- shrewduser, on 10/12/2007, -2/+22bah, i can't say i seriously care about many EA games, they're strictly a company geared around cheap mass production and huge profit margins.... kinda seems to suck all the soul form their games....
- iluvatar, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10I can't wait for the Madden Insta-Gib mod
- n8r0n, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6EA is the Borg of the Gaming Industry.
- DarkJC, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5All those "good titles" you guys are listing, EA doesn't develop them. DICE does the Battlefield series, EA bought Westwood to get C&C, Spore is developed by a studio which was bought by EA, etc.
All of EA's good games were bought from other companies. Almost all of their original in-house content is crap. (Yes, including Madden.) - mecole21, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I'd love to see Ray Lewis blow off TO's head with a rocket launcher...
- Step1Mark, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The last unreal engine worked with win/mac/linux i dont see why this wouldnt.
- evilTak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2EA's first three Harry Potter games used the previous Unreal engine, which had a Linux port. EA did not release Linux ports of any of these games.
- gommle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Does this engine work with Linux, like the Doom 3/Quake 4 engine?
Probably not, but i hope so... - SpeckledJim, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm not sure about "huge profit margins" and "cheap mass production" either, given the huge losses they announced recently.
When people stop buying their annual franchise games, they will stop making them. One example that springs to mind is their F1 racing series that died off a few years ago. I don't see that happening to Madden anytime soon.
Those games are their bread and butter but they have some more interesting (to me anyway) things on the go as well, e.g. their LotR games, Battlefield xx42, C&C, Spore etc. - danjal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Graphics, i care less... i mean, the BEST game i've ever played was Space Quest 3 or Monkey Island.
- Sukino, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Most of EA games do suck but what do you mean by cheap mass production? They have one of the most expensive titles and biggest franchises and some of them are really one of the best games today (BFME, sport titles ...).
- Chrysalid, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4True. I will always resist EA, it's eating away the original game indrusty and replacing it with boring mass games. In fact, I couldn't care less about the graphics engine EA will use in their future games.
- Spaz007, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I really don't care about EA but that money does go to Epic. Epic makes great games. So I guess in someways EA supports companies that know how to make real games.
- Spaz007, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You haven't seen the UT2007 trailer have you? If your comparing UE 2.5 instead of 3 then yes of course BF and HL2 will be better. THEY ARE YEARS NEWER.
- johnsto, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think it would probably save some time if these companies would announce NOT using Unreal Engine.
They might stand out of the crowd then. - iluvatar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'd love to see anyone blow off TO's head with a rocket launcher
- Darkkish, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Everything on consoles is watered down love, unless the game runs HD and you have a 50" plasma.
- josegutz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I want Unreal Tournament for XBOX 360!!! I loved the Unreal T Liandri Conflict...It was like Evercrack...
- gommle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1But its EA. Will they make they release an installer for Linux for their games? I dont think so.
- evilTak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1EA's been using the previous Unreal engines for its games too. Their first three Harry Potter titles, for example, were all Unreal-powered.
- cyssero, on 04/18/2009, -0/+1This is good news. Good for the Unreal team, at least. The games EA produce will unfortunately probably be garbage.
I remember seeing demos of the Unreal 3 engine years ago, it's going to be incredible - to say the least. Very scalable and will probably be a platform used for many years to come.. I look forward to Unreal Tournament 2007 (or whatever it may be named), as well as Unreal 3. - GhostRiderTGAC, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1No kidding - resistance is futile :-(
- KingEntropy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0EA makes terrible games. Let me elaborate. Battlefield 2, a game that has been out for a while (it's new younger brother has even come out 2142) cannot even fix all of their bugs. Dual screens will send BF2 into a panicked frenzy of crashing and re-optimizing it's shaders. Once you turn the second monitor off the bugs continue. But the one thing that really pisses me off.... VERIFYING CLIENT. Yes yes i know most games do it today but why do you need to do it in single player mode? It's not just BF2 that bothers me. 2142 seems to have spy ware installed in it so it can watch where you go on the Internet to get "targeted advertising" What kind of crap is this. I'm not even getting into their shady business practices and their amazing ability to make everything crash then have 5000 patches that never work. Bah... this much yelling and throwing things can't be good for the blood pressure.
- EasY_TargeT, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1@ gommle
you can wine it - MackPrime, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1BF : Bad Company will likely use this.
- freshmaker, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Isn't this a dupe? From the same guy?
- s1gnals, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0The Unreal engine imho is not as great as the current incarnations of Doom, Battlefield and Half-Life. Flying airships in Unreal is a joke; you are constantly scraping up against the "sky". Unreal's game universe seems more "cartoony" than the others as well.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2I don't really understand the hate. Games produced by EA generally tend to be not only the biggest sellers, but also some of the best-reviewed PC games in their genre. They have the best FPS games, the best driving games, etc.
I understand it seems "cool" to be anti-establishment and hate the market leader and all, but these people actually give us good content. True, they don't make a lot of it in-house, but they provide the funding for all these great games that many people, myself included, really enjoy, and without a wealthy company like EA, many of these great games would lack the budget to make them as good as they turn out, and wouldn't attract nearly as many good designers and artists.
So please, forget all your baggage about anti-establishment, put your anti-MTV-style mentality aside, and get some perspective. EA gives us big-budget, high-quality, critically-acclaimed games. They may suck as a company, employ dirty business tactics, and have some awful people in management, but their end result -- the games -- has few equals. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -7/+4Bah! Battlefield 2 Rocks. You guys are crazy. EA has rocked since NHL hockey 93' on the Super Nintendo. And I'm not just saying this because I am the best NHL player ever. What games do you guys like to play, Sierra?
