its fullest is where the money lies, IMO. Call me an idiot, but I actually got this huge smile on me when I was playing those little suckers. It was worth walking all over the mall to find the last copy.
... I got carried away. ANYWAYS, the DS lite screen is bright. and I mean BRIGHT. I know you've heard it from others, but I'll say it again to add to the count... it GLOWS. The new look is sweet as you would have expected, and the controls handle nicely. I didn't get the old DS just because of it's ugly model. The DS lite is everything the original DS was supposed to be, and then some.
I apologize for the review like comment... I just wanted to express my joy and hopefully more people will get it too. Call me a fanboy, mod me down, whatever. I'm prepared for it. I got my DS lite to play with ^_^ - bodyslam911, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I just ordered mine,I held off on the original but now with all the awesome games out I felt it was the right time to snag 1 up.
- Klisk, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Awesome! :D Thanks for the link.
- RckmRobot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I remember when the Nintendo DS first came out, I was very skeptical. The idea of having two screens - one of them being a touch screen - seemed superfluous.
Then I found Digg, and started hearing all the hype about the DS Lite coming out, which really got me interested in how well the platform actually performed.
Lo and behold, yesterday I did some searching to find who would be selling it, and today I bought a DSL first thing in the morning.
I am *extremely* impressed by the form AND the function. The screens go together like peanut butter and jelly, and the touch screen seems as intuitive as it was touted to be. So far I only have NSMB, which has kept me thoroughly entertained throughout most of the day. I am forcing myself to wait before I buy more games (and I know I will) otherwise I'll never get anything done for weeks.
I can't wait to get somewhere where I can try the WiFi capabilities of my new toy. Solo is great, I can only imagine how awesome the multiplayer will be.
Bottom line, it's worth every penny. - TravisL, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Walked in to Best Buy and picked up the DS Lite, Mario Bros., and a free copy of Brainage. My first handheld since the Gameboy. I'm loving it!
- vspazv, on 10/12/2007, -9/+11ZZYZXENSIS: part of Apolysis zzyzxensis, a bombyliid fly (named for the Desert Studies Area on Zzyzx Road)
- Sirocco, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4I picked mine up this morning. I'm extremely happy with it. The screen is far superior to the original DS, and the button placement is more ergonomic as well.
- allisonaxe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2i'm going to repeat what i said in the other thread:
My DS Lite has a dead pixel, and its making me very angry. i'm having the urge to throw it against the wall, only then it will never be covered by the warranty, and I'd probably put a hole in the wall: the thing has some heft to it!
here is what nintendo's customer support page has to say about stuck pixels: http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/systems/dslite/trouble_spot.jsp
if you're a sucker and pre-ordered it at EB or some other boutique store, they probably won't exchange it (the eb rep told me that their warranty only covers stuck pixels if there is a clump of 5 or more, which is *****.) here is how you can set up a repair with nintendo: http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/repair/repair_form_us.jsp
you may need to register your serial number for the warranty to work. after filling out that form, it'll take 4-10 business days to recieve your UPS return label, and 3-4 more business days to repair it and return it.. so i guess i'll just have to play something else for the next couple weeks. - sjk8990, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2$50 says this isn't the final word on the DS Lite.
- hankyone, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5I did not had to wait to get mine, i woke up at 7:00am for nothing!
- nmaster64, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'm psyched about my new Lite. Man, you can really tell the difference once you turn it on. It's crystal clear and the colors are much more vibrant. It really brings the game to life, and definitely provides a much better experience. All that plus the MUCH more comfortable stylus and the smaller size and weight, oh yeah, and that sexy Apple-ish design. Well, just wow. Everyone needs one, now.
- Dari, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4The screen was. The screen on the original DS was way, WAY too dark. Try playing Resident Evil DS on it. ;)
- Yaku83, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I got mine just before work today, have to say that I am impressed with it. Definitely a higher res screen. Also, maybe it was just at my Gamestop, but there were a few people waiting outside before the store opened which suprised me. Looks like the PSP is going to take the same spot the Gamegear had years ago. :P
- PGvildys, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4When the PSP and DS came out, I remembered all the generations in the GB.. from original, to pocket, to colour to GBA to GBA SP... and said, "I can wait" and now the wait is over :)
- Thisco, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3http://ms.nintendo-europe.com/dslite/
Shows the black one. I'm assuming that in Europe it's a launch colour at the end of this month... - codejedi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Picked up mine today at Best Buy. The first gaming system I've owned since the original 8-bit Nintendo. There were 4 still on the shelf after I took mine. Nice little machine.
- RocketMike, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1bloodwings: the wireless internet access, so that wardrivers like me can't mooch off it.
- VioletArrows, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4After owning an original DS in white, I can't handle another white handheld. No matter what I do, my hands are always grubby like I'm some kind of 5 year old, and it's a minute particle magnet.
I also love how NoA thinks we're color blind or something. Japan's going to have 50 colors by the end of the DS's run, and the US will have 5. I waited a year to get my original DS, I can wait however long it takes to get some decent colors in. -
