- zombiedepot, on 10/10/2007, -2/+135EA keeps getting worse.
- wisedude, on 10/10/2007, -3/+122I love how older means like 6 months
- nymphetamine, on 10/10/2007, -3/+68This makes me wonder if I really should get the upcoming Madden for the Wii. I skipped the last one knowing that online play would come eventually, but if they take it away in a couple of months and force me to buy the newer version, then ***** you EA.
- OlnyGuy, on 10/10/2007, -6/+54Dugg because of the Tiger Wood's picture. How random.
- MillionsLivio, on 10/10/2007, -0/+38There are sports games that have not had players online in ages, yet they are still up for anyone that still wants to play. EA does the opposite with games people still play; ***** them.
- anagoge, on 10/10/2007, -1/+36EA - Destroy Everything™
- Jonmad17, on 10/10/2007, -0/+34And this is why Microsoft should not have let EA use thier own servers for their Xbox Live games..Thats why when you connect to an XBL EA game it says "Connecting to EA servers".This is just to force us to buy new versions of the game.Microsoft can host those games for EA is they wanted to.I still play 4 year old games on Xbox Live but EA pulls the plug on one and two year old games
- lunarnall, on 10/10/2007, -2/+34At least BF1942 lives on!
- yaazz, on 10/10/2007, -0/+27Microsoft doesn't host EA games. EA Hosts their own servers. It was part of the deal to get EA on Xbox live, and also the reason for the ridiculous lag that you see in these games.
I still play PGA06 on Live all the time. I was going to purchase PGA08 when it came out ( I picked up 06 around when 07 came out to give it a try, then got hooked), but now I'll wait for a golf game from an honest company..... - RoadDoggFL, on 10/10/2007, -10/+35How the hell is EA going to drop support for Xbox Live online play? If they're really going to stop "supporting" their old Xbox titled, which is to say, stop LETTING MICROSOFT HOST THEIR GAMES, just for the sake of forcing gamers to buy newer versions, then I'm glad I've yet to cave on me boycott of EA despite such enticing games as Half-Life 2 Xbox, NHL 07, and Black and plan on passing on passing on games like Mercenaries 2, Army of Two, skate, Rock Band, etc.
Seriously, ***** EA. - fLUx1337, on 10/10/2007, -2/+26So I pay Microsoft £40 a year for Xbox Live - but EA can cut off their servers at any time?
What The ***** - Lane, on 10/10/2007, -1/+24well at least for the pc i can see this coming very quickly to bite EA in the ass. if they thought piracy was bad when you needed a cd key for online play just wait until a hack/patch is released allowing for online play. it will happen and when it does dont expect to see any sales of madden 06 ever again.
- dumuzi, on 10/10/2007, -0/+20EA has been going down the ***** for a while. I admit, I love 2142, but the in game ads piss me off, especially that at first the said it's going to be content related, but then how the hell ghost rider on DVD is content related? Just annoying as hell. 2142 is the last EA game I'm going to buy, which is sad, because I really do think that they publish a lot of good games, I just hate the *****' corporate whore mentality that EAs been practicing lately.
- kylesellers, on 10/10/2007, -1/+20*****, I meant to say EA should never have been allowed to run thier own servers.... dammit.
- BlackCow, on 10/10/2007, -9/+26meh, sports games suck.
- creep303, on 10/10/2007, -2/+19That's not sanctioned by EA though. There will always be people to run the servers.
Hell, there are still Unreal Tournament and Quake 2 servers out there. - Murdats, on 10/10/2007, -1/+15or it is EXACTLY why Microsoft should be allowed to run their servers. because in the event that you have companies like EA, or small companies that end up going under, you have someone willing to host servers for them.
- kenvsryu, on 10/10/2007, -2/+16in 6 months your football has changed which means Madden 200x+1 w00t more money for greedy EA!
- scabbers, on 10/10/2007, -5/+17There are people who aren't boycotting EA?
- jmo666, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12I've personally had it with EA sports. First, they bought the exclusive rights to the NFL license, which screwed over the 2K football series (which was clearly a far superior football game, in my opinion), and now they're doing things like this? Is it just me, or does this seem like a borderline strong arm tactic to fuel sales? Online play is huge now, and this will help increase sales because so many dumb people will buy into it.
Go screw yourselves EA. Madden is a terrible football game. NHL07 was great, but I'll be buying NHL2k8 this year. - ubadojw1, on 10/10/2007, -2/+14EA Sports /stupid announce "It costs more to develop on next gen systems so we'll charge $10 more per game; also to re-coop development costs we'll plaster our games with advertisements, they do that in real sports so we'll do it in our games; We need to force consumers to buy our yearly revisions so drop server support, which also carries the duality of dropping the used resale value, we admit we are tools and didn't think Nintendo's Wii would amount to anything."
Gamers /sarcastic announce "F*ck EA sports they suck, boycott their games! Except Madden (I mean I got to play my football), and Battlefield(I need my massive battlefield combat), and well Tiger Woods(I mean really are there any other good golf games?), and Burnout (I like to crash things), and Need for Speed (I need my ricers), and Harry Potter (got to keep the girlfriend/wife and kids happy), and the Orange Box (aw crap EA is publishing that?). Never mind the boycott guys we just have to bend over and keep taking it from EA..." - HyperJack, on 10/10/2007, -1/+13***** comment system eh?
- doctorfungi, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11I haven't liked EA since Battlefield 2. ***** em'. Their games used to be the top of the market, but I'm glad to see that other companies are starting to get a piece of the market share pie.
EA can't just jerk their customers off these days. There's too much competition. - monkeycatDx, on 10/10/2007, -8/+18Good...maybe they will make there games 100% Vista compatible now.
- thejokker, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9no, madden 06 came out 2 years ago. This month Madden 08 is released, so 06 would be 2 generations ago.
- Dimecross, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9Nice. This means that once September rolls along any of us can pick up a 2006 sports title and proceed to sue the everloving crap out of EA for FALSE ADVERTISING.
- kylesellers, on 10/10/2007, -4/+12This is EXACTLY why Microsoft should never have been allowed to run their own Xbox Live servers, because they ***** users over when it becomes inconvenient to keep supporting a game that is less than 2 YEARS OLD!! Now, I don't care about most of these, but I can imagine they are shutting down Burnout Revenge and NFS: MW in order to boost the sales of the upcoming Burnout: Paradise and already released NFW: Carbon.
This is another major advantage of Xbox Live (other than EA games of course). Developers do not need to front the cost of servers and maintenance, Microsoft does that. - imdwalrus, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8Wow. I think they've found the only remaining way to ensure that there will be even MORE used copies of Madden sitting on the shelves of GameStop's used section.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -6/+13EA Sports online play is a ***** joke anyways for Xbox Live. They have no league support for any of there games so ***** them. 2k 4 life bitches
- modifiedbears, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Microsoft did what they had to in order to remain in the console race. Madden is a huge selling game and there are people who buy consoles just to play it. EA deserves all the blame. This is the reason they wanted their own servers so they could push people into buying the next version.
- mrhahn, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6While it's true that individuals host the game servers themselves, EA/GameSpy run the master server (the list of all the running servers) which your client queries.
- HolyChimp, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Problem being that in the case of 360 games, it's not a free service.
- modifiedbears, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8Not really random when EA makes his game.
- ninjakoala, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6I currently own one EA game. I won't buy another till they let MS run the servers.
- dheaddy, on 10/10/2007, -6/+12It looks like EA have finally realised that consumers are aware that the differences between the yearly instalments of their franchises is minimal so they have no incentive to buy a newer version, so they pulled this little doozy out to force them to.
- Sandurz, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5They've probably got that legally covered in the EULA somewhere.
Which is too bad, really. - ernasty10050, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5The sports games don't surprise me... EA has done this every year for Madden. But why lose Marvel Nemesis support? Is Nemesis 2008 around the corner?
- bilbravo, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7By a couple of months, you mean a year. OK.
I'm sure they will support 2 years at a time. So, 07 and 08. Remember, 08 comes out in a few weeks. As a free service, You can't expect to have it around indefinitely. - quantumd, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5I stopped playing 2142 as soon as they started requiring Punkbuster to be running as a background service 24/7.
- Charlotte_Web, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Does this mean they won't be supporting M.U.L.E any longer?
- UNL1M1T3D, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Yeah I agree. I like the idea of in game advertising in games where it helps the gaming experience such as a sports game or racing game, but a first person shooter especially one based in the future, cheapens the experience. It would have been better if they would have just put it in the menus and not actually in the game.
- Optimaximal, on 10/10/2007, -3/+7Yes, you pay MICROSOFT money to keep using a service they provide. You don't pay a penny to EA, who run their own servers.
Do the math! - qwertydvorak, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4i can still play warcraft 2 on battle.net free. old as dirt, but blizzard still lets you connect and play. i stopped buying ea games after battlefield 2 special forces. they started offering all of the map packs for $10 each but still hadn't fixed tons of bugs. shows where the priorities are.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4"What has EA done to ruin your lives? " 6 month of life for a 50$ product -is- very short...
- zoomtechtv, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5EA sucks Burnout Revenge on the xbox360 come on.
- UNL1M1T3D, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Not really considering most if not all servers are owned or privately rented by clans/individuals.
- schoate09, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5They have to make room for the new Michael Vick Dog Fighting game.
- r5a2k3, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3This doesn't surprise me at all. EA is known for having HORRIBLE customer support and game support. Look at Command & Conquer Generals series, there was a bug/exploit that allowed you to fire super weapons as soon as they started building (even at 0%) yet for months they didn't patch it, it took millions of forum posts and such for them to release code to certain fans which in turn the fans patched and the patch was released by EA. Also, BF2, a great game but buggy as *****, we see about 3-4 patches and instead of fixing a great game, they go on making 2142. This is what EA does, release a cookie cutter game, patch it for 8 months and then drop all support for it.
It's ***** annoying and gay as hell and it pisses me off that EA is so big with such horrible tactics. I had a friend who knew a developer inside EA and he says it's terrible in there, there's like usually 2-5 coders working on patches and even then they don't have the right equipment or tools to do their jobs, and yet EA doesn't do anything about it.
***** EA. - DavidGX, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3You get what you pay for.
