- Lonecow, on 01/23/2008, -6/+221Thank God! It gets frustrating being a lonely voice on a blog when none of the big companies seem to back you up.
Hopefully this is the start of a change in the industry.
Let the revolution begin!- dsmx, on 01/23/2008, -0/+58I bet everyone feels so soiled being on the same side as EA.
- turpenine, on 01/23/2008, -2/+12not when mass effect is involved. It could be produced by the terrorists in darfur and I would probably still play it. Although I might would pirate it or borrow it from a friend.
- mem2, on 01/23/2008, -8/+1Its Fox News though, as much as they ***** you, your not helping by drawing any more attention to them.
- norman619, on 01/24/2008, -4/+10Like any of the other boradcast news outlets are any different. Your naivete is cute.
- CoolWind, on 01/24/2008, -6/+2your ignorance is showing
- brycelb, on 01/24/2008, -0/+4So is yours!
- fuisgofg, on 01/24/2008, -3/+1...I'm obese.
- BearinG, on 01/28/2008, -0/+1Cute?!
***** off with that word. You are not tough(er).
- CoolWind, on 01/24/2008, -6/+2your ignorance is showing
- ricree, on 01/24/2008, -0/+2They're a major news network. It's not like their viewers are going to forget about the channel if we start ignoring it. Let's face it, after you reach a certain size, there is such a thing as negative publicity.
- brian4572, on 01/24/2008, -1/+1Hypocritical, "oh we care so much" but this is how they present the "news" http://cliffschecter.bravenewfilms.org/blog/18867- ... submitted 69 days ago on Digg!!! HAHAHAHAA http://www.digg.com/comedy/Fox_News_Porn_Video_
- norman619, on 01/24/2008, -4/+10Like any of the other boradcast news outlets are any different. Your naivete is cute.
- Charlotte_Web, on 01/23/2008, -7/+4I thought Geoff did a decent job of defending the game. Watch the video; Fox News allowed both sides to make their case.
And who does EA want Fox News to issue the apology for? the round table was concerned about kids playing the game, even though the game is rated M for Mature. Controversy will only spur the adult buyers to action.- turpenine, on 01/24/2008, -0/+15They cut the dude off and then made a final comment of "I will not let my children play this game etc..."
- Charlotte_Web, on 01/24/2008, -1/+7Keyword: "children"
All this is doing is raising awareness of why the ratings system is in place. The "M" rating on Mass Effect means that it's recommended that players be 17 or older.
I say that EA is trying to stoke the controversy for all its worth. Look at what controversy did for GTA.- Midnitte, on 01/24/2008, -3/+1Well its not like the xbox has any parental controls - fox is totally justified. . . Sarcasm goes where?
I'm surprised someone has finally made a huge commotion that fox /gasp tells nothing but lies. Good for you EA. - Charlotte_Web, on 01/24/2008, -2/+3You're assuming that every parent that buys an XBox knows about the parental controls. As someone who has a lot of years of tech support experience, I'm going to make an educated guess that millions of parents who bought XBoxes and 360's are not users of the consoles and are thus oblivious to the existence of parental controls.
But again, who really cares about this dust-up besides the Fox haters? The game is already rated M for Mature, so kids under 17 should not be playing it without parental consent. For the 17 and over crowd, the news that there's simulated sex in the game is probably a selling point (to be honest).
And if Fox "tells nothing but lies," then why did they bother having Geoff on in the first place? - Linua, on 01/24/2008, -0/+5That would be the parents responsiblity, not the childs. Don't give me that "I'm ignorant so I can blame someone else" *****.
- Midnitte, on 01/24/2008, -3/+1Well its not like the xbox has any parental controls - fox is totally justified. . . Sarcasm goes where?
- PixelCloud, on 01/24/2008, -0/+4But you can have an alien lesbian encounter!
- Charlotte_Web, on 01/24/2008, -1/+7Keyword: "children"
- Spuy767, on 01/24/2008, -2/+7These people are idiots and clearly have absolutely no concept of the gaming market. They foolishly proclaim that the majority of gamers are adolescent males which is likely false. I don't have exact figures, but those of us who grew up with mario, are playing mass effect and call of duty four. And Fox News can kiss my ***** ass. They show graphic violence involving real humans yet cry foul when a video game displays half of a vaguely rendered martian tit.
- bluezinc, on 01/24/2008, -1/+2No, I believe that was the only correct thing she said. More kids these days, games are getting more and more popular, that means more players are kids. There are more children alive now than ever before and (pending some sort of apocalypse or deadly plague) that will always be the case.
But that "news" presenter is the exact kind of person I loath. Doesn't know what she's talking about, thinks she sounds smart, and can't even make a single valid point all the while acting as arrogant as possible. "The scanner asked for my age and I put it in and then, bam, I was in. My point is, kids can play this game" - WTF does her inability to comprehend the internet have to do with Mass Effect???- Gir53457, on 01/24/2008, -0/+2Between her snide little grin a the end of the interview and her grand statements about sexism they game is supposedly portraying to fifteen year olds, I've had enough of Mainstream News and video games. I'm old enough to understand that Children should not be playing Mass Effect, but since there is nothing in the game more violent or risque than a James Bond film, It might be suitable for a seventeen year old.
Yes the video game demographic is expanding, but the real gamers are still the 16-35 year olds, the real gamers are the ones who play Mass Effect. The young gamers are more interested in Pokemon, Mario and Sonic; And it is important for parents to keep games like Mass Effect, GTA and Manhunt away from their kids. All the major consoles now have content restriction options in the parental controls. The 360 even has tools to restrict time on the console so kids can't play more than their allotted time. All these features are protected by passwords or pin numbers that make it difficult for kids the break in, unless your the type of ***** who's password to their account is 12345678. It's not the internet where any moron can defraud a porn site by telling them that they were born on January 1st, 1987.
This same thing happened before, many times. First it was racial integration, then it was rock n' roll, then it was movies, then it was Led Zeppelin, then it was Rap... - skaldicpoet9, on 01/24/2008, -0/+3Actually the average age of a gamer these days is 33 years old. You can see for yourself here: http://www.theesa.com/facts/gamer_data.php
- Gir53457, on 01/24/2008, -0/+2Between her snide little grin a the end of the interview and her grand statements about sexism they game is supposedly portraying to fifteen year olds, I've had enough of Mainstream News and video games. - MrFisty, on 01/24/2008, -0/+18EA helping gamers? EA? Helping?
Head will explode in three, two, one...- Knucklecallus, on 01/24/2008, -0/+5One step ahead of you.
Well, this is quite the paradox, how the hell am I talking?
- Knucklecallus, on 01/24/2008, -0/+5One step ahead of you.
- TheLastFreeMan, on 01/24/2008, -0/+19Wow, it takes a VIDEO GAME for people to start demanding corrections from Fox News.
- bigdoglj52, on 01/24/2008, -13/+3THE RON PAUL REVOLUTION!
Fox really is bad though and people need to make them make more corrections to their corrupted system filled with close minded people- bluezinc, on 01/24/2008, -0/+3In no way is RP involved in this. Like the guy said above you, it took a damn video game for people to get mad about Fox News's lies.
- Petrarch1603, on 01/24/2008, -0/+2lonely blogger? umm kotaku is gawker media..not exactly lonely blogger
- Poltron, on 01/24/2008, -0/+1pwned
- wastedfish, on 01/24/2008, -3/+5You help Republicans.
You slander Democrats
You lie to the American people
You de-humanize Barak Obama
You support War
I hate you for this
But when you insult Video games
*****. Gets. Personal. - Knucklecallus, on 01/24/2008, -1/+3Guys, think this is a good enough review for Cooper's new book?
This rather dreadful text that does not deserve to even be published continuously rambles about the pros of child pornography, pedophilia, Satanistic sacrifice, and the tendencies of liberal voting. Quite frankly, Cooper has written a book that mirrors her personality, which is disgusting, rapacious, and horrific. I openly disparage her work, and I would advise her to start looking for a low-key job as Jack Thompson's sexual mistress, as she will soon need to find a new line of work.
- dsmx, on 01/23/2008, -0/+58I bet everyone feels so soiled being on the same side as EA.
- lotkrotan, on 01/23/2008, -6/+192Good work EA. These past couple years you've been upping your game. More new IPs, embracing the wii/ds with more than just gimmick controls, better ports, and now sticking up for your developers.
- iLemon, on 01/23/2008, -1/+26EA is not sticking up for the devs. They are protecting their investment in the IP. EA is producing at least two more Mass Effect titles.
- turpenine, on 01/24/2008, -2/+4There where going to be three mass effect titles before it was a hit.
- bluezinc, on 01/24/2008, -0/+7It was set up to be a hit from the get go, people have been talking about this game for years.
It's like how Hollywood tends to write movies in trilogies these days and if one is a hit, hey, we got three more coming down the pipeline.
- bluezinc, on 01/24/2008, -0/+7It was set up to be a hit from the get go, people have been talking about this game for years.
- Picaroon, on 01/24/2008, -1/+8Nah, I'd say they're sticking up for Mass Effect. There's no such thing as negative publicity; I'm guessing that showing alien sex on Fox only boosts interest in the game.
- FatLoser, on 01/24/2008, -1/+0"...alien sex..."
tell me more. I will make it clear, though, that i only support alien sex if both mexican chicks are hot.
- FatLoser, on 01/24/2008, -1/+0"...alien sex..."
- turpenine, on 01/24/2008, -2/+4There where going to be three mass effect titles before it was a hit.
- PixelCloud, on 01/24/2008, -5/+3And hopefully if they decide to involve more romantic subplots; they abolish the double standard embedded in it. Its OK to have lesbian sexual encounters, but there is no option for a gay one. I really think its terrible that they would do that.
- krd1979, on 01/24/2008, -1/+7Guess what? Most guys don't want to see any guy on guy action... they do however enjoy the girl on girl action. Having said that and the target audience being 17 - 40 year old males and you should be able to see why they made it the way they did.
- verto351, on 01/24/2008, -4/+3"Having said that and the target audience being 17 - 40 year old males and you should be able to see why they made it the way they did."
No, not really. - PixelCloud, on 01/24/2008, -3/+3Somehow I think that 17-40 year old males and the 17-40 year old homosexual population have overlap....
By excluding it the developers are basically saying, "its OK to be a lesbian, as long as a guy is getting off to it". I think the irony is that one of the major themes in the game is discrimination.
I think you are homophobic.- DarkShroud, on 01/24/2008, -3/+2I'm not homophobic, I just don't want to see 2 guys kissing * getting it on. 2 chicks on the other hand I don't mind.
- bemidia, on 01/24/2008, -1/+4@DarkShroud: Ever thought that you could just choose not to play the homosexual story arc? You're a backwards hypocritical ass.
And while most games are geared towards men, a lot of girls are picking up controllers too... And sometimes girls find gay men just as attractive as men find lesbians. - PixelCloud, on 01/25/2008, -0/+1Of course, no gay men play video games...
- verto351, on 01/24/2008, -4/+3"Having said that and the target audience being 17 - 40 year old males and you should be able to see why they made it the way they did."
- hansk, on 01/24/2008, -2/+3u sicken me
- krd1979, on 01/24/2008, -1/+7Guess what? Most guys don't want to see any guy on guy action... they do however enjoy the girl on girl action. Having said that and the target audience being 17 - 40 year old males and you should be able to see why they made it the way they did.
- gmprunner, on 01/24/2008, -0/+1Their next mission should be to fix texture popping and framerates. Both were a complete joke in Mass Effect, especially the texture popping. The rest of the game was great, though.
- Myonosken, on 01/24/2008, -0/+4EA are doing the right thing... *****, it's the rapture.
- iLemon, on 01/23/2008, -1/+26EA is not sticking up for the devs. They are protecting their investment in the IP. EA is producing at least two more Mass Effect titles.
- TalkingBanana, on 01/23/2008, -2/+334"As video games continue to take audiences away from television, we expect to see more TV news stories warning parents about the corrupting influence of interactive entertainment. But this represents a new level of recklessness."
...and the gloves come off...- innocentsinner, on 01/23/2008, -0/+22Ha! That's beautiful
- bwdd, on 01/24/2008, -1/+15more like the powergloves.
- doshindude, on 01/24/2008, -0/+1I love the power glove. It's so bad.
- elam82, on 01/24/2008, -0/+4Tell them how you feel:
yourcomments@foxnews.com - Jackar00, on 01/24/2008, -2/+1OH SNAP!
- hansk, on 01/24/2008, -2/+1OoOo yer such a bitch!!!
/lysp - samssf, on 01/24/2008, -2/+1Let's hope we never have to pay $100/mo just to play games... games riddled with advertisements.
- DupontNumber24, on 01/24/2008, -0/+0Yeah, it's on like Donkey Kong now!
- BearinG, on 01/28/2008, -0/+1Now I'm wondering how FOX will remedy this (if they actually do anything).. they'll probably blame their misinformation on someone else and make EA look bad
- Einchy, on 01/23/2008, -2/+85Awesome. That whole interview they had pissed the crap out of me. I hope they read this on their show.
- FlagrantDrugUse, on 01/23/2008, -2/+35"That whole interview they had pissed the crap out of me."
Does that mean they peed in your butt?- dasdef, on 01/24/2008, -1/+2haha i always call people out when they say that too. usually they say 'pissing the ***** out of me'
- superal1394, on 01/24/2008, -0/+4that would be painful
- dasdef, on 01/24/2008, -1/+2haha i always call people out when they say that too. usually they say 'pissing the ***** out of me'
- LuCiFer6, on 01/23/2008, -1/+11You hope they read this correction on air? This is FOX News home of the Devil Bill O'Reily. They'll never recant this story.
- superal1394, on 01/24/2008, -1/+2But Olberman might pick it up, and that will be hilarious.
- dansmeek, on 01/23/2008, -1/+8i honestly couldn't even watch the whole thing it disgusted me so much. as soon as they cut off the guy from spike tv and then went to the roundtable i had to stop it.
i even tried to watch it again, and as soon as heard a comparison to debbie does dallas had to turn it off again.- norman619, on 01/24/2008, -0/+16I love how that clueless woman actually said based on a study teen males can't tell the difference between a game and real life. That is priceless. If she has a degree in psychology I think it should be revoked for that idiotic comment.
- hockey, on 01/24/2008, -0/+5That's too bad that you had to stop the entire interview. Because ultimately they finished the interview by basically saying:
"Ultimately it's up to the parents to control what their kids watch and play and they need to be more involved. The government should not censor everything that comes through the internet or media. That's the parent's job"
- FlagrantDrugUse, on 01/23/2008, -2/+35"That whole interview they had pissed the crap out of me."
- mechakucha, on 01/23/2008, -4/+44Good job EA! Thanks for standing up these idiots who've had free reign too long and demanding the respect our industry deserves! I'm starting to forget why I hated EA a few years ago. Stuff like Orange Box, Rock Band, Bioware, now this just add to a new sense of fuzziness when I think about them, as opposed to the kind of sicking dislike of the old days.
- corourke, on 01/23/2008, -1/+19They only distributed the orange box. Valve is NOT owned by EA. Thank Valve Software for everything about the Orange box.
Ea is still gouging their employees but is showing signs (like this report) of going back to the great company they started as. I've got my fingers crossed.- treed, on 01/23/2008, -1/+5Valve didn't do the PS3 port.
- mechakucha, on 01/25/2008, -0/+1I know that of course. I was just using those games as an example of a positive trend of EA allying themselves with the light side.
- Metalteeth9, on 01/23/2008, -0/+9Same format with Rock Band. EA just distributed it, Harmonix essentially controlled it all.
- Malhavoc, on 01/23/2008, -0/+5Even so, EA has done a damn good job of handling the whole broken guitar situation (again, they only distributed them, they didn't make 'em). I filled out the online form right before Xmas and had my new guitar within a week.
- doshindude, on 01/24/2008, -0/+1gameFAQs forum users say different.....
- Malhavoc, on 01/23/2008, -0/+5Even so, EA has done a damn good job of handling the whole broken guitar situation (again, they only distributed them, they didn't make 'em). I filled out the online form right before Xmas and had my new guitar within a week.

- abhorredparadox, on 01/23/2008, -3/+22Great job, EA! I got so mad I actually wrote an e-mail to Cooper Lawrence, but honestly, Fox is just as much at fault for their shoddy practices.
- Mastro67, on 01/24/2008, -0/+1I sent her an email too. She never responded. haha.
- Audacitor, on 01/24/2008, -0/+2Not to pry, but can we see a copy of that letter?
- Trav3133, on 01/23/2008, -12/+5I was reading fox news and it turns out their are 27 species of them
- TalkingBanana, on 01/23/2008, -1/+3fail.
- cambob76, on 01/23/2008, -1/+41TV should be afraid. I'm pretty sure those +10M wow users watch a hell of a lot less TV than they used to. Not that I'd know anything about that personnally ;) And there isn't much to watch these days, even discounting the WGA strike. I'd rather be interacting with my entertainment than being force-fed commercials and recycled jokes...
- motorbreathx, on 01/24/2008, -0/+1I tried explaining my gaming hobby using this same analogy about interacting with my entertainment. Didn't work. :) Maybe someday.
- motorbreathx, on 01/24/2008, -0/+1I meant to say explain it to my wife. Oops.
- BearinG, on 01/28/2008, -0/+1I've got hundreds of channels.. and still have trouble finding anything good to watch..
Its giving me more and more reasons to go back to my computer and check the news there.. or play video games and interact somehow instead of just sitting there watching crap i don't want to watch.
- motorbreathx, on 01/24/2008, -0/+1I tried explaining my gaming hobby using this same analogy about interacting with my entertainment. Didn't work. :) Maybe someday.
- Wholekernalcorn, on 01/23/2008, -28/+5Hee hee....FOX did EA a great favor. If you don't know what it is...Then your stupid as hell...at least in the business sense.
- gluon, on 01/23/2008, -1/+21"your stupid as hell" - Irony for the win.
- Wholekernalcorn, on 01/23/2008, -11/+1You don't know very much about how to market a product do you?
- fredkreuger, on 01/23/2008, -0/+12*Whoosh*
- Scienceisfun, on 01/23/2008, -0/+6And the irony continues!
- Cdog923, on 01/24/2008, -0/+7Somebody buy this kid a hat with a net on it.
- Wholekernalcorn, on 01/23/2008, -11/+1You don't know very much about how to market a product do you?
- techeric, on 01/23/2008, -1/+5One who casts stupidity insults should learn the proper usage of the word "your."
- coffee200am, on 01/23/2008, -3/+1I know;-)..... But I'm interested to see who disagrees with you and how smart they are in business world....I doubt any of these squirts will ever guess what you mean....WKC
- techeric, on 01/23/2008, -0/+4"No publicity is bad publicity" ... Yeah, I get that. I'm not disagreeing with the idea; rather his poorly-executed expression.
- dansmeek, on 01/23/2008, -0/+7EA is a huge company and Bioware is a respected company as well. The game is going to sell well regardless and they don't want any negative PR associated with this FOX crap. I'm sure they'd gladly lose the addition 4 thousand copies of the game it would sell and have FOX retract the story. And that is being smart "in the business sense." Do you think a companies stock is purely driven by sales i.e. number of copies sold?
- gluon, on 01/23/2008, -1/+21"your stupid as hell" - Irony for the win.
- davidkeithjones, on 01/23/2008, -2/+171Wow! I'm cheering for EA? Ah WTF! Go EA, fight for the truth!
- cfulp, on 01/24/2008, -0/+3I'm right there with you man. It's very weird feeling...proud of EA.
- swaddict, on 01/23/2008, -1/+104Awesome "This isn't a legal threat" = The next letter will be a legal threat
- PedleZelnip, on 01/23/2008, -0/+5Totally, after reading the article I was surprised that they didn't *start* with the legal threat.
- Varz, on 01/24/2008, -0/+1I was hoping they would, at least it would make the morons think twice, I'm not sure if they will care too much about this letter.
Oh well if it doesn't stop the BS there's always next time. - superal1394, on 01/24/2008, -0/+1Some one at EA has their head on straight thats for damn sure. Its amazing to see too.
- smellytim, on 01/24/2008, -0/+1well it is slander right? so they could legally get those assholes at fox
- Varz, on 01/24/2008, -0/+1I was hoping they would, at least it would make the morons think twice, I'm not sure if they will care too much about this letter.
- PedleZelnip, on 01/23/2008, -0/+5Totally, after reading the article I was surprised that they didn't *start* with the legal threat.
- thejames, on 01/23/2008, -1/+54Good. I'm sick of the media blaming everything on video games.
- mitchlourens, on 01/23/2008, -0/+10I wrote a 10 page paper on how video games are not as bad for children as they may seem, and that people should consider the good parts about it.
Video games are not linked to violence, in fact, since 1990, teenage homicides have reduced by 77%, consequently, that's when video games have become popular.
I should put that paper on the internet, and send it to FOX.- andycr512, on 01/24/2008, -0/+1Exactly. This graph pretty much shows it. http://grumpygamer.com/images/vchart1.jpg
Now, correlation does not imply causation, but it certainly makes the case that even if games aren't the cause of the drop in violence, wouldn't the effect of whatever else was dropping the violent crime rate be canceled out by the advent of the evil video game?
- andycr512, on 01/24/2008, -0/+1Exactly. This graph pretty much shows it. http://grumpygamer.com/images/vchart1.jpg
- mitchlourens, on 01/23/2008, -0/+10I wrote a 10 page paper on how video games are not as bad for children as they may seem, and that people should consider the good parts about it.
- IAmLegend24, on 01/23/2008, -3/+63EA should sue Fox News for slander.
- jimmyb3, on 01/23/2008, -2/+22Dude, if it's on TV, it's libel.
- DJSPin047, on 01/24/2008, -1/+7No, it's slander.
- Rikushix, on 01/24/2008, -0/+1He's right, slander is spoken, libel is written.
- doshindude, on 01/24/2008, -0/+1it's both.
- elnerdo, on 01/23/2008, -0/+32In case you can't tell, this letter is the first step in building that case. First, they ask politely, and then if they don't receive an apology, they have a really nice stepping stone for their slander case. Fox won't be able to pull a "Oh, I'm so sorry! It was a mistake" defense if they've already said "We stand by our words."
- BearinG, on 01/28/2008, -0/+1But that's alright no ? I'm pretty sure I hate Fox more than I hate EA
- screwfanboys1, on 01/24/2008, -1/+2hell why not everyone should sue fox news for slander
- keneally, on 01/24/2008, -4/+1Suing someone for slander is about as productive as suing someone for littering. It's about good morals but it's more a costly effort than anything.
- coyoteblue, on 01/24/2008, -0/+1no it can actually be quite costly, and as long as it's on TV, it's still libel.
- Knucklecallus, on 01/24/2008, -0/+1The best thing is that it might actually work; they could build a pretty decent case.
- jimmyb3, on 01/23/2008, -2/+22Dude, if it's on TV, it's libel.
- poppieprong, on 01/23/2008, -1/+23Hey, that's cool; now I REALLY want to play the game!
- blindhammer, on 01/23/2008, -1/+5Don't! It's naughty naughty!
- Linua, on 01/24/2008, -0/+3You know, I knew not much about this game beforehand. I noticed on youtube today, this video of fox saying this nonsense, and now, I want to buy a 360 and mass effect. Thanks fox news, you've promoted a product you never ever would endorse! When will these morons learn anything? I think they seriously think that they know everything, and everyone should listen to every one of their opinions as if it was the holy word shat from god himself....
- ferrariman60, on 01/23/2008, -1/+24Never thought I'd be very happy for anything EA is doing anymore, but man. It's about damn time someone stood up for the truth. I might also point out that they are pretty much fully clothed for all but about 5 seconds on screen. I think I went through about 37 hours of gameplay to get there- it wasn't exactly the main mission of the game. An entertaining aside, sure. But this uproar over Mass Effect, when raises the bar for so many things in terms of gaming, is ridiculous.
- dyreschlock, on 01/23/2008, -8/+6Title inaccurate as the article clearly states the letter to Fox News 'asks', not 'demands' fairness
- Impact0115, on 01/24/2008, -3/+3Post buried as inaccurate as the post clearly omits a necessary period at the end of its sentence.
- chestertonb, on 01/23/2008, -1/+36To be honest the Fox version sounded better, I would have bought that.
- funnydale, on 01/23/2008, -2/+56I bet 10 bucks that Fox News doesn't bother to issue a retraction unless EA actually threatens a lawsuit.
And even then, this is the same news network that once sued for the right to lie during a newscast....and won.
http://news.propeller.com/story/2006/10/10/fox-new ...- opnickc, on 01/24/2008, -0/+9I can see their headline now;
"Video game company sues news station for warning parents of a sexually explicit game."
- opnickc, on 01/24/2008, -0/+9I can see their headline now;
- WasabiBomb, on 01/23/2008, -4/+165EA versus Fox? It's like watching the Borg Collective go up against the Death Star- you don't know who to cheer for, but you know it's gonna be a lot of pretty explosions.
- MadTom, on 01/23/2008, -0/+41Don't know about you, but I'd be rooting EA all the way.
- Flak88, on 01/23/2008, -0/+13Go EA. I'm starting to think that Activision is the new Borg anyway.
- FXPooky, on 01/24/2008, -1/+2Personally I think Activision's become the biggest sellout now with things like Guitar Hero 3 being essentially the same as Guitar Hero 2, or Call of Duty games coming out every year, with one out of two being total crap (3, 5, and so on).
- Menace1, on 01/24/2008, -0/+2Grats on the nerdiest analogy of the day. Oh so true my friend. That one made me smile, thanks.
- Rikushix, on 01/24/2008, -0/+1As much as EA has a reputation for being university grad sweat shops (I hail from Vancouver, you see), I've always liked EA. I toured EA's Vancouver HQ a year ago, went behind the scenes...it was fascinating. Still...I'd rather work at Valve.
- ultraJesus, on 01/23/2008, -1/+17Its about damn time that game companies started standing up to this bias in the media. This is one of those times where companies like EA can do a lot of good because of their large size and aggressive business model.
- Magnus150, on 01/23/2008, -1/+32It felt funny agreeing with the giant megacorp EA for once. It felt...tingly, and kinda nice.
- DavidGuetta9, on 01/23/2008, -0/+29In the actual fox news story, that chick with the black hair said " watching this [Mass Effect] made me feel old. what happened to pong (and others)?"
I was like WTF? you're at least 25, Mass Effect should make you feel young- solid12345, on 01/24/2008, -1/+2I'm with her, i'm 24 and I feel old with alot of these games. I remember when I PLAYED video games and didn't watch hours of cut scenes. If I wanted to do that I would rent a movie.
- getontop, on 01/24/2008, -0/+1or you could open your eyes when you buy a game.
- BearinG, on 01/28/2008, -0/+1I'm 24 and have no idea what you guys are talking about.. no way i feel "old".. I kick ass more than ever
- solid12345, on 01/24/2008, -1/+2I'm with her, i'm 24 and I feel old with alot of these games. I remember when I PLAYED video games and didn't watch hours of cut scenes. If I wanted to do that I would rent a movie.
- exomni, on 01/23/2008, -10/+1Fox New's existence a testament to all that is wrong with human kind. I mean, Al-Qaeda, Ted Bundy, Hitler, none are as tangible, obvious evidence of the absolute scum that is humanity as Fox News.
- Fragarach87, on 01/23/2008, -1/+61Personally I think EA should sue Fox claiming damages, demand an apology, and that Fox on air admits the mistake and corrects their audience. One boob is not FULL nudity.
- SnowBladerX, on 01/23/2008, -0/+13Pretty sure most kids saw a lot more when they were breast feeding :D
- PixelCloud, on 01/24/2008, -0/+5There wasnt even nipple!!!
- jo21, on 01/24/2008, -2/+0its when it happens alot of times.
- Linua, on 01/24/2008, -0/+4Foxnews themselves show more nudity on live tv than this game does. ***** hypocrites.
- steve693, on 01/23/2008, -3/+20Can you hear that Fox News? That's the sound of you getting OWNED by Jeff Brown.
- ChinezePanda, on 01/23/2008, -7/+61Never thought I would see the day that I would be rooting for EA. But I literaly lost 7 hours of sleep when I watched that broadcast a few days ago.
What Fox has done to slander this game is downright wrong. With their slogan "Fair and Balanced" you think they would research the game and its content a lot more before proceeding to label it as Mass Porn Effect.
I wrote and sent a direct letter to Mr Rupert Murdock himself to correct his networks "reporting" and sent the statements from EA as well as a little over a Thousand user testimonials. I have not gotten back a reply, but since he had to sign for it... I am a little optimistic that he recieved it.
All in All...
What the media does to target the Video Game industry is DESPICABLE!!!
The countless Commercials for male and female enhancement, Victoria Secret, and countless Sex acts on prime time network television.. which is DIRECTLY EXPOSED TO OUR CHILDREN... IS FAR WORSE THAN A GAME THAT CAN ONLY BE BOUGHT BY 17 YEAROLDS AND OLDER.
Fox.. Get your facts straight.. get them straight quick.. Cause You are soon to be blacklisted...
this list will soon include: Replacing Gamespot as number 1...

- espempire, on 01/23/2008, -3/+6no way, FOX actually didnt do their homework before reporting? Wait they didnt report actual facts... Now thats news to me...
too bad EA is not owned by CoS, they would be sued 15 different ways by now - Shissy, on 01/23/2008, -2/+13I ***** hate Fox news. Just because they have nothing to report on doesn't mean they can take some small modern things and blow it up out of proportion. More than half the stuff on fox is worse than the 30 second seen in Mass Effect.. Why don't they go report how Family Guy is making kids stupider (probably is).. oh wait they are supporting it.
- vibrokatana, on 01/23/2008, -0/+5This is like watching two people you hate about to beat each other up. You sit back, grab some popcorn and prepare for a good fight.
- control98408, on 01/23/2008, -1/+4It was a nice attempt, but futile in the end. Fox isn't going to do anything, and even if they do, the damage has already been done.
- Kajico, on 01/23/2008, -2/+2I think Fox needs to get a flood of emails with nothing but a copy of this letter. So that they can't ignore it.
- fireheadklepto, on 01/23/2008, -2/+0Looks like Jeff Brown already taped her mouth open and SLAMMED HER FACE INTO THE TRUTH!!!
PWND!!! - fani, on 01/23/2008, -1/+12***** Fox.
Its a sad state of affairs wherein even living in the 21st century we have to clarify on the most basic human nature of Love and sex.
And I hate the dual standards - TV today is full of love/sexual innuendos/display but when its on video games, its suddenly - Protect the children.
***** them. I will protect my own children in a way I deem morally/socially fit. I don't need anyone to tell me. - slicecom, on 01/23/2008, -3/+8Does anyone actually take FOX News seriously? I view it as satire. If you believe anything on FOX News is true and unbiased, you're either stupid and ignorant or sorely misinformed.
- JagoX, on 01/23/2008, -0/+3...and if you believe that everything on CNN, MSNBC, etc. are all true and unbiased then you are also stupid & ignorant or sorely misinformed.

Youtube link to the Fox news "report" on Mass Effect.- Neticule, on 01/24/2008, -0/+6thanks man
- trunk8, on 01/24/2008, -0/+1Thanks, hadn't seen the whole thing yet. Unbelievable. What's up with the panel chick at the end "I don't get why this game didn't get an AO rating." Well, because then the game wouldn't have been released on Microsoft's console. And therein lies the problem, they market the Xbox 360 to adults ($300-400, High Definition, Mature games) but then completely ban AO titles from the console. If the AO rating was allowed, we would see a lot of games get that rating (though, probably still not Mass Effect).
But in the end, the AO rating wouldn't change anything just like the Mature rating doesn't change anything....the rating system isn't going to ***** raise your KIDS for you! If you honestly think AO ratings is the answer to this problem, you shouldn't be breeding. EA should make an example of Fox News for this stupid *****.
- Giolon, on 01/23/2008, -2/+1This may be the first and last time I ever say this: GO EA!
- mrelusive, on 01/23/2008, -2/+1You called down the thunder, now reap the whirlwind.
- Higgles, on 01/23/2008, -2/+0Utter B.S.
- duckonquack, on 01/23/2008, -1/+1"This isn't a legal threat; it's an appeal to your sense of fairness. We're asking FNC to correct the record on Mass Effect."
LOL GOOD LUCK. (I really do hope it works though -.-) - darkstar07, on 01/23/2008, -1/+1Glad EA is backing us up to show these assholes at FOX that you don't mess with gamers. Hope other companies take notice and join in the fight.
- angrynorwegian, on 01/23/2008, -1/+1way to tell those ignorant douchebags..
- Treoinmypocket, on 01/23/2008, -21/+1Point #1 - Fact: Mass Effect does not include explicit or frontal nudity. Love scenes in non-interactive sequences include side and profile shots - a vantage frequently used in many prime-time television shows. It's also worth noting that the game requires players to develop complex relationships before characters can become intimate and players can chose to avoid the love scenes altogether.
From the BBFC website: MASS EFFECT is a role playing game and shooter set in the future in space. The player controls either a male or female American soldier through a long and involved story line, making choices along the way. The game has been classified at '12' for moderate violence and one sex scene.
The violence is undetailed and takes place in a futuristic setting. The single sex scene is brief and undetailed, although there is breast nudity in one version of the scene. The sex scene is triggered by the player making a series of choices about becoming more than friends with a colleague. If playing as a male character the scene can take place between him and a human woman or a humanoid female alien. If playing as a female character the scene can take place between her and a male human or a female humanoid alien.
The game also contains use of the word 'bastard' and at least one aggressive use of the word 'bitch'. Both of which are acceptable under BBFC Guidelines at '12'.
Points awarded to FOX. "New videogame shows full digital nudity and sex." The game indeed shows sex and breast nudity. Sex is optional and can be performed in hetero or bisexual mode.
Point #2 - Fact: Sex scenes in Mass Effect are not graphic. These scenes are very similar to sex sequences frequently seen on network television in prime time.
Points split - FNC voice-over reporter says: "You'll see full digital nudity and the ability for players to engage in graphic sex." There is frontal nudity but not full. Players can engage in sex. "Graphic" is a relative term.
Point #3 - Fact: That is flat out false. Mass Effect and all related marketing has been reviewed by the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) and rated Mature - appropriate for players 17-years and older. ESRB routinely counsels retailers on requesting proof of age in selling M-rated titles and the system has been lauded by members of Congress and the Federal Trade Commission. In practical terms, the ratings work as well or better than those used for warning viewers about television content.
Points to Fox with advisement. - "Critics say Mass Effect is being marketed to kids and teenagers." FOX isn't saying it, anonymous critics are. This is obviously an old news game and it is played by all news outlets. It is also beyond reproach because critics are - in fact - saying it. Similarly, EA's claims that it ISN'T being marketed to kids and there "proof" via the ESRB, etc. is also a game. Of course it isn't specifically marketed to kids. Just like Joe Camel isn't SPECIFICALLY promoting smoking to kids. Do we really believe EA, other gaming companies, the tobacco industry on this point? No.
Net? Fox wins EA loses.- bonjovisucks, on 01/23/2008, -0/+6I hope you're being sarcastic.
If not, way to run with semantics. Nothing better to do, eh? Either way, you're buried. - NathanielJ, on 01/23/2008, -0/+13"FOX isn't saying it, anonymous critics are."
Have you ever watched Fox News? They use phrases like "critics say..." or "some people say..." when they want to spin stuff and cover their asses. Find one of these so-called critics (other than Fox News reporters/correspondents) who says that Mass Effect is being marketed to kids and teenagers? And what does "being marketed to kids/teenagers" even mean? Are they offering ice cream with each purchase of the game?- Shanobi, on 01/24/2008, -3/+0It's called reporting, moron.
When other people are making claims, and you state that, it's reporting. God damn stupid people.- NathanielJ, on 01/24/2008, -0/+2Again, watch Fox News for crying out loud. Hell, even just watch Outfoxed. Ex-reporters from Fox have admitted to doing this themselves, because they were told to.
- Shanobi, on 01/24/2008, -3/+0It's called reporting, moron.
- Pix869, on 01/23/2008, -0/+5I'm not sure, but I /think/ you're an idiot, so I logged in to digg you down. :)
I'm also going to do my part to digg up the people this fool might have buried, starting with bonjovisucks, above me.- MacEnvy, on 01/23/2008, -0/+4Yep, that's pretty much how digg works.

- CarzorStelatis, on 01/23/2008, -1/+4'insulting and error riddled.'
If that justifies a correction then Faux News would just have to shut down - it would do nothing /but/ issue corrections from dawn until dusk :P- Shanobi, on 01/24/2008, -2/+0"Blood, Language, Partial Nudity, Sexual Themes, Violence"
From the game's own packaging. The EA exec saying there's no nudity in the game is called a LIE. There IS frontal nudity, and there ARE the things they reported.
***** A, I'm sick of jack asses who just willy nilly defend anything the ***** game industry says when they feel picked on.
*****!
- Shanobi, on 01/24/2008, -2/+0"Blood, Language, Partial Nudity, Sexual Themes, Violence"
- libhatefulhead, on 01/23/2008, -2/+6LOL! FOX news just advertised big time for EA....Sex sells...and don't you think that EA doesn't know it. Free advertising that doesn't cost a dime.
- coffee200am, on 01/23/2008, -0/+2You guessed it! They cut poor WKC down in the above thread. I think she was trying to say the same thing. What better way to sell a game than to have a major news network come out and say it's got nudity in it!
- brukaoru, on 01/23/2008, -1/+3Congrats to EA to standing up for this utter bull crap segment on Fox News, which was just a promotion gig for Lawrence Cooper's book.
- bobakanush, on 01/24/2008, -0/+1Un-Freaking believable eh

- bob889, on 01/23/2008, -1/+4I could say so many things about the people at that table on Fox News, I'm fuming right now. Did they ever stop to think of the poor souls who made the game and got good ratings on it but then had to get shot down by freaking Fox News! They insulted a game that they know nothing about in any sense at all. It's like they just walked into a store and took a game off the shelf and said "Hey! this looks like a perfect game to bash for no apparent reason whatsoever".
- xXGeechXx, on 01/23/2008, -2/+5Regardless of how stupid Fox looks for putting this up.. You know what they say, any publicity is good publicity...
This is win-win for EA espeically if fox fixes there error - MadTom, on 01/23/2008, -1/+4I'd really love to know where FOX gets their resources from, Jack Thompson working on the inside?
- aimhelix, on 01/24/2008, -0/+2No dude, in this case, they passed by an eBgames store, saw the cover and came up w/the conclusion. Pretty much in line with the way they do their news.
- edjenkins234, on 01/23/2008, -1/+6Wow that game looks awesome, I cant believe I hadn't heard much about it.
I'll be picking this game up later today :)
