- Schmidtopolis, on 10/14/2007, -3/+60This sucks. Bioware... that last bastion of GREAT games. EA... dicks in suits claiming they know games. This won't end well, and Bioware are already just spouting the company line and talking like mindless drones all over their own forums.
I'm obviously pessimistic about the whole situation, but I'm still gonna wait to see what happens. If Bioware maintains their ethic of "The game is done when we put the polish to it 18 times, and test for as many bugs as humanly possible", then I got no gripe with this "merge". If EA get their grubby little hands all over Bioware, and we end up seeing Mass Effect 12, and Knights of the Old Republic 7, then that's all she wrote for Bioware. I foresee many 1 year release cycles. - NSMike, on 10/17/2007, -1/+32The death of BioWare.
Let us pause for a moment of silence for all of those great RPGs that will never be made. - amrush4th, on 10/15/2007, -0/+23Smaller developers needs to start some kind of guild that gives them some of the advantages of a larger company but would avoid then being sucked up by the EA's of the world.
- inactive, on 10/14/2007, -1/+24How do you not know about Bioware and Pandemic? You don't seem like the kind of gamer that cares enough to be anti-EA.
- NyteStarNyne, on 10/17/2007, -0/+18Welcome the new EArth.
- inactive, on 10/13/2007, -0/+16because Bioshock is made my 2Kgames, not Bioware
- chris9902, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15wrong company.
- Koldkompress, on 10/13/2007, -1/+16It's okay Mastermind, they haven't brought Popcap so you can still get your Peggle.
- inactive, on 10/13/2007, -1/+14Great. After the "Great" job EA has been doing to their other studios, I hope these great game companies are not 'improved' by EAs meddling.
- Machismo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13Maxis RIP
Origin RIP
System Shock franchise RIP
Westwood RIP
Bioware RIP
Is there anything else that I love that EA would like to crap on? Perhaps a cancellation of my preorder of Mass Effect is in order? EA can't foul something up THAT quickly, can they? - Lasereth, on 10/13/2007, -1/+13Looking forward to Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2, 3, 4, 4: 2nd strike, 5, 5: alpha, 6, 6: northern fury, 6: war is hell, 6: the fight continues, and 7
- inactive, on 10/13/2007, -0/+12OMFG, i hope you don't call yourself a gamer with a straight face, Pandemic not so much, but not knowing what Bioware is, and has done for Video games is damn near a sin against the Gaming Bible.
Go to a gaming store right now and purchase the following before EA gets their cut:
Shattered Steel
MDK2
Baulder's gate 1 & 2
Neverwinter Nights
Knights of the old Republic
Jade Empire
then goto their website and drool over Mass Effect and Dragon Age - jtbndy, on 10/15/2007, -0/+11***** EA.
- estacado, on 10/13/2007, -1/+11When will EA buy Blizzard?
- Elohir, on 10/13/2007, -1/+10Don't worry I'm sure it'll go ahead, it'll just be called SimElf Party Edition or something.
- Enfilade, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I hate EA! Everything they touch turns to *****... they absolutely ruined both MMO's I used to play - Ultima Online and Dark Age of Camelot. They are the prime example of what is wrong with gaming today. The art of game making is being smothered by business. EA just buys up licensing for movies/sports then ***** out crappy games that people who don't know any better buy. Then they buy successful smaller developers, leech off their product and systematically drive them into the ground. Screw EA...
- nattybohman, on 10/13/2007, -1/+9My EA ban will be tough to continue after this. I haven't bought anything from them in years. I wonder if I should cancel my Mass Effect pre-order... They probably won't have time this late in the dev cycle to implement charges for any cheat codes or lock up any on-disc content to sell back to us. This is probably the last bioware game I'll buy.
Sad really, they were one of my all time favorite developers. - theMcPatriot, on 10/13/2007, -0/+8fyi: Mass Effect 2 and 3 were already planned. But your sentiment is dead-on.

- ArchangelZLT, on 10/13/2007, -0/+8Greetings, Mr. Troll.
- nutzngum, on 10/13/2007, -0/+8Battlefield 2 for the pc was HUGE, yet it had no support for widescreen resolutions, ditto anything in the need for speed series as of Carbon. Both are popular successful franchises, not one-off vanity projects. When asked (in an ea forum) why they didn't offer widescreen support for these games their response was "we're looking into it". Several months later, and a couple of patches later, BF2 still didn't support widescreen, neither did Need for Speed Most Wanted, which was ironic because the xbox360 version of NFS:MW did/does.
EA shows little indication that they actually care about their client-base after the product has been purchased. - plhearn, on 10/13/2007, -1/+8Thats exactly what will happen. EA became the biggest video game publisher in the US because they keep cranking out the same stupid game every year. Every move they've made in the past 5 years shows they are more concerned with profit than quality. Goodbye Bioware =(

- aRandomDude, on 10/13/2007, -0/+7All we need is another fresh, innovative company, being taken over by an old, tired company.
- Smills, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7To be fair, Bioshock did have ingame ads. Just not of any products that exist in the real world.
- EBFoxbat, on 10/13/2007, -0/+7So.... really crappy rendered backgrounds with a bit of out-of-focus blur? Since that's EA's new standard operating procedure.
- digster, on 10/14/2007, -3/+10The last few years Bioware/Pandemic have been owned by Elevation Partners (private investment company). The guy who oversaw that investment was Riccitiello. Riccitiello is now the "new" CEO of EA. Why does everyone assume he will take developers he obviously has respect for and has allowed to make great games over the last few years and now screw them up? Relax, take a deep breath and go play some games.
- twtmc, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8BioWare is a very VERY well known company. All their games are known to be of extremely high quality. They are about to make a release that will more than likely sell like hotcakes. A little game (perhaps you've heard of it) called Mass Effect. They also have Neverwinter Nights and Knights of the Old Republic behind them, and an untitled Sonic game in the works.

- heavystone, on 10/13/2007, -0/+6The is AWFUL news! BioWare was a company i SUPPORTED 100%. Always bought their games, never pirated them.
EA, sucks and I will NEVER support a game release from them. So I guess my happy gaming days ends today....***** sad.
This news is just a sad and shocking when the time I read that BullFrog ended.... - OwdenBowden, on 10/13/2007, -0/+6EA has officially become the BORG of Gaming,
Get ready for paying more money for games that are never beta tested and only sell you the unlockables. EA sucks. - MacSuxWindozSux, on 10/13/2007, -0/+6NOOOOOO!!!!!!
- Raingwc, on 10/13/2007, -0/+5And BioWare was underway producing their secret MMORPG yet to be named or revealed, crap, guess thats just another potentially good product that goes to waste under EA.
- nbcaffeine, on 10/13/2007, -0/+5if i read properly, it would take effect in jan, and since mass effect comes out in november, the worst that might happen is maybe a logo in the game and on the box, but thats faaar to quick to really impact the initial release
- artoisval, on 10/13/2007, -0/+5I remember the 90's acquistion from EA, Origin,Westwood, Bullfrog... After their acquisition the studio was closed and EA never really released any good or great game, like baldur's gate. but mostly since ten years on the 25 games i bought (aprox) , the only EA product I bought was UO expensions and Godfather for the Wii. Because I dislike what EA released. Same with Ubisoft ..
- NapalmNewt, on 10/13/2007, -1/+6WoW has made Blizzard build their offices out of solid gold, they are too rich at the moment to be bought out.
- badoli, on 10/13/2007, -0/+5"I seriously doubt EA is going to cannibalize Bioware."
Yea,... it hasn't happen so far, has it? What about Origin? Bullfrog? Renderware? All of these companies were first class developers. Origin created the highly acclaimed Wing Commander and Ultima series. Bullfrog had so many Awards for "best game of the year", they were feeding their pets with them. And Renderware was the most used middleware in the world. Where are those now? Successful competitors successfully taken out of business. Bye, bye Bioware, you won't be forgotten. It's a shame. whose next? Bethesda anyone? - theMcPatriot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5There goes the neighborhood...
- DDRRE, on 10/13/2007, -0/+5NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
The evil empire expands! - Nossie, on 10/13/2007, -1/+6let me correct that for you
SimElf DAOC, WAR Party Edition - hollismb, on 10/13/2007, -0/+5Yes. I am one of those people. When I read it online last night, I said, out loud, "Well, that ***** SUCKS".
Stupid EA. - DeviantDragon, on 10/12/2007, -5/+10Duplicate, it's already in the top 10
- Dhalgren, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5*****
- khellendros1984, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Bioshock wasn't made by Bioware, but by 2K Boston/2K Australia.
- jtbndy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Its funny you mention Madden, seeing as how EA purchased the exlcusive NFL License, so anyone wanting a football game with real teams and players must purchase Madden.
Consequently, Madden has become a mediocre game at best. They know they have the NFL license, so they make piss poor additions each year knowing that everyone will buy it. This is why people hate EA and what they standfor.
P.S. I have 3 copies of Madden. 02 for PS2, 05 for PS2, and 08 for 360.
P.P.S. I still say ***** EA, and now I say ***** you. -
