- Branden, on 10/12/2007, -1/+21Gamestop owns EB now. They are basically the same sites with a different skin.
- bpapa, on 10/12/2007, -4/+22Wow bojoes that's awful, considering that -
1 - DS has a large number of games that girls can play. I admit I never played "strip tetris DS" or anything like that, but I have played several dirty variations on other Nintendo systems.
2 - You are on DIGG - A ***** TECH NEWS SITE. WRITING COMMENTS. Don't tell me I need to "get a life." - bpapa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Actually by the time the DS lite comes here it will be have been a year and a half. The DS was originally released in the US in November of 2004.
Also they upgraded hardware after 18 months - what tech company DOESN'T do that?
Sides, if you didn't buy a DS already, you missed out on a hell of a lot of games. I definately feel like I got my money's worth out of my original DS. Now, I'll buy a DS lite, and keep the original around for whenever a two-player opportunity arises. - pjh3000, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Good choice. Unlike the PSP, the DS has actual games available for it.
- blixel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Perhaps not completely on topic ... but with the new DS lite coming out, I'm sure there will be a lot of newcomers to the Nintendo DS. As such, what games have you guys played? Which ones were a total waste of time and money? Which game or games do you think are *killer* games for the DS?
I bought Mario Kart DS right when it came out. I think it's a great game and I really like the fact that you can play online with it. That said, I lost interest in it fairly fast.
I tried Metroid Prime Hunters, but I personally just could not stand the control system. It seems counter intuitive, awkward, etc...
I bought Lost Magic a couple of days after it came out. It's an interesting game... I'm not that far into it yet so I'm holding out on my opinion of it. I will say though that it looks more like a GBA game than a DS game.
I just bought Mario & Luigi Partners in Time. So far I am really loving this game.
I have Tetris DS. Personally I think it's worth the $19. Yeah - it's just Tetris ... but there are some new game play modes and you can play online via the DS WiFI connection.
I bought Meteos at the same time that I bought my DS because I read about what an addictive puzzle game it was. I like puzzle games, so I thought I couldn't go wrong with it. It's not bad, but it's not really my idea of a fun puzzle game.
I have Animal Crossing. As most people know, it's not a game. It's more of a life simulation. It's a fairly addictive time waster. My only complaint is with the way the online part works. You can only play with people that you exchange friend codes with. I understand the reason for it, but I sitll don't like that aspect of it.
I bought Advance Wars Dual Strike but I haven't actually received it yet. I'm 99% certain I will love it though because I *still* play Advance Wars 1 and 2 on my GBA SP. It just sucks that Advance Wars Dual Strike came out before the Nintendo WiFi network opened up. I *really* hope they make an Advance Wars sequel for the DS that has WiFi capabilities. If they do, that game alone will make the DS worth the price ... in my opinion.
I, like most other DS owners, am really looking forward to New Super Mario Bros. I'm sure I'll get it the day it comes out. Can't wait.
I'm also looking forward to Final Fantasy III, Children of Mana, and the Legend of Zelda. And there's another puzzle game coming out in about a month called Magnetica. I'm familiar with the type of game it is, so I'm probably going to get it.
I like platformers ... so I'm actually tempted to get Princess Peach. :) I've heard it's a really good game, though a bit on the easy side.
What are your thoughts? - Garage81, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8ive had mine for a week now. preordered from liksang.com for $199 + shipping. its worth the price i paid, and is a complete steal at $129.
- smc44, on 10/12/2007, -5/+12Because Getting together with my girlfriend and 8 others to play tetris is missing out on real life? pfft...
- Corizzle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I was deciding between a DS or a PSP for a trip I'm taking in July, but with the Lite coming out I will have to go with it
- davidv, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7I'd rather wait for a sexy enamel navy personally
- PBoiIceBerg, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9http://www.gamestop.com/product.asp?product_id=020273
- sandig, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Yep, just look at the product numbers in the URLs.
- dvddesign, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4There shouldn't be any import taxes incurred. If you'd look at the US' website on import duties, videogame consoles are admitted with no import taxes. Even if there were taxes on the items, most small, portable electronics (radios and phones) only carry a 1-3% taxation. So, big whoop, you pay $2 more. I've ordered from overseas plenty of times (including my own DS lite) and never incurred any duties on what I bought from Japan, China, or the Phillipines.
- bpapa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Brighter screen, thinner, lighter, more solid stylus... I think that's it.
- PantherX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Yeah, when are you guys selling your regular DS systems on eBay? I want one.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Sweet! Now I just need to wait until it's released over here in the UK and then Animal Crossing here I come! ^_^
- frozendice, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Do they only cost really only $129, or is that just how much the preorder is?
- craigtheguru, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I am very excited about the DS Lite and I know I'm not the only one. I'd probably have purchased a standard DS, but once the DS Lite was revealed I decided to wait for obvious reasons. There's a number of games coming out that I'm excited about, although I think my favorites have to be the new Super Mario Brother and Zelda games.
Can't come out soon enough, and at $129 what a deal! - bpapa, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Personally, I live in NYC so I'll be going to the Nintendo World store in the morning to pick it up.
Hopefully the line isn't as bad as it was when Shigeru Miyamoto came to sign autographs. I'll get up early if I have to. :) - gage006, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2If there's something wrong with the one the website sends you, you can take it into the store with your packing slip for an exchange. Nothing different than buying it from the store.
- frozendice, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3... anyone looking to sell their old DS? eBay's going to light up after this is released. And finally the poor college kid will be able to afford a DS.
- Splitt3rxx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2the lite is finally an excuse for me to buy a DS, that and The new super mario bros. tAt first I thought the touch screen was just a gimmick an d it was another crap system, then me, my sister, and my firend michael played warioware touched in target for 4 hours, and I realized how ***** awesome it really was.
- frozendice, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2What's the difference between the DS and the DS lite? Brighter screen, lighter weight?
- genforklift3, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Screw EB games, I'm going to pre-order mine at Pink Godzilla (Awesome indie VG store). I will still digg.
- blixel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3This should tell you everything you want to know about the DS lite.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nintendo_ds_lite
The main appeal to me is:
1.) Most importantly - the DS lite will have a screen that is **many** times better than the original DS.
2.) The improved aesthetics ... (i.e. the DS lite *looks* cooler)
3.) The fact that it's lighter in weight (the original DS is a tad bit on the heavy side for a portable gaming system)
4.) As a result of 2 and 3, the new DS lite will have a better physical design in general. - FamilyGuy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I preordered mine on 5/5/06 (which is the first day that they started their preorders) at GameStop. I better be some of the first people in my town/city to be getting it!!! I literally did it around the time that they opened...
- thebrokenfan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1ACTUALLY, Most stores eb and gamestop are only getting 10-20 units per store. I know this cause I work for the corp. trust me, preorder it, its a safe bet.
- rcomegys, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I wonder why this is insanely cheaper than the Japanese DS Lite? There's no region coding... but still, should I buy here or wait til I get over there?
- blixel, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I think I'll stick to my original plan. Going to Walmart on midnight the night they stock the shelves with DS lites and getting one that way. I don't want to wait 2 to 5 days after they come out for the shipment to arrive. Plus, if there's any trouble with my DS lite (unlikely, but still), I won't have to pay shipping fees and wait a week or more to get it replaced.
I'm really excited about the DS lite though. I have a blue DS, the original style, and there are several great games for it. They will be even better with the improved screen quality. I had a GBA SP, and when the new GBA SP with the improved screen came out, I couldn't believe how much better it was over the original GBA SP. So I bought one of those too. I still play with the GBA SP about every day as well. Even though you can play GBA games on the DS, I still prefer to play GBA games on the GBA SP. The GBA SP is smaller and lighter, and since the games for the GBA aren't designed for the DS, the extra buttons on the DS just get in the way. And the 2nd screen on the DS has no purpose for GBA games either. Plus, the new GBA SP with the improved screen is actually *better* than the original DS's screen. - Aikinai, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Actually this time Australia's getting it before the US.
http://www.dsfanboy.com/2006/05/05/ds-lite-i-like-australia-more-than-america/ - vypergts, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Coolness, I wonder how long I will have to wait for a supercheap bundle from costco. They had some good deals on the 360 and a comparable DS bundle would be worth it.
- jacobpellegren, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I got my yesterday!! :D I'm so excited, this is seriously my first handheld ( 20 years old, such a loser ). But I'm excited!!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2IIRC, looks like its being released exacly 5 years after the first GBA. Wonder why Nintendo likes doing this?
- marchingsax15, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1$129 is the retail price. If you go into a gamestop or ebgames store, you'll have to put $25 for the preorder, but I do believe you get that money back when you pay for the system.
- jaijai, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Very similar remarks actually on MKDS. I wasted a lot of time in ACWW early on but haven't been playing lately cause it's become more like a chore than an interest. I guess I did spoil myself by reading too much about it online. Lost Magic is an interesting game, though it can get repetitive with a steep learning curve. Someone talked about some intricate strategies over wifi play and that perked my interest. I picked up Tony Hawk for $20 and found out it sort of has downloadable/updatable content in the game as well as a connected webpage for your cartridge on the American Sk8land website. Pretty nifty.
I like wifi ability, but I've found a lot more enjoyment in playing with friends in the same room where you can shout at each other and whatnot. Personally looking forward to NSMB, Contact, Phantom Hourglass and a lot of stuff getting cooked up in the homebrew scene.
http://www.drunkencoders.com/ - DS homebrew dev news - rob08, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1anybody know when this will hit the stores in Europe?
- Zidane, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Pitty that in australia we get everything 12 months behind everyone else :(
- mr804, on 10/12/2007, -7/+8how you just need a rom flasher for it:

For development of couse! - frogstik, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I preordered mine today from my local Gamestop -- I was one of the first, so I got first shipment... pretty jazzed.
- marchingsax15, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Also better battery life. =D I preordered mine the other day from Gamestop. I am way too excited about the ds lite!
- flizzoyd, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Here's mine http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8282844160
- jaijai, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2In case anyone thinks even $130 is expensive, you can get the older DS with Animal Crossing ($35 game) bundled on Amazon.com for $100
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B000EGDEDA/sr=8-5/qid=1146896993/ref=pd_bbs_5/002-9258476-4384039?%5Fencoding=UTF8&v=glance - beelz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Pre-Release
Ships 6/11/06 - ipodman715, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I'm going to preorder this asap.
Check out DS video review: http://www.cabel.name/2006/03/nintendo-ds-lite-first-look.html - skoles, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Don't bother preordering just go to an electronics/toy store & pick one up on release day.
I honeslty don't think Nintendo is going to have a shipment/supply issue with these. Not, at least, enough to warrant giving EBGames/GameStop your hard earned cash that they'll let sit in the bank to collect interest for themselves.
I'm never preordering anything after hearing how they handled Xbox 360 preorders (I neither own one nor desire one btw). Yes MS had supply issues, but they were selling systems to whomever bought the most accessories and not who preordered first (or put down the most). - snoozzell, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1your comment would make sense if the old DS ceased to function, but the old DS still works fine. All they are doing is releasing an new model. It doesn't make the DS you have been using all this time any worse. So how does it hurt you that there is a second model?
- n3rrd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0At best, that was select stores. I work at an EB Games and we kept our list as first come first serve. The stories with the accessories were around BestBuy. BestBuy is ass backwards in all regards though, and rather evil.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I heard the (from cabel perhaps) that the screen can go brighter than the PSP screen.
- gotjukies, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I believe the $25 is called a "deposit", but I think it goes towards the $129 purchase price (plus tax). Gamestop gave me the option of "putting more down".
- roman2013, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I was surprised to find out that the DS lite actually weighs only 218 grams. That's how much my cell phone weighs--pretty cool. Also, the screen is more scratch resistant than the old version.
Pre-ordering is just a gimmick to charge extra for shipping of accessories. There will be more than enough consoles to go around. - PBoiIceBerg, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3Yeah, I know they are the same company but I think the same reason they have two sites is why we need both links. People have an account at one or the other and they don't work on both sites. I could be wrong because I have an account at both sites from when they were separate, but the logins are still different for the same email.
