- sagat, on 10/15/2007, -1/+24I've squeezed more playing hours out of Oblivion than any other game bar - Morrowind and yet Bethesda is giving me more? I'll take it kindly sirs. And now get yourselves to work on the followup.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+21You can't torrent down 360 DLC..
- coheedcollapse, on 10/11/2007, -0/+14It's free. What the hell are you complaining about?
- quickslvr1287, on 10/13/2007, -9/+21aside from the two expansions they released they all should have been free. I hate all this micro-transaction crap. If I wanted to continually pay for new content I would go play an MMO.
- ferrariman60, on 10/11/2007, -1/+11Very cool. Oblivion is awesome, and their DLC has added quite a bit to the gameplay for me (read: taken even more valuable hours of my life, as if 100+ wasn't enough already). Kudos to Bethesda for releasing it free for the first week, way to show appreciation for your fans.
- uberphildo, on 10/15/2007, -10/+20October 15th happens to be my 25th birthday. Thanks Bethesda!
- JudgeMonkey, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Hmm, you are dugg down. I guess other people seem to think anything for free IS awesome.... even AIDS evidently.
- ConeOfSilence, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8210+ hrs on my current game, it just doesn't seem to end with all the side missions and all.
- Metropolis, on 10/11/2007, -2/+9How much more stuff can they possibly pack into this game? It's a great game and all, but I actually like to, ya know, live.
- wageslaven, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7All this DLC helps extend the value of games that you already own. I think it is terrific. Bring on the episodic gaming. Give me a good value of single-player content when I buy, but make more hours available.
Game Content and Budgets are porbably more linear than you appreciate. Think of the Engine as a "fixed cost" and the content as the "variable cost".
Making the Engine costs the same if you have 10 hours or 1000 hours of content. I dont want games to cost $150 just because quickslvr1287 doesnt "like" DLC but the game makers have a thousand hours of quality content but cant get it into a single $60 retail box.
Bring on the DLC. - Cannfodd3r, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Personally I thought the Dark Brotherhood missions were the best of the "guild" ones.
- zengonzo, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5The jerking off block cannot afford any cuts.
- zengonzo, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5I ultimately agree that there is definitely something to be said for investing further into an already enjoyable game.
But it also creates the opportunity for developers to leave obvious features out in favor of selling them to you later ..
The Movies from Lionhead forced you to use preset camera angles which was frustrating and ridiculous, considering you could explore a set at any point with a free camera, but then could only record from locked positions. Sure enough, an expansion comes out sometime later that allows for a free camera.
It took more development to set up the specific angles for each shot than it would to have allowed a free camera in the first place. They locked it purely to sell you functionality afterwards. That's sleazy. - WWWoody, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5PS3 is getting Shivering Isles, the other two are getting this.
- wageslaven, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4If you havent BOUGHT Oblivion, MGS and Bethesda just reduced the Xbox 360 version to $30 in the "Platinum Hits Series".

This game has 94 / 100 at Metacritic, MGS / Bethesda are selling it for $30 and releasing FREE DLC.

Terrific. - umrgregg, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4>>but free is awesome so Ill just downloaded... you know just because its free.
Wow, that's an unfortunate compulsion to have on the internet... - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3No *****. I bought it for the PS3 and every day I'd come home from work, start working on the main story, then get sidetracked with something totally different. I ended up completing the Thieves' Guild quest purely by accident...those missions are alot of fun. I am pretty close to beating it after making my way through all the guild ranks but still haven't hit the top of the Fighter's Guild yet so I don't wanna beat it.
It's like a game that never ends..and at least I'm not scared to go into the Oblivion realm at the current level. I'll go close gates for fun now. The first time I stepped in there I got owned and it really pissed me off. - negativefx, on 10/11/2007, -5/+8oh yeah, i forgot that you have to pay for this content to continue playing the game that you purchase for $60, like an MMO. wait something just doesn't add up there...
- BoredSarcasm, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Oblivion is not one of the most complex games, but it is one of the deepest in terms of play time. The environments are very detailed, and most of the quests are fun. But what makes it is the loot.
Im glad theres another download, the past two have been fun, so should this one. - exomni, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4Gears of War was published my Microsoft Game Studios. Oblivion was published by 2K.
- marco0009, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3No kidding. The original game's side quests are plentiful. Add on to that all the user created mods I've downloaded (Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul, Martigan's Monster Mod, and some texture packs) and I don't think I'll ever be able to complete everything.
- PatoLucas, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Simple: don't download it and stop bitching :)
- schizogony, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Also, each letter in AIDS stands for something. It's not like it's the plural form of AID.
- Chuck95, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3I'm going to sound like an idiot, but does anyone have any suggestions on playing the game without getting bogged down with the levelling scheme? I love Oblivion, but I just find that the levelling/skill mechanism gets in the way of enjoying the game too much. I get too tied up with trying not to gimp my character by levelling too quick and making sure I get all my skills up evenly. I find myself spending too much time hopping around or doing other boring tasks to get that one ability or skill up instead of actually enjoying the game. Maybe I pick my class wrong or my primary skills wrong for my playstyle. Any suggestions?
- ConeOfSilence, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3there are plenty of un-official mods for Oblivion ( P.C of course ), I have aprox 100 so far out of which I have around about half of them installed. My fav is the Final Fantasy mod.
- timfitz99, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4Dang, I thought there was no more content, and sold my copy of Oblivion. Oh well, I definitely got my money's worth out of it. Great game.
- exomni, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4Sweet! Oblivion rules, and free content makes it even better.
- drachemorder, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3So are the paid downloads, for that matter.
- schizogony, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4Is this for PC, Xbox 360 and PS3?
- DangerMouse9, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4Other than drinking Mt. Dew, watching anime, jerking off, and hanging out on digg what could you possibly do?
- xino, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Don't forget that the ones that get it for free have the same privileges that the ones who will pay for it after the first week so that means even if you don't have the game right now, still get it and then if you need the space, you can delete it right away and you will be able to download it again for free in the future as many times as you want. I personally tested this when they released episode one of the Pac-Man cartoon for free for limited time and then deleted and was able to get it again for free even after they started charging money for it.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2The first rule about fighter's stronghold...Don't talk about fighter's stronghold
- jeremymccurdy, on 10/11/2007, -9/+11Cool, but why have it free for only a week? I mean, the free copy is just gonna be all over torrent sites anyway.
- DeBurgo, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Notice that the game doesn't force you to level up. If you feel like you're not ready for the next wave of monsters then you shouldn't level up, just stay at that level and increase the stats you think you're too weak in. It's pretty weird and artificial but there you go. Also, I wouldn't worry about getting your skills up unevenly, since you'll have plenty of time to max out your stats.
- Nobi-Wan, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2It's free for a week. The Gears of War maps became free a few months after they were initially released. Basically Bethesda is doing what Epic did...but in reverse.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2You left out eating giant sandwiches like Gabe Newell.
- bCabulon, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2sweet, shivering isles is coming out for the PS3.
- Windfish, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Meh, the other areas were a waste of time, I thought this was going to be a new quest or something like the Knights of the 9.
- xXGeechXx, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Sweet, I'll probably never play oblivion again but free is awesome so Ill just downloaded... you know just because its free.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Orly? Maybe...AIDS = Avoid Injecting Demon Seed?
- coheedcollapse, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Quiet, troll.
- hello2usir, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Google for some leveling mods. There are a few good ones out there.
- Sornos, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1There are people who don't have it? Well buy it already.
- shlemielo, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Check out Kobu's Character Advancement System (KCAS). It's designed to let you be fully immersed without worrying about leveling at all (you don't even have to sleep to level). Pairing KCAS up with Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul makes for a great experience.
- hollismb, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1There's also a game of the year edition, that's 'new' and costs 59.99. I believe it's got all the added content already in it. Not sure about the differences though.
- cavie2002, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1free castle FTW!
- GeekyGerge, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Will there be new acheivements?
- stevetrojanman, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Happy Birthday to both...I turn 25 on the 14th..so I'll take my belated birthday present...
- fishbert, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Too bad my console will be in for red-ring-of-death repair... looks like I can't get the free download.
- Userfaulty, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1"aside from the two expansions they released they all should have been free. I hate all this micro-transaction crap. If I wanted to continually pay for new content I would go play an MMO."
you are going to bitch that Bethesda's DLC only costs about a $1.99 each for random content when you will pay $300 or so for an IPOD and download songs from iTunes for $0.99 a pop? (granted you do heh)
Sorry man but Bethesda could have joint custody of my child if they asked. -
