- Gizza, on 09/03/2008, -1/+55It's because they release about 500 games a year and 499 of them are complete *****.
- theNazz, on 09/03/2008, -1/+31How quickly is You Tube going to regret the video posting feature? I can see it now... 15,000 videos of variations of Dickosaurs and Vulvarians...
Good luck to EA and You Tube! You're going to need it.
=P - m00n1, on 09/03/2008, -0/+29Wait, EA make The Sims which, as I understand it is by a HUGE margin the best selling game series ever. And they made a lose six quarters selling zillions of copies of a game they finished making ages ago?
What I want to know is, are they snorting coke off prostitutes backsides with rolled up $100 bills? And if so, where is their careers page? - dunezone, on 09/03/2008, -2/+26Not to be a bummer. The pirated version is out there and I played that version for about 5 hours today. Unless this version is missing a lot of features, this game is in trouble. It seriously lacks any form of decent game play.
You have five stages. The first is the cell stage, it takes about 20-25 minutes. There isn't much to it, you go around and simply run into creatures to kill them and evolve by either eating them and/or eating plants. Its very very simple. The next step is on land and you are a creature of how you built from water to land. Oh yeah, there is no transition, you simply just evolve to land. But the second part feels like a very watered down MMORPG style of game play, and takes the longest to complete. The third and fourth part are identical to each other except for the fact the third part you are a tribe with primitive weapons and you fight over local territory, the fourth you are a civilization or country fighting over the world but not much separates these two parts. The fifth part is where you conquer and explore planets has a lot of depth my only issue is the fact I was already bummed out by the first four stages that the fifth was more of a chore of seeing if it wasn't any different and I gave up 20 minutes into it.
As for making stuff, yeah, they added a ***** load of content that's not in the creature creator but it doesn't save the game. I wrote my one sentence review based on this, "Its amazing what you can make in the game but its amazing how little you can do with it."
Now the interesting thing is, you can approach the game with different methods, you can be social or very aggressive and this shapes what your creature is. Unfortunately, there isn't much difference between these two. Even though you are a social and passive creature you still need to construct arms and still have to go to war with creatures that are naturally aggressive. And this wouldn't be so bad if the battles weren't so basic. The RTS elements don't even match the quality of the original C&C, the AI is laughable, and the amount of different units you can construct is pretty bad, you can spend your time constructing 50 different tanks, but you can easily get the job done with 1 type.
The graphics are sub par. The creatures look amazing but when the environment they run around in looks like PS2 game it just destroys the atmosphere.
The game was fun for the first 2 hours but once you get about 20 minutes into the fourth stage you realize the game is just repeating itself and is not very fun. I know the game has been delayed multiple times, but they should have taken another 18 months to develop some decent game play cause it seriously feels like they added more production time for game content and cut it short on game play. The concept is neat and I think should be explored but everything else falls short on delivery.
I really feel bad for people who spent $60 on this cause its not even close to being finished at all. - CKR600, on 09/03/2008, -0/+23Umm, it's already out on a few trackers... is it 5 days until release? yea that's no good for EA.
- mdoom, on 09/03/2008, -2/+19PC gaming has always been superior and will always be superior...where have you been?
- aznhomig, on 09/03/2008, -1/+16Well, if EA would stop pushing deadlines on developers for arbitrary release dates to keep up with their corporate schedule, and the final release ends up not being buggy that wouldn't require multitudes of patches and band-aids to make it remotely playable, then maybe.
- MetricLobster, on 09/03/2008, -2/+17Quote Gizza
It's because they release about 500 games a year and 499 of them are complete *****. - dhVyse, on 09/03/2008, -1/+13Not having multi-player isn't good for Spore either..
- ELCad, on 09/02/2008, -2/+10Early 80s? Not likely. They could not have even handled the colors back then, much less the 3D.
- RoccoMcTaco, on 09/03/2008, -2/+10Or you can do the trial and if you like it you can buy it.
- mta3d, on 09/03/2008, -0/+8TF2 is the best gaming value ever imo. i payed $30 but now for $20 its even better. such a polished, updated and balanced - and fun - game for a fair price. also you can be as hardcore as you want or play for 20 minutes its fun either way.
- inactive, on 09/03/2008, -0/+8I bet he's a penis monster.
- bjornski, on 09/03/2008, -1/+9I'm sick to death of shooters, and the RTS games are getting too frenetic for my old ass to keep up with (I can't fight off a zerg rush in the first 5 minutes of a game).
Spore will probably be more my speed. I love the "god" games. - t4m5t3r, on 09/03/2008, -0/+7"So upset with EA after annoucing Mercenaries 2 would be 2 player coop offline and that rushing it out as only a one player and online multi-player game."
you see this is why EA lose money, thats pretty much every game they'v released they promise online COOP, only to release the game unfinished broken and mossing the main feature people are buying it for, but EA have been releasing the same gamnes for years, just reskinned, every battlefield since BF2 has BEEN BF2 with new skins, not even a difference in weapons, command and conquer, again same game reskinned, even the latest one is pretty much the same as all the others, just a little shinier.
Atleast i know not to buy mercs 2, which i was going to get at the end of the week when it came out, sorry EA, you want to release *****, i'll get it from a torrent site!! LOL, so that way when i find you have falsely advertised you crap game AGAIN, i can simply delete the garbage, no money lost!!
** and thanks "mycutepetpicsmycutepetpics" i would have just bought mercs 2 if you hadnt mentioned it!! saved me £35!!** - Shiftyeyedgoat, on 09/03/2008, -0/+7Doesn't EA have the Madden franchise? They literally throw a new roster list in each year and touch the graphics up to fit the current gen. This is a giant cash cow. It is not the only game that is in their sports arsenal that does this.
How in the HELL have they lost money for a year and a half? - fdelucio, on 09/03/2008, -3/+10@ledmatriz I bet you look just like my creatures, I mean you must be retarded
- Metasquares, on 09/03/2008, -0/+7It's a pity about the DRM. I doubt I'll be buying it.
- Totz83, on 09/03/2008, -0/+6I was really looking forward to the release of Spore, until EA went down the route of saying it's "the new Sims", which is the most anti-climatic description they could have possibly used.
- dsmx, on 09/03/2008, -0/+6They sold poorly because both games were great concepts that didn't live up to the hype.
- arcooke, on 09/03/2008, -0/+6I agree completely. I too just finished playing for about 5 or 6 hours. I got to the part where you can finally start exploring other planets (I spent a lot of time just messing around in the previous stages). By that point, I was just getting bored with the game. Considering how complex this game is, it's surprising how little replay value there is. I thought this would be a game that let you branch out and do different things based on how you play the game.. and that's not the case at all. Yes, you can either be social or aggressive, but the end goal is the same and it doesn't matter which route you take. Each takes the same amount of time and the difference in gameplay is very minimal.
I was extremely anxious to try this one out and I almost pre-ordered it. I'm SO glad I didn't. The only thing I don't agree with you about 100% is the graphics, I thought the environments looked fine.
I'm probably uninstalling it tomorrow. Major letdown. - Raingwc, on 09/03/2008, -0/+6A friend of a friend of a friend played it all night last night and am now way too tired to study oO
- bonjourmr, on 09/03/2008, -1/+7They record losses because their main expenditure is other ***** game companies. Who they, some reasons yet unknown, seem to want to drive into the ground with stupidly early and buggy releases.
- Kazaki, on 09/03/2008, -2/+8Good job. You're really representing the torrent movement well, proving to them that we're not hypocrites.
I applaud you. - chaos7, on 09/03/2008, -0/+6don't buy it and let them not make money some more. hopefully their stock declines and they go out of business.

- 13373h4X0r, on 09/03/2008, -1/+6Having looked at the various demonstration videos, and having played with the Spore creature creator, I don't think the game will be fun to play. Yes, creating creatures is amusing, for a time. And I can imagine how the RTS nature of the game might be fun for people who are fans of the WarCraft, etc, for a while. But...I simply don't see a really compelling aspect of game play that will keep people interested in the long term.
I always like to see more innovation in games, especially in this era when developers and publishers are so scared of taking risks. So, I would be sad if Spore failed in the marketplace and people in the industry took that as another indication that INNOVATION was to blame.
Well, I suspect that Spore will enjoy some success simply due to the -- what? -- several years of hype? Also, I think a lot of people will buy it because of their imaginations of how cool the game "promises" to be, fueled by images of the game play they've seen in the videos. But I think the game will have a rapid fizzle factor. If people resist pre-ordering the game, and if people wait for a couple of weeks after the game's debut before making a purchasing decision, I think sober reviews about the longevity of the game's fun factor (I'm guessing mere days) might very well dissuade people from buying the game.
I might very wrong. But have you ever watched a movie preview in a theater and immediately and instinctively known that the film would be a total flop upon its release? Have you wondered how in the world so many people involved in the production of that film could possibly have allowed the stupid idea to see the light of a film projector and the silver screen? Why didn't anyone tell the boss that the idea is idiotic? How did these people become so isolated from their target audience that they would think their idea would be appealing to that audience? Anyhow, while I don't think Spore was made possible by a cult of "yes men" and a lack of market analysis or a lack of play testing, etc, I have my doubts about the whole idea.
I'm prepared for the possibility that my instinct is entirely wrong about Spore. I am ready to be mocked, years after Spore's release, when the mass addiction to Spore is so ridiculous that people get body prosthetics to look like their Spore creations and the world shifts to a Spore based economy, and geneticists find a way to translate game creations in to real living organisms... I am ready for my prediction to be showcased as an example of how narrow minded and wrong someone can be when trying to make predictions. So, I'm not afraid to commit to the prediction that Spore will not be fun for anyone for more than a few days. LOL! We'll see... (I think I'd be scared to put money on my prediction, if that's any indication of my uncertainty.) - martin308, on 09/03/2008, -1/+6Was planning on buying Spore but not with securom, will have to obtain a better copy of it elsewhere....
- Cockslap, on 09/03/2008, -1/+6EA Great at sports? I'm gonna have to digg you down for that.
- l31101, on 09/03/2008, -1/+5The game is not as deep as i hoped it to be. It's fairly straight forward. It's a pretty good strategy game, but i don't know if it lives up to the hype.
- nottheonlychris, on 09/03/2008, -0/+4Release date was broken here in Australia and it came out yesterday
- phuzzy3d, on 09/03/2008, -0/+4Pictures don't qualify as a Trial.
- Railoc, on 09/03/2008, -0/+4SimCity 4 sold pretty badly compared to The Sims. Even with all this media exposure I doubt Spore will do well outside hardcore gamers.
- inactive, on 09/03/2008, -0/+4Trial for my patience here.
- WoWii, on 09/03/2008, -4/+8Warhammer will save them.
- halogenik, on 09/03/2008, -1/+5They've been losing money for 6 quarters because they've been pumping more money into buying out other companies than anything else.
- Beylan, on 09/09/2008, -0/+3Burn in a fire, EA!
- evetsleep, on 09/03/2008, -0/+3You actually CAN see it now. Just go to YouTube and type in Spore and you'll get thousands of penis monsters. Some better then others of course.
- Epik, on 09/03/2008, -2/+5The concept is pretty cool and the creature creator was a bit of fun. But I can tell you right now I've got no interested in buying this game.
TF2 was a great buy. I'll also buy Starcraft 2, Diablo III, and maybe one of the scarier PC shooters later this year. But Spore? Meh. - smashhell, on 09/03/2008, -0/+3EA paids them, EA boss them around with close release dates and stuff because don't want to spend that much. Therefore unfinished games, Not that hard to understand.
- Norochj, on 09/03/2008, -0/+3Exactly. I would still have purchased it if they weren't pulling this crap about 3 installs. Instead, I will be forced to wait until they wise up and remove that "feature" before I can play it.
- TheUngod, on 09/03/2008, -0/+2I have to agree with the great sentence "Its amazing what you can make in the game but its amazing how little you can do with it." The concept is great, and maybe they plan on releasing loads of expansion packs, but the game isn't what I expected. I was thinking you could control a world and the creatures would change based on that. Instead you control a creature and...your creature evolves based on what you do? The world is not as linked to your actions as they led you to believe.
This reminds me of the release of Fable. - Katana314, on 09/03/2008, -0/+2Man...this is what I was worried about. They hyped up all the content creation, but then I've always worried about what you can DO with that content. This is why I don't pre-order games anymore. If even SPORE can be a let-down, then I don't know what to expect. Heck, maybe I won't pre-order Half-Life 2 Episode Three.
- geoffreyireland, on 09/03/2008, -0/+2The game is mad boring.
Penis monsters or not. - MWeather, on 09/03/2008, -0/+2Chrome is open source and has a plugin system. There will be an adblocker within a few months.
- YokohamaGaijin, on 09/03/2008, -0/+2I'm waiting to see SOMETHING worthwhile from this other than putting 4 asses on a monkey. That would be really cool. The only thing cooler would be an 5 assed monkey!
http://archives.volitionwatch.com/download/fs1mod/ ...
Seriously though, I cannot fathom playing this for more than a few hours. There needs to be at least 24 hours of fun to be had to justify this kind of cost. - Nicholas77, on 09/09/2008, -0/+2Spore is pretty good for kids.
- Iceman1313, on 09/10/2008, -0/+2secuROM = no purchase for me, I don't need to spend hours trying to fix my computer after installation
- ripple123, on 09/03/2008, -2/+4the first part of your comment was ok, but then i suddenly lost interested.
