- Maasneotek, on 10/12/2007, -1/+143In simple terms, the update of the fantastically buggy "EA Downloader" from EA replaced itself with a newer version. This process also deleted all pertinent information having to do with your battlefield 2142 CD key. You cannot reinstall because INSTALLER for the game itself is deleted. Imagine going to play a game only to find out you had to RE-download a 2gb file.
Its not a blanket problem however, individuals who purchased a hard copy of 2142 instead of online can just reinstall, and there are rumors of several registry hacks that can restore playability, but no official method of re-enabling the game exists, not even a "hey we screwed up". (not even a whoops)
What makes me angry, what pisses me off, what AMAZES me is that with all the bad press, crappy service and blunders this company is making- they keep doing it. I'm not one to rant about the atrocities of abusive companies but this really needs to be said, EA really doesn't care. EA is putting the burden of quality on the customer. What the hell? Everything has their bugs, and patches, but is it my imagination, or is EA getting WORSE? - inactive, on 12/26/2008, -4/+86That's why I chose to boycott EA's crap :). I advise you to to the same thing...
- foolfromhell, on 10/12/2007, -1/+47Steam is not nearly this buggy!
- instant0, on 10/12/2007, -1/+46As a EA Downloader Customer of BF2142 I must say that this has taught me a VERY important lesson.
NEVER - EVER - BUY - ANOTHER - EA - GAME - FOR - AS -LONG - AS - YOU - LIVE
And should they have a EB Games in Hell stocked with FIFA 2064 and whatnot, I will not buy it there either. - AkatsukiNoTobi, on 10/12/2007, -8/+49I really want to boycott EA Games, but Crysis is on its way. =(
If EA Games screws over Crysis like they did with BF2142, then someone will pay! - Hydroxyl, on 10/12/2007, -2/+41I think that Crytek should go back to Ubisoft... This is just unbelieveable.
- fldash, on 10/12/2007, -4/+40Who bought BF2142 anyway; only those who are begging for a bludgeoning. How quickly you forgot about all the 1942 addons and BF2 with it's booster packs. 1942 was the best game in the series simply because it was done before EA had too much influence. Now look at the crap being produced. Stop supporting EA and their attempt to completely ruin the gaming industry.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+36I have boycotted EA for good. I refuse to buy anything of theirs again.
bf 2 was a nightmare. It made me appreciate Valve - fauxXenophanes, on 10/12/2007, -3/+32How 'bout if we just give the ***** V 1.0 away for free, then charge for all the updates ?
- txrat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+29sweet jeebus, EA is publishing Spore??
..I was looking forward to the game - ChileanGoD, on 10/12/2007, -0/+25***** *****... Somebody up there hates me. Spore is made by EA :(
well... at least there's still UT2K7 that's not owned by EA.... yet. - SteelChicken, on 10/12/2007, -2/+27Seriously. Who is planning on buying BF1942 service pack 3? eg 2142.
I was stupid enough to buy BF2, but wont fall for it again. - senorBojangles, on 10/12/2007, -1/+24The problem extends to any game you buy which required "activation" to function, DRM is the real enemy, but companies than employ it so restrictively and shoddily are guilty as well.
- Ascendant, on 10/12/2007, -0/+23Agreed... having bought all the previous Unreal Tournaments, it really drove home how much EA sucks in comparison.
With every UT release, you get:
* FREE bonus packs (yes, as in more than 1) of new maps every few months
* Extensive mod support. With UT2K4 they had a contest for people creating mods and other new content and ponied up $1 Million in prizes. As a result, we got lots of mods, and even got populated servers running them.
* An ad-free game playing experience
* A game that actually works when you run it! - neutrascrub, on 10/12/2007, -5/+28not on a college campus
- RandomSkratch, on 10/12/2007, -4/+25You meant to say Valve right?
Steam is a product - mbthompson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+19Two words, Quake Wars.
Two more, SCREW EA! - GawtMilk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19-.-
Go to start, run, type "regedit"
Click the plus sign next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
Click the plus sign next to Software.
Click the plus sign next to Electronic Arts.
Click the plus sign next to EA Games.
Click the plus sign next to Battlefield 2142.
Click on the ergc. On the right panel screen, double click on default.
You should see a code under Value Data.
Enter x9392 at left most part of the code. (eg. x9392DH34DF78WE35BV78AS69)
Click OK - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -7/+24This is why I wanted nothing to do with BF2. EA rode the Battlefield Series into the ground.
- KWhat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16I believe what you mean is mod v3, service pack 3 would imply they fixed bugs along the way!
- Draje, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15I'm glad I was smart and didn't buy this POS.
- rick2k, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13i was dumb enough to buy bf2 and put up with many horrific patches
glad i haven't bought 2142 as i knew this ***** would happen. :) - wisedude, on 10/12/2007, -10/+23BIT TORRENT IS YOUR FRIEND!
- ElRayQuieres, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11I bought BF2142 online (I know, dumb move in many ways), and it works fine after the update to EA Link... Scratch that, it works as it did before the EA Link update.. that is, it works like any unfinished game developed by seriously neglected, overworked programmers should.
- shinynew, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13but Crysis is.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12TF2 coming out soon!!!
- ChileanGoD, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Can't wait for Team Fortress 2
- randomvictim, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10I am so ridiculously pissed off at EA. It automatically uninstalled EA downloader and installed EA Link. I can't connect to the EA Link server for whatever reason, so now I can't even redownload the game to fix their CD key problem.
- Pseudo98, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Steam used to be this buggy, if not worse... the service was unusable for days at a time in the early days, Valve learnt from their lessons though, EA however never will, not as long as the money keeps rolling into their account.
I am a big fan of BF2 (aviator whore) but the patches where bollocks, the game is buggy and the whole thing still doesn't 'feel' right. Plus it was very obvious that support for BF2 was suffering during the development of BF2142 while the bulk of the developers time was concentrated on that product.
Personally, I am boycotting BF2142 I might pay it some attention in six months after some patches are out but I don't see the value in paying full price for a game which is effectively a mod for an engine with inherent problems. Somehow I manage to not buy barely any EA games except for the Battlefiled series otherwise i would be fuming at EA as opposed to thinking that they are a bunch of *****.
I won't miss BF2142, especially not when I get my Wii in a month and a half :) - postal21, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9You keep forgetting that once they have your money... they dont ***** care.
You can't return software once its opened to the store, so they will never have to deal with customer service in terms of returns.
You buy their product, it sucks ass, its your fault. This is a serious issue that needs to be addressed. If a game does not live up to what its described to be, then you should be able to get your money back.
So im sure all you poor saps that purchased 2142 will be enjoying the slow trickle of patches as EA forces DICE to work on battlefield-2142 expansion packs. "Dont worry, we have some wicked new jeeps planned!". Ahem, some people can't even connect to the server... "but, we got new jeeps, and cool parachutes!". Sorry, I bought 1942 because it was a new and interesting game, I bought BF2 cuz I fell for the hype, I wont be purchasing 2142. - xNaquada, on 10/12/2007, -4/+13Download crysis. listen to the news and reviews. If everything is good buy it. Power of the internet! Haven't been screwed for a game purchase for about 5 years now...(unfortunately I havent bought amny games because of the sheer amount of crap out there.)
- FearNoEvil, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10I decided not to buy BF2142 when I learned EA wasn't going to support native widescreen resolutions. Then when I heard about the crap they were pulling with the demo and how the retail game would have ads in it I decided that EA can go to hell.
- justinsuperstar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8As if the prospect of in-game advertising wasn't exciting enough! Now we get two installs for the price of one! Thank you EA for making gaming exciting again!
- cdawzrd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Usually you say that products are buggy, not companies. In this case, the comparison was between EA downloader and Steam
- RandomSkratch, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10But wait... how can you break something that is already broken? Double-break? I gotta check my Orwellian dictionary..
- GeneralFailure0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8If you don't want to hear people complaining about EA, why the hell are you here?
- shinynew, on 10/12/2007, -5/+12Crysis and spore..
- damentz, on 10/12/2007, -7/+13EA is a prime example of bad coding, notice how you can't get their simple games running in wine. Thats sad.
Blizzard on the other hand is a prime example of good coding. No ***** and their apps works in wine flawlessly(before WOW).
So how do we fix this? Get a gentoo addict in EA. Something crazy will happen after the first month. - MindTrigger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I hear this crap from people all the time lately. Complacency is not the answer. We should not have to wait a year to have a working game. All of you who spew stuff like this only add to EAs apathy towards their customers.
EA: "Ahh *****, just release an Alpha version to these stupid monkey gamers. They will pay us for the game and find all the bugs so we don't have to pay for proper QA."
Jesus, I'm already boycotting SOE. I guess EA is next. - MonkeyjoeBla, on 10/12/2007, -6/+12"I thought EA bought Valve..."
Nope, EA is only their publisher. - SilentBobSC, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6LMAO... this is the EXACT reason I chose not to buy BF2142... I got a taste with BF:V and BF2 confirmed it, EA Doesn't know jack sh!t about releasing quality code to an online-based game "We'll just 'fix' it later with another patch, now publish it and let's get our $$!"
EA is effectively, single-handedly, killing PC Gaming. - antonio97b, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7I'm done with the Battlefield series after BF 2. Nothing is more infurating than shooting some MEC in the face three times and he in turn, plugs you in the face one time with his pistol.
BF2 has some of the worst hitboxes I have ever seen. And they never, ever fix em. - suicidal-kid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6"TF2 Coming soon"
Let's check the time conversion chart:
http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Valve_Time - SilentBobSC, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Basically, EA came in, bought DICE, gutted the group (many left as well) and then replaced them with their own DeVry flunk-outs... This is all on EA... they should take a tip from Valve and not release until the game is finished. I am so glad I didn't buy this game now, the demo was chock full o' bugs and was a bit of a tip off as to final build quality.
- TekeeTakShak, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6This definitely deserves a Digg. People need to see what exactly is going on, and EA's been ***** up big time recently.
Anyone play the campaign on the 360 version for Battlefield 2: MC? What the hell's up with that? I know some people that have beat it, but nevertheless, I can say that it was one of the most unbearable pieces of ***** I've played since Superman 64. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+11works great at my school
- TiMMY8765, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5um, did you just give us your cd key
- azzkicar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Amen. If I see any game made by EA I won't buy it. Simple as that. Let the backlash begin!
- bdmbdm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4@Robonia
How nice of EA, now people are definatly going to screw up their Windows by playing in the registry! - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4pwned by idiots at EA. Sorry to all those affected, it would royally piss me off too.
