- inactive, on 02/06/2009, -1/+9FTA : "Developers of 3D virtual worlds and multiplayer games may soon have access to tools that would allow them to build connected, promotional 2D, Flash versions of the same games. "
Hmmmm ****** detector ringing*
"The real benefit of this is that nobody's ever created one tool that lets you have two views,"
So they never heard of R-Type Dimension?
It IS possible to play in 3D and 2D with the same engine, but you need to code the engine to support this, or to make the 3D part just an enhanced version of the 2D one, and if you are willing to do it, you can do it now. And it would be possible with a small subset of games, not with "any console games" like the article mention, and that is *****. - freezerburn666, on 02/06/2009, -0/+52d call of duty anyone? - i didn't think so
- SirvenomItsac, on 02/06/2009, -0/+4ultima online did this a loooong time ago. The only thing new is playing a flash game with people playing the full game.
- EricAnderton, on 02/06/2009, -0/+4EricAnderton: Dammit, I can't hit the guy. We're never gonna break that bunker.
FreezerBurn666: WTF is your problem, private?
...
EricAnderton: I'm using the 3D client - he just turns sideways and disappears! - sparkmonkeyz, on 02/06/2009, -0/+3I think if you would have played the game and read the article you would know that that's not what this is for.
- GunWraith, on 02/05/2009, -0/+2My God... The future is now!
- buffyangel108, on 02/06/2009, -0/+2Wow: it's like an HDTV that lets you watch in 1080p AND on your watch!
- slyzxx, on 02/06/2009, -0/+2"Now, you can have proven genres of video games, really popular games, like shooters, real-time strategy, sports and things that exist on consoles or specially installed games," Bridges said, and "those types of games can live in your Web browser without a download."
Lazy? - NinjaBoy, on 02/06/2009, -0/+2I believe ultima online did this for a while. They made a 3d version that was the exact same ultima world as the 2d.
- Meocross, on 02/08/2009, -0/+1this 2D and 3D are crap im my opinion. when the hell are they going to make CGI 2D? you know the real 2D that everyone wants to see.
Not this cheap excuse that looks like paperweight pixels. - gamelord12, on 02/06/2009, -0/+1I would think it would be more like playing it at home on the downloaded 3D version and playing while you're bored at work (like I often am) in the flash version.
- inactive, on 02/06/2009, -1/+2Is this awesome (y/n)?
- pitlord, on 02/06/2009, -0/+1So, now instead of multi boxing with multiple PCs we can multi box with multiple tabs in our web browser? This means I will be able to play offense AND defense on the same screen!
- Donotsurf, on 02/06/2009, -0/+1Evolution is complete.
- inactive, on 02/06/2009, -0/+1So I'll be able to play WoW on my netbook?
- Meocross, on 02/08/2009, -0/+1The moment i saw the pic i was like RUN-ESCAPE!
- Nallohki, on 02/06/2009, -0/+1So the "amazing" thing here is that someone created middleware that supports flash as a platform?
Not seeing how that is "amazing" in any way... - smashingmonkey, on 02/08/2009, -0/+1You can visit the Louvre on one channel, or play Mortal Kombat with a friend in Vietnam.
- crazygamer67688, on 02/06/2009, -0/+1slyxx: nah, were just cheap
- fuzzynyanko, on 02/06/2009, -0/+1I'm not surprised since most of the basic fundamentals of a game in both 2d games and 3d games are similar
- Dodobutt222, on 02/08/2009, -0/+1The MMO "Twin Skies" was going to feature 2D Flash to 3D client interaction. Unfortunately the 3D game has been put on hold due to funding issues and the difficulty of making an MMO or whatever. They're making a free flash MMO prequel now, and when they're ready to continue the 3D client things you have done in the 2D game will effect the 3D game (plant a seed in the 2D game, see a grown tree in the 3D game, since the 3D game is set 30-some years later)

(skip to 2:40 for the tech demo) - darthfergie, on 02/06/2009, -0/+12D portal anyone?
Yeah I think so. - starburst997, on 02/06/2009, -0/+0It will be cooler if it was a 2D Mobile version and a full 3D PC game, then you will be able to let say buy new items, chat, craft, etc. on your phone when you do not have access to a PC
- FredFredrickson, on 02/06/2009, -1/+1New technology? Haven't we been able to do this for like, at least a decade?
- victornaj, on 02/06/2009, -0/+0Hopefully this opens the way to more ports of games for the iPhone/iPod, PSP, and whatever else comes down the pipe.
- jaggedsphere, on 02/07/2009, -0/+0Didn't read the article but the title brings to mind the book/movie of 'Flatland'
- JoshFester, on 02/06/2009, -1/+0This is very neat for gamers and developers alike
- DaemonNivas, on 02/06/2009, -4/+2Yes, but why would anyone want that? Play Super Mario while shooting people in Counterstrike?
Wait that would make sniper camping fun! - inactive, on 02/06/2009, -3/+1Bang bang
rob that bank
put em in jail

- inactive, on 02/06/2009, -5/+1Wang Wang
