- Polymira, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14No, it's a shame that you won't get a 360, you're missing out.
- Rethcir, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11It's true sir, the Kilrathi have invisible fighters!
- TiMMY8765, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10more info and screenshots here
http://wcnews.com/ - xxx420xxx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Uh, you can defeat the Kilrathi if you drop a bomb on their planet that causes all their tectonic plates to shake, rattle and/or roll.
At that point, Mark Hamil will be like "Kill me I don't care" and the Kilrathi will be like "Naw bro, you are the Heart of the Tiger; you destroyed our homeworld. Our bad bro".
After which point you will have to defend the felines from new threats because they're all destitute and *****.. oh well
And to think... they all laughed at you when you claimed cloaked ships took out the Tiger's Claw... those were hard times man.. defending a security station in the ***** of space... and Admiral Tolwyn was black back then... damn - Mofassa, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9"Damn you Captain, DAMN YOU TO HEELLLLL!!!" - Maverick (I think) - WC2 - Vengence of the Kilrathi
Man I was obsessed with the first 3 wing commanders...and prophecy. I lost my copy of WC prophecy and have yet to be able to find it. As great as freespace was, wing commander just held a spot that made it by far the best space fighter series ever. - CrimsonBlur, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Screw this, I want Wing Commander III and IV updated with modern graphics using high-res video! Seriously, those games were amazing! The funniest part is the movie sequences for either of those games was 10x better than the Hollywood movie. I didn't really like Prophecy all that much. Of course we would need a real nice flight joystick released with those games...
And I agree with the person a few posts above me, except I think a NEW Descent game would be awesome! - nuclearpenguins, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I hope to someday see another true Wing Commander game. Hopefully it would take place during the Kilrathi war because that was when the series was at it's best.
- handler, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Awesome news, now all that needs to be put on XBLA is space quest! :)
- flippedcracker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8ah, the good old days of gaming. wing commander, decent, privateer, x-wing vs tie-fighter, etc. all on my 3dfx Voodoo II :sigh:
- TiMMY8765, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8you're thinking of Zero Wing
- trer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7With the impeccable Mark Hamill as Colonel Christopher Blair!
Use the forks, Homer! - TiMMY8765, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Hobbes was a dirty traitor (WC3)
Also, freelancer was a great game - trer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I would also love to see Roger Wilco battle it out with Sludge Vohaul on XBLA!
- VPurpmalkV, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Awesome for me, I just got my 360. I almost crapped my pants when I read this. It must have been fate.
- barktwiggs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5What we really need is Privateer ported to the XBOX 360. Space Pirates rule!
- wilf_brim, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3OK, this gets me excited. I've been waiting for years for another good space sim, preferably in the Wing Commander universe. Bonus points if Ginger Lynn Allen makes a re-appearance.
- VeganG, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4What you say?
- sweeper1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3You cannot defeat the Kilrathiiiii!!!! I loved that game...
I think it took 2 hours of swapping disks and another 6-8 for it to uncompress during the install...and thats only if disk 20 wasn't corrupted...I know you know what i'm talking about...
That game (WC2) was smokin on my 386 16mhz with 256k of RAM :) actually i think it barely ran...ahh the memories.. - l0tharnt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Joy! *tear* moment of retro game nostalgia there.
- mnemonix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I loved the fmv wing commander 3, they actually put a planet in it at the end !! lol
- unknown32, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I would like to see privateer also get a XBLA release. (I am excluding what digital anvil did...)
- estvir, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6As much as I love Wing Commander, give me Descent !
- ithon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Luca Arts ripped off wing commander

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:X-Wing-Cockpit.png X-wing (looks more like a Ferret class, but I can't find a pic of the cockpit) - ultimate_ed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Alright, I loved the Wing Commander games. Got my first Sound Blaster Pro 8bit ISA soundcard just for the original Wing Commander and I upgraded my PC to a 486-33 to play WC2. I'd love to see some new real Wing Commander games that went back to the spirit of those first couple.
But, looking at those screenshots....well, they look like @$$. What is up with those colors? - Tremblor, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3i remember the (i think) 8 cd fmv game, and spending hours and hours downloading the free game they put out (yay 56k dial up!). I Loved X-Wing vs Tie Fighter for this very reason, and I'm a little excited. There was an old non-linear space game called Privateer that i loved, but never made the jump from my 486. Ah well.
- rootxploit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Privateer is on every PC platform- isn't that enough:
http://wcuniverse.sourceforge.net/
http://www.priv.solsector.net/ - Aharoni, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Man, I loved Wing Commander... I remember first playing Privateer, getting my ass kicked in my first encounter...
Then I finished Wing Commander (I can STILL remember the music when everyone are running towards the ships... and the Kilrathi theme song from Wing Commander II) and kicked ass in Privateer...
These were fun times...
Wing Commander IV was awesome - movie quality, great characters, all in all - an awesome game.
Privateer II was nice, Freelancer was better.
Conflict/Descent:Freespace was the spiritual successor of Wing Commander (even though there were no FMVs), though Freespace II seemed to have lower production values (how could that be?). - xxx420xxx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2To hell with Hobbes! That bitch couldn't choose a side. It brought great satisfaction blowing his ship into the ground, errr, cold ass space.
- xxx420xxx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@mrfatalistic
That was Malcolm John Taylor, better know as Malcolm McDowell from "A Clockwork Orange" fame.
Yeah, he pretty much rules... - KingAdrock, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2hey hey, all these months of having this avatar finally pays off! Hobbes ruled!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2i'm still waiting for worms, dammit
- xxx420xxx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@ultimate ed
The first WC was the reason I got a Sound Blaster too. Well, the reason I pressured my dad into buying one lol... - AtraSolis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Gamespot has a preview up:
http://www.gamespot.com/xbox360/sim/wingcommanderarena/news.html?sid=6166308&om_act=convert&om_clk=multimodule&tag=multimodule;picks;story;1
I'm not too excited about 3rd person, powerups and what is with only one plane of space? I played the original but can't remember if it suffered from the same handicap - regardless, I can't stand one dimensional space games. - Topher06, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Dissapointing. I have been hoping for another release of a good space shooter for years now. I don't care if it was a Wing Commander or something new, just bring back the genre. What was enjoyable about these games was the cinematic quality of the story, with actual filmed movie cut scenes. When you boil it down, anybody can make a space shooter with cross hairs and a HUD (there are lots of flash and PC games like this), but what made Wing Commander great was immersing yourself in the story, it actually gave the gameplay more edge. With this "Arena" approach, its just going to be, go online, shoot anything that flies by your crosshairs, rack up points, end the game. Boring. Like every other game franchised that has whored themselves out to online gameplay, this will be another. Most game companies don't even bother with story writers anymore, its just arena this and tournament that, and MMORPGs with generic rehashed plots all around.
After they redid Battlestar Galactica I though for sure that they would develop a space shooter game based on that franchise. You can even put 3rd person shooter levels in the game too (i.e. land on Cylon ship or occupied planet, blow toasters away with assorted goodness), but at least keep the story line cinematic and immersive.
Games need to become more cinematic if they are going to survive. Just selling a game that uses the same gameplay elements as 10 years ago but making it "multiplayer" isn't going to bring long term success, people want more out of there games these days then 10 minutes of adreniline rush and being trashed talked by some punk 3000 miles away. You can always include the online multiplayer spastic shootem up version of the game, but bring back the single player immerisve story driven gameplay, its missed. I would bet that half the gaming market likes story driven games, the other half prefer spastic multiplayer action, there is room for both. I seldom buy PC games these days because most are focused on spastic multiplayer action, most companies are losing sales to half the market. - Wireddd, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3I hope zero wing gets added to xbla
- Wytefang, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Ah but the console kiddies love that kind of thing. Don't you see that? That's where the industry marketing experts expect us to want to be - in a dumbed down gimmicky controller kind of world, where games are all mass-market, licensed properties that focus on either sports or urban thuggery simulations. Pathetic.
- mutantmagnet, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2So I get dugg down for expressing the fact I can't acquire a classic because I have limited funds and as a result can only choose one console. There are some very mature fanboys in the digg community...
- DeepFreezed, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1another game for EA scum to ruin
- ArchonSG, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Nah, bring it on Freespace Style. (Kiltratis on the verge of extinction, humans doing what they do best, killing each other and 1/3 into the story a new threat (Nephilim) emerges to bring some of the best space sim action to date)
Redo Prophecy and finish it this time damn it!
More missions, better tighter story and close the Wing Commander saga with style. Don't let that frakking movie release be the epitaph that was once a great series. - Wytefang, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Despite owning a 360, I'm completely not interested in this version of the series. Make a better effort and put it back on the PC in an all-new DX10 engine and we might care, EA. Otherwise, yawn...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Whats next on the list Frogger, Frostbite, PitFall......
My wish list for Xbox live Arcade
Faxanadu, Double Dragon, Commando, Time Warriors, Boy and his Blob, Russia Attack, - disintegration, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0I thought these games were great back in the day, but going back to them years later the gameplay is horrible. X-wing and Tie Fighter were the best
- MrFatalistic, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1It's been a long long time since I played wing commander (and I only played #4 at that I think (whichever was the one with the evil british dude from Star Trek Generations)) but the screenshots resemble Starlancer the most, anyone ever play that? That game was AWESOME, too bad freelancer sucked ass.
- strictnein, on 10/12/2007, -10/+3And by "summer" the XBLA crew typically means "we have no f'en clue, maybe sometime within the next 12 months or so...or it may never show up... but here's an old rehash of a boring old game to keep you happy in the mean time".
- foolishblue, on 10/12/2007, -12/+1All your xbox are belong to us
- mutantmagnet, on 10/12/2007, -16/+2A shame, since I won't get a 360.
