- Zuggy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+27Hopefully, the PS3 doesn't become like HDTV.
The developers
"We'll release games when more people buy a PS3"
The consumers
"We'll buy a PS3 when there are more games" - MaynardJK, on 10/12/2007, -7/+26Phillips made the CD-i.
- chocobomog, on 10/12/2007, -5/+22You forgot the first part of that sentence:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cd-i
"CD-i also refers to the multimedia Compact Disc standard utilized by the CD-i console which was co-developed by Philips and Sony in 1986"
Sony developed the disc standard much like they developed the Blu-Ray disc standard. Phillips developed and produced the CD-i proper.
Plus the CD-i was a multimedia device in 1991 and had very little to do with video games:
"CD-i format focused heavily on educational, music, and self-improvement titles, with only a handful of video games, many of them adaptations of board games like "Connect Four". The environment now is very different and much more receptive to a $600 multimedia system than 15 years ago. It's like stating you won't buy WoW because the online video game you bought in 1991 failed miserably.
The CD-i only sold 500,000 units in 7 years before being discontinued. The PS3 has sold 6 times that amount in 5 months and is still growing. There's not much to compare between the two. - Sparke, on 10/12/2007, -7/+23The PS3 has worldwide sales equal to or better than the Xbox 360 did at the same point last year. The 360 didn't really take off until good games like Oblivion and Gears of War came out.
I expect sales for PS3 to ramp up when Home, LittleBigPlanet, Lair, MGS, Heavenly Sword, and GTA (Yes, I know, not exclusive), come out later this year. It will only get better when FF13, White Knight Story and Gran Turismo come out next year.
That said, I want all 3 major consoles to succeed. It's better for the industry and gamers in general. - PhoenixAvatar2, on 10/12/2007, -9/+20@wageslaven:
I don't need another lecture on how the PS3 will fail, thank you very much. - RoroCo, on 10/12/2007, -5/+16So the industry leader in current gen boxes is "last in the race so far." Nice logic. I know they got a 12 car length head start, but they are still in front as of now.
- bangbangblah, on 10/12/2007, -5/+16Can't wait to get my hands on the OC video game
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11This makes ZERO SENSE.
- larsoncc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Wow.
The linked story tells you WHAT will be delayed by this move as a result, too! (assuming they're making games based on the licenses they just acquired)
"SCi also has the right to produce up to ten games based on Hanna-Barbera characters including Tom and Jerry, the Flintstones, Wacky Races and Yogi Bear, plus titles based on DC Comics's Batman character and hit TV show The OC.
In addition, SCi has acquired the licenses for animated TV programmes Loonatics Unleashed and Legion of Super Heroes. " - Eallan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9I've played the Wii, camped out for one even.
In my ever so humble opinion after playing it (well, for a little and basically leaving it off for 3 months) there is absolutely NO WAY i would give up my 360 before my Wii.
I'm tired of Nintendo's rehashed franchises and I'm extremely tired of ***** ports with lame ass controls tacked on. I want Nights and thats it.
p.s. I'll be getting a PS3 with my tax refund. - MoeB, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12When was the last time Eidos made any game that was worth paying money for?
- InfinitySnatch, on 10/12/2007, -6/+14"I still say that Sony will end up closing their video game operations by January 1, 2008."
For lack of a more civil phrase: "You're ***** retarded." - ScionX, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8@ Moeb
Doesnt Eidos make the Hitman series? That game was well worth my spending money. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11Its not in last place because the 360 has a ton of games to play on it unlike PS3.
- michaelb1, on 10/12/2007, -5/+10I don't like the arrogance of this companies strategy. I don't think I will buy any of their games even when they do eventually release them.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7I predict the Wii will die due to lack of more minigames by January 2008 and Nintendo will permanently close their doors in shame.
See? We have 2 moronic predictions in one thread. I think we should start our own magazine. - chris9902, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7talk about building a sand castle with a bulldozer.
- staticneuron, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Kevin45 you are the moast anti PS3 person I have ever seen in my life? Do you own a PS3? Have you really played these games or just regurgitate what you have read on some fansite somewhere?
GTHD is pretty much GT4 with HD textures.... doesn't stop it from being fun and doesn't make it any less gorgeous. Flow depends on taste, I just fired it up this weekend and was having a blast with it.... maybe its just me, I still play geometry wars on my 360 as well. And as far as motorstorm goes....yeah.... you can say 8 tracks... But that is downplaying how HUGE these tracks are and the multiple paths you can take.
Just own up to your bias instead of having to be called out on it. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5*cries*
I want a new Legacy of Kain game T_T...the series still isnt over.. - michaelb1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3OC: Armageggon would be easy. You just target the credit card companies then watch all the OC people schrivel and die.
- bangbangblah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@kevin 45
dude, what are you talking about? That argument doesn't work anymore! Maybe PS3 only has 2 or 3 really good exclusives, but including non-exclusives, they've got a pretty good wide array of games, and more ports just keep coming out. Did you even pay attention to all of the PS3 games that have launched in the past month? - bangbangblah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3You're only giving the PS3 9 more months before shutting down operation? You think they'd give up after a year? C'mon they've already almost sold 3 million consoles, they're not doing THAT poorly. That's probably one of the dumbest statements I've seen on Digg.
- Korexz, on 10/12/2007, -10/+12Im not going to lecture on what Sony has done wrong... all I need to say is Content > Technology:
http://www.korexz.com/2006/11/18/new-argument-content-technology/
As companies hold back games from the PS3 until installed user bases grow to acceptable levels there will be massive quantities of PS3's on store shelves.
Namco admitted a while back that in order for a game to be profitable they need to sell 2M copies. That is pretty hard to do when your installed user base is 2.8M.
I still say that Sony will end up closing their video game operations by January 1, 2008. Which leaves MS and Nintendo to duke it out. I am putting my money on the underdog and saying that the Wii will take this generation over...
Sony fanboys digg me down, but unless you have played the Wii, and thought about how a FPS or even an RPG (like maybe DIABLO 3 on the Wii) could benefit from what the Wii has to offer, don't bother. - apoc06, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2to give you some perspective. did you know that burnout revenge only had 8 tracks?
did that game suck? nope! does motorstorm suck? nope! lets not forget that motorstorm also allows for downloadable content. so in the end who knows how many tracks will be available?
maybe you should try playing ps3 games before knocking them. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3"Im not going to lecture on what Sony has done wrong... all I need to say is Content > Technology:"
Yes, and that's exactly why Blu-ray will prevail. Buy your Blu-ray equipped PS3 right now. - staticneuron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2BTW Mr. Digipen, It is more evident that you are batting for "Teams" instead of games when you preach about innovative and fun then try to point out motorstorm's amount of tracks as a detractor.
Taste can be subjective but it is obvious that bias is present when what is being asked is offered and it is still shot down. - Hetman, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Im not sure why i was dugg down. I didnt say ***** about the ps3 except that it is going to be an uphill battle for them. And seconldy the wii has sold 6 million units you cant deny that.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Quality control? I guess that goes with beta testing... Which means give it to the public anyway.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1
The Playstation community should be thanking Eidos for not releasing there pile of ***** onto the PS3. After all, it's not like their games would pass Quality Control anyway. - m4szyman, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I agree Eidos games are not worth buying, most arent even worth a rental, Eidos will not be missed in 2007.
- Deuterium, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Try and go into any big box store and buy a TV that's not HDTV. 10 rows of HDTVs, 1/2 row of SD TV's. Yeah HDTV is a failure.
- spudnic, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3"Eidos Holding Off on Release of Most PS3 Games Until 2008"
Buyers holding off buying PS3 until more decent games are released.
I see a problem here - staticneuron, on 10/12/2007, -5/+6I have seen you on many forums korexz, spouting the same nonsense over and over again. I own all three systems and I have played Far cry and red steel on them. I'll let you in on a secret..... they suck. Thinking about the "Wii's" Possibility is just as valid as thinking about the PS3's possibilities. So if you believe nothing good is coming down the pipe for the PS3 based off of what is on the market then how on earth can you say the opposite for the Wii. Either you are some weird marketing drone or a complete fanboy.
I love my Wii... but I am sorry... there are no earth shaking life altering gaming moments I have had with it. Several solid games overshadowed by alot of poorly executed and half assed ones. I am going out here and calling out most people who talk trash about the PS3. The truth is many critics here haven't played the PS3 past the store demo and I would imagine most have not played it at all. Even if there multiplatform ports there are alot more good games on the PS3 than there is on the Wii. Which should make the equasion Content - Hetman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Exactly spudnic. I personal am going to buy a ps3 when warhawk comes out. That doesnt change the fact that they are losing exclusives and devolopers are holding back on making games. Those are two major problems you cant over look.

RedHerring Holding Off on Purchase of All PS3 Games Until 2008 - JimmyJJWalker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Eidos Holding Off on Release of Most PS3 Games Until 2008"
LoL, it seems like Nintendo is doing the same thing for their Wii titles, so what... - Hetman, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4I dont think they will be out of the gaming business by then. But it is going to be an uphill battle from here on out for the ps3. It has really been an uphill battle since there launch. They really underestimated how many people would buy a wii. And there lack of killer apps is a downfall also.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Yes, DAMN them from trying to maximize their profits.
What do they think they are, some kind of business entity who's ultimate purpose is to make profits? - sharly2007, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0http://www.gwafi.com/home.html http://www.gwafi.com/links.html
- staticneuron, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2"Eidos Holding Off on Release of Most PS3 Games Until 2008"
Buyers holding off buying PS3 until more "decent" games are released.
Thats funny..... I do not see an issue.
Chances are if you have a problem with motorstorm, resistance, flow, gthd and a few other PS3 titles on the market already, then what people are waiting for are known titles. There are decent games on the PS3. - apoc06, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2im not a huge fan of the wii, but even the wii is on pace to surpass the xbox360 in a few months. the wii doesnt exactly have a spectacular library of games, so whats the deal there? the release of the elite model is no coincidence. they are banking on users trading in their old xbox360s to buy the black model since we all wanted that one from the getgo. honestly, if i knew it was on its way i would have waited a few more months before i bought mine.
given the "software advantage" that the xbox360 has, microsoft's lack of worldwide support is going to hurt it in the long run. the software advantage is truly only in the US. worldwide sales is where the ps3 and the wii will catchup. does MS have their own japanese development house? when the bulk of your titles are american sports [only america really cares about US sports] and FPS games [a genre most japanese people only lukewarm about] you are destined to come in second place worldwide. most japanese dont like the trashtalk aspect of xbox live, so even that "advantage" is handicapped.
i dont want to see any of the companies fail, but microsoft needs to think more globally. two japanese RPGs will not keep the console afloat in asia, im sorry... - zerosigna1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0hit man on wii, hell yeah
- Humm1977, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3I wouldn't be too worried about this from Sony's viewpoint, would have been a story if Eidos has said that the games were not coming out at all, but this is not the case. Most people who want a true next gen game, rather than a cut down Wii version will now wait for the PS3, or get it on the 360.
P.S. The PS3 sold over 600,000 in the space of 2 days in Europe. It's not going away, and it too will be a successful console, just as Eidos also mentions in the article. cambrown99 (suspiciously) decides to omit this in his summary.
P.P.S. Does anyone have the urge to bury any story cambrown99 submits? - such selective choice of anti-Sony stories, all with a heavy Nintendo spin - perhaps he should change his name to 'Nintendo fanboy news' ? - staticneuron, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2What are you saying? There is not enough HD content for HDTV's?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2GTHD = GT4 basically.
Flow = not worth extended play.
Motorstorm = Weak with 8 tracks. - TangentThought, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1"Doesnt Eidos make the Hitman series? That game was well worth my spending money."
Not to me. - johnhummel, on 10/12/2007, -9/+5Wait a second - I just had a thought.
Eidos Fear Effect 3 - *made for the Wii*. Yes, the game featuring lesbian assassins saving the world from supernatural Asian forces.
Anyone else thinking of interesting things to do with the Wiimote in that game?
*cough* - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1So thats what 600,000 people with two games? One?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1***** weak reply button. nm
