Dystopia V1 Released Today!
dystopia-mod.com — Our poor little web server is getting smashed by traffic. This makes us very excited about releasing Version 1 to you all, but we've been forced to take down all of the site features to ensure that we can at least distribute links for people to actually download Dystopia.

- addisonj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15As someone who has followed the development ever since it was announced, this is totally awesome, great concept, great gameplay, and some really great people, fuzzy and his team are nice folks and deserve a huge congrats for all the hard work
- MSTK, on 10/12/2007, -17/+4I'm distrusting the comments right now, especially after the site told all of their readers to register on Digg. Isn't this just another way of gaming the system? We don't even know if the comments have real opinions, instead of just avid fans of the program spreading a sort of propaganda.
- Satertek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6@MSTK
That could be said about pretty much any story on Digg. Everything has its hardcore fans and opponents. Also, many many blogs (and even some major news websites) have links to "Digg This", and are doing the exact same thing the Dystopia team is trying to do here...to spread the word of what they have done. - ivachen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3amazing mod. Throughly enjoying chopping people off while cloaked!!
- Lyanto, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Since this is a HL2 mod, it'll need the source engine... Anyone know if it'll work if I only have Dark Messiah and not HL2, DM, or CSS?
- Orion682, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2You can play it as long as you have any game installed that uses the Source Engine. So yes, Dark Messiahs will work. You need to download the Source SDK Base (Not Source SDK) first though, since that what it runs on. It should be under the Tools dropdown in the games menu.
- fatadamblog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Yes sweet indeed I'm been looking forward to this for a very long time. 500MB download!
- ThaiGrocer, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5it's half a gig download. 1.1 gigs for the game + SDK = about 3 gigs. it's all but worth it.
- bioxeed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16The installer is 516mb. Uncompresses to about 1.1gb though.
- Elbart, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18This is relevant to my interests, and I'd hit it like an angry god.
- Osagasu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9I can remember the first public preview release... Wow, has it been a long time.
Thank god that the wait is over. - meta2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3just tried the preview, it was so fun.
- DogGunn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6It's tons of fun. About 1.0GB when extracted, huge for a HL2 mod.
However, if you don't have the Source SDK BASE installed, you will need to do so. - wors3dandeath, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Yess!!!!
- KindredPhantom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Dystopia V1. Worth the wait. Fun.
- intenscia, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10The preview release kicked ass, amazing mod, incredibly polished. Great work team. The mods Mod DB profile can be found here:

http://black-hat-java-programming.blogspot.com/ - xiliquiern, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5When I played the previous versions, I found myself constantly annoyed by the entire game. I'm not sure why, but I really didn't like it. I'll be giving this a shot though - hopefully it's improved quite a bit. Congrats to the team for getting it out the door. I can only hope more mod teams can continue the long dev cycle required to release a mod these days.
- Orion682, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Guys like you are what give the modding community hope. You're willing to give mods a second chance, which not many are. I commend you and thank you :)
- edmondsonj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7What exactly is Dystopia?
I really have no clue. Please let me know.- Fuzzwah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Dystopia is a cyberpunk themed mod for half-life 2 and can be played for free by anyone who owns a Valve source engine game. Its a team based FPS game where the players build a load out from a pool of futuristic weapons and implants such as thermal vision, leg boosters, wired reflexes and 9 others. The maps are played in assault style, with 1 team attempting to complete a series of objectives and their enemy trying to defend.
The central idea of Dystopia is that the gameplay takes place in both the real world and in cybersapce. By selecting one of the cyberdeck implants players are able to jack into a network and take over various computerized systems which have an affect in the real world environment. While doing this, their body stands inert in meatspace and requiring protection from their team mates. - bsdfree, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4Having been an avid BF2 fan, and now after playing this for a few hours, I think of it as what BF2142 could have been.
- cryonix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5@fuzzwah
"meatspace" is going to be my new word.

- urinalcake, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Theres a really good writeup regarding the background of Dystopia, and its past releases as well as new information regarding version one written by Planet Half-Life found here: http://planethalflife.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Previews.Detail&id=75
Also, the teaser trailer showing in-game footage is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RpBWJceEUvE - BugMeNot2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Just played it for around 2 hours.
Great game. - doncorleonewm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Congrats awesome guys!
- Kinser, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1Why name a game after a MUD codebase... I mean really, and it's one of the wost MUD codebases as well.
- Fuzzwah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4An honest coincidence. Did you know there was also an old school commodore 64 game called Dystopia? What about the band?
I didn't know of any of these when we kicked off this project under the name Dystopia.

- bigbirdmoddb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5"I don't think so sista"
Congrats guys, great mod, deserves alot of pimping and playing :D - NBarnes, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2I played Dystopia extensively a while back. It's a very very polished, very very well implemented mod... with (at the time) awful maps. More 10v10 games with 2 meter chokepoints, please. >_<
If they have more and better thought-out maps, this could be great. But I got sick of the stupid zergs against defenses that could hold off ten times the number of defenders. - dragoonadept, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I've been testing Dystopia for a long time, and I must say: It has come a long way over the past few years. This is, in my opinion, the best HL2 mod. I hope everyone enjoys it as much as I do!
- Termy58, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Best mod ever!
- DMDekoth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This is such a great mod, now more than ever. They made decking so much better.
- pac300, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This mod is extremely fun, Everyone should try it out!
- petteyg359, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It's been downloaded at least 200 times from my mirror alone :) Good thing I have two terabytes of bandwidth :)
- angryrussian, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I love the small features, like the flicker of Stealth implant when it turns on, the ability to change your loadout if you don't move after spawning, the FF warning sound.
The amount of thought that went into this mod is really astonishing. - SilverhammerMBA, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1What I like about this version is that they've not only added a whole bunch of new stuff, but they've added an incredible amount of polish to everything as well. The HDR and phong lighting look awesome and the interface provides a whole lot of information while still being streamlined and intuitive.
- ThaiGrocer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3a lot of these new features were suggested by the community. This game isn't only spectacular, the devs actually communicate with the players.
here's the suggestions page: http://www.dystopia-game.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=46 - ReK42, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Full length Dystopia trailer: http://files.moddb.com/6324/download-dystopia-v1-trailer-hi-qual/
- snkmad, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is the best MOD i ever played.
The graphics are awesome, the game play well balanced, fun to play, needs real team-play to get the game going.
I hope more and more people chooses this game to play, and also that someday there will be a Brazilian Dystopia server. - DrewThePirate, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2yarrrrr, bout time
- Snorglorf, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0Second best, only to Gmod.
Best non-sandbox mod for any game ever though. - DaeMMoNN, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Dys IS Cool. I have 2 adjust 2 changes made in the v1...
Dystopia is my mindblower ;>
Congrats Dys_ deVs :) - KevanC, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Played this for the first time yesterday and it's an amazing, polished game. Definitely worth a try if you have a Source-based game on your system.
- shadydentist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3This is by far the most professional mod I have ever played. Everything is well thought-out, and I was constantly impressed by random things, like being able to watch a decker in cyberspace from his jack-in portal, or the gravity floor plates, or being able to watch your rocket on the rocket launcher.
There is a bit of a learning curve, but actually reading through the dystopia wikipedia entry helped a lot.
I highly recommend this. - KindredPhantom, on 05/27/2008, -0/+0Damn, over a year already.
I hope we can beat the diggs when we release 1.2.
