- aahpandasrun, on 10/10/2007, -1/+95EA does a terrible job with its Xbox 360 games.
-they refuse to use the gamer profile system built into the xbox 360, and uses their own old school file system
-multiplayer is hosted on their own servers, which they then close down a year or two later when the game stops selling
-signing up for multiplayer requires you to register with ea online and have to dodge special offers and put in unnecessary information
no other developer does this to my knowledge - Renton, on 10/10/2007, -2/+55You didn't think everybody hated EA for no reason, did you?
- gypsi, on 10/10/2007, -9/+46You go where the install base is -- it's just good business.
- mr804, on 10/10/2007, -5/+30***** EA. We won't forget what a ***** job you did on BF2!
- inajeep, on 10/10/2007, -1/+23That's ironic, I give EA my lowest consideration when purchasing games.
- Mejogid, on 10/10/2007, -0/+20Sorry for replying to the first comment, but the actual source for this news is hidden ridiculously deep. gamepro -> xbox360wire -> advancemn -> gamespot blog -> nytime blog - http://bits.blogs.nytimes.com/2007/08/16/sony-v-microsoft-with-helmets-the-sequel/ . Is it that hard to link to the source? Not to mention the original was only about prioritisng 360 against PS3 titles, without the Wii even coming into it.
- nattybohman, on 10/10/2007, -1/+20I won't buy anything from EA. They find new ways to p1ss me off every year.
- NFL exclusivity: we can't compete, so we'll throw money at the NFL
- Paying for cheat codes (the godfather 360)
- Paying to unlock features already on the disk (NFS)
- Forcing you to accept spam if you want to play online
They disgust me. - truspector, on 10/10/2007, -9/+21I'm kind of surprised they would admit this with how fast the Wii is selling, but I guess since the 360 has the largest software tie ratio it was a no brainer on their part.
- Zap2, on 10/10/2007, -3/+14well EA sucks, so I don't really care, although the work they have done on Wii has been a change of tune for them
(The Godfather, Madden '07...and first 3rd party games to go online Madden '08)
Now if they get some new IPs were set!) - Bartboy919, on 10/10/2007, -2/+13Crysis, where art thou?
- yotadriver, on 10/10/2007, -2/+13i have hated EA since they released BF2 for PC. even a year later after all the hundreds of MB's of patches they released it was still worse than most beta's i have played.
- loganhid, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11does this representative include Peter Moore
- stellarceltic, on 10/10/2007, -3/+11.... that's the best you could come up with?
- BigSkam, on 10/10/2007, -8/+15"while Nintendo is going after, well, everybody else"
"And if you're just a gamer, get a Wii."
That's a contradiction. The wii isn't geared towards gamers. - rondeth, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Not to mention most of their games I've played don't seem to support custom soundtracks...I just cannot stand their choices, so I end up turning 'em off...
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -3/+9Too bad you suck.
- RapeApe, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8How many multi-platform games include the Wii? (asides from EA's sport games) The Wii just can't handle most of them. You see more PS2/Wii games than say Wii/PS3/X360.
- Optimaximal, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8So wait, Microsoft are greedy and overcharge for mediocre products? Have you checked the Sony store lately (if not ever?)
Hello? VAIO? - doshindude, on 10/10/2007, -8/+13so much for "Wii is our priority"
screw you EA. - catalysis, on 10/10/2007, -6/+11BF2 was made by Digital Illusions and it sold 2.2M copies, so obviously your experience was not shared by all.
- xst4t1kx, on 10/10/2007, -3/+8I logged back in just to agree. Requires admin to install. install doesn't add keys to registry, have to be added manually. Requires CD in tray (give me a break). "Play online now" icon doesn't allow online play. Running as non-admin reports insufficient os privs error when attempting to play on punk buster enabled servers. No less than 2-3 minutes to get past connecting to login server screen. All too frequent crashes. Thats just some of the technical, not even getting into the gameplay flaws. BF2 is the worst game purchase I have made in years.
- phrozenone, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5So you alienate one user base in favor of the other, thats not good business that just causes resentment, frankly I think its just an excuse to crap out and inferior product and say you either buy it or you don't
- sm3287, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Only EA game I still like is NHL Hockey '94 for Super Nintendo.
- yellowb, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Looks like Peter Moore did his job. LOL
maybe all ps3 games will have 30 fps. - justice7, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5try sending it in for warranty ... what good does it do sitting there not working? At least you'll get one back, eventually.
- staticneuron, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I am not surprised really.
- pseudo.hero, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Way to ruin any credit you were trying to roll with. The sooner you realize none of these companies care about you and will overcharge you at the chance they get a bigger bonus at the end of the year is the day you will appreciate reality.
- Optimaximal, on 10/10/2007, -4/+7Sales != happy customers. Not only is the CD key registered against an account so it can't be resold (on ebay etc.), 90% of games stores don't offer a refund policy on PC games anyway
- KingGoonie, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2That was a damn awesome game.
- johnhummel, on 10/10/2007, -7/+9What I find interesting in all of this is how it will effect future console sales. It seems that between the 360 and the PS3, they're both going after the same market - those 18-35 year old males, while Nintendo is going after, well, everybody else (plus the set of 18-35 gamers who like what Nintendo's offering, like myself).
But look at the worldwide situation - the 360 is clearly selling more in the US, doing terribly in Japan, and OK in Europe (depending where you are). The PS3 is doing terrible in the US, OK in Europe, and OK in Japan (though getting better as the "year after issue" is nearly over, and games like Minna No Golf 5 and such are coming out).
I'm betting in the long run that the Wii sales will continue to do well in all regions (maybe start to taper off another year from now), the PS3 sales in Japan will pick up, and the 360 will continue to dominate the US market. No idea about Europe - it could vary from region to region.
So you could have a situation where the traditionally western developers like EA stick with the 360 and support the Wii with unique offerings, traditional Japanese companies like Squeenix support the PS3 with unique Wii offerings, and everybody else is kind of up for grabs. If you're someone who prefers "western" style games like Bioshock, go to the 360. If you're a fan of more Eastern style games like "Final Fantasy XIII", head to the PS3. And if you're just a gamer, get a Wii.
Personally, I'm staying out of the whole damned mess for another year since I don't want to waste $500 before I know what franchises will end up where in the end (will MGS4 be headed to the 360? Will Eternal Sonata and Bioshock make it to the PS3, etc, etc, etc). I have a Wii for my family, a PS2, and between my DS and PSP I have more than enough gaming to get me by for another year before I start to miss the "hard core" stuff. - OwdenBowden, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3MICROSOFT: EA should Beta Test before Selling their Product to the public!
- diggrim, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I resent the NFL as much as EA for what they did to NFL-based games...buy All-Pro Football 2k8 if you want to show your resentment for the NFL/EA crowd (imho, it's much better than Madden08, just without the lineups :( )
- Proctor, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Wii is next gen because they came up with a new controller idea for a better experience while playing. PS3 is next gen because it actually has good graphics, supports 1080p without ***** upscaling & lagging, has a new media format, uses live rendering, a next gen processor, and has a new sixaxis controler.
- modsuperstar, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4So basically they are saying we'll target North America, and FU Japan. It doesn't really surprise me since both EA and X360 don't do so well there.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4And Sony doesn't overcharge for their products? When's the last time you looked at their computers, TV, etc, etc. You are a tool. Too bad the internet isn't like real life. When someone steals your *****, you can shoot them.
- pseudo.hero, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I disagree, yes EA is pretty evil and it's pretty common practice to not like Microsoft and beside issues with the system they are putting out some pretty original games and take risks.
- justice7, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1you say "half the games" like its a good thing?
- 0two, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Nice retort. I'm assumng the lack of any kind of reasoning or actual points is intentional, since you really have nothing.
- Renton, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Some games are. Like Smash Bros, Metroid Prime, Resident Evil, and Twilight princess.
- dys2k7, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2"I could keep going."
no please. just SFTU - devjunkie, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3Heh, considering they churn out mediocre games left and right, it's not surprising they're unwilling to put much effort into developing for other consoles.
Whatever they can do to maximize profit, right? Especially treating their employees like *****. - HolyChimp, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3You fail at trolling.
- MatttK, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1How else do you get people to buy the new version if the old multiplayer still works? :P
- Spuy767, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Wherever Microsoft goes, you can count on shady business tactics to eliminate competition.
- faster3200, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2As far as the exclusivity goes, the NFL WANTED that. Many companies bid to own the wrights, EA just had the deepest pockets. Although, they could have always been nice and let others license the wrights.
On every other note though I agree with you. - EBFoxbat, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3I couldn't tell the 360 was your priority after buying Madden '08 for the PS3 you ***** nuggets. I want my $60 back.
- Proctor, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Do you guys seriously like sucking dick of MS? It's time people get over the 360. It's not a very good system, it's not next gen. Any smart people can agree with me.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1it's about time i don't really know why all the hate for EA catering to XBOX 360 finally, they sure as heck didn't do it with the first Xbox system because online play with EA games was nill !! Sony got all the fringe benefits with the PS2 and then some !! Now that it's Microsoft's time to shine with their second system the 360 and online EA support and capabilities...Sony fanboys need to give it a break !!! They had thier day in the sun, their just sour that EA is showing more love to the 360 and not the Ps3 ...now that the shoe is on the other foot this generation HOW"S IT FELL SONY ?
- incredibilistic, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Yeah, I know. First they say that they're sorry for not making more Wii games a few weeks ago and now they're saying that they're focusing more on the 360.
Even John Kerry didn't flip-flop this much.
And as someone else said, they go where the money is. If the PS3 starts flying off shelves guess where their focus will be then? - pseudo.hero, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Doesn't Japan do the same thing with American products?
