- rusty123jimi, on 02/24/2008, -10/+190I really hate EA...this is crap. They're truly the "Walmart" of video games these days...
- dansmeek, on 02/24/2008, -0/+93this is truly a sad day for gamers. i hope gta IV sells lights out, and pushes TTWO way above the asking price.
otherwise, we will see GTA V in 6 months from now, but repackaged with some tweaks, like new names for the characters, cars that are a different color, and perhaps a new mode of gameplay that will be the exact same as the original with a catchy new name.
then we will see the same thing with number 6, 7, 8,etc.
in essence, this means GTAIV will be the end of the GTA series.
i truly wish the courts could put a stop to EA buying out companies. because if your a shareholder for TTWO, it's hard to resist this offer. - whatthefu, on 02/24/2008, -3/+95God dammit EA, you make me sad. You ruined NFL games for me by getting a monopoly on them with Madden and churning out ***** new Madden games every year. You shut down servers for games only a couple of years after they come out. AND YOU ***** KILLED WESTWOOD!
- dansmeek, on 02/24/2008, -1/+69i can't think of a single company that has benefited from being bought by EA.
- dansmeek, on 02/24/2008, -0/+63http://planetgrandtheftauto.gamespy.com/fullstory. ...
this article says that take2 rejected the offer. i sure hope this is true. - inactive, on 02/24/2008, -2/+58There has to be some sort of antitrust issue involved in this, no? 2k sports is pretty much the only competitor to the behometh that is EA games. .. without 2k sports, EA has total control over sport video games.
- blindwisdom, on 02/24/2008, -2/+58Is it bad that I find this to be worse news than Ralph Nader's announcement that he's running for president?
- CyrusG, on 02/24/2008, -1/+56We are EA. You will be assimilated. Your biological and technological distinctiveness will be added to our own. Resistance is futile.
- inactive, on 02/24/2008, -1/+48You think GTA4 dlc was ever gonna be free?
- Ganja420, on 02/24/2008, -0/+47***** EA
- CTK14A, on 02/24/2008, -1/+35Eww.
- wearethefuture, on 02/24/2008, -0/+33Totally agree, i think we need as many independent (or less corporate) game developers as possible in order to keep the market competitive, this in turn means the makers will have to be more innovative and creative in order for us the consumers to buy there product. EA seem produce games that appeal to the masses, yet never to me.
- hobbitsareneat, on 02/24/2008, -0/+32EA is taking over the game industry. This is not good.
- blindwisdom, on 02/24/2008, -0/+30And they killed Bullfrog. I will never ever forgive them for that.
- emehrkay, on 02/24/2008, -2/+29I'd rather see Activision acquire TakeTwo any day. As a matter of fact, they should
- inactive, on 02/24/2008, -1/+27Anti-Trust anyone?
- mrbrianxyz, on 02/24/2008, -3/+27damn I knew i shouldve bought more TTWO stock
- blindwisdom, on 02/24/2008, -0/+23Rockstar has already announced DLC, and it has been implied, if not already stated outright that it will cost money. You should be more concerned about EA's influence on the development of games like Manhunt and Bully, and about the monopoly EA will have on the sports game genre.
- blindwisdom, on 02/24/2008, -0/+23Take Two rejected the offer, but EA is now launching a massive PR campaign to try and sway investors over to their offer. They're also keeping pressure on TTWO's board of directors. Right now, it looks like EA has a pretty good shot of getting this through.
- Lixie, on 02/24/2008, -1/+23Oh crap. Here comes the pissing contest between EA and Activision Blizzard to see who can own the most IPs.
- inactive, on 02/24/2008, -0/+20so true, I can't even remember the last EA game I bought. oh wait, EA conveniently names their games sequentially to distinguish them from the predecessor any way possible, must have been 02 then...
- loganhid, on 02/24/2008, -0/+17Take 2 Make some quality games and have one of the most successful game Franchsie (GTA). EA would ruin the company.
- Stevothedevo, on 02/24/2008, -0/+17Wow!
Really can't wait for GTA 2009 GTA 2010 GTA 2011 GTA 2012 etc....
Each will look pretty much the same. (they might add another stadium to the city)
They will just update the 'citizens' roster.
Until they release GTA 2142 which will be so bug ridden the world will explode. - ashymcgee, on 02/24/2008, -0/+15This hostile takeover ***** pisses me off. First they fire their own people, close studios and then turn around and buys more studios? WTF. Is EA so starved on talent that they have to buy it? I can only hope the TT stockholders hold out until GTA IV is released. They will be singing a whole different tune by the,
- G00SEISL00SE, on 02/25/2008, -0/+15After the cash they made off of Sims and Sims 2 and the expansions yea
- doskir, on 02/24/2008, -0/+15i want my ***** dungeon keeper 3
- Modiga, on 02/24/2008, -0/+15Don't be cheap man. If they've made a game worth playing then you should support the devs and pay for it, even if it means EA will be getting some of that.
Anyway, a recent interview with Will Wright revealed that EA were more concerned with the devs getting the game right than shipping it as soon as possible. Surely this is more of a reason to buy to game and to not pirate it, to show that EA letting the devs take their time to get the game right is the release strategy we want them to follow. - Dan11023, on 02/24/2008, -1/+15Electronic Arts Bitchslapped!!!

DIGG IT!!!!!!!!! - Bootes, on 02/24/2008, -0/+14Take 2 owns Rockstar.
- iet2004, on 02/24/2008, -0/+13it would mean more sucky franchises.
- TehMuff1nM4n, on 02/24/2008, -11/+23Get ready to cough up some cash for your GTA IV DLC.
- MillionsLivio, on 02/24/2008, -2/+13In other news, EA has announced that GTAV will be out this August featuring a few new cars and weapons. GTAVI has already started production with a launch date of December. Manhunt 3 will be released this October, and the new main character is John Madden running around on a rampage killing vending machines in brutalizing way!
- TheG2, on 02/25/2008, -0/+11Cold day in hell, anyone?
- 2000, on 02/24/2008, -0/+10So EA wants to buy Take 2, the parent company of 2K Sports, 2K Games and Rockstar games?
That would effectively ruin console gaming for me. - inactive, on 02/24/2008, -4/+14Maybe 99% of the world doesn't care about American sports, but I bet American sport games make up well over 90% of all sport game sales.
- TheCount, on 02/24/2008, -0/+10@JMD
I know plenty of people, including myself, that have been waiting for the exclusive NFL contract to expire. I bought Madden 08, and can't even play the game in franchise mode without freezing. A problem they failed to address completely over multiple patches.
Then when I wrote EA and email demanding a refund for a faulty product, if they weren't going to fix it, they had the balls to tell me they aren't a store, so they don't give refunds. - gx5ilver, on 02/24/2008, -0/+9Actually it is a hostile takeover. They made an offer to the board of Take Two which was rejected. Now they are making an offer directly to the shareholders. If enough shareholders sell EA will have controlling interest of the stock, once that have that it is lights out for Take Two.
- avalonknight, on 02/24/2008, -0/+9They even ruined and killed Origin as well!
- Subacious, on 02/24/2008, -3/+12Maxis. Do you honestly think Spore would have been developed if it weren't for EA's huge pockets?
- Yareking, on 02/24/2008, -1/+10Do you mean ***** THE RIAA?
- TheCount, on 02/24/2008, -1/+10@RiverBelow
Well considering EA bought exclusive rights to the NFL so there wouldn't be any competition, and then procceded to put out a game that doesn't even work, I would say their buying of the company that put out a better NFL game before they threw cash at the issue, would in fact earn them douche bag status. - stonebone4, on 02/24/2008, -1/+9I for one welcome our bland, generic, making-the-same-game-every-year-just-slightly-repackaged-but-at-full-price overlords.
Just kidding. This is horrible news. - Cedargrove, on 02/24/2008, -0/+8The Madden Syndrome is all reaching.... I fear you are correct.
- cthellis, on 02/24/2008, -2/+10BioWare and Pandemic have been fine. Criterion has been beyond fine. DICE has been fine. Mythic has been fine. Black Box has been fine. Maxis has been fine. Westwood was a bit flaky for a while, but has overall been fine. Tiburon has been fine. Headgate has been fine...
Basically, most studios have been fine (or at the very least "at least as fine as they would have been without EA"), with the major exceptions being Origin and Bullfrog, which were admittedly ***** up. (But then again, acquired very early in their growth phase.) There's plenty to take issue with regarding EA and certainly policies, but like ANY large publisher they produce good games, ***** games, and lots of mediocre games in-between.
But it hasn't really been the case that studios are "doomed" the moment they're they're acquired by EA, nor their vision compromised. Many studios are probably much more healthy because of the access to EA's resources and marketing. They have lots of other "just fine" partnerships, too. (Just look at how Rock Band's been handled compared to Guitar Hero after the Harmonix/Red Octane split.)
That said, ***** Madden(x2). ;-) - acdcfanbill, on 02/25/2008, -0/+8It's really hard for me to get over the loss of Origin. Westwood does seem to be regaining a bit of it's former strength but it's still a shell of it's former self imho. Those were my two major beef's with EA.
- Grjemo, on 02/24/2008, -0/+8Eww indeed.
- cthellis, on 02/24/2008, -0/+7Frankly, I've seen more worrisome actions from Activision lately than EA. And pretty much an equal number of poorly-handled major franchises. (Outside of the sports domain, where they aren't really a player.)
I'd rather TakeTwo remain independent provided they can remain fiscally viable, but going Activision's way wouldn't help anything. It would probably be worse, considering the size Activision is taking on with the Blizzard/Vivendi merge. - sexybobo, on 02/25/2008, -0/+7Indie developers are starting to get some help with steam and Xbox arcade now that indie developers can develop for the xbox. Currently the top selling game is Audio Surf a game made by a single guy.
- MadDoggie, on 02/24/2008, -1/+8Great, now even Sid Meier games are going to start sucking.
