- LimeParrot, on 09/09/2008, -5/+264Here's my plan.
Keep my money. Download RA3. Play the campaign purely for reminiscence of the good old days of Red Alert 2. Uninstall. Point middle finger in the general direction of Electronic Arts. - Gorgamel, on 09/09/2008, -4/+208***** DRM
- SuperSneaks, on 09/09/2008, -2/+142Oh goody, now I get 2 more installs for Red Alert 3 than Spore. Thanks EA! I love renting my PC games from you.
/sarcasm - mikemil828, on 09/09/2008, -3/+135Apparently EA got the message with all that Amazon Spore review spam....and threw it in the trash
- PaddyUK, on 09/09/2008, -3/+72FUUUUCCCKKK. Sorry, but I love the Red Alert series, I enjoy it even more than the original C&C universe. But, after the fiasco I just had with Spore I won't be buying this, sucks that i've been waiting for years, but I'd rather keep my money than give it to Electronic Arse.
- wafflekid567, on 09/11/2008, -0/+66Thank you blizzard and Valve for making good games
- loveddevol, on 09/09/2008, -3/+63not RA3, god ***** damn it.
- adml_shake, on 09/11/2008, -1/+53***** EA, why don't you try a little harder to push people to pirate you games.
- pigfister, on 09/09/2008, -19/+69Shame on you EA and shame on you Will Wright for not speaking out.
well is this sony's second attempt to kill off the second hard game market after their patent they tried to keep very quiet!
Oh BTW ppl screwUROM (SecuROM) is sony made DRM

Furor Over Sony Patent
http://itvibe.com/news/4063/
Sony to make it illegal to sell second hand PS3 games
FTA: At the start of the year Sony filed a patent that could threaten the second hand games market and independent retailers alike.
The patent would allow Sony to lock a game to the first console that it was played on, meaning that if you sold the game or lent it to a friend they would be unable to play it on their console.
Sony stated at the time that the aim is to protect itself from counterfeit software, but were aware that the same technology would also prevent the re-sale of used games.
At the time many people shrugged it off not really thinking Sony would go through with the idea as it would kill the second hand games market, the games rental market and seriously hurt independent retailers. All of which could damage PS3 console and games sales.
However retail sources have revealed to GamesRadar that "high street games shops have been told by Sony that there will be no PS3 pre-owned sections in their stores as it will be illegal for customers to sell any next-gen PlayStation games that they've bought"
What do you expect from the masters of rootkits other than anti-consumer propertarian bull *****.
Bad move EA, you feckin sell outs!

Obviously you don't want to let people go willy nilly copying their CD on all their friends computers, but to be this overrestrictive with their content you are basically now renting only hurts the people actually buying the game. The pirates will always work around a companies DRM, you would think software companies would have learned from the battles of the RIAA that the people that really want free software, will continue to get your product for free.
- Farmer77, on 09/11/2008, -0/+36That Amazon review page is going to be fun to read.
- theexitwound, on 09/09/2008, -5/+36I wouldn't mind having to put the disc in if I meant I could install the game as much as I'd like. These install limits are atrocious.
- reyoo30309, on 09/09/2008, -2/+30They are shooting themselves in the foot. The DRM does not stop people from pirating... If you and EA would open your eyes you would be able to see that the only people that the DRM is hurting are the people who legally purchased the game.
- TrunksTheMighty, on 09/11/2008, -0/+26***** DRM I plan on downloading it anyways.
- IndigoMoss, on 09/11/2008, -1/+26Alright EA, that's fine. Keep your DRM. In-fact double up on it. Hell let's throw 3 different instances of DRM on there. (Goes over to the crack folder, copies over a few files). Sweet! Time to play my pirated game. -The Pirate
Sweet, I finally got this awesome game that just came out. Time to install. (Put's the disk in the drive). Please insert original cd. (Scratches his head. Tries cleaning it off, re-inserting it, and turning off any background programs.) Please insert original cd. ***** this, what's this Piratebay thing all about? -The Customer - shadus, on 09/11/2008, -1/+25They're costing themselves business by treating their purchasing customers worse than pirates.
It's extremely weak sauce. - Sfenton, on 09/11/2008, -0/+23Well EA, you just lost another customer.
- geekoid, on 09/11/2008, -0/+23Steam verifies you have the right to run a game every time you run it, but that's as far as it goes. You may install it on as many computers as you like, but may only play it on one of those machines at any time, per account.
I think it's a much fairer way of doing things, plus it means you can download your games anywhere and as often as you like, meaning you don't need to always carry a computer with you everywhere. - zyklon, on 09/11/2008, -0/+23They don't care about the customers.
- IVIrMP3, on 09/11/2008, -0/+22Good old days of Red Alert 2? What about Red Alert 1, that game kicked ass. Modem to Modem multiplayer. I still listen to Hell March off that soundtrack
- marcus1060, on 09/11/2008, -0/+22This makes no sense!
The DRM is already cracked on Spore! So why do they care!? It's not stopping anyone! - revenz, on 09/11/2008, -0/+21another trip to pirate bay for me then, until they stop this i wont buy their games (otherwise i would, i was waiting for payday to buy spore when i first heard about their DRM).
- CoreyHalliwell, on 09/11/2008, -0/+21I was at wal-mart today and i walked right past the big spore promotion. I took one look and said "nope". I had money but i wont pay for anything with DRM on it. By this article, It doesn't look like they're learning either. Its ironic how they wont understand that giving gamers freedom from DRM actually makes them HAPPY. Instead they're doing what a lot of industries do, go with ***** theoretical business models/practices that care more about imaginary numbers than enriching the community...
:( - ChinezePanda, on 09/11/2008, -0/+20That's a shame... looks like they lost a sale.
And have gained a download. - twiztidsinz, on 09/11/2008, -1/+21Steam is DRM done right.
Steam is like being carded at a bar.. once you show proof (license/ID card) you're free to enjoy all the tasty drinks you want.
You log your account into steam, load up a game and your account gets "carded". The game asks:
"Do you own this game?"
yes> "Have fun playing your game wherever you go."
no> "Oh, sorry you cant play.. you should buy it!" - inactive, on 09/11/2008, -3/+22I'll pirate that too.
Stop the DRM.
I'll stop pirating. - Nore, on 09/11/2008, -1/+20Well I guess I won't be buying RA3 either. Good job EA you ***** pricks.
- dbxz, on 09/11/2008, -1/+20EA i love games, I have the money... please take it. All you need to do is remove the DRM.
otherwise i'm keeping my money. - WhiplashVIII, on 09/11/2008, -0/+18Ever since Westwood was bought out by EA... it's been downhill all the way! I really W_A_S looking forward to buying this game.
- lennybird, on 09/11/2008, -0/+18I know I'm getting neither Spore, nor RA3 due to this. God I hope Valve isn't bought out by those money mongering ***** holes.
- ShyGuy91284, on 09/11/2008, -0/+18First off, I didn't fully read the article, but I've seen enough ***** DRM rules to see where this is going if it hasn't already. I say no DRM should EVER require you to contact the company to play a game (unless it's multiplayer of course). If you want updates, sure. if you want multiplayer, sure. But this whole idea of forcing the user to make contact with something that is really beyond their means to play a game on their own is horrible. I don't like the idea of being unable to play my software 20 years from now when I'm feeling nostalgic because the company went belly-up or they decided it is time to take away your license and force you to buy a remake....
- pcrazy, on 09/11/2008, -0/+17I am not worried about SecurRom. I'll just download it and crack it.
- Ebel3003, on 09/11/2008, -0/+16Well, looks to me that it's settled. It appears that I'll only have to purchase Starcraft 2 (yes, I realize that I'll be waiting for a while) for my next strategy title. I'm allergic to DRM.
- stretch611, on 09/11/2008, -0/+16It is this level of overreaching DRM that will turn me from a legit customer to a pirate.
- bagboyrebel, on 09/11/2008, -0/+16what happens if the authentication server goes down and you still want to play the game a few years down the line?
- angrytortilla, on 09/11/2008, -0/+16Another reason not to give Electronic Arts my money. *****, they make it so easy for me!
I can buy another car at this rate. - Bulletbillx, on 09/11/2008, -1/+17Every game i've played on steam lets you install it an infinite number of times.
- bretto, on 09/11/2008, -1/+16I like to reinstall windows at least once a year. If I did that then in a couple years I wouldn't be able to play Spore at all. Or if I upgraded my computer in a few months that would waste another install.
- noumuon, on 09/11/2008, -0/+15"The more people steal it, the more you prove them right and give them reason to put more DRM on it.
Just like music kids. Amazon offers DRM free because people are willing to pay. "
wow, did you just completely contradict your own assertion? - Mohdoo, on 09/11/2008, -0/+15DRM has yet to work on ANY game. Why keep doing this to their customers?
- brett717, on 09/11/2008, -0/+15Another game i'll be pirating
- ErickStevenson, on 09/11/2008, -0/+14I think you just proved his point, Amazon offers DRM free because people are willing to pay.
People who don't like DRM (past bad experience) will not be happy with a game with DRM, so they won't buy it.
I for one buy games I like, and at the same time download them to see what the fuss is about. Specially multiplayer games that need the key to play online, I rather have that than DRM. - neocr0n, on 09/11/2008, -0/+13I personally don't feel Command & Conquer has been going in the right direction since the majority of the original Westwood team left which I think was before Red Alert 2. For me the last really good C&C was Tiberian Sun.
- Katana314, on 09/11/2008, -1/+14I'm not a C&C fan, or even an RTS fan, but I will specifically download this game as a "***** you" to them.
- VinnieDaMac, on 09/11/2008, -1/+14People are pirating Spore right now, except their pirated copies don't have DRM.
- geardosdotnet, on 09/11/2008, -0/+13EA lost 2 sales from me.. Spore and now this. How much more money do you want to lose EA?
- Oronar, on 09/11/2008, -0/+13Or you could not buy it in the first place. EA doesn't give a ***** if you pirate it AFTER you buy it, they already have your money.
- wolferz, on 09/11/2008, -0/+12No just ***** EA.
When you have a company as full of itself as EA with the beginnings of a multi-trillion dollar monopoly and a penchant for doing everything from a short term business mindset... DRM is not only expected... it's trivial compared to the mountain of other issues that arise.
So yeah... ***** EA. - wafflekid567, on 09/11/2008, -0/+12Just download the game
the pirated versions of a game with drm has more benefits anyway
***** ea -
