- tracer200, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3ok, I have had this game for 3 weeks, the game has also been out on torrent networks for 2 weeks, to use the code, enter the code as your name when you start the game, then the game will prompt you to enter another name to play the game by, then start game with BFG gun, peace

Probably the reason that you don't play this game is because it's not out yet.
Call me crazy, but it's just a wild guess. - bordo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Okay, so after reading some of the responses to my first post, I've decided to delve deeper into why this game just didn't do it for me.
Again, I didn't hate this game. It was a solid game that had some tense moments and a few cool gunfights here and there. The problem is that it never comes together.

It's about a dynamic environment, where bullets create clouds of dust, smoke and debris. Where things that would explode, do explode.
There is no doubt that this game is a graphical powerhouse. Dust does kick up when you shoot your gun, but it's been done before in other games (FEAR for example). It also is nothing more then a graphical effect and it doesn't factor into the strategy of how you play the game. Had there been a point to where the dust becomes so thick that you and your enemies are unable to see and you have to fire into a cloud of dust blindly and hope for the best or risk getting up next to them and hope you don't get shot, it would've been great. The dust here tends to clear out quickly even when you are in a closed room with no windows and even when there is dust in a room, the enemies’ never loose sight of you.
This leads me to the AI. Sure, you can blow up the planks on a catwalk and watch an enemy fall to his death, but that doesn't mean you're going to. Most of the enemies here are simply triggered by invisible trip wires. There was one level where I was in the woods and snuck up behind a guy and pistol whipped him. His buddies from halfway across the map still heard it, turned and fired. Occasionally they might try to hide behind cover, but they mostly tend to just charge at you guns ablaze. They don't try to flank you and there's no real challenge to taking them out. 9 out of 10 enemies can be taken out by simply running up to them and shooting them, no strategy, just simple run and gun action. I've even had several instances where I throw a grenade and several enemies run towards it. There are a few moments where there is some strategy involved (a shoot out in a two story warehouse) but it's simply because the game throws a ***** ton of enemies at you rather then smarter enemies.

Even though I only got to use 3 guns, (the ak, shotty, and pistol) they clearly FEEL POWERFUL.
Let me clarify this statement; the guns look badass. They are sharply detailed and again, the graphics are stunning. However, there's no real strategy to them, they all fall into 4 categories-Handguns, Machine Guns, Shotguns, and Rocket Launchers. Not once did I have a debate about whether I should trade in my AK-47 for and Uzi because they both have approx. the same stats and nothing about them stands out from the dozens of other FPS that are out right now.

I challenge anyone to play the farmhouse siege, where the enemy are shooting at you through the floorboards and drywall of the derelict building, and not be impressed.
This part of the game is a great example where there's some cool stuff you can do, but there's no reason to. Most of the enemies run right up to you and start firing. There were no moments where the only way to get out of a building alive was to blow through doors or aim my shotgun and the ground and create my own exit (which can't be done btw). There were also no moments where I could sneak up behind enemies in a wooden barn by blowing holes through the wall or just leveling the structure all together with a few well placed blasts to key structure points.
Okay, I'm getting longwinded now so I'll just summarize my main point. Black is a good game. It has some fun moments and some cool shootouts. However, there's nothing in this game that I haven't done before in other games or stuff that looks cool, but doesn't add up to much. Had this been some game that was released with little fanfare, I'd probably like it alot more, but this game is being trumpeted as the next Halo or Call of Duty when it's more akin to Serious Sam and I'm pretty sure no one will give a ***** about this game come March 28th. I'm also aware that the copy I played might not be the complete version and I'm treating this as a glorified demo. I played it for 8-10 hours and stopped playing halfway through the shipping docks level. I'll rent this game at some point and give it a fair chance, but I no longer have any desire to go out and buy it. - tominator1983, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Coral cache of the url, just in case EA discovers that their secret was discovered:
http://www.black.ea.com.nyud.net:8090/black_ops_content/gun_code/previews/g1.swf - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Who knows? This might be viral-like marketing and the "hacker" might be just a pawn for EA. All publicity is good publicity.
- I8PP, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3How about hiding some original gameplay ideas
- xLiKx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2it's only for the PS2 and Xbox
- edrift101, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I've played through 24% of the game so far and have racked up 256 head shots so far. :) The game rocks, go buy it when it comes out.
- lionheart1033, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i must give props to tominator for finding that code..all of us think its simple but how many of us would've actually tried that?? so anyways, the code he found does unlock the machine gun, however there is a code that unlocks the actually bfg gun, FG6S-WFZG-7MDP-PZGT ....jus enter it as your profile (including hyphens) and then you'll be prompted to enter a secondary profile name (the actual display name)...tis' all ...have fun shootin $HIT up !!! *peace*
- tominator1983, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Thank you lionheart! I'll have to try your code there.
- crimson117, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Now that this is out won't EA just change the code before releasing the game?
- essdub, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm not sure what gun this code gives you. I just finished the shipyards level and got the M249 and didn't need the code.
- Hortnon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The digg is because someone 'hacked' the flash to prove how stupid EA really is. Why would you put a 'secret' code in a flash file like that?
Nevermind a preorder code of this nature being easily distributed anyway. - hohlermann, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2"Now that this is out won't EA just change the code before releasing the game?"
If the code is programmed into the game, how would EA change the code already on the millions of pressed discs? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"EA=PWND!"
LOL! - zimm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0black sucks. bad. looks real nice tho.
- nogami, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0> Just remember everyone: EA = "ow3d" = out of business = no more cool games from them.
Sounds good to me. Most of the "cool games" I've bought recently have come from Ubisoft (which EA owns a piece of, but isn't a majority shareholder afaik).
N. - xerohour, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Blah, it just starts you out with the machine gun. I was expecting someing more hardcore that I havent seen ingame before.
- Gills, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"The code will unlock a hidden BFG gun"
Does that mean u get a Big Friendly Giant gun? - RiotActing, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0this game blows and I've already played it... this is just a stupid marketing ploy to get people to pay for it... might have worked if the game was any good...
- GrimReeper, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Nice find.
Digg - carpboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Anyone notice that the empty shells exit the guns on the wrong side?
- gweedo767, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Now they will sue him via the DMCA for "decrypting" the flash applet.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0At least the code's not 'Buffalo.'
- pdenton, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0for those of you who were wondering, to enter the code, start a new profile. type in the code as your name. if you type it in right, the window will clear out and you'll be able to type in a normal user name. good luck!
- Mongoose, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I know nothing of this game, but that's vaguely cool. +digg
- Klowner, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I pre-ordered it and got the little card with the gun code, and it's different from that one.. starts with 2RHU-
- JaggedEdge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Has anyone else noticed how badly the geek community has managed to trash this game? First it gets leaked, now people are getting around the ***** pre-order bs so they can get a code to use a gun in theyre iso of Black XD
Im just gunna sit back and watch this game get ***** in the ass through digg. - kiwimonk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I love you guys
- tellurye, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Actually I know that, I mean where were the swf files?
- GTAcrimelord, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This game has been hyped up quite a bit with all the previews, interviews, commercials, etc, but after playing the demo for the PS2, I was really dissapointed. I wasn't really worried about the graphics, but it was the destructible environments and physics I was paying close attention to. After hearing/seeing so much hype for both of those aspects, I figured they would be off the charts for this game. When I played the demo, the destructible environments seemed nothing more than extra eye-candy. They talked about how you could kill people by shooting the ceiling above them and crushing your foes to death, but I played one part where I was shooting at the base of a stone pillar with two guys standing next to it, all of a sudden the whole damn thing just exploded as if it had C4 attached to it. The two guys blew up along with the pillar, so I was like, "WTF?" Basically, the destructible environments didn't make sense at certain points. Then I also noticed a lot of the death scenes seemed repetitive, so the hyped up "physics" in the game don't really exist either.
- tellurye, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Guys, how can one decompile a flash site? Please tell me how - I'm trying to learn flash and I think it'd be cool to look at the source to see how they did some of it.
Thanks. - stealurface, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I heard that the code "5SQQ-STHA-ZFFV-7XEV" only gives you the M249 Machine Gun.
- Eraser, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I don't think preordering it actually matters to the game developers anyways, except if they're trying to figure out how much interest there is in a game.
Of course, they don't mind it as you are actually purchasing the game - but I don't think there is much more in it for the game companies than that. - Darthpip, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0EA=PWND!
- antdude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I want to see a PC port!
- o0joshua0o, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hey, has anyone here tried that game called "YAFPS"? It's so awesome. I hear it even has slightly better graphics than previous games on the market! w00t!
- breakneckridge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0my viral marketing detector is ringing as well.
- Drood, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0EA suck. They made a huge deal about how if you had a Madden 2006 save on your memory card, you'd unlock a "special vehicle". So I downloaded a Madden save for my Action Replay to unlock it. (Already had the Burnout 3 save to unlock the "special vehicle" for that.)
The vehicle you unlock is great... Until you've unlocked a few things, then you get a much better vehicle that's the same, only heavier and more destructive, making the unlocked one useful for about ten minutes.
EA got own3d... Cheat out, and one of the X-Box versions, and both the PAL and NTSC versions of the PS2 one are on the net. HAHAHA! Evil knows evil... - tominator1983, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Side note: I've heard that the way to use this code is as following:
1. Create new profile and input code as your name
2. Game accepts it and then prompts you again for the actual name you want to use.
If someone has the game, can you check it and make sure it works? Half the people commenting on here claim that they're halfway through it so I know surely someone can test the code. Everyone's been downloading it off of torrents and what not. - jinexile, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I have to agree this sounds a lot like a viral marketing tactic. Wasn't going to buy Black to begin with, still not interested.
- tominator1983, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0No I'm not a viral marketer. geez. Just someone sharing the good news.
Look on ea's forums. Every time sometime tries to post the code, their moderators delete it.
EA does not want this unlock code out in the public, because it is one of their big pre-order incentives. - lordsandwich, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Doesn't make much difference. With them giving out the code to pre-orders, how long would this have stayed a secret, anyway?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0this game is a lot of fun, btw. it's really a breath of fresh air as far as FPS are concerned. great graphics and gameplay with excellent envirnments and variety. also, everything is reactive with destructible architecture too. sure this game isn't a revolution, but it is just plain fun and highly recommended.
- stealurface, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The code "5SQQ-STHA-ZFFV-7XEV" starts you off the M249 Machine Gun, which is attainable in later levels
There is no actual BFG... - FinishdLawSkool, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Any screen shots of the bfg available??
- captainjy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Is it ever coming to the PC?
- Ignathius, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Who knows? This might be viral-like marketing and the "hacker" might be just a pawn for EA. All publicity is good publicity."
could be. they need all the help they can get pushing out another average FPS in a genere overfilled with average FPS's. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Lemme guess... it's called the BFG9000? {smacks forehead}
- kydd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0this code was in the comments on piratebay.org for the torrent for the game a while ago.... no digg.
