No friends...That's how you do it. Dump your friends list. - NaziHatinChimp, on 01/25/2008, -8/+224It was Jesus dugg.
- blueRAP, on 01/25/2008, -2/+128Digg™. Giving friendless losers everywhere a chance.
- NGliam, on 01/25/2008, -3/+10921000 friends activity, what? Who are you, god?
- akifbayram, on 01/25/2008, -0/+100The title had the word "Amazing" in it.
+131 Diggs. - inactive, on 01/25/2008, -6/+83Kevin could post the contents of his toilet after a hectic podcast wank/drinking session and most of the dicks here would digg it.
- jaybol, on 01/25/2008, -1/+66yeah curious to know how a social news site is going to handle that issue as a result of the new equation ---> zero friends + zero influence = happiest
someone have the data on friends deleted today? - sockpuppets, on 01/25/2008, -2/+64I always thought it was just Kevin sitting around drinking beer and frontpaging stuff. Honest.
- Tiak, on 01/25/2008, -7/+61This is a blatant commentjack, but it matters how fast it gets the diggs more than anything... 19 diggs in 30 seconds will put you on the front page when 50 diggs in 60 minutes won't... This makes some perfect sense to me.
- iRoy, on 01/25/2008, -2/+46You guys think this is nuts?
That stupid dog screensaver thing is number one right now with 11K diggs, should say a lot about our current user base. - Apokalyps2547, on 01/25/2008, -0/+44I think it's a different number depending on your TOPIC.
The 19-digg article is "Other Sports". A relatively obscure topic compared to "Apple", "Design", "US Elections 2008", etc. - Jesse, on 01/25/2008, -4/+46Why's it always a big controversy if Kevin's posts make the front page? He created the ***** site. He probably has a "FP this" button next to every article he sees and so what?
- Tiak, on 01/25/2008, -0/+42I stand corrected... This particular story spent 16 hours before hitting the front page... The system is *****.
- maxtypezero, on 01/25/2008, -1/+41internet attention whore is more like it
- inactive, on 01/25/2008, -1/+39Did you notice that the next entry in the screenshot after ballstriker is Kevin Rose, who managed to make the FP with 207 diggs? ;) His friends list is trimmed at 99, which is interesting. First of all, I'm suprised he subjects his own diggs to the digg algorithm. Second, given who he is, wouldn't virtually all of his submissions make the FP no matter how many friends he has?
- Dumbledorito, on 01/25/2008, -2/+35Digg is now more efficient, requiring fewer Diggs to get the same results.
I think it reduces Digg's carbon footprint. - adrian67, on 01/25/2008, -5/+32So, what if EVERYONE un-friended all their friends? All you'd have to do is keep all your friends submission pages on RSS feeds, that way you wouldn't miss a submission, and all the Diggs the submissions received couldn't be counted as from friends (coz you wouldn't have any). It would just be counted as normal NON-friend users Digging your submissions. Surely that's the answer? I guess I'm BANNED now lol.
- Responder656, on 01/25/2008, -1/+27Definitely gaming-related news.
- borez, on 01/25/2008, -1/+25"virtually all of his submissions make it to the FP"
That's coz it's maybe...his site - mattcoady, on 01/25/2008, -0/+24I'd say more likely he just has a lot of people watching what he posts and they'll digg it regardless of the story.
- sockpuppets, on 01/25/2008, -0/+23It's also who diggs it, too. Certain profiles surely "weigh" more than others.
- morguth, on 01/25/2008, -1/+23You're doing a good job. I already had you blocked for some reason...probably for rick roll trollin'.
- vault, on 01/25/2008, -4/+25I guess if the only reason you're on digg is to see how many articles you can get to the front page, and don't care about what your friends are interested in, and also don't care about their comments...sure, then it makes sense to unfriend everyone so your articles can get to the frontpage more easily.
I didn't realize this was a competition. Some articles are interesting and will never make it to the front page because they're interesting only to a limited group of people who have probably friended each other or will in the future. You people are ridiculous to complain about an algorithm change...it's not like the news will suddenly stop just because different people are submitting the articles. - Plasmatica, on 01/25/2008, -4/+24Socializing? To paraphrase something that made the front page a few days ago: Digg is to socializing what masturbation is to sex. I'm glad they've changed the algorithm to give others a chance to make the front page. What's the point of having a few influential people who always make it to the front page with the same type of stories.
- lalop, on 01/25/2008, -0/+20virtually all of his submissions make it to the FP
- NoStoppingUs, on 01/25/2008, -10/+30i dont understand why people put so much concern towards what makes it to the front page and who does it? do you people really not have lives? i submit stuff because i think other people should see it/would like to see it, not because i want it to hit the front page.
get.
lives. - supermanred, on 01/25/2008, -1/+20Kevin Rose has a "***** this is awesome!" button when he logs in. If he presses it, voila front page.
Ownership has it's privileges! - Tiak, on 01/25/2008, -0/+19...The green tag says one (or more) of your friends dugg the story...
- bratterscain, on 01/25/2008, -0/+17Really. 710 friends in roughly a month? wtf?
- mghwom1, on 01/25/2008, -2/+17Algorithm is hard to spell.
- dotlizard, on 01/25/2008, -6/+20yeah, i realize they called off the revolt and everything, but the more i think about it the more i wonder, what the hell is the appeal of social news minus the socializing?
- xGrill, on 01/25/2008, -0/+14its gunna be really hard for kevin rose to make the front page now.
- inactive, on 01/25/2008, -1/+15what the hell is a digg friend? Is it someone I email to invite to digg?
Couldnt imagine its people you think are cool from the digg comment system since this seems completly random to me as compared to a normal message board where you get to know certain usernames. - MackenzieArbour, on 01/25/2008, -0/+14What Would Jesus Digg?
- bacchus101, on 01/25/2008, -2/+16Right...moderator's diggs count 1,324,534 times more then my digg. That is what makes this system so democratic.
/sarcasm - MacHarborGuy, on 01/25/2008, -1/+14sure he does, it's called "access to the SQL database"
- bruenig, on 01/25/2008, -3/+16The point is of course that if 19 digged garbage is hitting the front page and yours isn't, then all of your submitting is in vain.
- po43292, on 01/25/2008, -1/+14Where can I get this Roflcopter™?
- HeyaBILL, on 01/25/2008, -2/+14The lack of ad-block blinds me.
- Daolohua, on 01/25/2008, -0/+12Read the title: "TOTALLY AMAZING TRICK SHOTS"!! If that doesn't factor into the digg algorithm and get put on the front page immediately then what does?? ...I mean, they were amazing!
- azbmr, on 01/25/2008, -1/+12It is because he talks a LOT of *****. 178 comments and only 7 articles dugg.
- leonardoty, on 01/25/2008, -2/+13How did this story make it to front page?
- battletrax, on 01/25/2008, -3/+14Roflcopter™
- FatLoser, on 01/25/2008, -2/+13I think it's hilarious to see the "Top Diggers" getting pissy about this. They're having difficulty getting sympathy because the only people who gain from their influence, are them. Still, despite all the whining, their posts still make it to the front page... so basically nothing has changed.
- mraustin1337, on 01/25/2008, -4/+15I can't believe this. People complain about how the digg algorithm doesn't allow things to get to the front page without "a zillion diggs" and now that they change the algorithm people are annoyed?! I think this is awesome! =) Cheers digg.
- inactive, on 01/25/2008, -1/+12Digg had far more traffic (popularity?) before they added the idiotic friends crap. If you are coming to Digg ***** dot com to socialize, you have far more problems than the new algorithm.
- bagelpirate, on 01/25/2008, -0/+11Its clear by the title, it was totally amazing.
- jmpeagle, on 01/25/2008, -2/+12well someone is clearly gaming the system
