Employers fear a mass outbreak of "halo sickness"
usatoday.printthis.clickabilit… — For Microsoft Xbox 360 owners, Tuesday is Opening Day - the time to skip school, call in sick or take a vacation day for the big game.
- 1396 diggs
- digg it
- obeezy, on 10/10/2007, -6/+47lol A friend just told me that he was calling in sick tomorrow. Should be pretty pack on xbox live
- DOCKAUF55, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6A beta repeat?>>>>>>Lets hope not, my internets can only be exploded once a year.
- friedcalamari, on 10/10/2007, -2/+15I’m bringing my xbox and tv set to work. If boss asks I’ll tell her “it’s a new graphical anti-virus software we are testing”.
- NinjaBoy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8Did you see me just head shot that....virus
- jdoe562, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Check out that virus I just fragged!
- nickj6282, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2As long as you don't hump the dead viruses I'm ok with it.
- doshindude, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I'll be making headshots in....Counter-Strike.
CS>Halo
- NinjaBoy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8Did you see me just head shot that....virus
- JeremyL, on 10/10/2007, -7/+106Sigh, choices choices. Career or halo.
- estvir, on 10/10/2007, -11/+78The choice is quite clear though.
Halo. - titlesaysitall, on 10/10/2007, -1/+25Finish the job!
- sk1ll2, on 10/10/2007, -2/+22Let's see... 1) Save earth from the Covenant, or 2) making sure my TPS report has a cover sheet...
- Antwan718, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Somebody's Got a case of the Mondays err Tuesdays ;)
- emehrkay, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7I dont even have the game and I thought about calling out today because of it - that's how powerful it is
- battletrax, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Choices choices. School or halo.
Fuk I dont have a choice, I stil live with my parents.
- estvir, on 10/10/2007, -11/+78The choice is quite clear though.

"Hell, boss? I just caught this nasty Flood virus. Yeah, it's pretty nasty, I'm going to have to stay home for this. If I don't make it back, tell everyone I loved them."- swiftekho, on 10/10/2007, -3/+22The scientific name for that is Covenantitis
- terminalpariah, on 10/10/2007, -3/+114I'm actually taking a vacation day on Friday instead of skipping Tuesday. This way I can get all my buddies together (they're all still in college, lucky pricks), stay up all night, drink and otherwise be totally irresponsible. The ultimate way to enjoy 4 player co-op is to conquer the thing in one day while steadily getting more and more drunk.
I'm assuming.- Tenoq, on 10/10/2007, -7/+17FTA: ""The game never gets old, because you play against different people around the world. Each time you play, it's a different experience," says Brian Robbe, 30, of Cincinnati. "Other games, after you master them you put them away on a shelf. But not Halo.""
It's kinda funny read this statement: it's like consoles finally caught up to PCs in multiplayer capabilities and now it's "OMG, WOW!!!111" I agree with cGt2009 - LAN parties FTW! Multiplayer gaming since the early '90s. :p - Clelland, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Boo-yah, the school holidays just started here in NZ. Perfect timing
- zediker, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7And thats a great way to do it too! That way when you wake up the next day, you wont recall half the game, and you can then play it again, and it will be like new! =D
- Frozenpython, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1You sir have the right game plan!
- Tenoq, on 10/10/2007, -7/+17FTA: ""The game never gets old, because you play against different people around the world. Each time you play, it's a different experience," says Brian Robbe, 30, of Cincinnati. "Other games, after you master them you put them away on a shelf. But not Halo.""
- MechaZain, on 10/10/2007, -2/+42Dugg for a creative non-review Halo 3 article.
- gwolf, on 10/10/2007, -3/+91Of course I took a vacation day. This is like a gamers super bowl that only happens once every 3 to five years.
- gutterboy, on 10/10/2007, -5/+10you mean the World Cup?
- BugMeNot2, on 10/10/2007, -3/+3"Gamer's Super Bowl" will be October 10th for me.
- SamuraiPanda, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Mine is December 3rd.
- ruddy, on 10/10/2007, -3/+94my teacher asked how many kids are going to be sick tomorrow
- estvir, on 10/10/2007, -1/+58All of them except poor Billy with his PlayStation 3.
- Volatile36, on 10/10/2007, -6/+12And all us poor saps who got suckered in by the Wii... :(
- freetyme, on 10/10/2007, -3/+10who will be gone december 3rd.
- SamuraiPanda, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Thankfully, nobody cares when you skip classes in college. Although its close to my finals...
*sigh* Finals or Smash... why would they force this decision on us?
- SamuraiPanda, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Thankfully, nobody cares when you skip classes in college. Although its close to my finals...
- Leefa, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2I didnt know you could reply this many times
- BigSax, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Apparently you can.
- Linuturk, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1I'm on the fringe of comment reality!
- Sweeper18, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0While you are on the fringe I am pushing it further and further towards the edge of nothing
- freetyme, on 10/10/2007, -3/+10who will be gone december 3rd.
- Boomh4u3r, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1Haha..Too funny
- Volatile36, on 10/10/2007, -6/+12And all us poor saps who got suckered in by the Wii... :(
- trubbleshute, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Isn't Halo 3 rated M for mature...?
- estvir, on 10/10/2007, -1/+58All of them except poor Billy with his PlayStation 3.
- opnickc, on 10/10/2007, -3/+28I scheduled my classes this year so I only have 1 class tuesday - and it's first thing in the morning when I'd normally be asleep anyway, meaning it takes nothing from my time with Halo 3.
Of course I didn't think if this when I scheduled. In fact, I didn't even have a 360. But hey, I like how it turned out.- tehpwnrate, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11Same here, man. Get up at 11, go to class, pick up my game, and play for the rest of the day. I'm almost done with my homework for the next week. Halo 3 is the only thing that can stop me from procrastinating.
- dirtyhand, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3I was actually gonna skip class tomorrow morning to get something done for work before out meeting at noon... wish I had an xbox :(
- rude0197, on 10/10/2007, -16/+7Buried as the article is NOT about employers
- RubberBinder, on 10/10/2007, -6/+41This game almost makes me want to buy a 360
- DreKor, on 10/10/2007, -14/+30...then i realized it would be ported to windows
- Torpov, on 10/10/2007, -3/+57Ported badly to the next version of Windows three years after release, you mean?
- skyfire1, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Took the words out of my mouth.
- BlackCow, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3unfortunatly its probably going to take forever!
- Rukaribe, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9I'm superior to you.
- ManOfVirtues, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Ninjas > Rukaribe

- Torpov, on 10/10/2007, -3/+57Ported badly to the next version of Windows three years after release, you mean?
- ndavisAA, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0That was the idea... Microsoft is hoping that everyone who still owns the xbox will finally upgrade to the xbox360 so they can play halo 3.
Also any XBox360s that get the 'ring of death' this month will probably not be repaired, the owner will most likely just go out and buy another one.
- DreKor, on 10/10/2007, -14/+30...then i realized it would be ported to windows
- Puffball, on 10/10/2007, -23/+5People always do this for sporting events and concerts. This isn't really news except that its Halo! And, gee, everything Halo-related is worth ***** our underwear over because its iconic and popular. And let's remember, we're skipping our paid jobs to play a shooter.
- TotalHalibut, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9Because watching grown men in pseudo-armour plating running up and down a field with a ball is a far more valid reason!
I can't believe people who use the internet can be this backwards about technology and it's impact on society. Actually I lie, yes, I can believe it.- Puffball, on 10/10/2007, -4/+2No, its not about technology, so much as you know, there's this thing called a power button. It lets you turn on a game anytime you want - so you can play Halo anytime you want - unlike a concert or sports game.
- TotalHalibut, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Yes it bloody well is about technology. It's about the advancement of electronic interactive entertainment as a serious medium that gets people just as excited as any sports game or concert. It's the advancement of society via the advancement of technology. Technology is changing our perception of the world around us and all backwards naysays want to do is whine about it. E-Luddites, the lot of them.
- MeruFM, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Also.
Tivo. - Tenoq, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3"...watching grown men in pseudo-armour plating..."
Bloody wimps. Can't even play football without armour. :p - FlyingSpaghetti, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2It's rugby with helmets and shoulder pads!
- Puffball, on 10/10/2007, -4/+2No, its not about technology, so much as you know, there's this thing called a power button. It lets you turn on a game anytime you want - so you can play Halo anytime you want - unlike a concert or sports game.
- tehpwnrate, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4***** our Halo-themed underwear.
...
I wish I could go out and buy some Master Chief boxers.- jimmy72, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I'd like a pair of Master Chief underoos.
- mike81890, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2The reason this is getting some much media is because as you said, "People always do this for sporting events and concerts.", but this hasn't really happened before in the Video game Industry.
- TotalHalibut, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9Because watching grown men in pseudo-armour plating running up and down a field with a ball is a far more valid reason!
- sodascape, on 10/10/2007, -4/+10just remember, no job, no money to buy games..
- estvir, on 10/10/2007, -4/+3There are other ways to 'acquire' funds and games.
- Dgen_X, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3which is exactly why I'm going in to work today....really really tired from only getting 3 hours of sleep
- nickj6282, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I was going to do the same, but then I got to the beginning of stage 4 of the campaign, and realized I was kind of bored with it. I figured I'd better go to bed so I can play while actually awake and hopefully enjoy it.
Is it just me, or was stage two kind of boring and repetitive?
- nickj6282, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I was going to do the same, but then I got to the beginning of stage 4 of the campaign, and realized I was kind of bored with it. I figured I'd better go to bed so I can play while actually awake and hopefully enjoy it.
- Defuser, on 10/10/2007, -45/+6If you're taking a day off to play a First Person Shooter, you should consider doing the world a favor an step out in front of traffic. I cannot believe that the "run around with a big gun and shoot things" crowd is STILL around, and still grunting about how awesome games like Halo are. It's a friggin' FPS, people. It's like getting excited over a new version of Donkey Kong.
- pronouncable, on 10/10/2007, -3/+12Except not.
- HUKI365, on 10/10/2007, -4/+14So what do you get excited about, sir? Trashing other people on Digg?
- BlackCow, on 10/10/2007, -1/+13nothing wrong with getting excited for something, some people skip work/school to see movies to.
- mtrip, on 10/10/2007, -1/+15Dude, if a new version of Donkey Kong came out, I would view that as something worth getting exited about. I don't see how that's a good example of a problem.
- duddles, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Yeah, all the donkey kong games were great! Even donkey kong 64 was a lot of fun. When is the next one?
- Volatile36, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Even that bongos one? :/
- duddles, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Yeah, all the donkey kong games were great! Even donkey kong 64 was a lot of fun. When is the next one?
- tdhurst, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5IS there a new version of Donkey Kong coming out? I'll save up my vacation days!
Defuser, shut it. - GUTTS, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3haterade anyone?
- Echuta, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Heh I'm not taking the day off...I didn't even buy Halo 3. But I can understand why people do this. Personally I work to live, not the other way around. If your job is consuming your life then it better be your dream job, otherwise your priorities in life are askew. I don't mean they should be about video games but sheesh take the tie of once in awhile.
- FullMetalMonkey, on 10/10/2007, -2/+23I'm calling it the "Halo Rapture"
- DrivebyGroper, on 10/10/2007, -2/+37I was going to take a day off work, but then my fiancee "gently" reminded me that I need to save all my vacation time for the honeymoon. DAMN YOU, HONEYMOON!!!@
- TheNik, on 10/10/2007, -2/+18She shouldn't be questioning you. If you don't hit her and demand her cook something (she needs something to do) it's only a downward slope from there. :(
- DrivebyGroper, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10Yeah, I don't think so. She has a history of bringing the fire department to the place when she's cooking things WITHOUT me hitting her. If I hit her, she'd probably create some sort of FEMA-summoning meal.
- nickj6282, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Yeah, but it'd be weeks before FEMA showed up, by then you'd be sitting on the roof with a half bottle of dasani and a pack of crackers to eat.
But I understand. My wife isn't allowed to cook. It's scary ***** when she does.
- nickj6282, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Yeah, but it'd be weeks before FEMA showed up, by then you'd be sitting on the roof with a half bottle of dasani and a pack of crackers to eat.

- h4rdcor3, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8Halo or sex? which is better?
- Nidy1, on 10/10/2007, -1/+21Sex with Cortana.
- friedcalamari, on 10/10/2007, -3/+6roflmao u win
- akimbo, on 10/10/2007, -5/+1Have fun playing in luminous air (In response to Nidy1)
- nickj6282, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Last night I got both!
Best night evar!
- Nidy1, on 10/10/2007, -1/+21Sex with Cortana.
- GUTTS, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8Masterchief is dissapointed in you, son.
- SeBBBe, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Vacation? VACATION? This is a case of Halo sickness! You need to stay home sick.
- TheNik, on 10/10/2007, -2/+18She shouldn't be questioning you. If you don't hit her and demand her cook something (she needs something to do) it's only a downward slope from there. :(
- WraTH017, on 10/10/2007, -26/+4Feeding the Hype Machine. Who gives a crap if a bunch of shut ins skip school or their job at Wendy's to play Halo? This is not news.Buried as lame.
- TotalHalibut, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10Yes, cultural phenomena are not news. It's only news if it involves invading Islamic countries for oil.
- Antwan718, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1OR huge corporations making billions off of taxpayer money
dam it M$ fell under one of those categories- TotalHalibut, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2There's a difference between someone willingly handing over their money as a customer, and being robbed blind of it by the government ;)

- GUTTS, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4"Feeding the Hype Machine. Who gives a crap if a bunch of shut ins skip school or their job at Wendy's to play Halo? This is not news.Buried as lame."
Yet you clicked on article anyway, thinking that we'd give two ***** about your downer ass opinion? Shut-ins and Wendy's aside, you sir shouldn't propagate.
- TotalHalibut, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10Yes, cultural phenomena are not news. It's only news if it involves invading Islamic countries for oil.
- Rizin, on 10/10/2007, -6/+37Hehe, Half my school is gonna be absent tomorrow. Of course I go to an IT high school....and everyone is a total geek......and even the teachers are gonna be absent...
Hell just make it a National Holiday and get it over with >_>- Treshnell, on 10/10/2007, -0/+26Any decent geek-teacher would just say 'bring your 360's and tvs to class...'
- Rizin, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4They are just as lazy as us since my school isnt that old and they are all like 23-28
- Antwan718, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Last year my Web Design Final was Mario Kart 64 on an Emulator Lan ;)
- Treshnell, on 10/10/2007, -0/+26Any decent geek-teacher would just say 'bring your 360's and tvs to class...'
- RidiculousHat, on 10/10/2007, -4/+8Oddly enough, this is the widespread acceptance that videogaming has wanted for so long. The Halo effect combined with the Wii's popularity among nongamers might make this generation of video game consoles the first wave to break through to the general public. I'm not sure if I'm excited or horrified.
- dasdef, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3i'm excited... cuz yaaaay halo 3 is finally out!
- goeatsmsht, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Be afraid, be very afraid.....
- adml_shake, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12we had about 5 guys in my department put in vacation day requests as soon as the release date came out. They got approved, and it wasn't untill about a week ago that the boss man put 2 and 2 together and figured out what was going on. He wasn't happy, but theres nothing that says they can't take a vacation day or 2 (or however many they want) for something like this.
- Ebacherville, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Just say the launch on G4 tv in NYC, Microsoft really played it up , quads flying down the street and a hummer done up as a halo vehical.. Very cool for the people that were there.. Id never call in sick for a game but i did take a day off for the launch of the 360 and camped out for it , it was one of the funnest things i have done with out moving more and a few feet romthe same spot .. it was a experience..
- ZenMojo, on 10/10/2007, -9/+7140 million workers, 1.2 million copies of Halo on preorder...hm...overexaggerate much?
- suppaibeg, on 10/10/2007, -3/+10Shhhh, you don't want to derail the magical Halo hype train now do you???
- Firehed, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6I didn't preorder, but I'll still be getting a copy within the next few days. You can bet that I'm not alone. You can also bet that a ton of (if not the majority of) preorders were from people who don't have full-time jobs, i.e. students.
So, basically, your numbers are worthless. - BlogEx, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Since when did preorder=total sales?
- Koldkompress, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Yes but, you need to narrow the amount of workers down to a more specific area of jobs. For example, the IT Industry will see more people taking days off to play Halo than, for example, a coal mine. So while 1 in 50 IT workers might leave to play Halo 3, only 1 in 200 miners will take the day off to play Halo 3
- pwnies, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Also, don't forget that most of the people who will be absent are going to be IT guys. Thus if anything on the network breaks and no sysadmin is there, then the workers are probably going to leave anyway.
A workplace without techies is no workplace at all. - pwnies, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Also, don't forget that most of the people who will be absent are going to be IT guys. Thus if anything on the network breaks and no sysadmin is there, then the workers are probably going to leave anyway.

- nakile, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2I too get the feeling that were going to have a mass epidemic tomorrow.
But it isn't a virus, it's Halo 3! - Synn, on 10/10/2007, -0/+18Halo is to America what Dragon Quest is to Japan.
I wonder what that says about our cultures.- YouRookies, on 10/10/2007, -5/+4Another observation is that RTS and Fighting games are huge in Asia but not as popular here in the US.
Easy to pick up FPS = $$$ in US
Noob friendly games = 0 in Japan- Brad324, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3pokemon?
- Tenoq, on 10/10/2007, -3/+3Not sure why you're getting dugg down. You're right. Western culture prefers the 'shoot lots of *****' games over games that require thinking. Consider games like FF and how successful that is compared to Doom, Quake, etc.
- navster15, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Wait wait wait. You consider Final Fantasy to be a thinking man's game? The Tactics series, I'll give you that, but the numbered Final Fantasy's require only one thing: mindless grinding. Hell, this is true for pretty much any JRPG. I'm not saying they're not fun, but you are kidding yourself if you actually think they are more intellectual than Half Life of Halo. Don't for a second think that Americans hold the monopoly on buying stupid *****.
- GUTTS, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1moral of the story here i guess is, shoot first ask questions last?
- blackacre, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1This is one situation in which I would not try to break from tradition.
- YouRookies, on 10/10/2007, -5/+4Another observation is that RTS and Fighting games are huge in Asia but not as popular here in the US.
- VeggieSoup, on 10/10/2007, -11/+1I sure if halo fans skip school and work we will see a massive spike in productivity. It would be what the world would be like if all the idiots died.
- badjoke, on 10/10/2007, -1/+22When Half-Life 2 came out I just played all night and napped in the nurse's office at school with a "headache."
- Stucky101, on 10/10/2007, -12/+2I'm still thinking of telling my teachers I have the "Halo flue". I need a ride in order to get the game, and I don't know if my mom will willingly let me skip school and then take me to Best Buy to buy Halo.
- Macshiba, on 10/10/2007, -1/+16You're the kind of kid who needs to stay in school, grow up, and learn what a job is. Then get a job, then get a car, and then quit worrying about video games and your Mom having to take you to get it.
- xstarsprinklesx, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9Go to school until you've learned to properly spell the name of your fake sickness and can drive yourself to the store to buy the game with your own money.
- Firehed, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8Let me warn you: Best Buy makes you show ID for M-rated games. So not only will you need your parent to let you take the day off and then drive you to best buy, but she'll also need to buy the game.
If she goes for that, please call Child Services immediately. - Stucky101, on 10/10/2007, -10/+0Holy *****!! The digg community is no fun! I'm a very intelligent kid I'll have you know (regardless, i don't have the best spelling). I'm a sophomore, and if I had difficult to make up classes on Tuesday I'd never even consider skipping. Also, the thought that a kid can watch the violence infested news without ppl freaking out, then play a violent video game and ppl go ballistic is just plain stupid. So why don't you guys stop being ignorant.
- titlesaysitall, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8I banish thee back to the nether realm of Myspace and recharge my mana!
- Nobi-Wan, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11I bet you're the same kid who raised his hand in class when the teacher forgot to give everyone a pop quiz.
- HBNDonut, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5I like turtles!
- lacronicus, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2As a senior in high school, i can only say to you this: Grow up. I have a copy waiting for me at BB with a 50" at home and a brand new xbox to play it on. the anticipation is killing me, but i never even thought about skipping school. In all seriousness, however funny this is, its stupid for someone to actually do. As a sophomore, you have more important things to worry about than halo.
- YouRookies, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6I can't call in sick. My boss is a big Halo fan. =/
- razorswc, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Maybe you two can play co-op tomorrow at work
- VelvetoneFusion, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10His boss will be to busy at home, playing Halo
- YouRookies, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Turns out he is out today. WTF =/

- Notluf, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9I can't call in, my local 7/11 doesn't have it in stock like the manager promised. A small fight broke out from the people that pre-ordered it and they don't have it.
- blimey85, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6I would like a slushie, maybe one of those gross looking hot dogs over there, and oh, give me a copy of Halo. WTF?
Of all the stores that will have Halo 3 tonight you picked 7/11? I laughed when I was in there (for a slushie and a gross looking hot dog) and saw they were going to be selling Halo tonight. Getting mine at Game Stop. - skyfire1, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Pure lulz.

- soot, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1I'm staying home tomorrow, but not for Halo 3.. I don't even have a 360.
Though I might just stop over at Target and see if there are any in stock anyway.. And if I'm willing to dip into my credit to pick a system up before my next paycheck... Ugh, ***** Halo.- duddles, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8Your post has left me feeling very confused.
- Rileyper, on 10/10/2007, -2/+20How will the bullies get their lunch money tomorrow...don't skip school support your local bully
- ShinobiFAS, on 10/10/2007, -9/+4wow I'm a huge game addict and even this is too nerdy for me..
- TotalHalibut, on 10/10/2007, -2/+11Then you are not a huge game addict, amateur.
- blimey85, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6You're not truly a huge game addict until you game for three days and die. Then and only then can you call yourself this. Death or it doesn't count!
- TotalHalibut, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Correct sir! Only the truly hardcore can call themselves game addicts! Now hook up the Mountain Dew drip!

- politik192, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4now I see why my econ professor said he was going to North Carolina for the week...hmm...
- CerMakAlot, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2"Remember there is NO CLASS next week 9/25. Thus, all work is not due until Tuesday October 2, 5:59pm. ENJOY your time off! Dr.Dakotah"
My philosophy professor gave us the week off starting the 25th. Random. Or is it?
- CerMakAlot, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2"Remember there is NO CLASS next week 9/25. Thus, all work is not due until Tuesday October 2, 5:59pm. ENJOY your time off! Dr.Dakotah"
- arenyth, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10My school has a Faculty Professional Day tomorrow... coincidence?
- MiDri, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I think not!
- scairborn, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6I serve in Japan and all the military were waiting outside the doors of the Base Exchange from 8am to 9am... Supervisors we're having their Airmen goto the BX to buy copies for them and their co-workers so the mission didn't stop. The BX was sold out of their allotment by 9:01
- Soniti, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Which base? I'm in Japan too, but my friend didn't have a problem getting me a copy at 9 (I'm at work..@_@).. Yokota AFB- and you?
- FlyingSpaghetti, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6ALL YOUR BASE ARE BELONG TO US!
- blimey85, on 10/10/2007, -3/+2It just happened to work out that there isn't much for me to do at work this week so I took a vacation day for tomorrow. Then I realized hours later how nice this is going to work out.
Halo 3 ftw! - ydt89, on 10/10/2007, -4/+5I liked how the writer just stuck a bunch of quotes together and called it a story.
- TotalHalibut, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Not entirely unlike.. oh I dunno.. a newspaper!
- Rapter09, on 10/10/2007, -1/+14I work in a senior technical department with about 25 other people. At least 8 of those people have had their vacation planned for this specific reason. Yesterday was a cesspool of standing up, leaning over the cube and yelling: "HEY, YOU GONNA BE ON XBOX LIVE TOMORROW?!?!"
- Shelter22, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1'senior' technical department huh... anyone who says they are senior, even if they are, are almost always douche bags
- demizer, on 10/10/2007, -14/+4Halo is gay. The first two sucked, this one will suck. I'd rather do math, which in fact, is what I will be doing tomorrow. Have fun on "Oh no! I just got Halo at 7-11, but my box gave me the ring of death" day.
- Boomh4u3r, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2You fail
- drummy41, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1You're just mad you have a PS3 and can't play anything fun.
- zdiddy85, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Teaching at a tech school has its benefits. My coworker let me take off 30 minutes to go pick up my Legendary Edition. Now I'm furiously trying to wear this helmet...
- charlestoN1, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2duh. i AM sick ;)
- Firehed, on 10/10/2007, -6/+5Put it this way: is it worth it to you to lose a day's pay to play a video game? I don't get paid a ton (well I don't get paid anything right now as I'm between jobs, but as of two weeks ago or probably a week from now...), and the answer is definitely "no". I'm sure it'll be great, but seriously...
- Kolenka, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4It is when you don't lose the day's pay. If you are lucky enough to make it into the corporate world, you get paid vacation and other paid leave benefits. My own particular company provides floating holidays (2 a year) to account for people who have religious holidays and the like beyond the normal bank holidays that are given off each year. You use them or you lose them. Considering I am also going to be sitting on a week's leave by the end of the year for Christmas and Thanksgiving, and at least one floating holiday (both of which I need to use by the end of the year or lose them)... I don't see the harm in burning a day of paid leave as long as taking the day doesn't majorly screw with what you promised to deliver to your bosses.
- BillyMcEvoy20, on 10/10/2007, -1/+17taking off work.. I'm dropping out of college
Beat that bitches.- skyfire1, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10I'm getting a divorce and I will my family I'm gay.

- deadlove75, on 10/10/2007, -7/+2It's just a video game. True, it's very entertaining and probably one of the better video games of all time. But it's just a video game.
- Santabot, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3Some underclassman jerkoff who hates life (or loves Halo) wrote "Columbine ------ High 9/25/07 9AM" on a ***** graphing calculator and now the entire school is skipping due to fear of getting shot + why the hell not? haha
- havokzero, on 10/10/2007, -5/+12Here's a word from the wise: Go to school, get your damn homework done, THEN pick up the game. One week of little-to-no effort at school won't just ***** up your grades, it will ***** up your health and social life. If you're a college student, don't even think about participating in this foolishness... you're getting too old to do such irresponsible things. If you're a high school student, well... buy a pack of Bawls and head over to my place! WOOT!!
- ripple123, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1Go to school go to college get a job get a mortgage spawn some kids raise kids retire die. Get back in your box, square.
- Philbert, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1"you're getting too old to do such irresponsible things"
You got that right. Heck two weeks ago I built a new computer and the video card came with a copy of Lost Planet, which I understand isn't half bad. I've been too busy with work to even install it though.
- fakesinatra, on 10/10/2007, -3/+77Women get maternity leave. Men should get gaming leave.
It's only fair.- tblasko, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2you know your comment was good when it's at the very bottom of the thread and has 24+votes
- Keiera, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10I'm a woman, screw maternity leave, I want gaming leave...
- MiDri, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2If you screwed, you could get maternity leave and had you planned this 4 some odd months ago be playing Halo3 with your prego ass right now.
- Wildog27, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I got 2 weeks paternity leave when my son was born.
- usrlocalbin, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Amen, brother. AMEN!!!
- GodIsntReal, on 10/10/2007, -8/+4They shouldn't have to worry with the high failure rate of the 360's.
- thewisethetrue, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3Awesome, like the good old days of true gaming!!!
- JengoPop, on 10/10/2007, -3/+0Finally Finally Halo is Here! I'm skipping work!
What do you think is the greatest video game of all time? Halo, Tetris, Space Invaders, Super Mario Bros, Pac Man, Zelda?
