- Yashar, on 10/12/2007, -2/+64That pretty much seals the deal as not being a hoax. All those people who screamed fake dont really have much to say now.
- G5Unit91, on 10/12/2007, -5/+27You nailed it, I'm a little angry since I have an Xbox 360 without HDMI, but I'm gald to see Microsoft keeping up to date with providing their customers with the best possible games, movie, and music expierience.
And I for one welcome out new HDMI bearing Xbox 360's. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -9/+24Sum1 - The Worst Song In The World Ever
From their album "Annoying music that people should turn off before recording videos for YouTube" - mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13The likelihood of this being fake is about 1 : 1000. It would be insanely difficult and nearly impossible to fake this much detail.
- gamabunta, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I'm willing to bet when this thing ships, a lot of extended warranties will be redeemed.
- Ironman11, on 10/12/2007, -6/+13This better have Wifi built in, because every other console does: Wii, PS3, DS, and PSP. Theres no excuse for not having it in the new 360
- azurepalm, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10I guess one reason is that consoles are supposed to last for about 5 years (without any major changes). Many people consider the addition of HDMI as significant/major.
- gamabunta, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6@ deepfresh
component < VGA < DVI < HDMI
Note HDMI is identical to DVI, except that HDMI carries both the video and audio signal as well as has newer copy protection methods. - SupaDawg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Xbox Scene doesn't post fake news. They have an extremely solid reputation and don't need to risk it for page hits. If they're convinced this is authentic so am i.
- richard5mith, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5@Lososaurus: Have you seen the PS3? That thing is proper huge.
- mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6"Just get the cable when it comes out for the current model."
..Did you not read the post? The current ANA hardware scaler (apparently) only works with analog signals, so the current model will never get a digital connection. - azurepalm, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7What people need to remember is that their game still works exactly the same either in the 1st gen Xbox 360 or 2nd gen Xbox 360. That's the important thing! ;)
My few years old TV has 1080p component, not 1080p HDMI. So, this won't affect me much, but it's definetly nice to have the options. So next time I got a new TV (probably Xbox 3 will be out by then), I have less cable to mess with. I hope Microsoft still add support for component in addition to HDMI on their next Xbox. - k3n85, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8I can't believe how much people swore that it was fake .... some guy claiming his left nut that it was fake. Is it a bad thing that things change? PS2, iPods all change. People buy electronics knowing they'll soon be not the newest, it happens.
Anyways, glad to see that this evidence has come out and hopefully will make it to the market within the next quarter or two - kauko, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7"Now if there is a stark difference in say performance, noise levels etc....."
I highly doubt there will be any difference in the performance. The new CPU (...if there is going to be a new CPU) will be clocked exactly the same and each instruction will take exactly the same number of clock cycles to execute and so on. The same goes for the GPU, buses, amount of memory, memory access performance and so on. The main benefit of consoles for developers and consumers is the fact that their performance stays the same from the beginning of their lifecycle to the very end. Microsoft would gain absolutely nothing by releasing a version with a higher CPU clock speed, for example.
If the rumours about the 120 GB hard drive are true, I'm sure Microsoft will sell it as an accessory, just like they are selling the 20 GB one now as well. Hopefully the price stays the same, or better yet, is lowered. When it comes noise levels and HMDI, well I guess users of older 360s are just out of luck. I bet lots of DS owners felt disappointed too when Nintendo released DS Lite with much nicer form factor, better screen and vastly improved battery life. But that's the way it goes. - ditoa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4It isn't really surprising that Microsoft are working on a new revision Xbox 360. Sony did it with the PS2 (and PS1). It makes sense for this type of product. While HDMI and a 120GB HDD is great the thing I most want is a quieter system, although HDMI, bigger HDD and WiFi would be nice as well ;)
- Ricapar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Why?
Why can't some people understand the fact that technology is constantly improving? You brought an XBox 360 knowing exactly what it had. If MS updates the system, they don't have to, and almost certainly won't, give you the updated system.
I brought my MacBook over the summer, and Apple just released one with the Core 2 Duo and some more RAM. Should I get the updates for free? No. - gwolf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I do not understand why people think that's important. Why would Microsoft increase the cost of their system by adding an expensive unnecessary drive.
- Xanium4332, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I don't really care about not having a HDMI port, it's more the 120gb drive that I want. I hope you can buy the new 120gb HDD separately...
Oh, and if they *were* ever to put a HD-DVD drive in it, that would definitely make me _have_ to get a new one. - addisonj, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7hmm... Empires comment made me think of an interesting point, with MS being so kind lately as to extend warranties to a year and refunding the rest, it makes me wonder how they will respond to the backlash of this, maybe possible some sort of "upgrade" price through MS? certainly there will be a community firestorm once it is made public by MS, i doubt they want that sort of attention
- grexeo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3VGA is analog - the current XBOX 360 output 1080p VGA. You don't need a HDMI to VGA adapter.
- Spooky, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Quote: "This is microsoft we're talking about :) They'll milk you for everything they possibly can."
Yea, Microsoft is the only company that does this; its a business, the goal is to make money. I love it when people bash successful companies and attempts to make them out as villains. Give me a break. - miketuck3r, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I can guarentee you will be able to buy it seperately, thats why they made the HDD detachable, i agree aswell i have no need for HDMI
- TonyCubed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Yes and Yes for the those two. The new Hard drive will be external like it's current little brother. So anyone with an Xbox360 can buy one! :)
- pabster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3The only thing I want is a 120GB (or larger) drive. I could care less about HDMI or a 65nm process chip. Neither of those would be enough to make me want to "upgrade" to a new 360.
- Fearnight, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It sure as hell wont, so quit dreaming. (even though that would be quite nice)
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6I personally would rather have built in Wi-Fi. Seriously how much can that cost in this day in age when everything has it. Oh yeah and one more thing this would set the precedence for them to release other new ones . So in a year they can release another one with in the box HD DVD and people wouldn't be surprised.
- revenge7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@tastypastry
Buying a new cable is much more expensive than just buying an adapter. - vagarach, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Return it then! Most big retailers give 2+ weeks for no questions asked return. Unless it was ebgames. In which case I laugh.
- Nethid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2There is a big possibility that this is fake.
First, The 360 itself looks like an ordinary Xbox 360 (not like the black, extended harddrive spot, that all the other devs are). On The Hana scaler picture (the last picture on there), the words seem way too symmetrical on the photo, and the whole thing looks... photoshoped.
Heres the big thing hat I noticed that screams fake- One the photo of the back of the Xbox 360, you can see the HDMI port.If you look above it, you can see the metal going around the HDMI port. Now, look at the Ethernet port on the right side, notice how there are two very different metals around the ports? Why would Microsoft randomly do this? I see no good reason to use a different type of metal around the ports.
And of course, how did somebody take this picture? How could this super secret prototype gt dissected by some random people, and then get picture taken?
There is just too much wrong with this... - andreo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The only reason that someone would be concerned about having HDMI over component or VGA is if they are looking to output the audio through the HDMI cable. When I first saw this new model my thought was that there would be a dongle that connected to the A/V port that would allow you to connect a optical cable to the 360. Would be for people that wanted 5.1 sound going to a receiver (that didn't have HDMI on it) but still wanted video through the HDMI cable.
While that may be something that they have and it just wasn't shown in the video it is also possible that MS won't include such a dongle.
So in short the only way this would mean anything to you is if:
1) you have a TV that accepts HDMI
2) you have a receiver that accepts audio through HDMI and passes the video on to the TV
3) I see this as being mostly for HD-DVD movies since they need HDMI to pass along the newest sounds (True-HD and DD+)
If you are just using your 360 for games and you don't have the above mentioned needs then HDMI won't mean much to you. - dr00, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2i'm the same boat.
i don't get why people are freaking out either. it's a nice addition, but not enough to warrant upgrading (from what's been speculated) and there's not even a pricepoint yet.
i'll just buy a larger HD, but i'm sure my 20g will do me just fine for a while. - mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'm in the opposite situation.. I don't need the larger HDD, but I'm desperate for the HDMI connection.
- cheeze69, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Re: backlash
I just bought a 360 about 2 weeks ago. So far, I'm happy and I don't care about the HDMI upgrade. A noise and heat reduction would be nice, but not entirely required. However, the one thing I would 'backlash' about is the 120GB drive. I already paid $400 for this "deluxe" 360 with the 20GB drive and I'll be highly resistant to spending another $100 (using the price of the current standalone drive upgrade) for a 120GB drive.
Now, I would *like* the 120GB and if I had it, I *might* be inclined to try a movie or two here and there, which I'm not really excited about with my current 12GB (usable) setup, however, I won't be paying another $100 so I can basically watch pay-per-rent movies. MS would need to (and should) offer owners who have bought within the past 6 months (or something similar) a severe discount on upgrading to the new HD -- something in the range of not more than $50. It would be in their best interest to do this because without it, people like me just won't be spending the points on movies. - testdrivemedia, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Well, i'm gutted. I bought my bundle a week ago :( ... oh well.
- jmreid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This explains why I got such a great deal on a 360 bundle right after Christmas.
- smokespliffz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I see most people are looking for bigger drives, Why not just purchase a 250GB external usb 2 drive? It cost me about 80 quid, and the X360 recognizes it? Or one of those minture laptop 2.5'' drive and adaptors to match your X360? It does the job and is discreet (behind the tv lol)
- Easty, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3So Zephyr will have HDMI, 65nm, and 120GB hard drive (or is that still just a rumour?)
Anything else? - interiot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2What's with the giant penguin next to the screen? "Who knows what lurks in the labs of Microsoft? The Penguin knows!"
- tastypastry, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Actually it would have made more sense to just buy an HDMI cable that has DVI on the other end.
- HappyScrappy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The latest word was the 65nm chip was delayed to mid-2007. So this wouldn't have it if it is to come out soon.
As to the "IPTV VOD DVR" thing, the article never said it was a DVR. What good is a DVR with a 2.5" HDD? If you spend a truckload of cash ($150 or so), you can get a 160GB or 200GB 2.5" HDD. On the other hand, 300GB 3.5" HDDs can be had for peanuts, and they're higher performance to boot (which is important for simultaneous recording and playback, as a DVR does). Additionally, you leave your set top box on all the time, and 360 is much too loud to be on all the time, even with the DVD drive spun down.
This IPTV rumor isn't making a lot of sense to me right now. Perhaps if MS officially announces it, they'll also explain how it can be made to make any sense. - Krakn3Dfx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1What I'm more interested in is if the v2 will be more reliable, less prone to overheating and chip connection problems that have plagued v1. It would be nice to think the MS would work on these things while improving the console system overall.
Having said that, owning a new console for a year or less just to have it eclipsed by a new revision that will force people to shell out another $300-$400 to upgrade is an insult. If it was 2-3 years later, it would be one thing, but getting stuck with what basically amounts to the beta version of of a console while they release a new, fixed version is bunk. Will I run off to PS3 Land because of it? No. Will I put less money into XBox 360 games for it? You bet your ***. - aspangenberg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Maybe I worded it wrong. I can't wait to play Gears of War, Topspin 2, and a bunch of other games. I was trying to say it wasn't the only game I'm looking forward to, just Halo 3 is when I will probably make my purchase.
- HappyScrappy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2So apparently everyone who bought a 360 over Xmas (all 2M) were buying the "tard pack" 360 inadvertently. Now if you bought one, your cost to get up to current spec is going to be a full price replacement. You can't even buy the core unit (at $300?) because one of the new features is the larger HDD.
- TheKingInYellow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1next time just use the on board microphone of your camera to explain to us what you're doing while you're doing it instead of dubbing over your video with some craptastic music. huff.
- gamabunta, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Depends on the device. I'm thinking with the new 360 you will be able to choose between composite or optical audio.
- evilspoons, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1How can you say it's the only good game out there when it isn't even out? Halo 3 could blow chunks for all you know. That, and Dead Rising, Gears of War, and Viva Pinata are all awesome games.
- andreo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Very very nice. I will be getting this when it comes out. The old 360 will go into a bedroom or something. I will have to assume that they will be decoding DD+ and True HD.
Though I really do hope that they are able to release a HDMI cable for the original 360 as well.
I know that consumer devices change, get revisions, gain some features and loose others. But it will cause some bad blood with people that already purchased the 360 simply because they are MS. And lets face it. Even though the system is not really really expensive, buying a replacement is not a trivial matter.
But if only for the sake of progress I'm looking forward to this new model and I'm very excited. I hope we start seeing them this spring or summer. - kyle9013, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I went to target yesterday, And on the side of the box of a premium where the contents are and it had HDMI then i looked on the other side of the box, and i saw on a label "Zephyr" ....So, does anyone know if the Zephyr have the 65nm chips in them or what? is this the v2 of the 360?
Thanks. - evilspoons, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Oh right, my bad. You did word it funny, but I should have read more carefully :)
- Sethbacca, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well, here's to hoping :)
