- GregorCZ, on 07/22/2008, -2/+57Very well designed site, it will most likely replace Gamespot for me.
- WRE3, on 07/23/2008, -0/+36Gamespot is dead! Long live Giantbomb!
- dvsbastard, on 07/23/2008, -0/+34I wonder if they'll review Kane and Lynch?!
- jestro, on 07/22/2008, -0/+30How hard is it to link directly to the site?
- darkchild82, on 07/22/2008, -0/+18It is not your usual gaming site by any means, Jeff Gerstmann shows you in this video what you can do on the site: http://www.giantbomb.com/news/welcome-back/108/
- somesthetic, on 07/23/2008, -0/+15you cannot expect them to have cataloged every single game and character and item at site's launch.
it is supposed to be community driven, so if you see something that is lacking you can submit the additions yourself. - finn, on 07/23/2008, -0/+11it's awesome, and as far as the comments about it being incomplete, well it DID just officially launch Sunday night, its going to take them a bit to fill up on content as alot of it does rely on user participation and moderation of that content.
and yes it IS new, granted giantbomb.com has been up for quite a while now, but only with their blogs and stuff, but as of this week its a full-featured site with already 20,000 contributions to it. - dalegoe, on 12/06/2008, -0/+9Yeah, so lazy. I'd much rather have a single game review during this slow summer release season than the twenty-six hours of live E3 coverage they put out last week.
- M724, on 07/22/2008, -1/+9I've been there before. I think I'll visit more often.
- Splitter402, on 07/23/2008, -1/+8What does CJayC think?
- wickensworth, on 07/23/2008, -0/+6*They have a good podcast to[o] for other[s] like me [who] listen to a few gaming podcasts.
- BTom14, on 07/23/2008, -0/+5Great Website, fantastic to see Jeff doing Video Reviews Again.
- BTom14, on 07/23/2008, -0/+5Gamespot = great website turned media whore
Go to the website ***** its more than just an encyclopedia and the wiki format is used on hundreds of websites nowadays. - bweltondav, on 07/23/2008, -0/+5I've already been submitting stuff to the site. The great thing about giantbomb is that it will cover minutia in games that wikipedia doesn't have. Also, listen to the giantbombcast sometimes and it's great. Support this site guys.
- ExRe, on 07/23/2008, -1/+6Looks pretty nice so far.
The one thing I noticed which was really annoying is the Top Editors list is WAY too long. Forces short pages to become stupidly long. (ex: http://www.giantbomb.com/gears-of-war-2/61-20662/) - Owwmykneecap, on 07/23/2008, -0/+4You know what, I have never found a gaming site that is good enough.
The two best gaming mags were Digitiser; a teletext based one with over 1.5million readers a week in the uk and Edge magazine a trad print magazine of very high standards, it is the industry bible.
Digi is gone but Edge lives on, however until about last week they didn't bother with a website (bar a loose connection with next-gen.biz)
They've launched http://www.edge-online.com/ now and it seems to be of a higher standard than the other fare, but not up to the print mag yet.
IGN, Gamespot, Loltaku, Gamesradar all read as if written by children
Eurogamers actually I should mention as being above the rest from what i have seen.
I hope this new site is going to cater for an adult audience with intelligent writing and not be for the people who scream lolfag down the mic on Xbox Live.
What other sites would you suggest? - kylesellers, on 07/23/2008, -3/+7They definitely will serve different purposes. GiantBomb won't replace traditional game review sites for me, but it is still an awesome (and fun) resource.
MetaCritic has replaced GameSpot for me, but GameSpot brought it on themselves. For instance, they haven't posted a single review in over 8 days... That's just lazy. - Scottievm, on 07/23/2008, -0/+4CJayC abandoned us :(
- amrush4th, on 07/22/2008, -0/+3They have a good podcast to for other like me that listen to a few gaming podcasts.
- t2t2, on 07/23/2008, -0/+3It was already submitted more than 1 day ago...
- Badam89, on 07/25/2008, -0/+3I joined.
- YoctoYotta, on 07/23/2008, -0/+3If you relate with the editorial staff, more power to you. While Gamespot has some very respectable people still on staff, anyone I really related with was already gone before Gerstmann's firing or left shortly after. Some of the jackass's they've hired in that wake don't help much for me. I'm a little jaded though, I've been following the site since videogames.com was just a teaser page right around when Daily Radar and Next Generation went dark and was a Gamespot member since day 1. I even paid for their premium service from the time they started offering it until Gerstmann was fired.
IGN was never big on my list either because their editorial staff is locked up behind closed doors. The pretty faces they hire to do their video content is insulting.
1up is way cool, both in content and because I like the people. The dudes at Giant Bomb I got love for. I really appreciate the content over at Games Radar but they should make their editors more public figures like Gamespot and 1up have done, it really does wonders for developing reader loyalty.
Mind you, I'm lame. - lot665, on 07/23/2008, -0/+2what does that mean "to play it to find out"? i don't know what that means!
- GliTCH82, on 07/23/2008, -0/+2Pretty slick. I like the way they have a cross-referencing database for game characters and other elements, IMDB style. They really fixed what I hated about most game review sites, specifically all that unnecessary clutter.
- inactive, on 07/23/2008, -0/+2I've actually been listening to the Giant Bombcast - they've been putting them out for quite a while now. Not bad stuff.
- AbeVigoda, on 07/23/2008, -5/+7No crap. This was posted here almost a year ago:
http://digg.com/gaming_news/GiantBomb_com_is_Jeff_ ... - chaos7, on 07/23/2008, -0/+2i hope gamespot will go out of business, but they probably won't because due to the masses of sheep out there willing to still give them business.
- bdickason, on 07/23/2008, -0/+2This is a full redesign and at the moment the most technically 'advanced' gaming site with the exception of maybe Shawn Fanning's Rupture.
- theodenking, on 07/23/2008, -0/+2Same here, although I find the forum system a little confusing.
- inactive, on 07/26/2008, -0/+2Portal is not on the important games list!
Sacrilige! - kidsix, on 07/23/2008, -2/+4disappointed in the five star rating system. always a pet peeve of mine. just not an adequate rating scale imo.
- scoobymf12, on 07/23/2008, -0/+2there are two website trying to do same cheapassgamer.com and know giantbomb.com
all about the community - appleseed1234, on 07/23/2008, -1/+3I second that notion.
Dugg for digging the presence of Gordon Freeman and absence of Master Chief from "popular characters." - sedrik, on 07/23/2008, -0/+1This site is pretty incredible. I used to be a fan of Jeff and Ryan at Gamespot. They've built a fantastic site -- someone can literally get lost in it for hours. Amazing work.
- WaltJay, on 07/23/2008, -1/+2So how does a site like this make money? I'm just curious because at the end of the day, Jeff & Co. still need to make a living.
- dandonia, on 07/26/2008, -0/+1Gamespot is on the up - that show (the linup i think) is pretty cool to watch and their E3 coverage was cool.
Metacritic is a good idea but it has serious flaws. Averages that include anomolies are inaccurate
1,2,3,4,5 = Average = 3
1,2,3,4,5000 = Average = 1002
Metacritic includes reviews from a lot of bias sources and some really bad reviewers. We need a site like metacritic but it should be selective.

The giantbomb is a cool site and I hope crazy fanboys don't ruin it. - chogi, on 07/24/2008, -0/+1about time
- ZombieSociety, on 07/23/2008, -1/+2Dugg because the first image I saw on the site was the Quaker Oats guy.
- acero47, on 07/24/2008, -0/+1I would of if the site wasn't so slow. I actually tried to edit it, but it never loaded. I'll try again sometime.
Edit: Nevermind, looks like someone fixed it already. See, it helps to mention inconsistencies. - DrBootygrabber, on 07/23/2008, -1/+2But we didnt really know what it was back then. It was just a mysterous blog.
- DrBootygrabber, on 07/23/2008, -0/+1Disagree - Writing 1000 words on every game that comes out just creates too much noise.
If a low-key game does surprise the critics, I don't expect these guys to miss the boat. Check their blog archives and you'll see a review for Professor Layton - definately not a high-profile release. - bdickason, on 07/23/2008, -0/+1I would personally recommend finding a site for the specific game you're looking for. Small, tight knit communities will always be better than behemoth sites that try to cover everything. Even tho Gerstman claims their site will focus on a few games, their database should cover just about everything in existence.
- navster15, on 07/23/2008, -1/+2Yeah, because determining that Game A is 0.02 points better than Game B works oh so well. /sarcasm
What's wrong with a five star system? 1 means bad, 2 means bad with caveats, 3 means average, 4 means great, and 5 means masterpiece. What more differentiation do you need?
Granted, I'm disappointed as well, although my disappointment stems from them not eliminating ratings all together. I prefer Kotaku's scoreless reviews, but I understand the Giant Bomb guys don't want to miss the metacritic gravy train. - Elranzer, on 07/23/2008, -0/+1Gamespot is the Fox News of videogames.
- ExRe, on 07/23/2008, -0/+1It says it was submitted 138 days ago.
- dondurma, on 09/27/2008, -0/+0Joined http://www.onlineflashgames.org
- Eanix, on 07/23/2008, -0/+0Does that mean you won't be reading your own post either?
- inactive, on 07/23/2008, -1/+1Hopefully this site will attract enough of the internet's gaming geniuses that "wikipedians" will no longer be 75% 14-year old losers arguing about the life story of Knuckles the Echidna.
- inactive, on 07/22/2008, -5/+4dude, that approach is sooo damn wrong. the problem with only focusing on a few core games is that a few other low-key games will get lost in the foray. these games could be awesome, but you would only find out by going to other sites. it's not a flawed position to review every game because every game could be gold. you have to play it to find out.
