Dystopia V1 Released Today!

dystopia-mod.com — Our poor little web server is getting smashed by traffic. This makes us very excited about releasing Version 1 to you all, but we've been forced to take down all of the site features to ensure that we can at least distribute links for people to actually download Dystopia.

We don't even know if the comments have real opinions, instead of just avid fans of the program spreading a sort of propaganda.

      That could be said about pretty much any story on Digg. Everything has its hardcore fans and opponents. Also, many many blogs (and even some major news websites) have links to "Digg This", and are doing the exact same thing the Dystopia team is trying to do here...to spread the word of what they have done.

    • Orion682, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2You can play it as long as you have any game installed that uses the Source Engine. So yes, Dark Messiahs will work. You need to download the Source SDK Base (Not Source SDK) first though, since that what it runs on. It should be under the Tools dropdown in the games menu.

  • xiliquiern, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5When I played the previous versions, I found myself constantly annoyed by the entire game. I'm not sure why, but I really didn't like it. I'll be giving this a shot though - hopefully it's improved quite a bit. Congrats to the team for getting it out the door. I can only hope more mod teams can continue the long dev cycle required to release a mod these days.

    • Fuzzwah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Dystopia is a cyberpunk themed mod for half-life 2 and can be played for free by anyone who owns a Valve source engine game. Its a team based FPS game where the players build a load out from a pool of futuristic weapons and implants such as thermal vision, leg boosters, wired reflexes and 9 others. The maps are played in assault style, with 1 team attempting to complete a series of objectives and their enemy trying to defend.

      The central idea of Dystopia is that the gameplay takes place in both the real world and in cybersapce. By selecting one of the cyberdeck implants players are able to jack into a network and take over various computerized systems which have an affect in the real world environment. While doing this, their body stands inert in meatspace and requiring protection from their team mates.

  • NBarnes, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2I played Dystopia extensively a while back. It's a very very polished, very very well implemented mod... with (at the time) awful maps. More 10v10 games with 2 meter chokepoints, please. >_<

    If they have more and better thought-out maps, this could be great. But I got sick of the stupid zergs against defenses that could hold off ten times the number of defenders.

    The amount of thought that went into this mod is really astonishing.

The HDR and phong lighting look awesome and the interface provides a whole lot of information while still being streamlined and intuitive.

    The graphics are awesome, the game play well balanced, fun to play, needs real team-play to get the game going.
    I hope more and more people chooses this game to play, and also that someday there will be a Brazilian Dystopia server.

  • shadydentist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3This is by far the most professional mod I have ever played. Everything is well thought-out, and I was constantly impressed by random things, like being able to watch a decker in cyberspace from his jack-in portal, or the gravity floor plates, or being able to watch your rocket on the rocket launcher.

    There is a bit of a learning curve, but actually reading through the dystopia wikipedia entry helped a lot.

    I highly recommend this.
