- truspector, on 10/23/2007, -12/+269Next Sony will be blaming Halo 3 for poor PS3 sales.
- ahnonamis, on 10/23/2007, -2/+241Poor movie releases are to blame.
- ChazPSE, on 10/19/2007, -1/+121At least they are not saying piracy for once....now to finish on Legendary.
- CanIGetAWitness, on 10/20/2007, -0/+113I blame film Exec's for continually lining their pockets with crappy movies. They think because they find a script, even one that's been done to death, and cast the "popular" actors, that everyone would come running to the theater. It's a competition folks and you are losing.
- username909, on 10/19/2007, -1/+99The MPAA should start suing people that bought Halo 3 - they're stealing fromt the movie industry!!!
- inactive, on 10/23/2007, -4/+87That would actually be true.
- theaceoffire, on 10/20/2007, -8/+87In all honesty though, they are probably right.
Theaters, plays, bowling allies, golf courses, games, rental games, rental movies, dvd's, cd's, etc are all competing for the same targets. And those targets (Us) have limited funds... tack on a $60 game and (in some cases) $400 console for one game, and the other competitors will suffer.
Still, this was bound to happen soon anyway: people are starting to prefer home entertainment and TV more than movies in actual theaters. - kaelyiesta, on 10/17/2007, -1/+70"The audience on this game is the 18-to-34 demographic"
If the in game chat system is any indication, I'd extend that range down to below puberty. - clink0914, on 10/16/2007, -0/+38No, those movies are becoming fewer and fewer because studios are taking the easy way out and producing big budget turds.
- SilverBlade2k, on 10/16/2007, -1/+38Wow, they finally admit to lack of sales for something *other* then piracy.
- TheSwagger, on 10/16/2007, -3/+40I say this goes a long way in making a Halo movie make sense financially, but knowing hollywood it will be made by Uwe Boll and suck worse than Ben Stiller's next romantic comedy.
- verifex, on 10/17/2007, -2/+38I'm going to blame "The Orange Box" for not going to a movie in the past week.
- flagrant, on 10/17/2007, -1/+30They blame Halo 3... I blame the ***** movies in theaters right now.
- RoadDoggFL, on 10/20/2007, -3/+30Sony has to do with it in the sense that he's saying: DUH.
Film execs blaming Halo for poor ticket sales is just them taking the easy way out. What else would you expect from them? - Arkavus, on 10/17/2007, -1/+27I have to kind of half agree here. I definitely prefer home entertainment but there are just some movies you HAVE to seen in theaters at least once.
- Shiftyeyedgoat, on 10/16/2007, -1/+26The MPAA is going to have a strong word with you after class, young man.
- JeyNyce, on 10/16/2007, -1/+26That's funny, my wife blames Master Chief for me not having sex with her.
- zyklon, on 10/17/2007, -1/+21Piracy, Halo 3... Whatever they point their finger at, they'll never realise that the movies that are coming out lately are either terrible or just recycled 80's fads.
- Akaji, on 10/16/2007, -1/+20Yes, but those movies are becoming fewer and fewer because people are turning their homes into miniature theaters (50+" TVs and extremely good sound systems aren't very expensive anymore).
- jkramsay, on 10/17/2007, -1/+18This doesn't explain why all my non-gaming friends are complaining about how awful the movies currently in the theaters are.
- JNudda, on 10/23/2007, -1/+17"Several film executives and researchers are convinced that many movie-goers stayed home playing the game instead of venturing out to the theater."
I know I am. - Snarfy, on 10/17/2007, -0/+16In related news, horse and buggy manufacturers are blaming the automobile for poor sales.
- Akaji, on 10/16/2007, -0/+15No. Go away.
- phronq, on 10/16/2007, -2/+16I'm calling BS on that theory, and going with "Hollywood is making shyte films" theory instead.
- NeoCortex, on 10/17/2007, -2/+16Unfortunately, Saved Films > Most Hollywood Films
- Rapter09, on 10/16/2007, -1/+14A rather interesting - and vindicating - "up yours" from Bungie (and Pete Jackson, since he loves the game and the franchise) to the movie industry for cancelling the film.
- carl25, on 10/17/2007, -3/+15i blame global warming again
- pcpimpster, on 10/16/2007, -2/+13***** duh.
- fuzzynyanko, on 10/16/2007, -0/+11And those very same execs turned down the Halo movie. Serves them right.
- chrisinsocalif, on 10/16/2007, -1/+11When will Hollywood blame poor movies for poor ticket sales? They are always trying to blame someone else.
- ydt89, on 10/16/2007, -0/+10Totally agree with ya abnonamis. We went out last night to see a movie.. We ended up leaving minutes after arriving at the theater. Out of all seriousness, there is simply nothing worth seeing.
- pcpimpster, on 10/16/2007, -2/+12throw a costume on her, you'll be fine.
- traceur, on 10/16/2007, -0/+9you should chill out a little buddy
- mishaco, on 10/16/2007, -1/+10a lame excuse if i ever heard one .
it's your product that sucks ! - Acglaphotis, on 10/16/2007, -1/+10By dvd you mean bittorrent, right?
- lordbeef, on 10/16/2007, -1/+10Yeah as easy as it is to say "well make good movies and you'll get sales" they have to see video games as real competition now.
If you're a movie studio, you don't want to release your movie at the same time as a juggernaut like Spiderman 3, and now they have to plan their timing around videogames.
To put this in clearer terms. Say you have a movie you're going to release next year that has a youth demographic. Would you really want to launch it at the same time as Grand Theft Auto 4? - sadilak, on 10/16/2007, -0/+9I think it is the fact that they are expensive. it costs atleast $40(for a family of 4) to watch a movie in a theater. Why would somebody do that when they can wait for a few months and watch the same for $1(courtesy of Netflix) .
- Loonacy, on 10/16/2007, -0/+9My friend's kids still play with their Wii (wow, a while back I would have been arrested for saying that out loud), but he says he no longer finds it as fun as it was.
- lookbehindu, on 10/16/2007, -1/+10now if only they would lower prices in desperation to bring people to the theaters
- trogdor282, on 10/16/2007, -0/+8http://www.thebestpageintheuniverse.net/c.cgi?u=co ...
- Buelldozer, on 10/16/2007, -0/+8It's allright, I've been taking care of that for you.
- Nickerz, on 10/16/2007, -2/+10It's probably not the pat downs at premieres, escalating rudeness in theaters from both patrons and employees, definitely not the commercials, or the outrageous cost of food or the lack of worthwhile movies (Superbad was a home run, and well worth the poor pre movie experience for the awesome in film greatness of that movie)... hmm... Yeah, you know what. They probably are right. It's not the overall movie experience, which is now total garbage, it's HALO! I would love to show this article to any of my Economics professors, they would have a field day with it trying to insert a video game into a competing product slot, much less one video game creating a ripple effect through an entire industry.
- battletrax, on 10/16/2007, -1/+9Next film execs are oblivious to a halo film..
Oh wait...
Fund a damn movie if you want money. Are you listening fox? - MrSteamTank, on 10/16/2007, -1/+9One form of very popular entertainment being purchased often ends up in less purchases in another form of entertainment that often targets the same audience. SHOCKING!
- masterofshadows, on 10/16/2007, -1/+9its the intended audience, while people under 18 still do get their hands on it, it wasn't made for them.
Also I've seen a person who has a graduate degree in linguistics talk like a 10 year old boy when playing halo. You cant judge a person's actual age by how they talk online. - Guspaz, on 10/16/2007, -2/+10Guess you shouldn't have pulled out of that Halo movie, eh guys? Oh well, you ***** up, deal with it.
- milkmage, on 10/16/2007, -1/+8if the video game industry can figure out what their demographic wants.. WHY THE ***** CAN'T THE MOVIE MAKERS? it's that simple.. Ben Stiller or the Flood.. you decide.
- asurroca, on 10/16/2007, -0/+7funny thing is I could def see them try....
- dacheetah, on 10/16/2007, -0/+7If Uwe Boll touches Halo, I suspect he will die. He already ***** up Bloodrayne badly enough, and while Postal probably worked out reasonably with his directing style (I havn't seen it), nothing good could come from him touching anything Halo. All it takes is one crazed fan with a gun, and there are many many fans, and probably a lot with guns.
- thurows, on 10/16/2007, -1/+8Silly me, I thought it was piracy that was causing a decline in movie ticket sales.
