- 8ight, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1jkfan87, the NHL will never be a mainstream sport in the states. fighting is part of the game, even that stuff and the end that just builds a rivalry. i was probably wrong by saying it's the "worst" new rule... that tag should go to the gaolie trapezoid. however, the fighting rule is stupid. that's why teams have goons, to fight. but again, the NHL will never be mainstream. they're making hockey into the NBA with just giving the star player the ball/puck and him doing his thing. in the NHL, they're giving the D no chance. in the NBA, the D just doesn't give a *****.

I dont think you understand shutouts and that they are implement in the Olympics. Shutout is when the goalie goes one on one with a player. Its not soccer where the player is an idiot if he misses. Hockey shutouts involve good angles, skill and speed.
This is good for hockey. The sport will only truly take off when they axe some teams and HD is a standard. HDTV will revolutionize hockey: the puck is always clearly visible, you can differentiate the players, and you can enjoy the game.
Hockey is the hardest game to play and learn (PERIOD). Just skating in itself is a sport ,...so imagine addind shooting, passing, cheching, etc...
Hockey has the potential to be the most exciting sport but it truly sucks that Mario and Gretz are no loger in their prime and the great is not playing. Download the clips of mario Lemieux goals and just BE AMAZED.... - 8ight, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1nope, no ties. i was always a pusher for this rule... until now, that it's here. i'm just iffy on it now. the rules i hate are the goalie restriction one and kind of the new icing rule. the absolute worst new rule, which is not mentioned in the vids is this:
"Not only will anyone who instigates a fight in the final five minutes of a game receive a game misconduct and automatic one-game suspension, the length of the suspension doubles for each additional incident. Basically, they're imploring us to turn the channel with five minutes left if either team is up by three goals."

- icupg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I've been a fan of hockey since I can remember and I've played ice hockey since 3rd grade (I'm now 23, and I think these rules are great. I've been wanting a shootout for years now, and the tag-up for offsides needed to come back, I hate the old offsides rule. At first I didn't like the new goalie rule because I like when the goalies come out to play the puck, but I didn't realize they could still come out within that trapezoid area, so that isn't too bad. The only rule I don't like is the fighting in the last 5 mins. Fights are a part of hockey, they should shun it, they should embrace it or punch it in the head, then embrace it.

- Chango_Family, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1By december, the hooking and holding will be back and mediocre players on well disciplined teams will try to minimize mistakes and scoring chances, hook, hold, interfere, slow down the best players and nothing will change. Hockey referees will still lack the balls of those from other sports and end up calling the games like before where what is a penalty in the first two periods never is called in the third.
That is why theyre not even bothering lying to us like they do every 2-3 years; they hope that the changes will compensate for the lack of calls. FYI to the testosterone squad, 'finishing a body check' is interference in 95% of the time. If the player doesnt have the puck, you can not hit, stop or hinder his progress, just like in football. Until the league allows its most skilled players to express their talents, the game is going to be played with premium on not taking chances and playing within the system, a hot goalie and good special teams. Hopefully the games will return to its glory, minus the stupid fights. - 8ight, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0man, the bands in EA games are trash from all that i've heard. the only band i've come across that i ever liked was the futureheads, whom i'd listened to a lot before then. i turned all the crap off in madden 06, and turned all the NFL films tunes on. no idea why those aren't in the game by default... oh yea, kickbacks from record labels, that's why.
- Vagari, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I don't mind the shootouts so much, it's more that there's hardly any time before they occur. The game should go on for at least 2 extra periods before they resort to a shootout. Especially if they're only 5 minutes long.
And what the hell is all the "this will increase offensive presence" talk? Like the "goalie zone" rule? Are they trying to push scores up to the levels they occur in EA sports games? The tension in a 1-0 game with only a few minutes to go is a lot better than seeing a 7-4 game. I guess they think that by default more goals == better game?
And lastly, what will this do to the EA hockey games where defense has always sucked. Now instead of winning a game 18-2 we can win 34-3 without too much trouble? <sarcasm>Oh wait, that's right, they'll just skew everything so the computer scores goals from their own blue line all the time and the computers checking ability will increase exponentially...</sarcasm> - WillyWonka, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Shootouts suck. EA hasen't bought out exclusive rights for the NHL too, have they? i hope not. i'm trying to boycott EA, but burnout is just too good, i mean, they didn't start with EA, so i guess its still a boycott. i also have to hand it to EA, they have THE BEST (non-original) music in their games.
