- daedalus779, on 12/18/2007, -4/+28East coast needs their own gaming expo.
- BigManOnCampus, on 12/18/2007, -14/+34Biggest mistake they ever made was abandoning the booth babes. People should not be allowed to impose their morality on something they don't like.
- mustiy, on 12/18/2007, -3/+22I'm gonna get heat for this.
Rolls eyes @ Booth Babes. Those plastic girls dancing about, talking about games which they have absolutely zero interest in? Get rid of them, takes away the class from the whole event. I go to e3 to play games, talk to publishers/developers, get the scoop on whats coming next - not for those 2$ street girls who have to pretend they know what the event is about. - meruru, on 12/18/2007, -4/+22It's not about morality, it's about tone and atmosphere. The old E3 with the booth babes et al was a more casual/party type environment. They wanted to class it up and make it professional and business like.
- inactive, on 12/18/2007, -5/+18I don't understand why everyone is so obsessed with the booth babes. Is a girl dressed as some character better looking than one of the countless others who you can see online? Jeez guys, get a grip. Imagine if movie events had "booth babes" - no wonder people don't take the games industry seriously.
- chaosium, on 12/18/2007, -0/+9oh good, they can advertise CORNFIELDS 3D
- inactive, on 12/18/2007, -3/+11The "booth babes" were also incredibly sexist and silly for an industry which is trying to balance the genders of employees.
- chaosium, on 12/18/2007, -3/+10It's not for you.
- Crosshare, on 12/18/2007, -1/+7I don't know what world you live in, but typically industries don't make two separate trade shows for locations, it's a business event so the companies can afford to fly their employees across the country. This isn't a comic book convention.
- hockey, on 12/18/2007, -3/+9This has nothing to do about morality.
The E3 was supposed to be about upcoming games but it became nothing more than a contest of who could have the most half naked chicks walking around their booth. It lost focus since the games actually became secondary to the event/spectacle. With the ability to surf for naked chicks just a few clicks away I think we can afford to have the premier gaming expo return its focus to the games and not have our lives affected. - LeeSoong, on 12/18/2007, -0/+5It is important for the future of humankind to have beautiful females meet smart techno-savvy males,
if the manage to hook up, hopefully their children will be cute and smart !
Bringing back booth babes is a matter of National Security!
The future of the world depends on it. - Hobofuzz, on 12/18/2007, -0/+5LA has one of the largest sea and airports in North America, and is closer to Japan than the cities you listed.
Also, Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo all have their American headquarters on the west coast. This closer proximity makes Los Angeles the ideal location for trade shows. To have E3 in Dallas or Atlanta would require Sony and Nintendo to fly their Japanese representatives even further than they already do, and the big 3's American representatives would have to travel unnecessary distances.
E3 is all about the industry and publicity, and Los Angeles is the best place to gain publicity (even moreso than New York City.)
Los Angeles has Hollywood. Throw a few celebrity endorsements into the mix, and you've got enough publicity to peddle even the ***** of games. - adml_shake, on 12/18/2007, -0/+4E3 will be going away over the next five years or so, the people that made it what it is are losing interest because it's turning into just another place for sales guys to pitch crap to each other.
- BigManOnCampus, on 12/18/2007, -0/+4Actually, booth babes can be fun to talk to. They tend to get real bored with what they're doing, and a lot of them really just want someone to relate to them in a human way after days of men just wanting a picture with them.
- SSUK, on 12/18/2007, -0/+4Last year was a sham, especially for an industry which is bigger now than ever. Gaming industry, stop being stingy bastards and bring back the full E3.
- Matteos, on 12/18/2007, -7/+11"They wanted to class it up and make it professional and business like."
i.e. Boring - LeeSoong, on 12/18/2007, -0/+3Well, they should have a booth babe expo - booth babes discussing booth babes, costumes, clothes, and the new scripts they write just looking for a producer...
- wyrdness, on 12/18/2007, -1/+4The people who need to bitch about no booth babes *can't* get laid.
- VeganG, on 12/18/2007, -0/+3Except that E3 is not FOR gamers.
- insllvn, on 12/18/2007, -3/+6Best. Loss of Focus. Ever.
- Aiwanei, on 12/18/2007, -1/+4In it's last few years in the previous state, it really became about who can have the most noise and girls at their booth and not about the games. The only really well done part of previous years was the special presentations by the big 3 console makers, everything else out there was just so much ooh ooh look at us, we have girls with cat ears. The conference is about games and the industry, and it really needed a reboot because in the last few years it had moved away from it. (last years was going too far in toning it down I think, but hopefully they will be taking gradual steps to try to bring it to a respectful level.)
But when you have other booths complaining about the booth near them being too loud and breaking the rules for noise levels, you knew it wasn't about the games anymore. - vertinox, on 12/18/2007, -0/+3Umm... That is still morality.
- removesstains, on 12/18/2007, -2/+5They didn't say they couldn't have Free Roaming Babes.
- dafragsta, on 12/18/2007, -1/+3It was a mistake to make it an elitist gathering. E3 is for the die-hard bloggers or those who'll get a badge by hook or crook to see the latest games. They want that kind of crowd. Those are the people who'll go out and evangelize their games before they are launched. E3 is a boon for cheap publicity in much the same way QuakeCon is.
- KingGoonie, on 12/18/2007, -9/+11People bitching about no booth babes need to get laid.
- Phlyers, on 12/18/2007, -3/+5You're right, Megan Fox's character had a much more important role in Transformers than any of these booth babes.
- Myst3r1o, on 12/18/2007, -2/+4Aweeeesome...about E3 going back to the Los Angeles Convention Center and not about there being no Booth Babes this time around.
haha. - kushed, on 12/18/2007, -3/+5Thats not the point. No one was ever harmed by booth babes. If it aint broke don't fix it. Stupid people and their morals.
- KMartSheriff, on 12/18/2007, -0/+2Because Texas sucks.
- vertinox, on 12/18/2007, -1/+3I take it they've never been to a professional event in Asia. I mean its basically which CEO can hire the most and prettiest both babes. And we aren't talking about video games but like companies like Toyota, Samsung, and every other company from Taiwan, China, Korea, and Japan.
- Kenzan, on 12/18/2007, -0/+2I can haz swag?
- warchant, on 12/18/2007, -0/+2i'm glad i got to attend E3 before it went to this...booth babes or no booth babes, E3 was an amazing place to be...it's sad it's turned into what it is now.
- Hobofuzz, on 12/18/2007, -0/+2Video games don't have wheels.
- diecastbeatdown, on 12/18/2007, -0/+1E3 was great from 1996-2003 - games, schwag, ladies, parties, etc. now anyone can get in so rampant fanboys are seen all over. everyone sees it on tv so there goes the elite factor and what are you left with? over-hyped games with false review ratings to help the machine move along.
- BigManOnCampus, on 12/18/2007, -0/+1I would tend to agree with you there. Make E3 cheaper to attend and you'll always get my vote.
- BigManOnCampus, on 12/18/2007, -0/+1That is not the E3 I remember, but I haven't been to one since around 2002. In 2002 the booth babes were there, and some places were more crowded than others because of it, but it wasn't attention competition instead of gaming exposition.
- iSeven, on 12/18/2007, -2/+3I was thinking the same EXACT thing at this year's Blizzcon when nvidia had 2 "models" handing out raffle tickets and trying to sell video cards.
- Graemebru, on 12/18/2007, -11/+12Booth Babes or fail.
- BigManOnCampus, on 12/18/2007, -1/+2Still sounds like you're imposing morality. You've given me *zero* reason why booth babes can't still be there. If you want to refocus on the games, then do so, but abandoning the eye candy is sill since the entire industry revolves around eye candy.
- xelloss, on 12/18/2007, -0/+1I went to the E for All expo at the convention center, it was pretty rockin, but was pretty small, regardless I had a good time. But what they really for E3 is they should do is have 5 day event, 2 days for press and announcements and 3 days the public. Also it should be in may. Talking with people at the E for All expo, most people there didn't care about buggy games, slow frame rate, as long as they got a feel and understanding for the game was what they were looking for. Its not really the best convention when your playing games that you have already played demos for games or actually already own the games.
- hockey, on 02/22/2008, -0/+1But with your attitude you are imposing your lack of morality on me.
- BigManOnCampus, on 12/18/2007, -0/+1Oh really? What temperatures have you been having lately?
lol. - JagoX, on 12/19/2007, -0/+1...b/c a TON of companies are in California and the majority of the industry in general is on the west coast.
You might want to go do some homework yourself and you'll notice that E3 was held in Atlanta one year...and it was one of the WORST shows in its history. - JagoX, on 12/19/2007, -0/+1E for All was a joke. Unless you were there for either Smash Bros, MGS4 or Rock Band...there was nothing else to do.
- gamemaker, on 12/18/2007, -0/+1E3 is dead to me. This isn't E3, it's a glorified marketing meeting where some shill tells you how great the game is.
- Aiwanei, on 12/19/2007, -0/+1in 2005-2006 it really went down hill and became all about attention. I agree the 2001-2003 years were great and about the games. but in 2005-2006 it really became all about look at me, and not look at my great games.
- inactive, on 12/19/2007, -0/+1Never let it be said that the games industry is about anything except making money.
- burndive, on 12/21/2007, -0/+1No, it's money.
- JagoX, on 12/19/2007, -0/+1Queue up all the whiners that complain about not being able to go...and G4 advertising it like it was opened for the general public.
/sigh -
